What exactly is Apple Care

When i buy it and add it to my iPhone, and a button doesnt work and i sent it in. How much will it cost AND What will they do? Do i get a new iphone. For example i get a new iPhone 4 Since thats what i have?  Or will they just fix it. Im sorry if this isnt making any since.

If you have Apple Care, you send in your device and it's broke?
They fix it.
Apple Care is $99, one time fee.
You may receive a new device, they may fix it. Whichever is cheaper for Apple.
Lastly, you receive two incidents of accidental damage (phone drowned, screen broke... etc) for free.
Beat that carrier insurance.

  • What exactly can Apple TV play?

I have been getting some confusing messages about exactly what Apple TV can play.
If the file - music, film, whatever - has been downloaded by whatever source to my iMac can this be streamed to my Apple TV? If I have downloaded a DVD or CD to my iMac can this be watched on Apple TV?
Are there any limitations to this? If, for example, some of my music has been purchased through iTunes UK and some through Canada will this cause any issues?

Oh I may stand corrected. http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20090215033647292 Looks like you need to put some elbow grease in to make it work though. Does anyone know for sure if the Mac Mini or the Mac Pro for that matter can do 5.1 output. I'm reading mixed things. Some peps say you need a special sound card...other say it can be corrected with third party software. I just remember when I first got my 2007 Mac Pro the first thing I did was hook up the optical cable to my Yamaha receiver and was bummed to not hear 5.1 from dvd's or quicktime movies with ac3 encodings.

  • What exactly did Apple Repair accomplish?

    Hi,
I sent in my MacBook for repair last week because of a high pitched chirping that occured on playback when I used the built-in mic and built-in iSight simultaneously. I just got it back about half an hour ago, and the problem still exists.
They did change out a few parts, one being the heatsink assembly (HEATSINK ASSY, K36), but I have no clue what "PCBA, MLB, BEST" is, or what either of them have to do with a faulty microphone.
The problem description on the work order read:
"Issue: When recording audio with the built-in microphone, you get a loud, annoying high-pitched noise when activating the built-in iSight camera. The sound goes away when recording audio only."
At the moment, I am nowhere near an Apple Store, and my complimentary phone support is expired. If I call Apple Support about the repair in particular, will they try to charge me?
I may just end up driving out somewhere just to have it sent for repair again...

Alright, so I was digging through my Trash in hopes of finding some evidence (QuickTime recording-- or something) that Apple tested the hardware before shipping it back to me.
Thankfully, I did... and playing it back, I noticed two things about the video:
    1. The high-pitched "chirping" interference was gone
    2. The location of the recording was in a warehouse-like environment -- which means lots of background noise and very bright lighting conditions -- (i.e. tungsten-based light sources)
You may be wondering why I even bothered to mention the lighting conditions... but let me try to explain.
All the tests that I've run were under "normal indoor lighting conditions", meaning 75- watt light bulbs. Further testing proved that when reducing the amount light, the interference would get progressively worse, maybe because the iSight is working harder to pick up whatever ambient light is available.
Right now, it's raining outside, very cloudy.. House lights are off, and the window blinds are open. I start recording (both video and audio), and the interference is very loud. When I turn on some lights in the house, the interference is still there and still very noticeable, but nowhere near the level when lights in the house were off. When I point the camera to the ceiling at the light source, the interference (which is nearly "chirp-like") smooths into a steady tone and greatly reduces in volume.
Hmmm...Another thing I've noticed about the video left behind by Apple:
    3. The iSight camera was pointing toward the ceiling and the bright warehouse lights when the test was conducted.
    Any takers?

  • Apple care cover battery?

In what instance does Apple Care would cover a battery?
My late 2008 MBP's battery is at 288 cycles and on full charge, its only got 34% (1950mAh) health according to iStat widget. In normal usage, it lasts about an hour. Is this battery defected? And whats Apple Care's policy on this?

You would need to contact Apple in order to get an accurate response. If your machine is still under warranty (in your case, you would have to have the extended AppleCare), Apple will often replace a battery with less than 300 cycles. This is, however, not always the case. Reports of how Apple deals with failing batteries vary greatly from person to person. They are generally considered consumable items. Apple does seem to offer preferential treatment for those with AppleCare however.
I don't believe that Apple actually guarantees that the batteries will last a specific number of cycles.

  • Whats does mac book pro apple care exactly over? everthing but lost or stolen?

mac book pro apple care exactly over? everthing but lost or stolen?

It's hardware coverage of factory defects to three years from the date of purchase of the machine + phone support.
You can buy it within the one year standard warranty, but it's still only three years max.
Doesn't cover software issues, data recovery, user damage, accidents or thefts.  OS X may be reinstalled in the repair process but really doesn't count as fixing software issues.
It's sort of mandatory, as eventually one will upgrade OS X and a firmware update can brick a logicboard by exposing unknown flaws or drivers for video cards causing issues.
Never upgrade OS X without AppleCare in place as Apple has multiple points of potential failure on the logicboard, the parts are not more seperated like on PC's and thus cheaper to fix.
A new logicboard out of applecare is prohibitive, you'll be better off buying a new machine.

  • What does Apple Care cover exactly?

My iPhone 6 Plus has several nicks along the edges, and so does the screen. Would Apple Care (My first free year) cover this, with a set base price I'm assuming?

No. Cosmetic damage is not covered.

  • What does Apple Care cover?

I'm going to be making the switch to Apple and getting a Macbook and I'm curious as to what exactly Apple Care covers. If something happens and it accidentally breaks, will it still be covered even if it was my fault?

Essentially, AppleCare is just an extension to your standard warranty.
    Your standard warranty comes with:
    1) 90 days of phone support (for setup questions, trouble-shooting, OS X issues, Apple software questions, etc.).
    2) Hardware repairs for manufacturer defects, component failure, etc. (not user caused, and no cosmetic repairs).
AppleCare simply extends both of these warranties to 3 years maximum coverage (counted from the date of the computer's original sale).
For more information on AppleCare, you can read here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/products/proplan.html
    Hope this helps.

  • Ok so I so my IPod Touch has the same problem as the one before. The headphone jack. The i hear prefectly on the right but not the left. This my second time. What do I do to fix it? I do have the Apple Care!

I tried all my head phones and its the left side. This happened to me before, and I got a new one. I need help what I do? How do I fix this problem. If they do give me a new one do I have to buy the Apple Care again. Can they fix it. Wht am I doing wrong? Am i Putting the headphone in my ipod wrong. What is it? Ughh!!! This is annoying!!!!!

Well if the same problem happens to all your ipods, it makes me suspect that there is something wrong with your headphones, as it would be a strange coincidence that all the ipods have the same problem.
Unless the ipods have the same problem with different headphones!

  • Netflixs no longer streams instantly on firefox even with silver app updates.  Netflix said to call Apple Care that it is an Apple problem.  What to do since I am not going to pay Apple for the solution

Recently Netflixs stopped instantly streaming their videos on Firefox even after installing silver----- update.  When I called Netflix, they said it was the Firefox browser and not them and told me to call apple care.  I do not have apple care coverage and want to know if I can solve this proble or is it Apple that is refusing to comply by making the browser incompatible with netflix software.  I can get Netflix on my Roku.

Hope the following helps.  The secret seems to be to NOT download Silverlight from Netflix site.
MacBook Pro  / Mozilla Firefox / Netflix / Silverlight Update solved - DON'T DWNLOAD FROM NETFLIX
I solved this problem tonight. I have a MacBook Pro with 10.5.8. I know, it's old. But I love my Netflix and I recently noticed that Firefox plays Netflix much better.  Then I suddenly got this message that I needed to download the latest Silverlight - it only takes 30 seconds! - WRONG.   However, after much searching, I finally did the steps in order and it worked.
This was after repeatedly downloading Silverlight from the Netflix site without success.  So here's what I did:
    1. Went to http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx
    2. Followed the directions. I felt like such an idiot for not doing it right before.
    3. Go to your hard drive and search for "Silverlight" to locate ANY existing Silverlight files: .dmg, etc.
[also check your Libary/ Internet Plug-ins, but the above search is faster]
    4. Drag it all to the trash and empty it.
    5. Go back to the Get  Silverlight page and click on the Install on that page, not the Netflix site.
    6. Note the steps for Safari or Mozilla Firefox - I wanted Firefox, so I follwed those instructions.
    7. Once it's installed, close all the browsers and Restart that bad boy. Right away.
    8. Open a browser, go to Netflix and proceed to joyfully rot your brain with Netflix content. Yay!

  • My Iphone4 Home button sometimes work nicely and sometimes it stop working. India Apple care says they cant give me even paid support because i bought phone from Australia. i don't know what to do. i m disappointed with the product and service support

My Iphone4 Home button sometimes work nicely and sometimes it stop working. India Apple care says they cant give me even paid support because i bought phone from Australia. i don't know what to do. i m disappointed with the product and service support

When you buy an iPhone in the U.S. it's locked to that country with the carrier you bought it for.
If you bought the device unlocked in the U.S. it's unlocked, you can use it on any carrier. Even one's outside the country.
If you want to do a repair on a device you bought in the U.S. and your using it in another country, you must send it back to the U.S. Why? That's where you bought it from.
AppleCare Protection Plans and AppleCare Limited Warranties are registered to your hardware.
    Your hardware is your iPhone.
Wherever hardware that was bought then that's the country it was designed to be used in and that's where it was manufactured.
Apple is very localized - if you call U.S. tech support, you'll speak to somone in your country.
So, what does all this mean?
In order to do a repair, you need to send it back to the country you got it from.
And we're all customers like you. We understand that you're upset, but Apple isn't gonna bend the rules to one individual.
Policy is policy. Get over it.

  • What is the difference  between apple care protection plan and apple care

What is the difference between apple care protection plan and apple care +

    apple care protection plan
That is the extended warranty (total of 3 years including the standard warranty for the first year) for any Mac computer.
    apple care +
That is the extended warranty (total of 2 years including the standard warranty for the first year) for any iDevice (iPad, iPhone, etc).
For either, the standard warranty is usually referred to as hardware warranty (not Applecare); see an example for the warranty for an iMac:
    http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/embedded-mac-warranty-us.html
whereas the extended Applecare is referred to as that:

  • What and for how long additional OR separate benefits I receive after buying Apple Care?

I bought a MBA 13" in India (home) last month.
I wanted to know about Apple Care / Extended warranty that is available for sth like ~15K (INR).
Can you please give me a detail as in what do I get with this for my Mac and for how long?
Can I buy this before the day my current/default warranty expires or shall I have to buy this within some stipulated period from the day of purchase of my Mac?
What is already available for my Mac as of now and for how long? Shall anything be added to warranty or care that is available with my Mac as of now? Shall be added right from the day I buy it or it will happen so after my current warranty/care gets used up i.e. after completion or 1 year or for whatever period MBAs comes with care/warranty. So, these extended warranty simply increases the number of years on my protection plan or gives additional cookies?
If I buy an iPhone5 then shall I have to purchase separate apple care for that? Or is it available for all my Apple products? Or if not then are there such plans that I can buy to cover all or many of my apple products and are cheaper as a combined purchase?
Within that period if let's say my Keypad fails screen goes kaput then Apple will either fix it/replace it or it will ask for extra money if it needs replacement? Or will ask for extra money even if it was not accidental damage (my fault)? I read sth about accidental damage with AppleCare purchase - it adds to the first year also or only during the next two years (or next 3 years - not sure how long it holds).
Shall I have to buy it offline or i can buy it online too? What if I buy from another country (online/offline) if it's available for cheap over there?
I see some deals on such packages on eBay - mostly on USA eBay, and have read posts people buying it but they were mostly from USA/EU. Can I buy one of those? Shall they be valid for my product(s)?
By the way, does Apple provide an email support with those plans because I couldn't find one email address for Apple support.
