I am currently working on Abap, So i want to learn SAP Net Weaver, And i dont know what exactly is sap Net weaver works,
so can any one give me brief Idea of Net weaver, and How to Start with Net weaver .

SAP NetWeaver is paltform to integrate various systems/ applications with the use of SAP XI technology.
SAP NetWeaver is a web-based, open integration and application platform that serves as the foundation for enterprise service-oriented architecture (enterprise SOA) and allows the integration and alignment of people, information, and business processes across business and technology boundaries. It utilizes open standards to enable integration with information and applications from almost any source or technology.

Most of the components in NetWeaver Technology is using Java Runtime .
As J2EE technology is a open technology , and its is too easy for J2EE applications to access through Web.
So if u have a java background , it will more easy to understand the concepts and application developments in NetWeaver platform..
All components in NetWeaver technology have its own use .Not so easy to become an expert in all. My opinion is ,if u have Java and ABAP experience , then start from Application Platform and Enterprise Portal First...
On the way u will get why i suggetst like this....

Difference between NetWeaver 2004 and NetWeaver 7.0 or 7.1

I am little confused and curious to know the recent changes happening in SAP.
Can you please tell me the differences between NetWeaver 2004 and NetWeaver 7.0 or 7.1
NetWeaver 2004 is named because SAP has released it in 2004
and then we have XI 3.0, XI.7.0(that is PI right) , EP6.0 etc as individual components have different versions released in NewtWeaver suite.
But what is this NetWeaver 7.0.
We have EE5 or ECC6 and WebAs 6.4 or GUI 6.4 or recently GUI 7.o or WebAs 7.0.
How does all these differe, is individual component of NetWeaver upgraded with higher versions or total NetWever is upgraded with a higher version.
Can any one please tell me the exact difference between versions.
If some one has ECC6 installed in their environment does it mean that they have Netwaver components like XI, EP, MDM.. etc are installed or its only R/3, BI etc...

Help With Netweaver Developer Studio Version

Hi everyone I have a problem, I am doing some examples to programmer Web dynpro using netweaver developer studio, How can I know what is my Netweaver Developer Studio version? Because I have a trial version and I dont know if my version is compatible to doing some examples, for example I found this link

and I wanna doing the example "Using EJBs in Web Dynpro" and when I open this document it starts with SAP netweaver 04 and I don't know if my trial version is compatible with this example.

Open your NWDS, go to Help/About.
Most likely you will see something like:
Version: 7.0.11
If version is 7.0.X, your NWDS is NetWeaver 7.0, formerly known as NetWeaver 2004s.
Most likely there will be no problem running examples from NW 2004, earlier version.
Just make sure your JDK you have on your dev computer has similar version as JDK on the target server, if you are building locally and deploying your application to another server.
Post if you have a different version.
We will guess what NW version it belongs to.

What is easier to program in labview?

i need to send a number that i enter in the labView interface to a
microcontroller and based on that number create a PWM signal to vary
the duty cycle of a computer fan to create a desired speed. I am
wondering which way is easier to program for sending data to the
microcontroller(USB, serial port, parallel port). I also need to
read in the tachsignal to display to tachometer reading of the fan as
well.
this may sound like a weird question but what exactlly would labview
put out the the data link to the microcontroller to represent that
number
that i have put in. I know that it will be digital data and that
will be converted to analog signal in the microcontroller.
I am just wondering how when i read in that analog signal i can figure
out what PWM to make.
i am new to labview and have to do this for senior design.

Serial communication will probably be the best way to do this.
LabVIEW sends commands as strings to the microcontroller and when you read from microcontroller it will be a string in LabVIEW. You will need to typecast the string to whatever your controller is sending.
Here's a link to Serial Communication - Basic Serial Write and Read. It will give you a basic idea of how serial communication is done in LabVIEW. There are also examples in LabVIEW under Help-> Find Examples that might be able to help you also.

I am a new nut guy trying to understand Sap NetWeaver. Could you guys explain to me just briefly in the most simplest ordinary terms about points below. I tried to read documentations but do not understand completely.
1) What is Sap NetWeaver? Does it comes with several components?
2) What is Web AS?? what does it serve?
3) I heard about Web Dynpro for Java and Web Dynpro for Abap. They are used to develop Web applications in Java language and the other in Abap language. I'm interested just on knowing the Java side.
I just want to understand the hardware systtem achitecture and associated software to be installed.
Now for Java, I heard that we need to install Web Developper Studio, rite?? then which version should I install, Sap Netweaver SP16 or Sap Neweaver 2004 or Sap Netweaver 2004s?? where can i find it?? should it be installed in front end station? do i need Java?
Now for Web AS, where do i install it??

Hi Ralph, I will try to keep it simple.

1) What is Sap NetWeaver? Does it comes with several components?

SAP Netweaver is the platform in which all SAP software runs on top of. For example R/3 ran on the "Basis" layer, this is simular in ECC6.0, where ECC is the R/3 part and Netweaver(ABAP stack) is the "Basis" Layer. With Netweaver you get two stacks, ABAP and Java. SAP components run on one or the other. Netweaver includes, but is not limited to:
Netweaver Application Server(formerly called WebAS)
Netweaver Portal(formerly called EP)
Netweaver XI(I think there is a new name for this)
etc.

2) What is Web AS?? what does it serve?

WebAS is now called Netweaver Application Server, this is the basis for all applications, whether ABAP or java based. For example the ECC(R/3 component) runs on the ABAP stack of Netweaver Application Server, the Netweaver Portal runs on the Java stack of NW Application Server.

3) I heard about Web Dynpro for Java and Web Dynpro for Abap. They are used to develop Web applications in Java language and the other in Abap language. I'm interested just on knowing the Java side.

For the java side, you develop the webdynpro applications locally on your laptop using NWDS(Netweaver Developer Studio) and then deploy this application to the Netweaver Application Server(java stack). You can then implement the application into an iView in the NW Portal.

Which NWDS to install depends on the version of the java engine in which you are working with. The rule is that you keep the version of NWDS in sync with the version of the Netweaver Application Server(java engine). Usually the NW AS, is intalled on a standalone server(not your laptop), but you can install sneak preview editions on your laptop for testing .

EP, a part of Netweaver is similar to the IBM Web Sphear and biz talk is a middleware as XI.
6) What are the differences between Netweaver, Web Sphear and biz talk?
Web Sphear is related to web application.But Netweaver is collection of products like XI, EP. WAS can be compared to the Web Sphear.

Question on Netweaver version and XI 3.0 SP17

In order to install SP17 what version of Netweaver should we be on. My client is on Netweaver 2004s. Can they not migrate to SP17?

SP 17 is for XI 3.0 for Netweaver 2004.
For Netweaver 2004s, you have PI 7.0 and SP7.

Difference b/w SAP BW and SAP Netweaver BI ?

Hi Friends! could some one tell me the difference between SAP BW and SAP Netweaver BI ? In what way BI Netweaver 3.5 is different from SAP BW? is BW and BI are same? if there is any difference between BI and BW then what are they?

Hi all,
Please let me try to clarify this discussion. "SAP BW" is the former standalone component name. We now refer to "Business Intelligence" or "BI" instead of "BW", EXCEPT when making reference to the release numbers for older versions, e.g., SAP BW 3.1 Content. Now, of course, BI is just a part of the SAP NetWeaver platform. SAP BW 3.5 is the BI component of SAP NetWeaver 2004 - we had already name the component before the merge into the platform, hence the continuing use of "BW". With the latest release, BI is simply part of SAP NetWeaver 2004s.
So, from a terminology perspective, SAP NetWeaver BI is simply an evolution from SAP BW.
If you want to know the differences between the current SAP BW 3.x releases and SAP NetWeaver 2004s, please search the SAP NetWeaver 2004s forum that was set up for BI at /community [original link is broken], which contains several threads with both a discussion of the new features and links to more information. This question has also been posted more than once to this forum! Please search the forums first before starting a new thread.
