    At the Oracle/Sun merger event, we heard from Larry Ellison and the guy heading up the OpenOffice effort about "Cloud Office".
    The "Cloud Office" initiative seemed pretty exciting, in that it was going to be a variant of OpenOffice but hosted on the cloud. (similar to "Google Apps" or Microsoft "Office Live" ).
    We have'nt heard anything about it since then.
    Here's a request to the PM's and other folks responsible for this effort.
    1) Open Development. Hopefully there can be an "Oracle Forum" in which this activity can be carried out. (requirements, design, coding, testing etc). Hopefully it can also be re-architected to be SOA'ish.
    2) Keep the SDK uptodate. I had used the OpenOffice SDK a while ago, and it was'nt a fun experience.
    3) JavaFX : Given that JavaFX is Java's focus on the client, it would be the technology to use for this effort. Again Larry alluded to this, but there has been no news since.
    4) Oracle's BeeHive could also get a boost from an integration with Cloud Office.

    First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
    Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

    What happened is that version 1.0 of the security update was available for a bit of time this weekend, and that disabled Rosetta.  Version 1.1 brought it back.

    Well, We cannot compare Cloud Vs ESB.Both work in a different manner and concptually different.
    ESBs are good for routing messages to multiple destinations. It is also good for doing transformations that have little to no business rules. The footprint is much smaller and incurs minimal overhead therefore the performance is much better.
    Use ESB when You want a really low cost solution,Only need connectivity, simple transformations and routing of messages.
    Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous,convenient, on-demand n/w access to shared pool of configurable resources . for ex: servers,networks,apps, services that can be rapidly provisioned.
    There are different model of cloud: basically, delivery models:
    SaaS,PaaS,IaaS
    SaaS (Software as a service) - here consumers does not have control over operating system,hardware or any n/w infrastructure. Instead, It uses an application.
    PaaS (Platform as a Service) - here The consumer controls the applications that run in the environment (and possibly has some control over the hosting environment), but does not control the operating system, hardware or network
    infrastructure on which they are running.The consumer uses a hosting environment for their applications.
    IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) - The consumer can control the operating system, storage, deployed applications and possibly networking components such as firewalls and load balancers, but not the cloud infrastructure beneath them. The consumer uses "fundamental computing resources" such as processing power, storage, networking components or middleware.
    I think i would not be wrong if i take examples for cloud as : Email hosting, Gmail, Facebook and social networking sites..etc.

    Anyone know what the cloud icon in Safari 6 is for?  This is what I always see when I click it: http://d.pr/i/AJ3f.  I have an iPad and iPhone that I constantly use Safari with.  Their open tabs defnitely don't show up on Mac.  I have the latest iOS on both devices.

  • G570 Clean install Windows 7 - What happens to Office?

    Hi there,
    After a long-winded diagnostic (okr fail, chkdsk fail, bootrec fail, no drive detected) and a hardware diagnostic from WD, I concluded that the hard drive is bust. Oh well, a new one is on the way.
    My question is ----
    While I can use the code on the stickers to activate a new Window 7, what happens to Office? How can I activate the office in the new drive?

    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
    The Lenovo G570 is preloaded with MS Office 2010. If you bought a copy of MS Office when you purchased the computer, you should receive a product key card that contains the 25 digit product key. If you purchased it at a store, the product key should be located on the packaging. If you purchased it online, the product key should be sent to your email along with a download link for the MS Office application.
    Check this product key card FAQs and check this guide on how to activate your copy of MS Office.

  • It seems that my Office 2008 is incompatible with the Yosemite OS that my friend just installed on my iMac. My Word no longer works. Also, I can't access messages on Entourage. What version of Office should I buy?

    My friend installed OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on my iMac. Since then, I can barely use my Miocrsoft Word 2008.  The spinning pinwheel, things freezing up, template and formatting trouble, and I can't get any Entourage messages more than a year old, which is a disaster.  I read that Yosemite won't support Word 2008. What Microsoft Update should I buy, and will that fix my problems?  I am desperate. Thank you in advance for your help.  Here is the result I got from EtreCheck.     Remove Office 2008 for Mac using Microsoft deinstall procedure. Reinstall Office 2008 for Mac.  If there are updates, apply them. Using Disk Utility, verify/repair permissions on your boot drive.
    Does Office for Mac 2008 now work correctly? If not, you may want to repeat the above first sentence, and then update to Office for Mac 2011, and apply the latest (14.4.8) update which has Yosemite fixes.

  • Can't find songs, playlists, and don't know what this cloud is my music seems to be floating off to.

    Ever since I got my new iPod, my music library is insane. I lost all my playlists to begin with. I can't see my full library unless I go to iTunes Store!!!  I didn't pay for the cloud, yet all my songs in iTunes have a cloud next to them. My libraries are missing most of my songs, except, as I said, when I sign in to iTunes Store, then, as I said, still none of my previous playlists, are there. I have searched my Previous Libraries on my computer, and I can't find the very songs I was just working with the other day. This all started when I connected my Nano. I will not be using it again. Apparently it had something to do with this. Although I did upgrade to latest version of iTunes to use it, so maybe that's the problem. What's with this Cloud business? I didn't pay anything to get it, and yet it appears all my music is in it????? My biggest problem is that there is no Chat available, and when I go for help, they want a serial number. There's no serial number for iTunes. I am one step from leaving iTunes altogehter. But I have spent so much money here. HELP

  • What exactly is Office Tools in the sharepoint Designer 2010 install?

    I was looking for a solution to problems we have been having with Office 2003 and Sharepoint 2010 and I was able to fix it by installing Sharepoint Designer 2010. However I didn't want to install the entire Sharepoint Designer software on the clients PC
    so I just installed Office Tools from the installer but I can't figure out what it's changing for this to work.
    Can you give me an idea as to what exactly being installed in the Office Tools component of Sharepoint Designer?

    According to you description,my understanding is you want to know how it fixed your problem by installing Office Tools.If yes,please refer the below description.
    All Microsoft Office components from MS Office 2007 and newer contains a component (OWSSUPP.DLL) that implements full integration with SharePoint. Full integration is often noticed by the user in that it enables checking documents in and out from the application
    (as opposed to manually checking out and downloading the document, open the application manually and work with the file, manually uploading the file to the right SharePoint site and checking it in again).
    So when you install Office Tools in the Client machine,the above dll will get installed an enabled in the browser and user will get option to open the document/excel file from the SharePoint site using the local Office Product which was installed in the
    client machine.That dll integrates the SharePoint application with Office Product.

    We can only help based on the information you give us. If you say that your device is wireless, we think that you think your device is wireless.  You wouldn't be the first to think it had a wireless interface... Also, you didn't say that everything had been working, and then stopped; I thought you were a first-time user. Loss of connection is probably the most common problem with the MyCloud; search the forums for 'connection', and you'll find dozens of threads. The most common problem is that your router has changed the IP address it allocates to your MyCloud, and your network hasn't quite caught up with this change yet; your computer ought to be able to work this out, but it often cannot, and continues to try to connect to the old IP address. The answer may be as simple as re-booting your router (which will also cause your MyCloud to reboot), which may force everything to refresh IP addresses. Then, use your router's control interface to find out what the MyCloud's IP address is, and set it either to be static, using that address, or set it to DHCP 'always use this address' or 'infinite lease' or some such phrase, depending on your router. This will stop the IP address changing in future. Once you have the IP address, you can establish contact with the Dashboard by entering <IP address>/UI/ in your web browser's address field, where <IP address> is the numeric address you have found (it may be something like 192.168.1.24, or other formats; see here).

    I work on a second hand macbook pro running on 10.9 and now want office for mac on it, additionally to the sofware I already have.
    On my old macbook I had office 2004 and since I still have two product codes unused was hoping these can still be used, but I tried to install it and it's just not supported anymore.
    Since I don't have a lot of budget right now I hope 2008 may be possible to be installed since I can get one for only a little money (want no illegal copies), but it's a shame to get it if it turns out not to work.......I read somewhere 2008 is not supported anymore but I don't know if that necessarily means it cannot be installed.....
    or do I need 2011 at least?
    Or would 10.9 actually only allow the latest 2013 version to be installed?
    I'd like to know before buying anything......
    Right now it actually has an office 2011 version installed by the previous user but unfortunately that one was not activated and I have no way to retrieve the product code.
    as i said, i like it to be legal, that's why I prefer buying the original software and the older versions can be found cheaper......

    Office 2011 is the current boxed version for the Mac. The two versions are Home and Business. The difference (besides price) is that the Business version includes Outlook. Both contain Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
    Actually, the Home version also has Outlook hidden on the disk. If you decided later you want to use Outlook, you can call Microsoft for an unlock code to install it from the Home version disk. The unlock cost is essentially the difference between the Home and Business versions.
    You mentioned Office 2013, but that's the current Windows version. MS hasn't really stated one way or another if there will be a feature comparable boxed Mac version. If there is, it looks like we won't see it until sometime in 2014. To get the current functionality of Office 2013 in a Mac product, you'd have to purchase the subscription based Office 365.
    It does depend on your needs. Often, Office must be used for true compatibility with people you work, or collaborate with. It also has many features the free alternatives don't offer, and can't import or replicate. Otherwise, as Gary noted, Open Office is a good free choice.
