What is the definition of cookies, cache, and local storage?
Hello all, my first post but I've been Mac'd for about two years now.
My question is, how do cookies, cache, and local storage function, and other than where they're stored, what makes them different.
Thanks Sig, actualy I brushed up on the definitions prior to posting the question. Was hoping for more of a dialog on the subject as it seems there is some confusion. At least my conversasion with Support would suggest. So I'm curious what other members of the Apple community have to say.
Local Storage are flash cookies yet I was told not to be concerned as I am blocking cookies just fine. So are we talking hot dogs or franks?...

What is the best way to do permanent local storage of small bits of data on mobile?
My app has a consumable item for purchase. Once purchased, it is consumed immediately, and the item's location is then permanently stored in the app.
What is the best way to achieve this? Should I use something like SharedObject, or do the contents of those get cleared when the app version updates?
Thanks for any help or ideas. In my app I use a SharedObject to store some informations and when I deploy a new version on my Ipad to test it the SharedObject is cleared
I my case I have a large amount of data (let's say between 400MB and 2GB of media files) that the user can download in the app and I store it in a folder in File.documentsDirectory but each time I deploy my app on iOS the folder is deleted and I have to download everything again. I suppose that it will be the same when I publish app updates on the AppStore. What should I do to keep the file between updates ?
It's not a problem if the files are cleared when the system needs space, but if it's cleared when the app is updated it's quite annoying
Thanks in advance -
What is the diffrence between cookies and cache, is it safe to remove cache?
what is the difference between cookies and cache , is it safe to remove cache ? . I had cleaned cookies many times but I have not removed cache , does it goes on increasing day by day ? please let me know
Cookies are small files that contain information useful to a web site -- such as password, preferences, last date visited, etc. You may remove the cookies that you don't want adn since some of them are a privacy issue, many people remove them all.
Cache is just a collection of data downloaded to help display a web page. After you leave a site, much of the cache is left on your computer and is no longer needed. You can always remove the cache because it will be replaced as needed. -

Hi all,
I'm trying to "clean out" my iTunes library by deleting songs I never listen to, and maybe organizing playlists of songs I listen to more often than others. I don't know the technical/offical terms, but there is the "toolbar" that shows artist/track/album/length etc., with options to add or remove categories such as plays/skips/genre and so on... My QUESTION is: What is the definition of a "play" or a "skip?" That is, are they tallied according to how many seconds a track is played before skipping (or continuing)? If anyone can answer this, that would be awesome!
PS. Secondary question: if the plays/skips are determined by a specific time limit, is there a way to change that time? For example, if a skip is defined by clicking "next" before the track has reached 0:05 seconds, can I change that number to 0:03 or 0:10?
Thanks so much!
--BobbyI agree Luciu, I want to see the official docs for this too anyone know where they are?
My understanding is that anytime you press skip *on your ipod* (not in iTunes while playing). This would appear to disadvantage songs with very long slow outros - as you might want to skip these to get to the next song. This would mean songs with long slow or hidden track outros would accrue additional skip counts.
Perhaps Apple could ignore skips that are within 20 or 30 seconds of the ending to avoid that but yeah some docs would be nice to see.
I use smart playlists to create playlists that do not contain any songs that have been skipped in the past 12 months. That suggests a timestamp is logged with each skip also. -

What is the '._v1_.swf' cookie and why can't I remove it?
The '._v1_.swf' cookie is placed by Adobe Flash. When you delete the cookie Flash promptly puts it back. If you uninstall Flash ( https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html ), the cookie will go away.

Hello,
I have a 2009 Mac Pro 4.1
Mac OSX version 10.6.8
Processor - 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Memory - 24GB
Graphics Card - ATI Radeon HD 4870
I use After Effects and Premiere Pro daily for my work. I am not too technically minded. I want to update and improve my machine as much as possible and am thinking of buying an SSD drive to replace my current start up disk. I also am thinking about getting the GTX 680 mac version graphics card. I have read many online discussions regarding OpenCL and CUDA, many discussions with mixed feelings about the improvements the 680 gives an older Mac Pro - some people say it is amazing others say the improvements seem minimal or worse.
What I want to know is if I purchase the SSD and 680 graphics card what is the optimal OSX - 10.8 or 10.9? and what is the optimal versions of AE and PP to have - CS6 or CC? Also what settings and what additional drivers would I need to consider?
I contacted an independent authorised mac reseller and he thought it was a bad idea to put a new graphics card and get the latest OSX in an old machine and tried to sell me a used 2010 Mac Pro, but I think it would be more cost effective to get the SSD and 680 instead, it's just I read the occasional horror story on a forum and I worry about making the wrong choice, I rely on my Mac Pro to make a living!
Thanks in advanceThank you for the valuable information Eric, I think I will go with the 680 but I understand that it wont be fully utilised on my old Mac Pro.
Perhaps I will replace my startup/applications hard drive with a 480GB SSD. My other 3 bays are full with 3 x 2TB Hard drives that have media on them so I have no spare room for a dedicated SSD drive for AE cache. But could I put a 250GB SSD into one of the PCI-E slots using something like - SSD SuperSpeed Upgrade Kit for Apple Mac Pro 2008 2009 2010 2012 | eBay
Would this be my best solution? Is it a relatively simple installation, does anyone have any experience of a similar setup?
cc_merchant, thank you for the reply, I am aware you have to pay monthly payments for CC, that is no problem. -

What is the diffreence between call transaction and session method
hi gurus
can any one suggest me
what is the difference between call transaction and session methods
in which cases we have to use teh call transaction and
in which cases we have to use session method.
thank you
regards
kals.CLASSICAL BATCH INPUT (Session Method)
CALL TRANSACTION
BATCH INPUT METHOD:
This method is also called as ‘CLASSICAL METHOD’.
Features:
Asynchronous processing.
Synchronous Processing in database update.
Transfer data for more than one transaction.
Batch input processing log will be generated.
During processing, no transaction is started until the previous transaction has been written to the database.
CALL TRANSACTION METHOD :
This is another method to transfer data from the legacy system.
Features:
Synchronous processing. The system performs a database commit immediately before and after the CALL TRANSACTION USING statement.
Updating the database can be either synchronous or asynchronous. The program specifies the update type.
Transfer data for a single transaction.
Transfers data for a sequence of dialog screens.
No batch input processing log is generated.
http://www.sap-img.com/abap/difference-between-batch-input-and-call-transaction-in-bdc.htm
Among the two methods call transaction is better compared to session bcoz data transfer is faster in it.
Differences between call transaction and session.
Session Method:
1) Data is not updated in the database table until the session is processed.
2) No sy-subrc is returned.
3) Error log is created for error records.
4) Updation is always synchronous.
Call Transaction Method:
1) Immediate updation in the database table.
2) sy-subrc is returned.
3)Error need to be handled explicitly.
4) updation can be synchronous as well as asynchronous.
2) ya u can use using the N mode no screen.
3)u can't handle multiple transaction in call transaction.
4) u can handle multiple transaction in session using the BDC_INSERT fm.
5)When u go to SM35 u can able to see the error records.
Which is best?
That depends on your requirement. Both of them have there advantages.
According to the situation u can choose any one of these.
difference between batch input and call transaction in BDC Session method.
1) synchronous processing.
2) can tranfer large amount of data.
3) processing is slower.
4) error log is created
5) data is not updated until session is processed.
Call transaction.
1) asynchronous processing
2) can transfer small amount of data
3) processing is faster.
4) errors need to be handled explicitly
5) data is updated automatically
For session method, these are the function modules to b used.
BDC_OPEN_GROUP
BDC_INSERT
BDC_CLOSE_GROUP
For call transaction, this is the syntax.
CALL TRANSACTION TCODE USING BDCDATA
MODE A or E or N
UPDATE A or S
MESSAGES INTO MESSTAB.
Take a scenario where we need to post documents in FB01 and the input file has say 2000 records (2000 documents, not line items in FB01 but 2000 records)
In the BDC call transaction method
We call the transaction FB01 2000 times (once for each record posting) and if the processing fails in record no 3 it can be captured and start with reocord 4.
Eg: Loop at itab.
call transaction FB01
capture errors
endloop.
In the session method.
We do not explicity call the transaction 2000 times, but all the records are appeneded into a session and this session is stored. The processinf of the session is done wwhenever the user wants it to be done. Hence the errors cannot be captured in the program itself

http://www.sap-img.com/abap/question-about-bdc-program.htm
http://www.itcserver.com/blog/2006/06/30/batch-input-vs-call-transaction/
http://www.planetsap.com/bdc_main_page.htm
Batch Input Session method is asynchronous as told by others here. But the advantage of this is that you have all the error messages and the data for each transaction held persistantly. You don't have to code anything for processing them or writing the logs.
But at the same time, the same feature can be disadvantageous if you need to react to an error or if there are too many errors to manually correct in a session. Since the session are created in the program and its execution is done seperately, you loose the trackability of such transactions.
With a call transaction, what was a disadvantage above will become an advantage. Call transaction immediately gives you messages back and you can react to it in your program. But the disadvantage is that, if you have several hundreds of transactions to run, running them from within the program can be resource crunching affair. It will hamper the system performance and you cannot really distribute the load. Of course, you have some mechanisms with which you can overcome this, but you will have to code for it. Also, storing the messages and storing the errored transaction data etc will have to be handled by you in the program. Whereas, in batch input session, your program's job is to just create the session, after that everything is standard SAP system's responsibility.
Ideally, you should do a call transaction if the resources are not a problem and if it fails, put the errored transaction into a session.
You can decide based on the data volume that your BDC is processing. If data volume is high go for session else call transaction will do.The call transaction updates will be instantaneous where as session needs to be processed explictly after creation.
Session Method
1) Session method supports both small amount of data aswell as large amount of data
2) data processing is asynchronus and data updation is synchronus.
3) it process multiple apllication while perfomaning validations.
4) in session method data will be updated in data base only after processing session only.
5) system provide by default logfile for handling error records.
6) it supports both foreground aswell as background process
in bdc we use FM ...
bdc_open_group " for creating Session
bdc_insert " adding transaction and bdcdata table for updating database
bdc_close_group " for closing Session
Call Transaction
1) Call transaction exclusively for small amout of data
2) it supports only one apllication while perfoming validations
3) there is no default logfile, We can explicitly provide logic for creating logfile for handling error records.
we can create logfile by using structure....BDCMSGCOLL
4) it doesn't support background processing.
5) data processing is synchronous and Data updation is Synchronous( default), in
this method also supports daya updation in asynchronus process also.
syntax:
Call transaction <transaction-name> using BDCDATA
mode <A/N/E>
update <L/A/S>
messages into BDCMSGCOLL.
BDC:
Batch Data Communication (BDC) is the process of transferring data from one SAP System to another SAP system or from a non-SAP system to SAP System.
Features :
BDC is an automatic procedure.
This method is used to transfer large amount of data that is available in electronic medium.
BDC can be used primarily when installing the SAP system and when transferring data from a legacy system (external system).
BDC uses normal transaction codes to transfer data.
Types of BDC :
CLASSICAL BATCH INPUT (Session Method)

What is the definition of TREX
Hi,
What is the definition of TREX?
Regards,
Sri.Hi,
The meaning of TREX is Search and Classification.
TREX is a search engine used for searching the KM documents in a classified way.
You can use taxonimies(query based or example based) for classifying the documents.
TREx needs to be configured before using the search functionality.

What's the definitive answer ?
I have a question which I'm sure has been asked but I cant seem to find it. I have 12" PB G4, 1.5GHz. I have order iLife 08 but in reading the discussion boards I'm not sure it will work. Some say it will ,other say there is a work around for imovie. others say return
So, here's the questions:
Will imovie be the only issue?
If so, Can I still use imovie 06?
Should I just return it ?
What's the definitive answer ?
ThanksSounds like you've seen a few posts on this, but I'll confirm what I know, which does not include a work around for iMovie'08:
I installed iLife'08 and iWork'08 on three machines last night.
iMovie'08 would not even try to install on our G-4, 1.25gHz, the line item and check box were always grayed out. iLife'08 did not bother my existing iMovie'04, or '05, and installed the other components fine.
The G-5 and Intel machines both loaded everything fine.

What is the difference between standard, sorted and hash table
<b>can anyone say what is the difference between standard, sorted and hash tabl</b>
Hi,
Standard Tables:
Standard tables have a linear index. You can access them using either the index or the key. If you use the key, the response time is in linear relationship to the number of table entries. The key of a standard table is always non-unique, and you may not include any specification for the uniqueness in the table definition.
This table type is particularly appropriate if you want to address individual table entries using the index. This is the quickest way to access table entries. To fill a standard table, append lines using the (APPEND) statement. You should read, modify and delete lines by referring to the index (INDEX option with the relevant ABAP command). The response time for accessing a standard table is in linear relation to the number of table entries. If you need to use key access, standard tables are appropriate if you can fill and process the table in separate steps. For example, you can fill a standard table by appending records and then sort it. If you then use key access with the binary search option (BINARY), the response time is in logarithmic relation to
the number of table entries.
Sorted Tables:
Sorted tables are always saved correctly sorted by key. They also have a linear key, and, like standard tables, you can access them using either the table index or the key. When you use the key, the response time is in logarithmic relationship to the number of table entries, since the system uses a binary search. The key of a sorted table can be either unique, or non-unique, and you must specify either UNIQUE or NON-UNIQUE in the table definition. Standard tables and sorted tables both belong to the generic group index tables.
This table type is particularly suitable if you want the table to be sorted while you are still adding entries to it. You fill the table using the (INSERT) statement, according to the sort sequence defined in the table key. Table entries that do not fit are recognised before they are inserted. The response time for access using the key is in logarithmic relation to the number of
table entries, since the system automatically uses a binary search. Sorted tables are appropriate for partially sequential processing in a LOOP, as long as the WHERE condition contains the beginning of the table key.
Hashed Tables:
Hashes tables have no internal linear index. You can only access hashed tables by specifying the key. The response time is constant, regardless of the number of table entries, since the search uses a hash algorithm. The key of a hashed table must be unique, and you must specify UNIQUE in the table definition.
This table type is particularly suitable if you want mainly to use key access for table entries. You cannot access hashed tables using the index. When you use key access, the response time remains constant, regardless of the number of table entries. As with database tables, the key of a hashed table is always unique. Hashed tables are therefore a useful way of constructing and
using internal tables that are similar to database tables.

What is the difference between unit PC and EA?
Dear Expert,
Could you pls kindly tell me what is the difference of unit PC and EA? Seems they are both means each , every..
Thanks
HedyHi,
EA" is not a standard SAP Unit of measure, and that there might very well be a problem with the original definition of "EA" in the "Units of Measure" (CUNI) Customizing area. EA allows decimal places where as PC won't
PC is for the material product unit. Thanking you. -
What is the difference between full checkpoint and incremental checkpoint?
What is the difference between full checkpoint and incremental checkpoint?
And what is checkpoint queue?
Can someone clarify these concepts?
Thanks!Hi,
there are different types of checkpoints:
- Full checkpoint:
=> DBWR writes all dirty buffers from the Buffer cache to the datafiles and CKPT retrieves a new Checkpoint Change Number from a sys owned sequence and writes this number to all file headers and the controlfile.
-- can be triggered by different events, like a logswitch, a manual checkpoint (alter system ..), a shutdown and so on
This is the setup point for SMON for a crash recovery.
- Partial checkpoint:
=> DBWR writes all dirty buffers of a singel tablespace from the Buffer cache to the datafiles and CKPT retrieves a new Checkpoint Change Number from a sys owned sequence and writes this number to all file headers and the controlfile.
-- can e triggered by an ALTER TABLESPACE OFFLINE, ALTER TABLESPACE READ ONLY, ALTER TABLESPACE BEGIN BACKUP statement.
Incremental checkpoint:
number to all file headers and the controlfile.
-- can be triggered by different events, like a logswitch, a manual checkpoint (alter system ..), a shutdown and so on
- Partial checkpoint:
=> DBWR writes all dirty buffers of a single tablespace from the Buffer cache to the datafiles and CKPT retrieves a new Checkpoint Change Number from a sys owned sequence and writes this number to all file headers and the controlfile.
-- frequency is determined by FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET parameter (new feature to Oracle 9i), with wich you can specify a time in seconds which SMON is allowed to take maximal for a Crash Recovery until the database must be open again.
Dapending on the system you have SMON must calculate the maximum number of Redolog-blocks which it can manage to recover in the specified number of seconds. It will then create so called incremental checkpoints which will be tracked in the so called checkpoint queue in memory.
FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET is auto-tuned in Oracle 10g and Oracle tries to manage (incremental) checkpoint in a fashion that a minimum of I/Os are caused and a minimum time for crash recovery is needed.
If you set LOG_CHECKPOINTS_TO_ALERT to TRUE you will find checkpoint information in the alertSID.log file. You will see FULL and INCREMENTAL checkpoints then.
Hope this clarifies your question,
Lutz Hartmann
