What is the best hard drive configuration for disk/media cache?

I just installed a 480 GB PCI SSD for my boot drive. I also have a 240 GB SSD and a 1TB 7200 rpm hd. Can anyone suggest on which drives to place my source files, aep files, media and disk cache and output for the best read/write speed? Thanks for any advice. Same question for Premiere Pro too, if you know!
I'm using a Mac Pro dual proc, 12 core, 40 GB.

  • What is the best hard drive cleaner for mac book pro

I am wanting to clean up my hard drive , any suggestions as to what is the best product for this . I read reviews about ccleaner , which is in the app store but there was some really scary stories ... any suggestions .Thanks

AppStore software has restrictions on what it can do.
If you don't like CCleaner for OS X downloaded from their site (not AppStore), then OnyX for OS X at MacUpdate.com has been a long time favorite to clean the caches, log files and what not for privacy and troubleshooting corrupted caches. Followed by a reboot.
Then a Disk Utility > Erase Free Space with Zero is recommended afterwards to scrub deleted files off the hard drive if that level of privacy cleaning is necessary as deleted files remain on hard drives until overwritten.
If your having performance problems with your computer then look at this for solutions
    Why is my computer slow?
If your selling the machine or have to clean it for security reasons
How do I securely delete data from the machine?

And now i'ld like to invest Hard Drive Camcorder for my FCP editing base,Is it a Good Media Format?
If yes,Which Prosumer or Semi-Pro Camcorder will you recommend?Really need your helps, maybe you are the one who are currently using it and feel happy with over all?!

Thanks for tip David. I work at a middle school, we shoot a lot of district functions with three cameras then use the multiclip function of FCP. If I bought three of these cameras do you think they will work well in that environment? here is our workflow:
    1. Sync cameras with a clapper at the start of show.
    2. Import into FCP
    3. Mark inpoint at the sound of the clapper
    4. Create the multiclip sequence and edit
We have done 50 or so shows like this with 14 year olds as the editors and the results are very nice. I would like to move to the hard drive based camera. Being in education we are on a tight budget. Think three of these camerass would work in this environment?
Thanks so much for your expert advice.

Same experience here! They keep the price about the same but you get double the storage, so the price of storage has been going down big time! But now I find myself ******* after Drobo Hey, that editor whacked me for "l u s t i n g" that isn't foul language is it?

  • What's the best hard drive I can put in my mac book 6,1?

What's the best hard drive I can put in my mac book 6,1? Is there a solid state hard drive available? I've been through two hard drives in the last 3 years, which i primarily blaim on how much I have to move my computer around at work while the drive is spinning.

Yes there is and SSD for your Mac.  I just ordered an SSD for a MacBook 6,1 from OWC.  http://www.macsales.com/
    Also check Crucial and Kingston.
I ordered the DIY Upgrade Bundle: Mercury Electa 3G SSD.
That MacBook is only capable of 3 GB/s so the 6G SSDs are overkill.
I recently upgraded the memory from 2 GB to 8 GB.  It cut the boot time by a factor of three.  That is only a $100 upgrade.

  • What is the Best Hard Drive for a Powerbook Pismo 200 and best size for sto

I have a Power book G3 Pismo 2000 which came with a 10 GB Hard Drive. It is almost full and I want to upgrade the Hard drive to a bigger and I do not know the best hard drive and what is the maximum space I will need? Can you recommend size and Manufacture?

I bought a 80GB Toshiba for my Pismo. It seems to work well. I believe the largest drive that will be fully recognized is a 120GB drive.
Here's a good place to see your options. Go to this web page at OWC and get a listing of your upgrade options for your Mac model.

You can get the product models and specs, and shop around, but OWC has pretty good prices.

  • Which is the optimal hard drive configuration for Logic Pro ?

    hello people
i would like to ask your advices about possible hard drive configurations for Logic Pro
    I have a Mac Pro and thinking to buy 4 x 500GB drives .
there are several combinations in my mind to configure , but first of all i would like to ask which is the best for an optimal system for Logic Pro
    model 1 :
    1 stripe Raid 0 array drive for ''System'' (500+500 = 1000)
    1 stripe Raid 0 array drive for ''recording + sound banks'' (500 + 500 = 1000)
which means to using 4 hard drives as 2 drives
    model 2 :
    1 stripe Raid 0 array drive for ''System'' (500+500 = 1000)
1 Single drive for Sound banks (500)
1 Single drive for Recording (500)
which means to using 4 hard drives as 3 drives
Or , it is more healthy to use the drives as single , without raid , stripe sets but with its own capacity instead of combining .
and also if someone has an idea regarding to compare of Seagate and Westerndigital drives (which is the best for audio recording) , would be really helpfull
I am kinda rookie for these subjects :/
    thanks in advance

    heelo blayzay
thanks for the reply and assistance.
    1) how can i create a back up set for the 4th HD to be make back up of the 2nd and 3rd HD
    2) what about to make 1st HD for system and 2nd3rd4th (1.5TB) for audio recording, and an external drive for backups ?
For the back ups , is there a special process for the backing up HD (internal or external) ? Or should i just need a Clone software to make the back up
    thank you again.

  • What is the maximum hard drive size for Imac 8,2, what is the maximum hard drive size for Imac 8,2

Am wondering what is the maximum hard drive one can put into this computer. I think it's a 3TB but I read somewhere the drive needs a jumper to bring it back to 3mb level cache. Can anyone confirm these details please? I currently have a 320GB drive installed.

    Hi Robbie,
I found no iMac 8,2, do you mean iMac 8,1 ???
There is no practical limit to the size, the biggest ones made will work fine... assuming the all important SATA 3 Gb/s speed, WD drives use a jumper on pins 5&6 to slow it from 6 Gb/s to 3 Gb/s.
    Some drives do it automatically...

And some do not step down properly at all.

  • What is the best hard drive to iMac!

    Hi,
I would like to replace the hard drive on my iMac (2008 mid), because the S.M.A.R.T status: Failed!
Current hard drive: WDC WD2500AAJS-40VWA1 (Caviar Se 250GB)
Iwould like to replace a larger, faster, quieter hard drive (500Gb, 750GB, or 1TB).
What is the best choice for now?
    Many thanks,

Beginning in 2009 Apple began using hard disks with integrated fan sensors, this means  you should replace with drives that offer that. I'd recommend contacting OWC  (www.macsales.com) and asking what drives they recommend. Either that or visit a local AASP and get their recommendations.

  • What is the maximum hard drive height for installing two hard drives in the 2011 Mac Mini

In a few months I'll be buying a Mac Mini. I want to upgrade the stock hard drive with a Seagate Momentus XT Solid state Hybrid Drive(720 RPM), which is 9.5 mm tall.
I would like to add a second hard drive, a Seagate Constellation(7200 RPM), which has a "15mm z-height".
I want to use those hard drives so I can have a speedy Mac Mini, but also have a great amount of storage(1.75 terabytes). My largest priority is storage space, but I also would like to use 7200 RPM hard drives as speed is also a priority.
I would like to know if those two hard drives would both fit in the 2011 Mac Mini.
And also, what does "Z-height" mean in regards to hard drives?

9.5mm is the standard 2.5" drive height. This thread says one 15mm drive may fit, but recommends against a Seagate Constellation drive, due to the amount of power it draws.
One option would be to add an external mini-stack, then storage space becomes a secondary concern. If you want speed, install an SSD for the operating system then put everything else on secondary storage.

  • What is currently the best hard drive upgrade for 2009 white mac book? (within reason! ;-) ) looking at Seagate momentus 7200 320gb and momentus XT

hello people of the Apple community.
There seems to be a lot of threads regarding some similar issues. Some of the questions seem a few years old so I thought I'd post a new thread. I have a white 2009 macbook and I need to upgrade the hard drive to I think 320gb - cant afford any more. Im looking for a good 320gb fast-ish drive.
A few questions arise as Im not 100% clued up with the terminology
    1) Is sata 300 of any benefit? how do i check what mine currently uses?
    2) Cache size and spindle speed: is 16mb the standard? and does 7200rpm drain the battery quicker? what do most people go for?
    3) Pleeeese someone recommend something good! The more you look the more numbers and options come available!
Im looking at the Seagate momentus range .. Is the XT range of any benefit on my machine?
    Thanks, Jeremy

If I may, it seems uneconomical to spend any amount of $$ to upgrade a "long in the tooth" Macbook. Instead, why not a huge (say 1 TB) external drive for $100.00? And move some of the files from the internal to the external. It will require some "house keeping" to decide what files go where, but this could free up a lot space on the internal, and therefore boost performance as well. And when the long in the tooth finally dies, you will still have the external.
