What do I need to Program a PDA running Palm OS

Hello all,
Before you send me to the Palm OS Developer website...I have been there already. Never done any Palm OS programming. Was wondering what software it intails. Know I need J2ME (but is it CDC or CLDC?). Actually don't know that much about PDA's.
What happened was I had this dream last night about righting a program in JAVA 1.4 that could export stuff to a PDA, you could use the PDA to record stuff and then sinc it back up with the program. Sounded cool while I was all snuggled in my blankets, but is now turning into that song I can't get out of my head.
So...If anyone has developed something like this for a low-end PDA please share some knowledge. What do I need to write code (in JAVA of course), compile, debug, test, etc. for a PDA that runs the Palm OS? Is it freeware (say yes please or my torture will continue!)? where do I find it?
Please help...
Phil

There have been alot of posts about this, try and search on Palm. To answer the question in short, I program Palms and Pocket PC for use with Java apps. The cheapest way for you is to get a book on Palm programming, that has a CD with Code Warrior Lite ( a C++ compiler from Metrowerks) and then write the app in Java. You will also need to write a conduit, which moves the flat data to a text file on the PC. The Palm sucks in that the memeory is all flat, so you must handle the management, ie malloc from the old days. There are products that will let you build the Palm app and a primitive conduit, but you got pay for those. Also, remember the Palm is Motorola based, so liitle I and big I come into pay when you move data thru the conduit from Palm to PC. Long and short, go back to bed, and hope you dream of Heather Locklear. It will take less work and aggrivation to get a date with her than to program that nasty little Palm. Good luck, and let me know how the date went.....

  • What do I need to worry about when running a VI for an extended amount of time?

Hi, I'm fairly new to LabVIEW as a program, but not new to programming as a whole.
I'm attempting to build a VI which will, hopefully, be run continuously and take data for weeks-months at a time.
I've never built a VI, let alone a program, which will be run continuously for so long, and so I'm unsure as to what I should be concerned about. I'm looking right now at optimizing, as best I can, memory allocation, algorithms, etc. but I suppose my main question is: What should I really be worrying about when programming a VI which will be run continuously for an extended period of time?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

In the structure of your VI's, be certain that you are not repetively creating things such as references to queues, or file references, or DAQ tasks, or anything without closing them.  I was working on one application where a DAQ task was getting created every loop iteration and not being closed.  It crashed the PC hard with a blue screen of death after about 20 minutes of operation, through debugging and before I found the cause, I saw I had about 80,000 to 100,000 iterations of a loop fairly consistently before the crash.
If this loop had run at a slower rate, it might have taken days or weeks before the PC would have crashed.  It would have seemed infrequent and would have taken longer to debug because I would never have seent the pattern.  If it takes a few failures before you discover the problem, it is a lot quicker to find the explanation after a few failures at 20 minutes per failure as opposed to 20 days per failure.  The problem was eventually found in a subVI several layers down and fixed.
So if you pay attention to these things early enough, then hopefully they won't pop up and bite you weeks or months into a critical run of the program.

  • HT1338 i have a macbook pro 10.6.8 and need to upgrade to mavericks 10.9 what do i need to do.I also run a windows parrellel that has my comapny software and quikbooks on it.

i have a macbook pro 10.6.8 and need to upgrade to mavericks 10.9 what do i do - i also have a paralel for windows with company software and quikbooks.

    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
If this is a company computer or is used with company software, I suggest you do not upgrade to Mavericks without first checking with your company. Older software may not work with Mavericks. Some of it may need upgrading, and that may be something your company is unwilling to pay for.

  • What Computer name needed for login on MacBook running Yosemite

MacBook pro 13" (2014 or late '13), running the latest version of Yosemite. It was having a hard time booting up; I had to enter the password twice and each time it took a few minutes before the mouse or keyboard were responsive. Finally, the last time I booted up it didn't go to the regular boot screen that listed me and a guest; it went straight to a gray screen telling me where to go to reset my forgotten password. I know my password. The only other option was to click a button to disable FileVault encryption and try again. After rebooting s few times I still got this screen, so I gave up and clicked 'disable file vault'. Now it takes me to a screen wanting Name and Password. (See screen capture)
My apple ID & PW don't work. The computer won't boot into safe mode.
    I'm stumped.

    Verify your drive.
Boot into the Recovery Drive by holding down Command R when restarting.
Run Repair Drive and Repair Permissions using Disk Utility in Recovery.
You might need to reinstall OS X. This process should not damage your data but it's always advised that you backup first.

  • What do I need to run Windows on a Mac and Word for Windows?

I have a Mac OS X Lion and would like to run Windows programs which are only programmed to run on Windows.  What do I need so that I can run Windows and Microsoft Word.

"I have a Mac OS X Lion and would like to run Windows programs which are only programmed to run on Windows."
Your best bet is to use VirtualBox to provide a virtual machine capability allowing the installation of a guest OS like windows. I've used VB extensively for years and I highly recommend it's use for your issue.
If you have a full version of windows, you could use bootcamp as an alternative to VB but you lose the ability to access the OSx environment while booted in windows.
    Best of luck

What do i need to be able to run windows on my mac? Im currently on OS X 10.6

Windows will probably notice that the hardware has changed, so there is a fair chance that it need to be re-activated. Or you might get lucky. I migrated from a ThinkPad and didn't seem to have much trouble. Be sure to review all Windows 8 tech notes at Parallels before attempting to run Windows 8 under Parallels, although they might have upgraded Parallels now. (I'm still running W7 in Parallels occasionally)

Also if windows is on a mac, if I have a file saved on a mac, Can I open it in windows straight from my mac or will I have to copy the file over to windows and then open it. If I could open it from my mac and I saved it on windows, would it ask me to save a new copy on windows therefore having to copy it back to my mac from windows?
It depends on where you store it and how you open it. Parallels allows you to make a Mac folder visible on Windows. If you store a Word file in that normal Mac folder and you decide to let Parallels see that folder, you can open it on Windows and save it back to the same location with no extra work.
You can also drag files between a Mac folder and a folder in Windows in Parallels, but of course after you edit it on Windows you have to manually drag it back over to the Mac folder to transfer the changes. I usually use drag-and-drop for one-way file moves, but if files need to be seen on both sides I use Parallels to make the Mac folder visible in Windows.

  • What's a good karaoke program/app for the iPhone, iPad and Macbook Pro. I need lyrics and tempo shown.

What's a good karaoke program so I can practice at home ? I need the lyrics and tempo shown like a professional setup for the pc windows lline and the app should be similar throught IOS platforms and Mac.

You'll need an adapter cable, and which one you need depends on what version MBP you have and the inputs on the monitor.
I just recently purchased a Dell U2410 to use as a second display with my iMac. Overall I'm pretty happy with but my use is a little different, I wanted something with very good color accuracy for photo work.  Based on what you said your needs are, you probably don't have to spend as much.
One thing I will say, is this particular monitor (and I believe all Dells) has an antiglare screen on it, which to be honest, took me a little getting used to.  Because of the matte surface, text and documents aren't quite as sharp and can even look a little hazy at times.  For your uses  you may be better off with a glossy screen as long as glare isn't going to be too much an issue for you.
BenQ makes some pretty nice and affordable monitors these days LED backlit or otherwise, and on that note, theres absolutely nothing at all wrong with non "LED" monitors, both technologies are still using an LCD panel for the display, they just deal with the backlighting differently.
As the other poster mentioned, NEC is always a good option as well.  Less common on the consumer side, but they make very good professional products.

What do I need to do to fix this?

    * Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

After an update to firefox I keep getting a warning from my Firewall (McAfee) "Program wants internet access". I have permission set at outgoing for firefox and updates checking off, to check that request is valid so what does it need access for

This was not a Firefox update, but a piece of malicious software you have inadvertently downloaded from a site called http://ffftp.co.cc/ which is impersonating Firefox. I discovered this as soon as my Zonealarm requested permission for "Golds" to access the internet. Golds??!! However I couldn't find a file with this name installed on my computer.
You should delete the file you downloaded and certainly do not allow internet access to any suspicious program. If you have already given permission, scan your PC immediately for any virus, malware, etc. Best of luck.

LibreOffice gives you most if not all the functionality of Microsoft's Office suite of products (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
ProjectLibre gives you most if not all the functionality of MS Project.
Both run natively on OS X and are totally FREE.
Lastly, if you need to access Windows computers from your Mac, Microsoft Remote Desktop is available for free from the App Store. It is a vast improvement over the Remote Desktop Connection that comes with the MS Office for Mac commercial product.

  • What is difference between report programming and dialog programming?

    hi,
what is difference between report programming and dialog programming? plz provide some example code
    bye

    ABAP programming
Basically reports are used to read database and represent the results in lists.
Reports are collections of processing blocks that the system calls depending on events.
We can use reports to evaluate data from database tables.
Reports are stand alone programs and controlled by events.
A report itself never creates events
    steps in report:
    Processing the selection screen
    Reading the database
Evaluating the data and creating lists
    Outputting a list.
1st u write simple logics, after that u can enhance the code as step by step.

    Dialog Programming
    Structure of a Dialog Program
A dialog program consists of the following basic components:
    Screens (dynpros)
Each dialog in an SAP system is controlled by dynpros. A dynpro (DYnamic PROgram) consists of a screen and its flow logic and controls exactly one dialog step. The flow logic determines which processing takes place before displaying the screen (PBO-Process Before Output) and after receiving the entries the user made on the screen (PAI-Process After Input).
The screen layout fixed in the Screen Painter determines the positions of input/output fields, text fields, and graphical elements such as radio buttons and checkboxes. In addition, the Menu Painter allows to store menus, icons, pushbuttons, and function keys in one or more GUI statuses. Dynpros and GUI statuses refer to the ABAP/4 program that control the sequence of the dynpros and GUI statuses at runtime.
    ABAP/4 module pool
Each dynpro refers to exactly one ABAP/4 dialog program. Such a dialog program is also called a module pool, since it consists of interactive modules. The flow logic of a dynpro contains calls of modules from the corresponding module pool. Interactive modules called at the PBO event are used to prepare the screen template in accordance to the context, for example by setting field contents or by suppressing fields from the display that are not needed. Interactive modules called at the PAI event are used to check the user input and to trigger appropriate dialog steps, such as the update task.
All dynpros to be called from within one transaction refer to a common module pool. The dynpros of a module pool are numbered. By default, the system stores for each dynpro the dynpro to be displayed next. This dynpro sequence or chain can be linear as well as cyclic. From within a dynpro chain, you can even call another dynpro chain and, after processing it, return to the original chain.
