What is java.util.stack?

Hi there,
I am new to this so please excuse my knowledge of java.
I want to know what is Java.util.stack?
What is base class for that?
And adventage and disadvantage?
Please..
thanks,,

  • Creating toString() for java.util.Stack

    When I create a Stack it prints out
    [0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 20]
    How can I printout only the values.
    I tried using the charAt() and loops, but with no success.
    Please help.

    The toString() method in java.util.Stack comes from the toString() method in Vector, which just calls super.toString(), which goes to AbstractList and then AbstractCollection, and eventually has this code:
        public String toString() {
         StringBuffer buf = new StringBuffer();
         buf.append("[");
            Iterator i = iterator();
            boolean hasNext = i.hasNext();
            while (hasNext) {
                Object o = i.next();
                buf.append(o == this ? "(this Collection)" : String.valueOf(o));
                hasNext = i.hasNext();
                if (hasNext)
                    buf.append(", ");
         buf.append("]");
         return buf.toString();
        }If you want to print stuff out in a different format, just create a new class that extends stack, write a new toString() method that suits your needs, and instead of making a Stack, just instantiate objects using this new class.
    If you give me an idea of how you want this to look rather than what it's printing out now, I'll give it a shot at writing it.

  • WS endpoints restricition: What about java.util.Locale etc.?

    We have some problems with the restrictions for WS endpoints.
    Using SAPNW Developer Studio to create a web service including the virtual interface from a stateful session bean, we are not allowed to use usual types like java.util.Locale or java.util.Properties although they are serializable.
    This is also decribed in the SAPNW DS Help:
    "The following types are not allowed anywhere in the endpoint of a Web service:
    ·        Remote objects (EJBs)
    ·        Classes extending into another class and implementing an interface
    ·        Hashed table-like types
    ·        Classes/objects that cannot be serialized"
    So what is the preferred solution for this issue?
    Is there a way to use the serializable java.util.Locale type in a WS endpoint, or do we have to use its String representation?
    What is the preferred solution for hash-table types like Properties? And what about Interface types like Map?
    Maybe we just do not find the decisive documentation link?
    Thanks a lot,
    Dirk

    I'm using a java stack in a class that places a user defined Object into the stack. I have overriden the toString method for my Object, named ParserStackNode, but when I print out the stack i get ParserStack follewed by an address, ie @69b32. Any ideas?

    I needed to use toString because I only wante dto print it out for an assignment. Any way, I figured it out. I had to call the stacks toString and return it.

  • What are the pros and cons of installing java+abap stack for portal?

    Hi all,
      1.What are the pros and cons of installing java+abap stack for portal?
      2.what effect it does on the ume options to be choosen??
      3.for the purpose of integration of r3,bw and crm on portal and crm 4.0 60.2.3 business package which option of stack(java or abap or both)will be good option and which ume option while installation should be choosen?
    regards
    Rajendra

    Hi Rajendra,
    The NetWeaver Installation Master Guide offers some good scenarios on the pros and cons:
    https://websmp201.sapag.de/~sapidb/011000358700005412792005E.pdf
    In a nutshell:
    ABAP+JAVA
    Pros
    - Decrease # of servers required to administer the portal
    - Less costly
    Cons
    - Upgrades could be dependent on ABAP and Java release level
    - Additional load on the server due to ABAP stack
    - Limited scalability
    JAVA and ABAP on separate server
    Pros
    - Improved performance
    - Allows each system to be single-use purpose therefore downtime does not affect other components
    - More scalable
    Cons
    - Adds complexity to landscape
    - Additional costs

    I've created my own dictionary with dateToSQL() method overridden.
    Now it works fine. But it's a kind of strange. Oracle is used often and my
    JDBC drivers
    are the most recent (at least, from the oracle.com).
    Anyway, thank you again.

    Patric,
    Thank you for response.
    We're using Oracle 8.1.7 via OCI driver from Oracle 9.2.
    I've already tried 2.4.0 and it works fine there but I've found another
    problem there
    preventing me from using it. See my post in solarmetric.kodo.betanewsgroup.

    That's odd -- what version of Oracle are you using?
    Moving to Kodo JDO 2.4.0
    (http://www.solarmetric.com/Software/beta/2.4.0) will almost certainly
    get rid of this problem, as we use exclusively prepared statements in
    it, and therefore pass dates etc. to JDBC as parameters.
    But, to get things working with your Oracle database and Kodo JDO 2.3,
    you could create your own extension of OracleDictionary and override the
    dateToSQL() method to generate the appropriate TO_DATE() syntax. See our
    documentation for more details on creating custom database dictionaries.

    How do you get System date onto a Date variable?Calendar.getInstance().getTime() returns a java.util.Date for the current time. You can also use System.currentTimeMillis() and turn it into a Date.
    Will date.after(Date when) method work when Date
    variables are in milisecs?Date.after(Date when) compares two date objects. As the JavaDoc says "Returns:
    true if and only if the instant represented by this Date object is strictly later than the instant represented by when" To me that says that milliseconds are taken into account, I.E. comparing dates actually compares the date plus the time portion.
    >
    What methods-
    *Convert a date(dd/mm/yy) to milisec?If you look in the javaDoc you'll see "long getTime() Returns the number of milliseconds since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 GMT represented by this Date object." Calendar also has the getTimeInMillis() method.
    *Convert a milisec value to a date(dd/mm/yy)?Calendar.setTimeInMillis(long);
    I'm have this little problem.
    When using GregorianCalander-
    *need to initialize?
    *need set today's date?Calendar.getInstance() will return an appropriate Calendar object for the current locale initialized to the current date/time.
    *how do you check if a date exceeds 3 weeks?I'm not sure what you mean. There are a couple of roll(...) methods that will allow you to add a unit of time to a date. I.E. you could add three weeks to a date.
    To ignore the time portion of a date just set the time to "00:00"

    Cause it seems like I can't do the following:
    for(int i = 0; i < extracted_files.size(); i++){
                extracted_files.get(i) = null;
    }Or should I use this one:
    files.clear()What is the proper and best way to do this in order to avoid memory leaks? How about normal Arrays like File[]?

    But what if the List is a class variable running in a Web Service for like months without terminating?You mean if the List variable is a member variable of a long-lived object? Then presumably the list needs to live as long as the object does. In the unlikely scenario that the object needs to live on but its list member variable does not, then yes, setting the member to null will be needed to make the list eligible for GC. But I highly doubt this is your situation, and if it is, you probably have a design flaw.
    And if the list is referenced only by a local variable, then, as I already said, when the method ends, the variable goes out of scope, and the List is eligible for GC.
    Now, a slightly different situation is when the List needs to live a long time, and at some point during its life, you're done using some object that it refers to. In that situation, simply remove the element from the list (or set the element to null if it's an array rather than a list), and then if it's not referenced anywhere else, it can be GCed.
    How about Arrays like File[]? Do I need to iterate through the array and null all the objects or is it enough to just null the Array?YOU. DON'T. NEED. TO. HELP. GC. You don't need to set the elements to null, and you most likely don't even need to set the array variable to null.
    Also note that only references can be null, not objects.

  • Can java.util.logging.SimpleFormatter log stack trace?

    can java.util.logging.SimpleFormatter log stack trace? I hope I don't have to write a custom formatter.
    -yc

    right, it does, the code I am modifying prints regular log msg at LEVEL.SEVERE, that's why it doesn't have any stack trace.
    By the way, I am using file name pattern, aName.log%g, why it the most current log is aName.log.0, rather than just aName.log. In the conf file, I have,
    mypackage.myclass.logfile.name=/.../aName.log.%g
    java.util.logging.FileHandler.limit=60000
    java.util.logging.FileHandler.count=3
    java.util.logging.FileHandler.formatter=java.util.logging.SimpleFormatter

    Hi Shawn,
    Please refer the below thing i found. Hope this may help you in moving forward in resolving. I hope this issue has occured when you are deploying your application WAR.
    ======================================================================================
    Method: read()
    Class: at java.util.zip.InflaterInputStream.read(InflaterInputStream.java:147)
    The above class comes in your exception hierarchy above.
    Reads uncompressed data into an array of bytes. This method will block until some input can be decompressed.
    Throws:
    ZipException - if a ZIP format error has occurred
    ====================================
    This also points that your WAR file is corrupt.
    Class: GZIPInputStream
    IOException - if an I/O error has occurred or the compressed input data is corrupt
    Thanks,

  • Java.util.zip.ZipException error in opening zip file

    Hello all,
    We are using Sun Java System web server 6.1 SP2. When I tried to deploy an application, I received this message: "Posted content length of --- exceeds limit of --- " the -dashes are the size of the file actually.
    I then added an init-param to the web.xml specifying the maximum size.
    After doing that, I tried to deploy the war file using administration interface, but received a network tcp/ip error. I then deployed it using command line wdeploy command. It worked but the web server won't start up after the deployment. The following error messages are found in the log file. Any thoughts as to whats wrong here? Is there a bug in SP2?

    ooks like you are running into bug: 4719677
    When you deploy a web application using the Administration Server from a
    remote machine, the maximum upload size by default is 10 MB. This can be
    changed by editing the
    install-root/bin/https/webapps/instance-app/WEB-INF/web.xml file. In the
    servlet webappdeploy, insert an init param named maxUploadSize with a
    value in bytes specifying the maximum upload size. Example:
    <init-param>
    <param-name>maxUploadSize</param-name>
    <param-value>90000000</param-value>
    </init-param>

  • Re: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.util.PropertyPermission weblogic.kernel.allowQueueThrottling read)

    This looks like it might be a bug in 6.1SP5,
              weblogic/kernel/Kernel.java at line 85.
              It's trying to do the right thing to ignore an exception if in
              an applet but it's ignoring the wrong exception
              (SecurityException, when it looks like the stack
              trace is throwing a java.security.AccessControlException).
              If you need a fix, this would need to go through support
              and be filed as a problem with WLS Core.

    I suggest going through customer support, I don't know what
              the resolution was. You might also try the security newsgroup,
              as no JMS code has been called by the application yet at
              the point the exception is thrown.

  • Multi-locale support in java.util.logging?

    Can I use log (or logrb) methods in the java.util.logging API to localize my messages to a locale other than the default locale? From what I see in the jdk doc & src, it seems like this is not possible. This kind of multi-locale localization support is essential for server applications that talk to clients from different locales.

    Well, I've never done localization. In case you haven't seen it, here's some documentation from Logger, but that's all I can offer.
    Each Logger may have a ResourceBundle name associated with it. The named bundle will be used for localizing logging messages. If a Logger does not have its own ResourceBundle name, then it will inherit the ResourceBundle name from its parent, recursively up the tree.
    Most of the logger output methods take a "msg" argument. This msg argument may be either a raw value or a localization key. During formatting, if the logger has (or inherits) a localization ResourceBundle and if the ResourceBundle has a mapping for the msg string, then the msg string is replaced by the localized value. Otherwise the original msg string is used. Typically, formatters use java.text.MessageFormat style formatting to format parameters, so for example a format string "{0} {1}" would format two parameters as strings.
    When mapping ResourceBundle names to ResourceBundles, the Logger will first try to use the Thread's ContextClassLoader. If that is null it will try the SystemClassLoader instead. As a temporary transition feature in the initial implementation, if the Logger is unable to locate a ResourceBundle from the ContextClassLoader or SystemClassLoader the Logger will also search up the class stack and use successive calling ClassLoaders to try to locate a ResourceBundle. (This call stack search is to allow containers to transition to using ContextClassLoaders and is likely to be removed in future versions.)
    Formatting (including localization) is the responsibility of the output Handler, which will typically call a Formatter.
