What data type is refnum? initializing refnum?

Hello,
I've attached my Labview 6.1 VI.   The VI allows the user to save and view the data of  up to 12  DAQ channels.   The VI uses a case statements and the the checkbox to determine whether or not to open and save data to a file.  My problem is that for a False condition, the File refnum is unconnected.  I believe I corrected the problem with the error out not being connected by initializing it using a cluster constants.  However, I haven't tested it yet.  How can I resolve the problem with the unconnected refnum.
Thanks,
Stephen

In the palette under the files section is a "Not a Refnum" VI constant you can use for the False case.
Or depending on the version of LabVIEW you have you can right click the output tunnel and change it to "Use default if unwired".
In you save case check to make sure the Refnum is valid before saving or even giving this option...

    Hi again,
Several points that can help more:
    1. If you are working with Dot.Net, then I highly recommend read the first link that you got! This is nice and simple coding. Another option is this link which is even better in my opinion:
    http://www.dotnetgallery.com/kb/resource21-How-to-store-and-retrieve-images-from-SQL-server-database-using-aspnet.aspx
    2. As i mention above both link use the column's type image. There are several other option of working with Files. In most of my applications architecture I find that it is better to use a column which let us use any type of file and not an image column.
In choosing the right column's type for your needs basically your fist question should be if if you want to store your data inside relational database environment or outside relational environment. It is a good idea to look for blogs on this issue. Next
if you chose to store your data inside then you need to chose the right column type according to your server version. I highly recommend to look for blogs on the differences between those column's types: IMAGE,

    Hi Friends,
I have an item in page and i have selected that item as display as. Then what data type it contains by default.
    Regards

    Hi,
It can be of any type and it will accept all the data types, because this item is not related to the table.
Since this item type will be of Static text with session state substitutions and it doesnt matter of any datatypes.
What is the necessary of this question???

  • What data type I can use if the text is more then 4000 varchar?

    Dear all,
What data type I can use if the text is more then 4000 varchar?
    Please advice,
    Amy

You didn't specify if you are referring to tables or code.
In tables the limit is varchar2(4000) so anything bigger will need to be stored in a CLOB (as already mentioned).
In PL/SQL code you can defined varchar2 up to 32K so varchar2(32767).

  • What data type do I use in MSA to handle CRM DEC data?

    Dear Geeks,
We have a customer field 'ZZ_SUPPORT' on CRM (40 SP11) opportunities, which we flow
down to mobile sales. It previously carried a NUMC2 value (a number
from 1 - 99), and this worked fine... the data flowed fine in both
directions. The data element ZZ_SUPPORT used in CRM is based on a newly
created data domain called Z1_TO_99 and this was defined as data type NUMC
(2 characters), which we have changed to DEC (4 characters, and decimal
places 2, and screen display5). Having made this change and also
changed the screen layout in SE51, the field now looks good and takes
a value like '12.34' without error. We can also see the '12.34' value
being carried in the Opp_Write Bdoc in SMW01 classic segment. However, the BDoc does not migrate
successfully to Mobile - the ZZ_Support value is lost. In Mobile, I
have genereted the Tables associated with Opportunity_write, and also
the BDoc, and I have also changed the BOOPPORTUNITY / Y_Support field
(which carries the value) from NUMC2 to String5. I have also tried Long5, and currency4
because there is no data type "DEC" available in Mobile. When I send
opportunity messages up from Mobile to CRM, I see them going into SMQ2
and then they dissappear because the Function module cannot handle the
BDoc. What is the problem? Is it the function module? or the data type
used on Mobile - if so what should I use in the absense of "DEC"?

Sounds like a strange issue indeed. I would call Johnny Nobles.

  • Change what data type data socket requests from OPC server

I suspect this is a foregone conclusion, however just in case; is there a way to make Datasocket request items from an OPC server in a different data type than variant?
I have a server that scales integers (native data type) and offers tham as floating point values, however to get those nice floats the client must request the data in the right type. If the client asks for a variant the server will return the integer value (e.g. 2 instead of 2,36...).
I have not checked whether this is a server behaviour as it must be (according to OPC specs) or if it's just a choice by the vendor (Automated Solutions), but still it may become an obstacle.
Has anyone implemented OPC Client functionality without using Datasocket (and server for that matter)? Any software componants you can recommend?
    MTO

    Hi Mats
I once found vi's (..\vi.lib\Platform\dataskt.llb) with different read- and write-types. In fact they are all wrapping up the read- & write-variant functions.
I use them to communicate with Siemens OPC-Scout and it works. They make life a little easier .
    Hope this helps.

  • What data type to use?

I need to compute the percentage of each INTEGER, say, 4,5,6,3,2. So this is what I did:
    percent_value[] = (value[] / total) * 100;
both percent_value and value[] are int arrays.
    I know there's something wrong, I don't know what... please help :)

If total is an int, then you will always get 0 (or 100) the way you calculate it, since dividing two ints will produce an int, not a float. So you should multiply with 100 before you divide with total.
You need a for-loop to work with your arrays:
    for (int x = 0; x < value.length; x++) {
      percent_value[x] = value[x]*100/total;
}I assume that was what you were trying.

  • What kind of data types in Web Dynpro can be bound to Interactive Form?

    Hello
Apparently it is not possible to bind a Web Dynpro Context variable of type boolean to a checkbox in an interactive form. We get the PDF Document Render Exception until the data type is changed to string, then the generation seems to work. Does anyone know what data types in Web Dynpro other than String can be bound to an Interactive Form Document? Is there any information about this in help.sap.com/adobeforums.com/elsewhere? I have researched a bit, but couldn't get a general statement on this topic.
    Thank you for your help!
    Kind regards
    Bettina Hepp

    Hi,
You can Bind the Boolean type of webdynpro to the CheckBox in Adobe Interactive Form.
Just define the value Attribute in the Context of type Boolean and bind the Checkbox in Aif with this attribute.
    Sample Code:
    if (wdContext.currentContextelement.reason == true)
    ur validations.....

  • Performance and data types: which to use?

    Hi All,
I am wondering what data type to use and the effect of them on memory/speed.
    1. What is the difference (if any) of using sgl, dbl, int etc. Looking at the LabVIEW help there seems to be a range of 8-256 bits of storage according to the data type. Is it basically choose the one with the smallest storage that can fit the data?
    2. I currently have a cluster flowing through subVI's. The cluster contains the start time (or freq), the delta t (or f) and the array of data (about 500-5000 elements). I tried to use the waveform datatype but it couldn't handle a delta t of 2 nanoseconds (500 MHz signal). Am i ok using the cluster, or should i seperate the components and pass them along? What data type should i use for each of the components?
    Thanks

There are three main issue to consider.
Range and accuracy. If you need a very high level of accuracy, then you will need to use the extended data type or even create your own, although that's unlikely.
Memory. Yes, SGL takes less than DBL, but unless you're dealing with really huge amounts of data this won't matter.
Coercion. Most built in functions work on DBL. If you wire a SGL into them, they will coerce it, possibly creating a copy of the data and increasing your memory usage.
To sum it up, most of the times it would be best to use the default DBL. It's highly unlikely you'll need one of the others.
As for your second question, it sounds to me like the data is a single organism, so I would say you should leave it in the cluster, but that really depends on whether the functions need it or not and whether you're constantly bundling and unbundling the cluster. Note that 5000 elements is far from being a large array and you shouldn't have any problems handling it.
As for the timing unit, if you really only have 5000 elements (that's 10 microseconds of data?) then you should not have a problem with using a U32 with a nanosecond as the base unit. That should give you the ability to measure more than 4 seconds.
Try to take over the world!

  • Few questions - game loop, data types, speed

Hello, I have a few questions after studying some topics in this forum regarding game creation:
    1) What's the fastest way to wait in the game loop? I've seen two approaches:
thread.sleep(10)andsynchronized(this) { wait(10); }2) What data types shall I use? In C++ I use to prefer int over short in all cases, because 32bit hardware works faster with integers. Is this same on cell phones?
    3) Speed of applications is slow. I just wonder wheter it's my fault. I was testing application, which only cleared the buffer and outputted FPS and I got around 20 frames. It was Nokia 6300 with 240x320 display. After testing on other phones I've found out that the bigger the resolution, the slower the game is going. Is this normal?
    Thanks for replies...

    1) You're not going to notice any really speed difference between the two code snippets. Read up on 'Threads', and you'll see why one may be used in place of the other depending on the situation. In general there may be a slight performance loss, however unnoticable, when using the synchronized version, but when you are multithreading it is likely necessary.
sleep(int) is impossible to interrupt, so it's generally a no-no in most situations. However we are talking about devices where every bit of performance helps, so as long as it works for ya, it's not a big deal.
    2) The performance difference is fairly negligable, if any. The biggest thing to consider is memory requirements, and shorts take 1/2 the data.
Also, many phones don't support floating point data types, so you'll likely need to use ints/longs to calculate your values if you want to have any accuracy beyond whole numbers. Doing something like shifting bits or using 1000x values in your calculations can get around most of the problems when you can't use floats.
    3) The biggest performance killers are IO, memory allocation, screen drawing; pretty much in that order. So I imagine that you are re-creating a new String object every time you output your FPS value on screen right? Doing that every frame would destroy any hopes of getting high-performance.
Just be careful, and never allocate objects when you can avoid it. anything where you concat String objects using + will cause your performance to die a horrible painful slow death. Remove anything that says 'new' from your main loop, and all String operations, and it'll likely speed things up a lot for ya.
Does your main loop have something like this?
    g.drawString("FPS: " + currentFps, 0,0,Graphics.TOP | Graphics.LEFT);
This is very bad because of the String operation. It'll create a new String every frame.

  • Data Type of a Infoobject

    Hi Experts
I am getting values from source system in the format of 22,22.3,30.5,1.3,99.99
As per my requirment i need to have a Selection variable in my report so that user can choose Show me all records which are > 30 and <35.5
So to meet my requirments what data type of char should i have to create CHAR or NUMC
    Please advice
    Thanks

    Hi...
NUMC - Numeric String  - It can store only digits (0 to 9).
It cannot store any other characters like ( "." Dot etc)
So in this case you have to use CHAR only.
But generally numbers has to be stored in Key figure info Objects instead of characteristics.
    Hope  u got it.
    cheers.

  • Data type with large size in a table and updating it

    Hi guys,
i am working on a requirement in which i need to create 4 tables. Here, 2 tables will be updated by the user and a program will update this content to the other 2 table.
2 days before i posted a query on this, Previously i stucked on a part where, table need to entries with size char 400 and char 9000. As from the reply, i changed it to STRING with which table was sucessfully created and i was able to update data through a report program.
Now we ned to provide an sm30 option to users, so they can insert new contents and update the status of old contents. But when i tried this table maintanance generator, i got an error that table contains string, so maintanance generator cannot be done ! i changed the data type to rawstring also. Now maintanance generator got saved, but when i open the table in sm30, i am getting dump saying tht table is using string/char etc.
can anyone tell me what data type to use in this scenario with which we can enter data through sm30 ?

    Hi Kithu,
you can use STRING (or XSTRING) fields. Then there is no limit on the field size. As long as it is not (fully) filled with data, no space is wasted.
The disadvantage is that STRING type data are treated as 'deep' structures. That leads to some trouble in the definition of interfaces. Give it a try!

  • Sql server 2000 data type

In sql server 2000, what data type do I use for a field that
needs to show two decimal places? It is a weight field, so the
weight in ounces could be something like 12.25 and it needs to
store it this way in the database. I'm kind of new to sql server,
so any help would be greatly appreciated!

You asked "In sql server 2000, what data type do I use for a
field that needs to show two decimal places?" and I answered
"decimal and numeric". How much clearer could I be?
Numeric data types with fixed precision and scale.
    decimal[(p[, s])] and numeric[(p[, s])]
Fixed precision and scale numbers. When maximum precision is
    used, valid values are from - 10^38 +1 through 10^38 - 1. The
SQL-92 synonyms for decimal are dec and dec(p, s).
    p (precision)
Specifies the maximum total number of decimal digits that can
be stored, both to the left and to the right of the decimal point.
The precision must be a value from 1 through the maximum precision.
    The maximum precision is 38.
    s (scale)
Specifies the maximum number of decimal digits that can be
stored to the right of the decimal point. Scale must be a value
    from 0 through p. The default scale is 0; therefore, 0 <= s
<= p. Maximum storage sizes vary, based on the precision.
I recommend that you load SQL Server Books Online on your
computer, as it is available free from Microsoft as a download and
it has everything you will probably need to know about SQL Server.
Or you could just use the online version at
