What providers can host a JSP application?
Dear fellows,
I am looking for Providers that can host my JSP application and a Database (Access, SQL Server, PointBase or mySQL). Do I need to register a name with that same provider or is that a separate matter?
Thanks for your inputs.
After much research and deliberation I chose SuppleHost and have been very happy with performance and service -- not a shared JVM and full access to the server through SSH. I have worked with other providers and can't say that they're all this good.

Hi there !
I'm running Oracle enterprise edition on NT with oracle http server under apache.
I created a JSP application using jdeveloper
and deployed it to the web server.
Now I'm still getting getting nullPointer exceptions after I have modified the jserv.properties file according to the documentation
Can someone give me a file that is working for her/him under the above described circumstances ?
Many Thanaks in advance

Hi,
This might not be a JSF question, but I thought I'd start here as I'm building a JSF application. Upon startup of my Weblogic 9.2.2 server, I see these error messages
log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (org.apache.myfaces.webapp.StartupServletContextListener).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.
One complication, my log4j.properties file is actually called "my.properties" (bizarre company reason). Is there somewhere in my faces-config.xml file or an equivalent where I can indicate what log4j properties file I'd like to use?Your company policy is to use non-standard names so that things must be configured manually? Interesting.
In the past people created a servlet those sole purpose was to configure log4j in the initialization sequence and then do nothing. -

What components do I need to develop and run JSP applications?
I am currently developing a JSP-based application using Apache, Tomcat, MySQL, and JDBC. I'm considering switching to Oracle since I know it better and it has better support for certain capabilities.
But, it's very confusing trying to determine from the Oracle sites just what I need and which platforms are supported. What do I need to buy and what can I download?
So, which Oracle components do I need to develop and test JSP applications using Application Server? I'll probably get into XML as well.
Does any of it run on Win98, WinNT, Win2000, or SolarisIntel? I likely will not deploy on any of these platforms, but it would be convenient to develop on my Intel laptop, if possible.
--Terry Westley, [email protected]Oracle's IAS includes an Apache and Jserv with JSP runtime by default.
You could simply migrate your Apache/Tomcat JSP to Apache/Jserv/Oracle JSP without problems, including win32 plattform.
To run Servlet compliant with JSDK 2.2+ you has to use Apache mod_ose module with your servlets and jsp running inside the Oracle JVM, this combination is more scallable and secure for big projects, but it requires more hardware for your laptop.

I am unable to open iPhoto on my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.3) after installing ilife 11 from a disc. The message I get is "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete. What can I do?! Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Reinstall it.This time delete the receipts first.
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
Important:
As you're on 10.9.3 you'll need to update iPhoto to v9.5 before opening it. Use Software update. -
I just got a notice to update my firefox to 4.0 and when I downloaded the new software it indicated: that I can't open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture. Any ideas about what might be wrong and how to fix it?
Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html -

Hi, sallymaesmag.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you are in the Philippines, check to see if the country is changed in the iTunes Store settings on the iOS device. These steps will show you how to change the preference.
Change your iTunes Store country
Sign in to the account for the iTunes Store region you'd like to use. TapSettings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region.
Follow the onscreen process to change your region, agree to the terms and conditions for the region if necessary, and then change your billing information.

I tried to save a video to IPhoto, and then when I tried to open IPhoto it told me I can't open the application because classic environment is no longer supported. What does this mean, and how do I get back all my photos and fix this? thanks.
With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution. We can't see your computer so we need to know some details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what fixes have you tried?
where is you library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

How can WLS use JSP pages in a Web Application (either a .war file or a war directory structure) without a java compiler?
I suspect either the JSP specification is flawed (i.e. it doesn't take account of servers using just a JRE), or BEA's implementation is broken.
Production servers do not have a JDK installed. They only have a JRE. Therfore a java compiler is not present on the machine that the Web Application is deployed onto.
On the development machine, when the server is requested to load the JSP it creates a tmpwar directory within the Web Application directory structure. This is then included in the resultant .war file thus:
D:\war>jar -tf gmi.war
META-INF/
META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
gmiService.jsp
WEB-INF/
WEB-INF/classes/
WEB-INF/classes/com/
WEB-INF/classes/com/bt/
WEB-INF/classes/com/bt/gmi/
WEB-INF/classes/com/bt/gmi/gmiService.class
WEB-INF/getList.xsl
WEB-INF/getListByConnection.xsl
WEB-INF/getListByDistrict.xsl
WEB-INF/getListByDistrictConnection.xsl
WEB-INF/lib/
WEB-INF/source/
WEB-INF/source/build.bat
WEB-INF/source/gmiService.java
WEB-INF/web.xml
WEB-INF/weblogic.xml
tmpwar/
tmpwar/jsp_servlet/
tmpwar/jsp_servlet/_gmiservice.class
tmpwar/jsp_servlet/_gmiservice.java
When deployed on the production server with the web.xml file set to use the following values (note XML stripped):
weblogic.jsp.pageCheckSeconds
-1
weblogic.jsp.precompile
false
weblogic.jsp.compileCommand
javac
weblogic.jsp.verbose
true
weblogic.jsp.packagePrefix
jsp_servlet
weblogic.jsp.keepgenerated
false
And in the weblogic.properties file:
weblogic.httpd.webApp.gmi=war/gmi
I've also tried with the .war file, but that insists on creating another tmpwar directory outside of the .war file.
Then, although I have set pageCheckSeconds to -1 (don't check and don't recompile) ter production server still attempts to recompile the JSP's:
Mon Sep 25 11:40:11 BST 2000:<I> <WebAppServletContext-gmi> *.jsp: init

The default Java compiler from sun lives in the tools.jar that comes with
the JDK. Just add that to your set of JARs which are deployed in production
and you should be fine. No need to install the full JDK - just make the
tools.jar available to WebLogic.
