What development technique to use?

I'm in the research stage of my final year project which entails the development of a SVG authoring tool. The tool will allow the user to create graphics and save them as .svg files. The requirements of the tool are not fully defined yet but I would like your initial opinions on what direction to take in developing such a tool.

Should I design and implement the GUI to start with,
then concentrate on the actual drawing functionality.
Then finally implement the 'saving to SVG'
functionlity?What I would do (and am doing, as the systems relibility tool I'm working on uses chunks of SVG for the elements in its diagrams) start with modelling the classes that hold the SVG data, and create a parser to load an SVG file, and check that works with toString() methods. Then add rendering methods so the SVG can be displayed, and show a sample file on a panale in a dialog. Then you know what data is in the SVG elements, and what will be needed to be editable, so that the GUI can be designed to effect that data.
I'll also have to provide UML diagrams for the tool,
and I'm not too sure when exactly to create them, and
what they should contain.I almost always create rough UML schetches with pencil and paper during design, then input them into a tool when it's finished. I have one for the SVG hierachy (base interface to all SVG elements, and classes SvgPath, SvgContainer, etc). For designing the GUI, usually I sketch what it'll look like, as UML doesn't capture that.

We are implementing a webservice which will call OIM API and will do the user updates. Inside the web service, we need to first connect to OIM DB. For that SOA component BPEL is calling the webservice. I need to implement the logic of decryting oim xelsysadm password here so that it can update user attributes in IDM DB table.
I have the code but I dont know what value should I provide here in "DBSecretKey".

I got the answer for my question. We just need to give OIM user id like xelsysadm to the code and the below code works fine.

I'm using windows DW 2014.1 cc. I'm following lynda.com tutorials to build a website database with PHP and MySQL. I learned I have to download Adobe Extension Mngr to active DATABASE, BINDING, SERVER BEHAVIOR panels, which I've done. BUT NOW I'VE BEEN ADVISED NOT TO USE THESE TOOLS for new development. Besides the tools you would already need for a system using server behaviors (web server, PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin) the only extra tool you need is your own brain.
A lot of people are disappointed by the lack of database tools in DW now, but really it's much better this way. You can never achieve better than a rinky-dink dynamic website using server behaviors. The code Dreamweaver dynamic behaviors create is really terrible. (I'm not insulting the fine folks who wrote the feature. It's just a consequence of automated code.) You can write better, simpler, more maintainable code yourself, and over time you will improve. With server behaviors you cannot improve. you get stuck in database kindergarten.

What Classes do you use for developing Database Applications

I develop now an application for production planning and I use an informix database-server. I have no problems with the database an the connection. I,m a database expert, but I,m a newcommer in java. What classes do you use to develop a database application ? (specially Table Handling) I tried it with JTable and AbstractTableModel. Are there better possibilities ?

No - the classes you have described (AbstractTableModel etc) are Swing classes - that is, they are Models in the MVC GUI architecture. Database-related stuff (SQL at any rate) is contained in the packages java.sql and javax.sql - The latter is part of the Enterprise addition. You would also need to purchase a database driver (or use the sun one, which is something like com.sun.odbc.jdbc.Driver or whatever). The driver supplies you with connections to the database (java.sql.Connection).
Alternatively, you may be deploying code in a J2EE AppServer (eg. WebLogic, WebSphere etc) in which case you can use the JNDI to get a javax.sql.DataSource object (by setting one up in the AppServer and doing a lookup on it) and use this to get database Connections.

I currently use parameters, and they are passed from the form to the report. Report is then generated based on a function returning ‘strongly typed’ cursor. The ‘strongly typed’ cursor in my case returns a record consisting of an orderly collection of fields.
This collection of fields is returned by another function that relies on the IF … THEN logic.
However, the number of IF ... THEN statements is quite large (currently 64 covering all possible combinations of 6 parameters available in the form).
I would like to avoid the large number of IF … THEN statements, and hope that there is a way of passing a string to a query, where the Dynamic SQL would in Select close and Where close reflect parameters passed by the form.
In addition to this I would like to avoid creating and populating a table or a view dedicated to the report, because this may lead to a conflict in case of multiple users concurrently generating reports with different choice of parameters.

I currently develop CF projects using Flash Builder 4.5. I am considering purchasing Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP. Will I still be able to work on my CF projects using FB for PHP?

Because in the installation instructions for FB for PHP it says that you have to uninstall the current installation of FB which I have several CF projects that I use regularly. I hate to uninstall if it turns out that I can't transport my current projects into FB for PHP.

OK, because I give suck advice, I'll D/L it and install it on a spare machine and take a look. FB usually has a CF perspective does it? So what you need to know is whether FB for PHP still has the CF perspective?
Or are you asking whether you can install CFB (or CFEclipse) as a plug-in to FB for PHP, like one can with FB?

Newbie question - Portlet development in Portal using JDeveloper

Hello.
I've tried to develop a portlet using Oracle JDeveloper, then using it in an Oracle Portal-provided web page.
I'm so really confused... I don't know where to start!
Let'say the portlet is a very simple Hello World static html or jsp page.
What could I do in order to use it in Portal?
Have I to use jpdk? How?
Or have I to deploy it in the Application Server home OC4J as a web application?
Or have I to deploy it in the OC4J_Portal as a web application?
Or....
If this helps, here is my platform:
I'm using Oracle Application Server 10g Portal as middle-tier. It is correlated to an OID/Infrastructure istance wich provides Single SignOn for the applications, based upon an Oracle 9i database, in which runs Oracle Workflow; my needs are to use a Workflow based Java applications in the Oracle Portal as portlets.
Don't worry: by now, I'm interested in just knowing how to run in the Portal a simple Hello World portlet built with JDeveloper...

Advanced Development Techniques for Oracle Portal Components

I have the following problem. I have a report and a form (on a
view) in the same page, and when I select an item of the report
the form is refreshed with the values associated to the selected
item. The problem is that it makes it with delay, the first
selection doesn't show anything and the remaining sample the
data of the previous selection.

I never saw this particular font, but I second that, fonts is the only thing MS do well imo
And so I wondered, what do you use? IMO a terminal font should be, readable, monospaced (doh) and a little thick.
