What's the best way to transfer just my photos from my MacPro(10.6.8) to my new 27inch retina display iMac

I have just purchased a new 27inch IMac and am cleaning out files etc from my MacBook Pro (circa 2010) with 10.6.8 OS. But the photos I want to keep in tact. Whats the best way to upload the photos onto the IMac - using time machine? or drag them over album by album?

I assume you have a home network. Connect both computers to your network. If possible do this using Ethernet for faster speed and better reliability. Configure your MBP for File Sharing. Use a copy program such as Carbon Copy Cloner 4.0.2 to transfer your entire folder of photos to your new machine.

  • What's the best way to transfer 11,000 photo's from my old mac to my new one?

What's the best way to transfer 11,000 photo's on iphoto to iphoto on my new mac.  I've just spent 24 hours importing them onlu for it to say there is not enough space available  - BUT I'VE JUST BOUGHT AN NEW UPGRADED MAC?

    Don't import them.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • What is the best way to transfer my iphoto library from old imac to new imac. both have iphoto 9.2.1

What is the best way to transfer my iphoto library from current imac to my new imac.  Both imacs have iphoto 9.2.1
os on old imac is 10.6.8.   os on new imac is 10.7.2.   I want the albums  and events to stay intact.  I have 4500 photos and 79 videos. 14.9 gb. looking for some advice here. Thanks so much.

Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • What is the best way to transfer my music library from my windows pc to my new macbook air?

what is the best way to transfer my large iTunes library from my windows pc to my new macbook air?  Not all purchased, many from CDs I owned

Moving a library: Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive.  Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes.  At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • I just bought a new Macbook. What's the best way to transfer all my info from the old one?

Hey everyone! I just got my new retina display Macbook Pro, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to transfer all my music/photos/files/data/etc. from my old Mackbook Pro. I have a 1TB external drive and an 8GB flash drive that I can use if I need to. Any sugestions? Thanks!

What i did with mine, I cloned the drive of my old macbook to my external drive using carbon copy cloner.
Once i was done with the clone - i used migration assistant to transfer my apps/data/pictures/files over my new macbook....
when using migration assistant - do not transfer your old settngs and if you're doing an app transfer, only transfer the ones you need and that you know will work with your Retina...
    good luck..

  • What's the best way to transfer itunes music collection from pc to pc

So after some weeks of working at it, I finally have my itunes collection on my Dell about where I wanted, stray tracks have been returned to their proper home, genres are properly assigned, album art located and placed where it belongs and duplicates have been eliminated and so forth.  I thought the time had come to transfer a copy of this magnus opus to my surface pro 2.  Itunes loads just fine to SP 2 desktop (since the SP is both a full function PC as well as a tablet the absence of an itunes app for the SP is of no significance).
I used a flash drive to transfer the files located under itunes.  What I discovered was much of the album art did not transfer and perhaps a quarter of the music didn't transfer either.  I can't explain the former, but the latter appears to be related to music I purchased through Amazon which is stored elsewhere (although Itunes had no difficulty finding it on my Dell and I had no trouble working with it to get the various tasks completed that are mentioned above).  I thought I could just perhaps copy the amazon folder to SP 2 music folder but that didn't work either.
So the thought occurs to me that I am making entirely too much work of this.  There has to be a relatively simple way to transfer the Itunes collection to another Itunes program, also running on a pc.  What easy thing am I missing, yet again?  thanks!

There is more to an iTunes library than the purchases alone.
There is more to an iTunes library than the media files alone.
The library files and album artwork folders contain other data that should be copied. The iTunes database may hold the only reference for artwork for some files, and will be the only place holding metadata for any files in .wav format. It is also where playlists, ratings, play counts and other data not stored in tags resides.
In particular each library has a unique ID, copying the media alone doesn't transfer this, and syncing a device to a library with a different ID can cause data loss.
Copying the entire iTunes folder is the key, but even then extra care may be needed if the library is in the wrong shape, e.g. files stored outside the media folder, or the media folder not stored inside the main iTunes folder.
The vector used for the transfer, flash drive, external hard drive or network, can be selected according to availability and suitability. In the case of the Surface Pro 2 we're unlikely to be discussing a large library, but you should be aware that people have libraries larger than any available flash drive.
One transfer over a network may be faster, or more convenient, than copying files to a secondary drive at the source computer and then copying again from that drive to the target.

  • What's the best way to transfer my iTunes music from windows to mac?

I ordered my first Macbook which will get here on Monday, August 13, 2012. This is my first Macbook so I need a little help transferring my music over to my new laptop from my current Windows laptop. Is my best option just using home sharing? I did a Google search which turned up home sharing but I wanted to come on here to see if it is in fact my best route. I'd like to transfer all my music (2500 songs) with the album artwork and info I've entered. I'm a little picky about my music so I'd like everything to transfer over. Thanks in advance.

Reading that article I have just one concern. In the notes section it says,
"This process will create a new user account on your Mac to contain the Windows PC information that is migrated over.  It will not merge the information with an existing user account on your Mac."
I don't want to have two accounts that I have to switch back and forth between.
You don't have to switch between accounts. Just use the new account.
If you start up and then add a new, 2nd account with the imported info, you can just use this new account. Either keep the first account as an admin user or delete it.
If I do this the first time I start the computer will I be able to have just one account?
    Yes.
    I have two accounts.
One only for admin stuff and another for my regualr, day-to-day use.

  • What is the best way to get all my photos from my G4 to my iMac.

The export feature does not grab the originals and does not export the movie clips. Yet I don't want to just paste the old library folder to my new machine because the old library had gotten corrupted at one time and I don't want to risk that.

Well first of all I did have a corrupt library on my G4. I followed instructions that someone gave me and created a new library and it's performing OK although some of the dates are not correct.
Don't worry about the dates you can correct them in iPhoto 08.
I still have the corrupted library on my G4's hard drive. I left it there in case I did not get all of my 5500 pics.
But did you get all the pics? That's really a Yes or No question. If it's Yes, then we can rule this library out of the confusion.
So I would like to possibly repair the old one and add the pics from the new library to it that I've taken since a year ago.
Huh? You have a working new library with (we hope) all the pics from the damaged one and yet you want to go backwards to the old one, repair it and then add the pics you've taken since? Is there a reason you want to do this?
I also bought a imac 24 intel and I wanted to get all my pics onto it without bringing any corruptions with the pics.
Okay, but you have a good working library with all the old pics and the new pics. So move that to the new machine. I don't understand the issue?
So there is a good bit going on. It's kind of confusing what with upgrading and exporting and importing and backing up and duplicates etc. It would not be that hard if I had 500 pics from a year or 2.
Okay, well here's a tip. Forget about updating the g4, either iPhoto or the operating System. Just focus on getting all your photos into the new machine. Then worry about that.
    Regards

  • What's the best way to transfer everything from my 5-year-old iMac to my 1-year-old iMac?

What's the best way to transfer everything from my 5-year-old iMac to my 1-year-old iMac?
I'm doing role reversal with these two.  The newer imac is becoming our business computer, the older one will be our personal computer from now on until it gives out.  For the record, I have Carbonite on the business unit.  Should be a no-brainer, right?  (Which is precisely why I'm asking!)
Thanks for whatever timely and accurate advise you may have.

Thanks. I stumbled across migration assistant later that afternoon in a google search. Just finished using it today to do the deed. Appreciate your quick response!

  • What is the best way to transfer all of my data from my iPod touch 3rd generation to my iPhone 4s?

I have a 3rd generation iPod touch, and now I am getting an iPhone 4s. What is the best way to transfer all of my data, including paid-for apps and music, from the iPod to the iPhone without losing anything? Can I just do it through iTunes or the iCloud? I have never used iCloud before.
