Orientation lock.  From http://www.apple.com/iphone/tips/
Lock the screen orientation.
Double-click the Home button to bring up the multitasking interface, then swipe from left to right. Now tap the portrait orientation lock once to turn it on and again to turn it off.

  • What does caution sign mean in iPhoto? I can open and view some of my photos, but some I can't.  How do you solve this problem?

I accidentally created an Event with flagged photos.  I didn't really want to do that, but couln't "undo" it.  I used Time Machine to restore iphoto, going to the day before the incident happened.  I tried holding down the option key and reboot iphoto.  I tried to restore using Time Machine again.  I used Disk Utilities to repair permissions.  I tried to rebuild thumbnails.  None of this worked.  Does anyone have a solution to this?  I upgraded to Mavericks when it first came out and things seemed to be fine since then until this happened.  Not sure if this is a Mavericks issue or something I did.

Just to give you a few more details- I saw a previous post from you responding to someone else about a similar Issue-
    - What version of iPhoto.
    9.5.1
    - What version of the Operating System.
    Mavericks
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
I was trying to edit photos- so double clicking on a thumbnail to make it larger so I could edit it and the gray caution sign appeared.
    - History: Is this going on long?
    2 weeks
Has anything been installed or deleted?
Turbo Tax installed from the internet.  Nothing deleted that i know of.
    - Are there error messages?
Error message -54 if I'm using the right error going quickly from one thumbnail to the next.
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Just mentioned this in my previous reply a few minutes ago.
    - Anything unusual about your set up?
    I don't think so.
    Or how you use iPhoto?
Just have 4 cameras that I use to export from the camera to iphoto- none of them are new cameras so that hasn't changed.  I don't think there is anything I'm doing that is unusual- just your basic editing, etc.

  • What does this thing mean next to all my music?

It is next to all 192 of my songs I uploaded (that used to work until the IOS 7 update but no longer work)

It means there's a problem with those episodes. Click on the i for an error message. It can for example mean that the author has moved or deleted the media files but they are still listed in the feed.

  • What does explanation sign mean on 7D

Addittional info:  I went to the 7D MkII instruction CD and indeed, there is a 500+ page instruction manual and the information about the " ! " warning sign is on page 441.  It would be nice if the printed manual was a bit more comprehensive, but we should probably just be glad that there is a printed manual as many cameras no longer include them.

Well, this is the first mention of the Mark II; the OP's question appeared to refer to to the Mark I. The 7D (Mk 1) manual posted on the Canon site is identical to the one delivered with the camera; a later version of about the same size is also available. Apparently the Mk II manual is much larger.
I think the primary value of the printed manuals supplied by Canon is that they're small enough to carry around in one's camera bag. I'm not sure I'd want to carry a manual around if it were 500 pages long. So if for the 7D2, Canon is providing an abbreviated manual to carry around and the full one on-line to be printed and stored in a letter-size binder, that seems sensible to me.

  • What does the little cloud with a down arrow next to a song mean

I upgraded my phone from iOS6 to iOS7 and had to remove all my music to get enough space which is fine because I wanted to reload it anyways.  When I opened the music app, thinking there would be no music there, I was surprised to fine hundreds of songs each with a little cloud with a down arrow next to them.  What does the little cloud with the down arrow mean?  If I click on it am I purchasing something? Are they songs I can listen to for free?  I don't use and have never signed up for an iCloud account so they can't be songs I purchased because I haven't purchased any songs.

Means they are stored in the cloud and you need to download them.

  • What does the ~ symbol mean next to an event?  I have never seen this before but today when I edited a few events this appeared next to the event.

What does the ~ symbol mean next to an event?  I have never seen this before but today when I edited a few events this appeared next to the event.

    Greetings,
Hm. I've never seen that in iCal.  In some other Applications the tilde "~" indicates a restore point or a before / after for a file.  My guess is there is a broken cache file in iCal.
    Try:
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
If that doesn't resolve the issue:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

  • What does the plus sign (+ ) mean in the app store updates?

What does the plus sign (+) mean in the upper corner of the app updates in the app store?  Does it mean it costs more money?

No, it is free. I have yet to see a paid update. The + sign means it is a universal app, meaning that it works across iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

  • What does the exclamation point mean next to a song that is unchecked?

what does the exclamtion point mean next to a song that is unchecked?

If you hover over the exclamation mark (or you may need to click on it, I can't remeber), it should tell you. Usually, it means that the original file (for that song) cannot be found, either because it has been moved, renamed or deleted.

What does the icon next to the left of thelocation icon mean and to the right of the time? It has a lock with an arrow circling it. Thanks

It's the portrait orientation lock.  When on, and that icon showing, the screen won't rotate to landscape view when you rotate the phone.
To turn it off - double click the home button to show the recently opened apps bar, slide it to the right showing the iPod controls and the Portrait Orientation Lock on the left.
