What else for uwc and SSL

I created a certificate db and a self signed cert for use with the messaging server (05Q1) and enables ssl for http, but when I go to https://servername/uwc, a simple message of "Not found" is displayed. If I go to just https://servername, I am greeted with a login, but am directed to the old communications express webmail client.
Any hints on what special config changes I need to make to enable uwc over ssl?

I think this is what you need to do
1. go to the page from where you have to install certificate
2.You will see lock symbol at the right hand side of the page, click on it and save it on your desktop PC by going to details page
3. Open Nokia PC Suite --> FileManager and trasnfer the certificate from your PC to FileManager
4. Click on the certificate inside FileManager and install it, while installing allow it to choose its place automatically
Then try synchronising your mail, you ill receive it for the first time when you connect then it wont ask you for that again till you connect next time.

Here's how I got my Nokia to accept the certificate as trusted. It may not work for everybody but it worked for me and after the past week of messing about I am truly grateful for that...
Basically, I uninstalled then reinstalled Certificate Services through add/remove programs. I then followed the advice on this site (below), but only as far as requesting a cert through IIS Manager.

I followed the advice until this section (mainly because it wouldn't allow me to request a cert through IE on the server...)..

I then opened "certification authority" on the server (through administrative tools) and right clicked the cert authority which will have the same name as the cert you had just requested and selected properties. In my case, something like mail.mydomain.co.uk...
Under the General Tab I highlighted "certificate#0" in the CA Certificates box and clicked "view certificates".
This opens the cert and I then clicked the "details" tab and saved the cert to a location using the "copy to file" button.
Using the wizard I selected the first option "DER encoded binary x509(.cer) gave it a friendly name, saved it somewhere handy and closed the wizard.
I then copied the file onto a pc with the Nokia PC Suite installed and copied it to the documents folder (although any one will do). I guess you could bluetooth or email the cert as well..
I then browsed to it on the phone, clicked on it and it let me save it automatically into the certs folder. I restarted the phone, checked SSL was on and bingo the certificate was trusted and remains working today... You might have to delete an existing cert if you already have one installed as it won't let you overwrite it..
As I say, I can't say this will work for anybody else as I have probably fiddled around with the server so much it has gone west in some respects, but it works for me and that'll do for now...

Apache as Reverse Proxy for UWC and Webmail

for several reasons i want to use apache 2 as reverse proxy and ssl accelerator for UWC.
internet <-> apache/ssl <-> backend port 80
I configured my apache with mod_proxy and mod_proxy_html.

What upgrades for video and processor on a mac pro 1.1?

Was looking on the forum and i have not yet clear what could be done to upgrade the graphic card and the processor of my mac pro 1.1; so hope that someone has good solutions
1) i have a x1900xt, works decently for software and games on windows, but would like to get something that support DX10 on windows, and that works good also for pro apps...is the geforce 8800 or ati 3870 the only options? and are teh apple store selling them for $279 even today? i would love to go to a best buy or frys and get one and save money and time, instead of ordering it online at that price....any suggestions?
2) i have 2 dual core 2.66 (no idea what is the codename of the xeon processor); do i have any option to upgrade to a 4 core or to something faster?

I tried to use the diamond 1Gb, and on the 8X slot it works basically at half the speed of the x1900 (3dmark 06 gave me 4200 for the x1900 and 2250 for the 4650); so the gain is close to 0
Under macOs does not work at all; and when i tried to swap the 2 cards to boot the pc and use the 16x rail on the 4650, basically Vista decided to not recognize either card, leaving me with 1 monitor off and one on, without being able to recognize the video card.
I wonder why the PCI utility on mac does not allow to set which slot will get the 16X....the only place where the x1900 fits is slot 4, so even if the card would work fine , i would have to swap cards and connectors everytime that i wanna play in bootcamp, and this is not the best choice
Last attempt: tried with a 4870 and looks like the flashing does not always work (read trough 26 pages of a post on another site); so since i don't want to pay 350 for the apple version, i've got a 3rd party 3870 for less than 200 dollars (shame that the 4870 for pc cost the same price), that form the links that you guys gave me, seems the best choice for pro apps and games, compared to the 8800 (and the plus that under bootcamp i can get a second card and use crossfire is a huge plus, especially when the price of this card will go further down!).

Mail for Exchange and SSL certificate

I have a little problem with Mail For Exchange and my Nokia N80. I have self-signed certificate for Exchange mailserver and when I am synchronizing e-mails I got always message: "The site has sent an untrusted certificate. Continue anyway ?". I underestand that my certificate isn't verified by any root authority, but if I have synchronization schedule set at 15 minutes it means I have to confirm this message four times when I am not with my mobile one hour. So question is:
Is possible to import self-signed SSL certificate into Nokia N80 and set it as trusted ? If yes, please describe me how, because I have tried import the certificate as CER (it was opened just as NOTE on Nokia), I tried to convert it via openssl to PEM (the file was not recognized) etc... Thanks for any help in advance.

Go to your outlook web access website and click on the lock and then view certificate. The details and then you can save it in DER format to your desktop.
Then go to this site:
http://www.redelijkheid.com/symcaimport/ and insert through the browse button and then copy the link to your phone.
Then you should be able to download it
You can also go to your IIS default site on the exchange server and directory security and export your certificate under edit certificate.
I have tried everything now. I can download my certificate and the valicert from GoDaddy, but the Nokia phone is still saying "do you trust this certificate" every time the phone syncs.
Our firm have taken the E-phones away now and went over to windows mobile and all of them worked within 10 minutes without any errors.
The funny thing is that when you try to call nokia, they wont help you with Mail for Exchange, and it is there program
I know my GoDaddy certificate works on windows mobile phones, so It must be something with Mail for Exchange.
Every guy I talked to about symbian phones have told me they always gives problems with SSL. I am a bit **bleep**, but can conclude that Nokia is for the private consumer.

Nokia 6700 navigation: What is for free, and what ...

Hi,
I am planning to buy a nokia 6700 classic and understand that free navigation is not available for this phone, and will not be available in the coming months as well.
So I have tried to find out which is the navigation part that is for free, and which is the part you pay for, but have not been able to find that on this forum
I want to use the GPS-function for the following purposes:
- look up certain streets on the map (just like google maps on the internet)
- find my current location on a map
- track the route I walk/cycle, so that at home I can see where I have been.
I will not use GPS to navigate me in a certain direction (turn left, turn right etc.)
Do these functions come for free? Or do you have to pay for any access to the GPS function of your phone?

1. Look up streets: should be free, it was free on maps 3.01 for s60
2. Yes this one is also free AFAIK.
3. Maps does not support this. This is done via Nokia Sport Tracker which is not available for your phone AFAIk.

What now for ibus and gsd?

Well...ibus SEEMS to have a stable version now. And it's updated in Arch repo. So, should the INTEGRATION be enable in gsd again?
Actually just before it's disabled, some engines begin to work. But while I stupidly tried to HELP the non-ibus users to ask you guys to split the package, Ionut Biru just quickly cut all those INTEGRATION off and shut that bug report down, while there has already been solution, or at least workaround to make non-ibus imf work in GNOME 3.6. At the same time, cutting that off doesn't seems to help us in using ANY imf.
So, would there be any FUTURE for CJK INPUTTING in Arch? Do you guys have any little plan for this?
Sorry for being rude. But I am really disappointed about what MOST or perhaps ALL communities have done related to this IBUS INTEGRATION issue. Maybe I don't have to right to be that. But the point is the whole thing is not about some super complex powerful feature request, but everyone seems out of their mind about that and keep doing things to make it worse and worse. If you think it's a NIGHTMERE to split the package, fine, but why just shut the whole thing down FOR NOTHING?

Well, clearly prices on all these tools are rapidly dropping. Now with Sony launching the 13K F3 in conjunction with the simultaneously launched Gemini 444 and Apple FCPX. All of the promos are coming from London. They're all going after the Indie market, which makes me apprehensive about challenging their marketing strategy, but at the same time, I find it objectionable that, with FCPX taking out ProRes4444 as you say, that there seems to be a collusion to isolate 444 format from the techno-revolution and mass capability. Such is the struggle for isolating class privilege and maintaining a more central control of the key to social programming...mass media...through the instruments of central banking. I can't say I'm even all together against the move from that standpoint, either, since Barclay's financed this little tool sitting on my desk right now. But I do think it should be more openly recognized and debated as a mass-media power-grab if, as you say, the ability to edit in 444 format has been stripped from Apple.

What SDK for board and card games dev?

Hi,
I'm creating board and card games as a hobby. I used Windows
GDI in the past, but my experience is that my creativity is limited
by the difficulty in manipulating sprites, transparency and
scalable graphics. I don't care about 3D. I do care about
synchronization between audio and video events. I'm currently using
MS Visual Studio 6. Games available on shockwave.com surely use
some sort of SDK to help carry these tasks, but I don't know if
they all use the same or there are many flavors available. In
extra, I like the fact you can easily develop online versions and
play online with others. Can it support Mac? I can't spend a lot of
money and time on new development tools, but maybe there is an
Adobe product that would allow me to do exactly what I have in
mind. Can someone tell me which product would best suit my need and
what should be my expectations.

What else does database and mail merge?

I’m a small non-profit with a small database, using Appleworks. I record contributions and send monthly mail merge acknowledgements. Appleworks does it all, including printing the address labels for those who contribute each month. I understand Lion won’t support Appleworks...and the only answer I can find is Filemaker which costs a fortune and is way overkill for what I need. Aren’t there countless organizations who keep a database and send monthly acknowledgements? How can it be there’s no other application that will do this?

Don't upgrade to Lion. It's a pretty box of tricks but it's hardly essential, and certainly not the indispensable "next step" that OS X, Tiger, Snow Leopard were. Stay where you are and run AW happily.
If you HAVE to get a new machine, demand that they install Snow Leopard on it.

USB drive: what format for Linux and Mac?

I'm wondering what's the best format for an external USB harddrive to be used both on Macs (Tiger and Leopard) and Linux . I'm familiar with Linux, but not much with Mac.
I'd like to avoid vfat (the MS-DOS format) because symbolic links aren't allowed there.

Following up my own question, I've formatted the USB drive in hfsplus and it works both on Macs and on my Linux box (Debian testing).
One issue is that I had to turn off the journaling of the hfsplus filesystem, because (it seems) the Linux hfsplus driver doesn't support writing to the journaled hfsplus filesystem. The earliest discussion I found was from 2005 or 2006, and it's strange that the journaling support has still not been incorporated into the mainstream Linux kernels.
Without journaling, I have to be extra careful when I remove the drive. This minor annoyance aside, it works.
But, I'm still open to suggestions. For example, what's the situation of Mac OS X in supporting ext3 or reiserfs?

What camcorder for IM and how to view on TV

Hello,
I am an absolute novice when it comes to camcorders, but have decided to get one with junior wah arriving shortly.
I would like HD, not really fussed if it has a HDD or card. I will be using IM to edit the footage and have already guessed I am going to have to upgrade my G4 powerbook to something newer.
What suggestions do you have, I was thinking about the Sanyo FH1 just because of the iframe compatibility but some of the review say the stabilisation isn't very good? Would iframe give as good end results when viewing on a TV?
I have a blueray player that decodes h.264, and was planning on using this to view the footage. Can IM burn a compatible file to DVD and then I use the blueray player to decode it and will the end result be HD?

This is just the nature of the while loop in the VB code. The processor is going to execute this loop as fast as possible. The DoEvents in the loop allows the processor to perform other operations if needed. Try opening MAX or some other program and drag windows around at the same time the code is executing. You will notice that the processor load will shift away from the VB6 program to other processes.
If you want to avoid this try adding a function similar to sleep in the while loop. However, this will slow the speed of your program and I would not recommend it, because the program is designed to run as fast as possible, but still allow other programs to execute.

Read Only for "Group" and "Others" via SMB

I see when Windows vista users of my OS X 10.5.8 server save a file to the server, the permissions show on the server as Read & Write for the owner and Read Only for 'Group' and 'Others'.
Is there a way I can make the OS X server always make 'Group' and 'Others' always be Read & Write?

It's using a shared component LOV cleverly called LOV_YN which consists of a static LOV with
1 Display=Yes, Return=Y
2 Display=No, Return=N
The settings in the LOV section on the item iteself:
Named LOV: LOV_YN
Display Extra values: No Dynamic translation: Not translated
Number of columns: 2 Display null: No
Null display value is blank as is null return value
Item was setup as a radio group and was only converted over to a select list to work around this issue. Let me know what else you need and thanks again.

Problem with UWC and Mail Filters

Hello,
We recently upgraded from ims5.2 to JES 2005Q4. With have patch -23 installed for UWC and patch -53 installed for the messaging server. Everything is going pretty well except we are having a problem with the mail filters in UWC. It seems that after a short time ( couple hours) the page stops displaying correctly. That is the buttons for example say new button instead of just new. When you click on the new button, you get a application 9 error. We have the java heap set to 1.5 gb and the webserver between .5 and 3% of the CPU. Response is great for all other pages.
Does anybody have any ideas? I have had a case open with Tech support since Last Monday, but still waiting for an answer, so any help would be appreciated.

How do I use iPhoto vs. Pictures folder for organization and viewing?

I have a high level question as to how to use, in general not specific functions, iPhoto on my new iMac. I imported all of my PC files from an external drive into the appropriate Folders (Pictures, Documents, Music, Movies) successfully. So my large collection of photos resides in many sub folders under Pictures (like ‘2012 Mom Visit’ or “Christmas 2008’).
My question is should I be using iPhoto as my primary app for viewing and organizing my full inventory of pictures, along with obviously editing/creating? Or do I use the default Pictures folder, and dig through with Finder or some search mechanisms if I only want to look at a photo and save iPhoto for editing and creating tasks? If iPhoto should be my primary photo browsing and organizing tool, and I hope so because I would like a tool to just organize/view/search all my photos rather than thumbing through the folder structure, how to I “import” or tell iPhoto where all my photos are (there are a lot under a lot of subfolders)? Will iPhoto then keep duplicate copies of these or do all my photo files remain in the Folder structure?
Bottom line: is iPhoto supposed to be my go-to place for all my photo browsing, viewing, searching as well as editing and creating? Should every photo I add to this iMac somehow be linked or imported through iPhoto?
I also have pictures in the cloud and on an iPad (since my PC died I dumped camera photos directly to the ipad) but I’ll deal with these after I understand the appropriate use for iPhoto.

The important thing to remember is there is no "supposed to" or "best way". There's what works for you and you photos. This may be iPhoto or some other app.
Couple of thoughts: iPhoto is not an editor. It's a Manager - like Contacts for your Addresses or iTunes for your Music, it offers powerful and easy to use tools that will help you manage and share your photos in the various ways you might need it. It will also enhance and crop and edit photos as well, but if you're not using it as a manager then forget about it for editing as it will be just too complex. There are loads of editors out there.
If you use iPhoto then it's your "go-to" for anything to do with your Photos. Viewing, Organising, sharing, Uploading, Printing, whatever. All of these things can be done either with or via iPhoto. Put another way, you never access your files via the Finder.

A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
As you are new to iPhoto I strongly urge you to run a Managed Library. There are many pitfalls with a Referenced one - see here for instance

and for someone new to iPhoto and The Mac you can lose data very easily with a Referenced Library.
However you store the files, importing is the same: easiest way: drag a folder of images to the iPhoto Window and iPhoto will import it and create an Event from it.
If you have a managed library then it will copy the files into its own Library. You filing structure is then pointless. You can trash it - but don't do it immediately. iPhoto is a great app, but it's not necessarily for everyone. When you've lived with it for a few weeks and are sure it's for you, that's when you can trash your own filing structure.
The problem with what you have now - files-in-folders-and-subfolders - is that it is limited. Searching is trcky as you don't have a whole lot of things to search on. I append the following to show you some of the options available in iPhoto.
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.

Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 44k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
File -> New Smart Album
set it to 'All"
title contains Seattle
keyword is mountain
keyword is snow
rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
New Smart Album
Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.
