What kind of Expection to catch?

I have a While loop that performs code until an int has reached to about 40000. However there is a few times during the code where the index is incremented by 1, so the array deleiveries an OutofBounds error everytime the code is performed. Is there an expection I can throw to cath this error and out a sentence saying "End of array of something?" Thanks

I tried addding if statements so it would onlt increase the index if the index was less then the array length but still didnt work...
while (index<fooArray.length)

  • New MBP i5 coming, what kind of improvement to expect from old MBP?

i got a 15" MBP in very late '07, 2.33 ghz core2duo, 2gb memory, 4m l2 cache, was a solid machine when i got it, now passing on to my sons to replace a nearly dead macbook...
i've ordered a 2010 mbp 15" 2.53ghz i5 with the high res antiglare, kept the drive at 5400rpm and not the fancy solid state (too expensive, would rather have the high res screen, and going from 5400 to 7200 on platters didn't seem dramatic enough)
in terms of using massive photo archives in iphoto, dvd creation in idvd, imovie along with all of the usual (lots of mail.app, tons of word/excel from msft), what kind of performance leap do you really think i can expect? will it be as dramatic as that 50-100 percent people imagine? or just "a lot better" - i know that it will look better because of the high res, i'm thinking more about app launch times, online video viewing (many tabs at once etc) and using photo/video intensive apps more...
also running windows 7 in a parallels vm so hoping for even more speed...
    all thoughts welcome...

Hey Luis. I not only remember…I still have mine (OS 9)!  Works perfectly well…for some things; just need to be selective about what I ask it to do. (Also have its big brother Pismo running Tiger, which is still an extremely competent machine.) When I take them out of their cases, I'm still amazed at the G3's build quality.

    I do a weekly update.
    Everything is cool.
Now I would  love to keep the iTunes Mediafolder on the Nas and delete the one on my internal HD.
What kind of trouble I may run into?
    Where are the hidden catches?
What can go wrong, and how can i undo any mistake?
I also have an iTunes Match acccount.
    Cheers

    HI
Read this user tip Make and keep a backup of your iTunes library, and only stream from the cloud.
Problems? No hidden catches. Whilst streaming using match, you will need a wifi connection. You main worry is that if your NAS drives fails, you need to redownload your music from match but this could take time depending on how large your collection is. Personally I keep an additional backup of all my music as a matter of course.

  • ETF charges - what can I expect?

I understand I've already asked about how much the ETF itself would be, and I understand that it's $350.
I just want to know; are there other charges? Like taxes? Surcharges?
I've done a little looking around and found that several people have had some additional sums of money added to their ETFs.
I plan to terminate my contract at the end of the month, since the number that's under contract is one I'm not actually using, and I don't want to keep or pay for a number I don't use. (Long story short; I neglected to look more into the termination aspect after transferring my prepaid number over to my Note 3, so I wouldn't have to use a new number, my 14 days ran out, and now I have the first month bill and an ETF to work out.)
I'm not angry with Verizon, actually. It's my own fault for not understanding how things work, but now that I do, I can be more careful about how I go about my next phone purchase in the hopefully distant future (only purchased the Note 3 because my old phone was on the fritz; no sound, jammy keys, and it was a 3 and a half year old Intensity II.) and I'm actually grateful for the experience.
So... I live in New York, can ANYONE tell me what kind of taxes and surcharges I could expect from my ETF?
I can understand if there's taxes, which would make the $350 become $378, with the 8% tax thing in mind (unless NY uses a different tax rate for these kinds of things as opposed to the typical "buy something in the store for $10, total comes to $10.80" tax idea.)
Would there be ANY other kind of taxes I can expect to have added on?

    Okay, thank you for answering!
Now, just so I understand, would that 12% be on my ETF bill, or my actual phone bill?
Just so I know to have the money ready!
It's not that I'm leaving Verizon for good; I'm using a prepaid number and would rather use my phone on a prepaid plan than a contract one. I've been pleased with my Verizon experiences so far, so I don't see a reason to leave :3

  • Memory upgrade...what can I expect?

I have just ordered 2gb of memory from Crucial to replace the 512mb i have installed. What kind of performance improvement can i expect?
I am at my wits end with my MacBook. Aside from the screen flicker, the performance is abysmal. All applications are slow and i have seen the spinning beach ball al lot more than i did with my old 800mhz iBook!
I tried the MacBooks in the Apple Store and they seemed to fly and the speed of them is what i would expect from a modern machine. The only difference besides the slight processor speed (mine is a 1.83 Core Duo 2) was they all had 2gb memory? Is this the key?
    Paul

It was unfortunate that Apple initially sold MacBooks with only 512MB RAM. Upgrading to 2GB will make a lot of difference, with less spinning beachballs.
The processor speed also affects your experience, but I think it has more effect on calculations (like exporting videos).

  • What kind of hit for carrying balances [update 7/3]

I've been keeping my utilization way low, with most accounts reporting zero, and the others reporting nominally, so that my utilization has been about a third of a percent. This week I decided to get some postponed dental work done, and to pay for it with some zero-interest-rate cards and not worry so much about the FICO scores. And I'm considering letting the balances ride for awhile, not paying them off totally, and letting my reported balances go up to the neighborhood of 5% overall utilization, with the zero interest cards just under 30%. How much of  a hit can I expect on my FICO scores if I do in fact let my utilization go from a third of a percent to five percent? Even if you tell me I can expect a bad hit, I might do it anyway, just as an experiment...My scores are of only academic interest at this point since I should be gardening at this stage of the game. But I do wonder what lies ahead. Updates:  5/17 Started May 16th with: 10 accounts at zero balance, 3 accounts posting total balance of $241, representing less than .3% overall utilization Over the next 5 days, I allowed 3 of the 13 revolving accounts to post a total of $1524.33, for 1.7% overall utilization, with individual account utilization ranging from 2.13% to 49%. 5/22 EX dropped 2 points. 5/29 Balances up to $2700, representing 3% overall. No other score changes yet. 6/3 The entire $2700 has been reported to TU, and my TU score has not budged. 6/5 As of today I'm up to $3500, for 3.9% overall utilization. My only FICO change so far has been -2 on EX. But both my FAKO scores at Credit Karma just dropped 5 points, which makes me nervous. So I will probably let it peak at 3.9% and start bringing the numbers down now. 6/8 Boom! EQ FICO dropped 11 points! 6/11 No new change in scores. 6/17 will start reducing utilization 6/16 30 days from the start of my experiment: EX -2, EQ - 11, TU - No change 6/24 down to 2% overall utilization, no change 6/27 Today TU dropped 3. After my utilization dropped from 3.9% to 2%. Go figure. 7/3 OK now I'm back down to .3% overall utilization, right where I started on 5/16. No further change in scores....yet.

I know that making my present credit card banks happy isn't impaired by my using their cards a lot so long as I pay them off. My question only relates to what kind of temporary hit my FICO scores will experience in the process. "Your long term relationship with the cards you do have, that is your main goal now, not getting a bunch more cards." Well I don't know about that; some of my cards aren't as good as others,, and none are low interest. Some have exorbitant balance transfer and cash advance fees.  I would like to have some other cards which charge lower interest rates.

  • What kind of cell library does opensparc T1 verilog code use?

    Hi all
I am running simulations on the instruction fetching unit module of opensparc T1 recently, when I tried to simulate the module with VCS from (synopsys), it has some errors below
Error-[URMI] Instances with unresolved modules remain in the design.
    Invalid instantiation at: "sparc_ifu_fcl.v", 1022: dffrl_async rstff(

It seems like some modules like mux3ds or dff_s #(4), I am using NangateOpenCellLibrary_PDKv1_3_v2009_07/verilog/NangateOpenCellLibrary_typical_conditional.v as library files.
But it does not hve descriptions to modules like mux3ds or dff_s #(4).
Does anyone know what kind of cell library that opensparc T1 use to define those modules?

oh also - to show (for coherence) what happens if i try to
    modify it
i can add "import ,,, ack let me add something else here
    hmm....
    static function blank() { trace("screens off!"); screensaver.blank("SCREEN_1"); }
okay THAT is where , aside from hitting a catch - that it gives errors (getting about 50 errors, every single reference in the file)
now note - the other class/actionscript file right next to it doesnt throw any errors at all - very very similar - nothing wrong with it
now if i put "import screensaver;" directly above that line
it lists the exact same errors + one more error, in the same way
if i put that line upwards more, same thing
it can not find the include componentry or whatever it is called
i can import 20 things there and it wont go anywhere, no way, no how
now if i put the "import screensaver" alllllll the way at the top prior to the package { } declaration
then! i get a different error, cant put the import statement there
otherwise it's boffing on every single thing in the file - and note - not any of the other three files that are very similar
so basically to further elucidate - i am getting the actual import statement to fail

  • How can I know what kind of field is?

    Hi,
I have a function that receive a field, and depends of the kind of field (Text, numeric or date) is necesary execute a expecific script.
Is it possible ask to the field if it is a numeric, text or date field?
    Thanks

I have no straight answer for this situation... However you may achieve this using workaround methods using following two properties...
$.name or this.name gives you the name of the fields you gave at design time. So name those three fields they way you can easily identify their type with their name. And build you logic based on that.
You may also use $.className or this.className to get what kind of the field it is but not to the granularity to the level of your expectation.
I prefer the first one. Try that and let us know what you found.
    Good luck,

  • What kinds of drives can Time Machine backup?

Please notice the absence of the word "to" in the subject. My question is not what kinds of drives Time Machine can write its backup to (a subject that is covered extensively everywhere on the web), but what kinds of drives it can backup, i.e. the data from which drives can be included in the backup.
My Mac mini is a little storage-capacity challenged, so I use an external USB drive for most of my work data. This drive is FAT32 formatted, because I need to access it from a Windows PC as well. I find that this drive (which I do not use to write the TM backup to - that's impossible because TM can not backup to FAT32 drives) is in TM's "Do not backup" list and I can't remove it from there. I suspect this has to do with the FAT32 formatting, but I do not understand why that is (again, it makes perfect sense that the drive TM writes its backup to has certain restrictions on the formatting because of the mechanism that TM uses to create its backups using hard links - to create a backup of certain data, I would expect all TM would need is read-access to that data, which clearly is not a problem for the Mac because I am happily using the FAT32 drive as storage).
So, my question, in a nutshell, on what type of drive does data need to be in order for TM to be able to create a backup of it? Is there a way to get TM to backup the data that resides on my FAT32 disk? Also, I plan to move the data on my FAT32 drive to a network drive. Is there a way to backup data that resides on a network drive with TM? What type of protocol (NFS?) would I need to use to access the data on the network drive? *Again, please, this is not the gazillionth question about where a TM backup can be written to, this is about what data can be backed up by TM.* Thanks in advance for any insight.

Why is that? Does it have to do with the fact that TM uses the same notification mechanism for changes on the filesystem that SpotLight does? I guess that if FAT32 won't work, with NFS or something similar I will certainly be out of luck?
That *****, I was looking forward to move the data from my FAT32 external drive to a network drive, reformat it and start using it as a second TM backup volume.
When I reformat the external drive from FAT32 to HFS+ will I then be able to back it up using TM? (I.e., it really is the formatting that is the problem, not the fact that the drive is external)? What about NTFS? (I really want to keep the data in a form accessible by Windows directly, in case I need to run Windows on the Mac).

  • What one should expect more from the unit

In fact after I had bought my DR8, I browsed the forum to see the most typical failures encountered by the users. I checked all the problem modes on my new DR8 to see it doing with no problem. What I could conclude from what I've read is that the problems' origin lies in the firmware flashing version and process. That made me real curios, why somebody who just have bought the unit would go and flash it? What one should expect more from the unit, except the risk to ruin it as it seems the most of the results are here...

I'm just happy to have fully functional nice drive as it says in the product spec

What you say is more or less what an update in general is supposed to do.
What makes me real curious is - when a product does what the product spec says, why one should risk and flash/update/whatever... to get more for the money? I don't think so.
Reading the forum problem posts I conclude the most of the problems are caused by that kind of "innovative" seeking of updates...

  • OPC -- Labview interface. What kind of structure is good?

    Hello,
My target is build interface between OPC and Labview. Main functions of interface is: unit conversion, signal filtering, signal status generation etc. Because there is at least 300 OPC-tags configuration should be easy as possible. Measurement scales and other parametric information are read from .csv file. So there is two different inputs  shared variables (OPC) and .csv file. Output information is one cluster in shared variable.
I tryed to program structure which generate a new case if there is a new tag. I used enum control and case-structure.  This works almost okay but still I have major problems. If I change order of tags (in .csv file) I have to program almost all cases again. Every tag  must be fully configurable. E.g sometimes you can read measurement scales from OPC and sometimes from .csv file. So that was the reason why I tested case structure. I think that because every tag is different they need own case. When this interface is running these tags are updated e.g. at 1s intervals.
Does anyone have any idea how to build this kind of interface ?

what kind of a score is a good score for a
or a fresher who has taken the SCJP exam?
Is scoring 59% ok, or is it really not worth
mentioning?Given that with my career plan I wouldn't even
mention an SCJP at all, I think 59% is a pretty low
rate. Frankly, I didn't expect that someone passes at
that level. (I'm used to tests where you fail if you
don't reach 80%)Passing score for SCJP 1.4 is 52% (half + 1 question). I too was surprised it is that low.
Luckily the passing score for SCJD is a lot higher (85% I think).

I want to use the Web module to publish to the a website... What kind of server do I need to be able to publish my website?

You don't need a server, you just need a web hosting package such as the ones from GoDaddy or many other hosts. You then send the web gallery directly from LR to your web space.
As you're asking such basic questions, it might be best if you read articles like this and see if a friend or colleague can get you started.
