Did you happen to bring this iTunes library over from a windows machine? You might read this kb article to see if it helps http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451

My itunes library suddenly that the file “iTunes Library.itl” does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has created a new iTunes library and renamed this file to “iTunes Library (Damaged)”. I use an external hard drive for my Itunes.

The library file appears to have been corrupted.  You say you use your external drive but is the whole library on it or only your media?  No matter, you will have to rebuild the library file:

  • ITunes error: "The file iTunes Library.itl does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file."

Every couple of weeks I get this iTunes error after connecting iPod Nano 6th generation. Then it deletes my whole iPod content. I am running Windows 7 x64 Enterprise with latest patches, iTunes 10.2.2.14 and McAfee antivirus.
I tried to reinstall QuickTime + iTunes, clean the system and then reinstall. But this does not work. I also tried to create a brand new library. But no success...

    Any idea?

No I haven't. I tried almost everything possible but without any remarkable shift. I am about to sell my brand new iPod:(

does enyone know how to fix this for ever?
    thanks.

Katrina, created test, copied ITL (I Tunes Library file?) across, did the shift thing, I Tunes opens with my songs, created a play list, closed I tunes, re-opened it, play list still there. Is that what you mean?
I think I have some other issues as well.
    I Tunes says 2477 songs/485 artists, my I Pod has 300 more.
Windows explorer suggests 589 artists (I keep library organised) I've lost the connection to the "movie" folder.
Also despite songs appearing in the library, they won't play in I Tunes at all. Fine on Ipod (although not docked since this started), fine with other media. players in same location.
Is this a nightmare where I have to delete everything & start again?

    Hi shyanne23,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If your iTunes library file has become damaged in some way, you may want to try recreating your iTunes library and playlists by following this article:

  • ITuneslibrary.itl does not appear to be a valid itunes library file

My computer had problems and I had to reinstall all my programs. I just had to reinstall itunes 8.0.1.11. I uninstalled itunes and after reinstalling and importing my songs backed up on a flash drive I now get a message stating:
iTunes file "iTuneslibrary.itl" does not appear to be a valid library file. iTunes has attempted to recover your iTunes library and remamed this file to "iTuneslibrary(Damaged).itl"
What can be done to restore everything so the error message goes away and all my songs are in iTunes?
    Thanks

actually I am having the same problems. it happened shortly after I installed itunes 8, however this also coincided with some music uploading. My problem is traced now through three different machines, all with the same mp3 library. However mine may be a little more problematic, because after I get this message, I quit itunes, then when I restart it I get the message about "itunes cannot run because of of its required files are missing. please reinstall itunes" Which I do and a few hours or days later I am faced with the exact same problem. I have tried re-writing my libray.xml file, re-importing library files, erasing all traces of itunes from my computer, installing on a fresh hard drive, and I even scanned all my mp3's using symantec antivirus, nothing appears strange. I am at a loss, and cannot find an answer. Does anyone have an answer?

  • Getting "The file iTunes Library.itl does not appear to be valid iTunes .."

    Hi there,
    Help please
Windows VISTA Home Premium, with Core 2 Duo 2.66ghz, 2gig DDR2, 300 gig SATA, 512meg nVidia card, dual DVD-RW's, clean install with purchased OEM VISTA from MicroCenter.
Naturally I ran into the VISTA errors everyone posted about, however after uninstalling and reinstalling the newest version, reloading my 600 songs and movies, subscribing to podcasts, etc.. I seem to get periodic errors when opening iTunes - where it states my library.itl files not a valid iTunes library file and marks my file as DAMAGED and I lose my Library. Is this an XML issue? It's very odd because it opens, updates podcasts, plays fine, syncs, then in the morning, I get the error stated above and my librarys hosed and I have to uninstall, clean registry, delete leftovers, try again... only to have it work for a week or so..
    Any guidance would be appreciated!
    Jeff

Hmm.. wonder if this is still applicable - yes I realize it's being done on a Mac ..but it is an old version, but should work in theory (I hope)..

  • Itunes Library does not appear to be a valid music library

Ever since downloaded Itunes 5, deleted started again back with 4.9 I have had nothing but problems. All my tunes are stored on an external hard drive.
I have just reloaded all my music and tidied it all up nicely and then when it went to update the ipod this is the message I got :

iTunes has attempted to recover your music library and renamed this file iTunes 4musiclibrary(damaged)1.itl
PLEASE HELP as this is really cracking me up now.

This is really old, not sure how much still applies:

  • Try to open itunes it says "itunes does not appear to be a valid music file

i've uninstalled itunes before and reinstalled it off of the internet and i try to open it and it says "the file "itunes library.itl" does not appear to be a valid music library file. itunes has attempted to recover your music library and renamed this file to itunes library (damaged)

Back up your music and then uninstall it; while the uninstallation process doesn't affect the library, other things can.

  • Itunes library does not appear to be a valid itunes library file

i'm importing AIFF files into itunes, converting those to AAC and deleting the original AIFF files. i tried to import an album of AIFF's and received a message that i didn't have enough hard drive space to import so itunes would import as many of the files as it could. i knew i'd get to this point and would have to transfer some files onto my hard drive. however, when i clicked okay, the computer froze. i restarted manually and received the following message after attempting to open itunes "the file 'itunes library 2009-12-06' does not appear to be a valid itunes library file. itunes has created a new itunes library and renamed this file to 'itunes library (damaged)'." i'm not sure why this happened and i can't find 'itunes library (damaged)' anywhere. i have all my music still i just can't get itunes back to the way it was. please help! thanks so much.

I'll try and make this as concise as possible. Was following another thread that was "archived" without a solution. I randomly will get the error message 1450 "itunes library does not appear to be a valid itunes library - renamed library damaged." I've done everything and I'm at level 2 with phone support. The fixes we've tried seem to solve the problem momentarily but a few weeks will go by and the problem happens again. I loose all my podcasts and have to reload all music. My daughters have a different user account on the same computer and it happens to them as well. We have tried only loading itunes music files and that doesn't fix the problem either. We've reinstalled many times. I have an internal additional hard drive where I store the music but I've tried installing and saving everything on my original drive and the problem happens that way as well. I've read many threads and those of us with this problem aren't finding any answers. Please Apple or someone help with this. I'm ready to change phones and music players.

  • ITunes11, it does not appear to be a valid library file

    MBP, OS10.8.2, iTunes11
When i close the iTunes, and try and reopen, sometimes i get an error message the "file "" cannot be read because it does not appear to be a valid library file".
When i restart the computer it seems to be a temporary fix.
This started happening when i upgarded to iTunes10.7, and the problem still persists in iTunes11.
70,000 songs, so i really dont want to rebuild my Library.

  • HT2486 The selected file does not appear to be a valid comma separated values (csv) file or a valid tab delimited file. Choose a different file.

The selected file does not appear to be a valid comma separated values (csv) file or a valid tab delimited file. Choose a different file.

I guess your question is, "what's wrong with the file?"
You're going to have to figure that out yourself, as we cannot see the file.
Importing into Address book requires either a tab-delimited or a comma-delimited file. You can export out of most spreadsheets into a csv file. However, you need to make sure you clean up the file first.  If you have a field that has commas in the field, they will create new fields at the comma. So, some lines will have more fields than the others, causing issues like the error you saw.

What to do if the contact of a APP does not respons. IT about APP=Fish Society of Global Agent Inc

If the developer doesn't respond, there's really not much you can do. If you did not receive an in-app purchase, were overcharged for such a purchase, or the game just won't work, you can try contacting iTunes Store support:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
but they may just direct you back to the developer.

While trying to download Oracle 8i/9i i keep getting the message
'Cannot open file it does not appear to be a valid archive'
Can someone please help me with this
i have tried to download this 10 times already but of no use
    Thanks
    Rimpy

I was getting a similar, if not the same, problem when I used IE 5.5 to download the file. It used to start extracting then stop about 75% of the way through and dump some error about the archive being corrupt and not being able to open it. After installing Netscape and disabling the download manager application, I was able to download and extrac the zip files with winzip 8 and also winrar without any problems.
