What is Infoprovider

Hi Gurus
can anybody tell what is Infoprovider and what is data target. Also homany types of testing available in BW and when we use those testings.
Points will be awarded.
Thankyou,
Raj

Hi,
Unit Tests are defined and performed by developers. A process consists usually of several functions. Each of this function usually consists of "sub-functions" corresponding to a single method or a group of methods (if you are developing OO-based).
Unit Tests could be described as white-box tests whereas a normal tester (which should be not identical to the developer) will test entire functions (black-box tests).
You have to have the ABAP unit implemented in the code for this to be used...pls see the link from SAP help..

Regression testing is basically done after a Version/Patch upgrade o ensure all the BW functionalities are working fine. Now regression testing is done in different ways in different systems.
Sandbox - All the loads are tested - both manually and thro' process chains. Since sandbox does not have much resources only a sample load is tested. New features delivered with version/patch upgrade is tested.
Dev Box - All the developments are tested here like creation of a cube, ODS, Ino-object, reports, web-templates, etc... No loads are tested here. New features delivered with version/patch upgrade are tested. Creation of a test transport request.
QA Box - All the loads are tested here fully. Since the QA box more or less has the same data/resources as Prod Box a full load test is done here.
If there is any problem faced in any of the tests they need to be resolved first befoe proceeding to the next box. Any OSS Note that is to be applied is first applied in Sandbox then Dev and then QA.
Typically each Organisation has its own set of Regression test Doc prepared. So you would need to prepare one for your needs.

  • InfoProvider with non-cumulative key figures

what does infoprovider with non-cumulative key figures...
    noncumulative key figures..
    looking for reply

it's property of the KF... nothing do with Cubes or ODS.
Name itself telling non-Cumulative KF. We can't cumulate this KF. Suppose take the Case Sales Amount and No of Employees. Sales Amount can be cumulated over Time. But No Employees can't be cumulated. Same is the Case with Stock as well.

  • SAP BO/BW versions.

    Hello,
We are planning to set up a new system for our internal team that will get BI training. Our Basis team has asked me if they can provide me the exact version of it.
Earlier I proposed them BI 7.4 , but now I feel if it's better to go with BO 4.1 as it has BI version in-built.
If anyone can put more highlight on this, that would be very helpful.
    Regards,
    Max

    Hi Max,
HANA is a data base, where data will be stored and sorted. Where as in BI we will create infocubes, DSO, Multiprovider or what ever Infoprovider, it will just hit the data base and get the data accordingly...
After having infoprovider we will design the Queries based on the business requirement in Business Explorer...
The Queries which have been created in BI (Business Explorer) will be made available for the Reporting in BOBJ by doing some connection..i.e BI and BOBJ Integration.
You are talking about training purpose, so you do not load data regularly from data base, because you will play with the data from Infoproviders, so you can run the report even with out data base connection.

    G S Ramanjaneyulu.

  • What is the use of master data listed in infoprovider?

    Dera sirs,
I noticed that some master data is listed in infoprovider. If someone  can explain me in which cases this master data listed in infoprovider is used for report.
sorry to post this question but I don't find the response in this forum.
Thanks in advance for you help.

    Hi Santo,
    Welcome to the SAP world.
Take your thread data/question data of SDN for example
Master dara here is: User ID ( your user id ) Name, Country etc which can not be changed
Transaction data here is: Number of Views on this thread by other users ( daily increases)
                                         Points given by you etc.
With the help of master data we can easily find out who is this user of this question and his contact details etc.
Post as many threads as you can your master details will not be changed in the SAP SDN.
    Thanks,
    Ram.

  • "Only Values in InfoProvider" - What does it mean ?????????

    Hi BI Gurus,
In the Multiprovider (which consists of only one cube), there is a new record for a particular InfoObject that has been updated recently.
I am able to see that new record in the LISTCUBE under that particular InfoObject.
Now the problem is when I run the existing Query already build for that Multiprovider, this new record cannot be seen in the result under that particular InfoObject.
But when I rightclick on that InfoObject (which is under 'Rows' section)->Restrict->Fixed Values tab---> here the desired new record cannot be seen.
Bue when I click on "Display other Values" pushbutton (bottom left) in the same screen->select the check box "Only values in InfoProvider"->OK
Now I can see the desired record under "Fixed Values" list.
    Now I have two queries:
    1. when I place this desired record in the right Selection area->OK->save--> and run the query, the query doesn't display any data.
    2. Why is it that when I check the check box "Only values in InfoProvider" only I am able to see the desired record? (not able to display that value in the result area though) Doesn't the Query pulls all the data from the InfoProvider eachtime by default?
Any inputs will be very Grateful.
    REMOVED
    Regards,
    Venkat

    Hi Venkat,
When you select values of an info object it searches the values used in the info provider (e.g. cube).
But if a value not is used, you won't find it in the list. But you can also look in the Master data,  Here you see all the values that exist in the info object.
It is depending on your settings in the info object (Tab Business explorer --> Filter value selection) On option is for values when you are building the query, the other is for values when you are executing the query.

  • What is difference between bex analyser and bex browser

what is difference between bex analyser and bex browser . please explain what are use of both and what we do in both.

    hi
    Bex Browser
The Business Explorer Browser (BEx Browser) makes it possible for you to access all document types of the Business Information Warehouse that are assigned to your role or that you have stored in your favorites. You can select and open documents assigned to you in the BEx Browser or store and manage new documents in the BEx Browser.
Document types that you can work with in the BEx Browser are:
    · BW workbooks
    · Documents that are stored in the Business Document Service (BDS)
    · Links (references to file system, shortcuts)
    · Links to internet sites (URLs)
    · SAP transaction calls.
    · Web applications and Web templates
    · Crystal Reports
    Bex Analyser
The Business Explorer Analyzer (BEx Analyzer) is the analysis and reporting tool of the Business Explorer that is embedded in Microsoft Excel.
    Features
You can call up the BEx Query Designer in the BEx Analyzer, in order to define queries. Subsequently, you can analyze the selected InfoProvider data by navigation to the query created in the Query Designer and create different query views of the data. You can add the different query views for a query or for different queries to a work book and save them there. You can save the workbook in your favorites or in your role on the BW Server. You can also save the workbook locally on your computer.
Beyond that, you can precalculate the workbook and distribute it by e-mail to recipeients or you can export it to the Enterprise Portal and make it accessible to other employees in the company.
You can start queries in a standard view (with a Standard Web Template set up in Customizing) in the Web browser and forward the URL or continue to navigate on the Web. Similarly, you can export the Web query to MS Excel 2000.
Overview of the Functional Area of the BEx Analyzer:
    ·        BEx toolbar
You access the functions of the BEx Analyzer from the BEx toolbar, which takes you to the BEx Open dialog box where you can open existing queries, or to the BEx Query Designer where you can create new queries or change existing queries.
    ·        Evaluating Query Data
The BEx Analyzer offers convenient functions for evaluating and presenting InfoProvider data interactively. In the BEx Analyzer, you can add queries to workbooks, navigate within them and refresh the data. You can also process the queries further in Microsoft Excel or display them in the Web browser in a default view.
Navigation of a query allows you, for example, to filter characteristics on a single value, drilldown on all values for a characteristic, regroup characteristics and key figures in the rows and columns of the results area, or hide key figures. Navigation results in different views of the InfoProvider data. In addition, a range of further functions is available which allow you to edit a query interactively (for example, sorting, cumulated output, among others). In addition, you can use the editing functions in Microsoft Excel in order to set up individual format templates, to print results areas, or to create graphics.
    ·        Queries in Workbooks
Queries are inserted into workbooks so you can display them. When you insert a query, a link is made between the cell areas of the worksheet and the data of the InfoProvider upon which the query is based. A link therefore exists between the Business Explorer and the Business Information Warehouse Server (BW Server).
When inserting a query into the workbook, a VBA routine is automatically generated in the workbook. You can also connect the Business Explorer with your own VBA programs (Visual Basic for Applications).
You can create workbook templates, into which you can insert your queries. Workbook templates can contain pre-determined items for the area of the query, formatting settings, logos, VBA macros, and so on.
    ·        Precalculating workbooks
You can precalculate and distribute workbooks with the BEx Broadcaster, which is a Web application you get to form the BEx toolbar. The system generates MS Excel workbooks with historical data. You determine the time for precalculation yourself: You can have workbooks precalculated at a predefined time or they can be precalculated whenever data in the underlying InfoProvider changes. You can have the precalculated workbooks sent by e-mail or you can export them into the Enterprise Portal, where you can make them available to employees within your company.
    Activities
To start the BEx Analyzer, choose Start ® Programs ® SAP Front-end Business Information Warehouse ® SAP Business Explorer Analyzer.
You can also access the BEx Analyzer via SAP Easy Access ® SAP Business Information Warehouse ® SAP Menu ® Business Explorer ® Analyzer or in the Business Explorer Browser using the Business Explorer Analyzer symbol in the menu bar.
Hope this will solve your issu

  • Create ABAP Report  for  Infoprovider

Could anyone tell me Function module to fetch Infoprovider(s) for creating ABAP report on.
    The report should provide:
    Input:
    - Infoprovider(s)
    - Date-range: default: last 6 months
    Output:
    - data which is shown in the requests tab as described before, preceeded with the name of the infoprovider and having the possibility to download to Excel.

    Hi,
you can easily use it as a template to create your own program. The program just shows what to do and how you need to populate the tables in order to pass selection parameters to the fm to get the required data back.

  • How to create Virtual InfoProvider with Services - Virtual Characteristic

    Hi all,
I need to create a virtual infoprovider that also fills a virtual characteristic in order to display custom characteristics and calculated values based on user selection.
Basicaly what I want to do is send a variable in a virtual characteristic equal to the values I want to fill in the characteristic.  So for instance if my base cube contains the infoobjects Brand, Product Line, Region and Country I want a  have a new infoobject that has no data, but fills itself with the vales of the infoobject I specify at query time on the virtual cube.
The reason for this is I am trying to create a WAD using the delta chart (waterfall graph) that will show the difference between the plan and actual totals for a specific characteristic in Profitibility analysis.
I have a document that explains the situation.  Send me your mail address and I will send you the document.
    Kind Regards

We found a way to build the structure for this.

  • What is DTP in BI 7

    Hi Experts,
Can anyone tell me what is DTP and what is the purpose of DTP in BI 7 ?
    Regards
    Venkata Devaraj

    DTP:
The dataflow in 7.0 is so, first you need to get data to PSA with a infopack and from there you need to use DTP to load from PSA to the dataprovider(ODS). and other DTP to load to further infoprovider(cube).
DTP is it like transferring data either from InfoObject or Infocube to another infoobject or infocube?
NO, DTP is scheduling data from PSA to infoprovider/s. you would need to use infopack to load data from Sourcesystem to PSA.
Transformations are just like transfer/update rules in 3.x. its just the mapping you do between the source fields and target fields. And DTP to load the data according to the mapping into the infoprovider.
    Purpose:
You use the data transfer process (DTP) to transfer data within BI from one persistent object to another object, in accordance with certain transformations and filters. In this respect, it replaces the data mart interface and the InfoPackage. As of SAP NetWeaver 7.0, the InfoPackage only loads data to the entry layer of BI (PSA).
The data transfer process makes the transfer processes in the data warehousing layer more transparent. Optimized parallel processing improves the performance of the transfer process (the data transfer process determines the processing mode). You can use the data transfer process to separate delta processes for different targets and you can use filter options between the persistent objects on various levels. For example, you can use filters between a DataStore object and an InfoCube.
Data transfer processes are used for standard data transfer, for real-time data acquisition, and for accessing data directly.

  • What is new?

    Hallo,
What is new in 2004s BEx broadcaster??
Major differences between old BEx and 2004s BEx.

    Hi  Werner
Earlier in Bw3.5 Information Broadcaster was called as REPORTING AGENT which is a transaction in SAPLOGON.No seperate tool was there in BW 3.5.
Now in BI 7.0 thisis a part of seperate tool which is a  Administration function of DWWB.
This is a tool that will be having webanalyser,Universal work list,Bexportfolio,
My portfolio, "INFORMATION BROADCASTER" whjich is used for sending reports generated by you through portal.we can schedule this broadcaster at diff time points,If any change is there in infoprovider,or can send immedietly.
The another special function is there for this we can have feedback, ratings for our
report, documents which are send through new 2004s broadcaster

  • What is happening in Database?

    Hi All,
I am new to SAP BW. Technically I am very much confused about the Info Object , Info Cube, Info Provider, PSA, DSO. I want to know Physically what is happening in the database after creation of above things. Kindly let me know some reference videos or books or any links. Thanks for your support in advance.
    Thanks & Regards
    Shiva

    Hi,
BW - Business Information Warehouse. This is the place where we store lots of information in database and provide the consolidated and cleansed data to the queries in the form of information when reporting.
so during all these process we come across the mentioned objects to fullfil the thing.
InfoObject : Infoboject is the smallest available information in sap bw.i.e..the information (name, amount, country)can be stored in database in the form of Infoobjects. These are place holders to store such information in database. These Infoobjects are mainly classified into Keyfigures,Characterstics.apart from these we have like time characterstics to store time etc...
Infocube : Normally the data can be presented for reporting in many dimensions(like customer, material, region, time etc..)using this infocube.Infocube is structured in such a way...data can be stored in the form of multidimentional star schema in the database.that means the database can be used to store data in most efficient way using this star shema.whole this structure is called as infocube in sap bw.
InfoProvider : these are nothing but either Infocubes or DSOs or multiproviders etc..this is term used to mention when this infocube or DSO provides data for reporting.
PSA : Persistent Storage Area : normally we can bring data into BW from different sources.what ever may be the source after data entered into bw,it will be stored here temporarily.from here the data can be moved to infoproviders(DSO,Infocube etc...).The main purpose of storing data in PSA is,here the data will be stored exactly in the way how it is provided in source system.here we can modify data (if necessary) before transferring into Infoproviders.
DSO (Data Sotre Object) or ODS (Operational Data Store) : This is also another object where we store cleansed and consolidated data in detailed form.this is two dimensional tabular structure.the data is stored in this way in the data base.
and as you are new to sap bw..you have to go bit long way to understand exactly how to deal with each of these objects in real time.please go thorugh the URL...

hope this is clear for you.

  • Issue with Query on a virtual infoprovider

    Hello,
I am getting the following error message while executing a query on a virtual infoprovider. We have recently gone through upgrade from BI 3.5 to BI 7.0 EHP1 (SP5) and from SEM BCS 4.0 to BCS 6.0.
EVersion not specified or not unique                                                             UCR0                006
EError reading the data of InfoProvider ZBCS_CV11                                    DBMAN             305ZBCS_CV11
EError while reading data; navigation is possible                                          BRAIN               289
    I>> Row: 11 Inc: RAISE_READ_ERROR Prog: CL_RSDRV_VPROV_BASE   RS_EXCEPTION        301CL_RSDRV_VPROV_BASE
this query has been running fine before the upgrade. In the selection screen there are two fields - version1 and version2, if I am specifying same value in both the fields then the query runs fine and if I am providing different values then the above stated error message appears.
I have tried different settings with properties - Read mode: H,A,X and also different combination from the properties of the virtual infoprovider - with and w/o hierarchies; with and w/o navigation attributes but it did not workout.
the only thing which has changed on this virtual provider is that I had enabled delta caching as this was supposed to be used in a multiprovider.
Has anyone experienced similar issue or have an idea as to what is going wrong here. Please advice.
    Regards,
    Manish

    Hi Manish,
I have exactly the same issue with a query on a virtual infoprovider after upgrading from BI 3.5 to BI 7.0 EHP1 (SP5) and from SEM BCS 4.0 to BCS 6.0.
Would you be so kind to tell me how you fixed this. (other queries seem to be working)
    Kind regards,
    Jamie Flaxman
