iTunes will sync Google Contacts, but not calendar. Weird. Why? What's the best fix?

There must a better way to do this. The problem is, YOU CAN'T UNCHECK IPHOTO in the installer. You pretty much need all the support files which you can't see in the installer, but you usually don't want iphoto.
1 way to get around this is: Quit the installer if you launched it. Open the install disc > search = (any ilife app) > make visibility option 'invisible'. (if you don't know how, search invisible files in apple's help menu). run through the stuff to find a 'packages' (or some similar name) folder. Inside of that, I install everything except for what I don't want, which for me is the iphoto and imovie stuff.
Still there must a better way, maybe you can create your own installer from the packages w/ package maker or something and burn that image... Worth trying...
Please be assured that you will not get full integration between the current apps and the iLife apps in 10.9.x; Mavericks. The apps don't have all the expected hooks to each other due end of product development. This seems to be the crux of the problems I've had testing to make an idvd dvd.
If you're running 10.9, I recommend moving on to current replacements that will work as expected. That way you won't be wasting time running down project problems.

For example, suppose I have three collections of contacts: Bob's, Sally's, and Common. I want Bob to be able to access and sync Bob's contacts and Common contacts, and Sally to access and sync Sally's contacts and Common contacts. Bob and Sally never need to access or sync each other's contacts. Bob and Sally would both sync and share contacts in Common.
How would I best implement this? It's my understanding I have three options for managing contacts across iOS and OS X: 1. iCloud accounts, 2. Install OS X server, or 3. Install and manage Darwin CardDAV directly. Which method would best support what I wish to do?
I am a seasoned Unix geek well versed in the terminal, so I am prepared to get my hands dirty as much as necessary to achieve what I want. Also, it is sufficient if syncing takes place over WiFi on the local network, in fact, that is desirable versus syncing over the cloud.

So I need to add Fred, who can access and sync Bob's contacts, Sally's contacts, and Common contacts, as well as Fred's contacts. Can I do it with OS X server?
You mention you keep your and your partner's contacts administered locally. What keeps you from administering them through OS X server as well?
I am guessing this can all somehow be accomplished with multiple contact accounts, but I can't find any information on the web explicitly describing this.

What's the easiest way to move app data and data structures to a server?

I've been developing my app locally with Apex 4.2 and Oracle 11g XE on Windows 7. It's getting close to the time to move the app to an Oracle Apex server. I imagine Export/Import is the way to move the app. But what about the app tables and data (those tables/data like "customer" and "account" created specifically for the app)? I've been using a data modeling tool, so I can run a DDL script to create the data structures on the server. What is the easiest way to move the app data to the server? Is there a way to move both structures and data in one process?

There's probably another way to get here, but, in SQL Developer, on the tree navigation, expand the objects down to your table, right click, then click EXPORT.. there you will see all the options. This is a tedious process and it sucks IMO, but yeah, it works. It sucks mostly because 1) it's one table at a time, 2) if your data model is robust and has constraints, and sequences and triggers, then you'll have to disable them all for the insert, and hope that you can re-enable constraints, etc without a glitch (good luck, unless you have only a handful of tables)
I prefer using the oracle command line EXP to export an entire schema, then on the target server I use IMP to import the schema. That way, it's near exact. This makes life messy if you develop more than one application in a single schema, and I've felt that pain -- however -- it's a whole lot easier to drop tables and other objects than it is to create them! (thus, even if the process of EXP/IMP moved more than you wanted to "move".. just blow away what you don't want on the target after the fact..)
You could use oracle's datapump method too.
Alternatively, what can be done, IF you have access to both servers from your SQL developer instance (or if you can tnsping them both already from the command line, you can use SQL*PLUS), is run a script that will identify your apex apps' objects (usually by prefix to object names, like EBA_PROJ_%, etc) and do all the manual work for you. I've created a script that does exactly this so that I can move data from dev to prod servers over a dblink. It's tricky because of the order that must be executed to disable constraints and then re-enable them, and of course, trickier if you don't consistently prefix ALL of your "application objects"... (tables, views, triggers, sequences, functions, procs, indexes, etc)

Connect your new Nano and follow the on screen instructions, it will find your existing iTunes and update. Depending on the size of your library you can have it update the whole lot, selected playlists or you can manage it manually.

Also FYI, I just came back from a trip to Italy. Since the JellyBean update my phone has not been able to connect to way to many free wifi spots. I was unable to connect on the cruise ship as well as in at least half the ports visited. Is Verizon or Motorola working on a software fix to help me and many of you with this known issue???

Thank you Nick. being able to connect to wifi like everyone else would have enhanced my trip. I was able to connect in some spots but few at best. There is nothing that you can do to help me or many others like me. It is up to Motorola and verizon to work on a software fix. I spent hours and hours trying to get answers and neither company wants to own up to the reality that one of the best phones today is now a mess due to this last Jelly bean update. I have bought a new router for my home and sisters home but can not buy routers for the may places that my phone will not connect. I wish that you could help me. i only had the phone for three weeks before this happened. I get error messages , poor signal, unable to connect.
Do you know of any potential fix being worked on for this known WIFI issue?
I assume that the info you sent about transferring Pics and video is the same for music?

What's the easiest way to have datagrid including renderers disabled, with loading spinner?

I understand how to fire my start loading / end loading events when a datagrid is being populated from external data. What I do not know how to do effecitively (and have been googling) is what's the best practice for making the datagrid appear as modal with a loading spinner on top of it?
My train of thought of the approach is - onLoading, Make existing datagrid not clickable, then set alpha to dim the current datagrid. Show a loading spinner on top of the grid.
I can set the alpha which gives it the modal appearance, but how to make it so the user can't click anything in the existing grid? Setting the grid to enabled=false sort of works, but there are some icons in an item renderer in the grid that at are still clickable. Do I have to manually disable all of them as well?
Sadly, I'm suprised that googling for this hasn't turned up much. I know this must be a basic problem.

I would place the grid in a container and have 2 states when you want to load data you set the state to locked once data is loaded set state to normal, in locked state it will show a custom spinner, blur the container and disable the container which effectively blocks the Grid. I just included the button event so you could test the effect.

What is the best way to Install ilife11 iDVD and iWeb onto an iMac with Maverick

I would like to purchase a new iMac. Since this does not come with iDVD or iWeb, I would like to install these two programs from my iLife11 DVD. Will this work?
I assume I would have to do a custom install so I do not overide the newer versions of iphoto and iMovie? Is that correct?
Will I perform the install in typical Mac fashion or do I have to do something special?

My parents have gotten a new Windows 8 computer and want to use it to back up and sync their phones for updates. They don't share an iTunes account but they do share the credit card used to make purchases. They also so not want to set up "his and her" accounts on the computer. Sync (and make sure to let it fully back up) the old one. Connect the new one to iTunes (I recommend a cable rather than wireless sync - first one will take a while if you have lots of songs, movies, etc) and instead of "set up as new device" select "restore from backup" and use the back-up from your original iPad.

What is the easiest way to get time stamped wvm data with AI samp Ch Vi?

The AI sample channel VI only outputs single point waveform data which is making it a beast for me to get my input data into XY graphs. I have been trying to combine the data with a elapsed time clcok so I can synchronize all my inputs but it isnt working too great. All this stuff is in a while loop also, so that gives me trouble. Basically I just want to make an XY graph from both AI inputs.

Tim, no problem. I have attached the modified code that displays the readings from both devices on the same plot. I used a chart instead of an XY graph since it is much easier to use (it keeps track of elapsed time for you if you know the amount of time in between data points - and since the loop time is fixed we do know that). If this time were to change, then we would have to re-create the X-axis (time) and the XY graph would be necessary. One other note - the code that reads the values from the DAQ cards will not execute at exactly the same time, therefore the data will not be acquired at exactly the same time, though it will be close. Therefore, if your application requires these readings to be dead on together in time down to the mi
crosecond for example, then you would have to synch the two devices via hardware. Let me know if you intend to do that and I can steer you in the right direction. Hope this helps.
