What's the trick to positioning named anchors on a side scrolling site?

I'm putting together a page that scrolls to the right. My problem is getting the named anchor for a div that's to the right of the screen to slide over to the left of the screen. Right now it only goes to the right, so what's in the div is still out of view.
Sorry I don't have a link up to what I've started so you can see what I mean.
I've been trying to figure out the CSS and HTML behind www.deanoakly.com to figure out how he does it. Can anyone here take a look to see? Any help is much appreciated!
When  I say the page scrolls to the right I mean to the left. It stops at the anchor to the right, but the content I want in view is still to the right. Is there a way of getting that anchor to stop on the left of the screen, rather than the right?

You misspelled the name of the site. It's http://deanoakley.com.
Anyway, it's done using JavaScript. The details of the technique used on that site are here: http://lab.centralscrutinizer.it/the-tiny-scrollings/.

    I'm not exactly sure how this is going to work, but when iOS 8 comes out, Family Sharing is supposed to be part of that. For the first time ever, family members will be able to share content even if they do not ahsre an Apple ID. I don't know how that will impact leaving digital content to others in your family.

  • What are the best practies for naming symbols (spaces OK,etc.)?

    What are the best practices for symbol naming for ease, flexibility, & to avoid "gatchas" down the road?
    Does it make any difference if one includes spaces in the names of symbols?  Are there any widely followed conventions for naming them like using camelCase or underscores?
    Thanks!

    Hi Gina D 3333,
    Best-practice file-naming conventions for PDF files are the same as for any other file. I found this article on Apple's website that contains some useful pointers to consider when you're naming files that will be used on multiple platforms: OS X: Cross-platform filename best practices and conventions
    I hope this helps!

  • What is the trick to 'exec' UNIX commands from within IDM?

    Hellos...
    We need to change the permissions of a file which an IDM script writes.
    Basically I call this rule to write bytes to a file. The write method works but the exec fails.. I dont see permissions set to "666".
    <block trace='true'>
    <defvar name='retBuff'/>
    <invoke name='writeFileUtf8' class='com.waveset.util.Util'>
    <ref>fileName</ref>
    <ref>xmlData</ref>
    </invoke>
    <set name='retBuff'>
    <invoke name='exec' class='com.waveset.util.Util'>
    <concat>
    <s>chmod 666 </s>
    <ref>fileName</ref>
    </concat>
    </invoke>
    </set>
    </block>
    What is the correct method (or any way which works) to run shell commands from within IDM??????

    Ok. There is no 'trick' just an appreciation of what is being executed, where.
    This rule works. I was foolish in testing it via the BPE.
    I start the BPE on my laptop which connects to a UNIX server. Silly me was trying to run a UNIX command on my laptop. oops.
    Opening an xwindows session and starting the BPE on UNIX gives the expected results. Not sure when the BPE is finally killed off (we are on IDM 7.1) how does NetBeans handle this situation.

  • Importing Video from iMovie HD - What's the Trick?

    Hello brilliant Mac Fans,
    I've been working steadily to create a cool demo reel for a client using iMovie HD (6) and Keynote '08. Well, the file in iMovie is Widescreen DV, and looks great. When I export it at full quality (as a dv file,) I play it in Quicktime and everything looks dandy, but when I drag that same file into Keynote, it has the wrong aspect ratio and has skips here and there...
    I guess my question is, for Widescreen video, what are the ideal settings? Does anyone know the best frame rate, kind of file, etc. that plays well with Keynote?
    Thanks to all for reading...

    Hello Carol,
    you can create slideshows in iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD. In iPhoto you can create your slideshow in a few simple steps with music and transitions, then export it to iDVD for DVD authoring. One drawback (for me) is that you choose the duration for each picture and a transition, and these will be applied to all the pics in the slideshow, so not much room for customisation. On the other hand, if you want something quick and simple, this might be the right approach.
    In iMovie you can import the pictures from your iPhoto library and create a slideshow. Here you have the possibility to completely customize all the settings (length of each pic, different transitions and music) and you can add titles and effects if you like. The process in iMovie will be longer as you'll have to import the pics one by one and change settings everytime you want a different outcome, but it will be a more personalised creation.
    In iDVD you can create slideshows more or less like in iPhoto with more or less the same options. You can import your pics from the iPhoto library or from a folder and set duration and transition type and add music.
    There have been several posts on this forum regarding problems with pic quality when played from DVD on TV - one problem is that pictures and video are not the same (pixels vs. lines, interlacing etc.). I personally have had the best results by importing photos into iMovie and applying a Ken Burns effect to each, but have to say that I don't work much with pictures (mostly video), so you'll probably get other sound advice from other users.
    hope this helps

  • What is the use of Position Column Name in USER_CONS_COLUMNS Table

    Please let me know the purpose of POSITION Column Name in USER_CONS_COLUMNS Table.
    Example :
    Created this below Table having two constraints 1.Primary Key 2.Check Constraint
    CREATE TABLE A(ID NUMBER PRIMARY KEY,NAME VARCHAR2(30),SAL NUMBER CHECK (SAL > 0))
    When i execute the below query
    SELECT POSITION,CONSTRAINT_NAME FROM USER_CONS_COLUMNS WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'A'
    it displays the data :
    POSITION CONSTRAINT_NAME
    1 SYS_C005488
    SYS_C005487
    Only for the first record it displays the POSITION but not for the second row.
    Kindly help me on this.

    SQL> CREATE TABLE A(
      2     ID1 NUMBER
      3   , ID2 NUMBER
      4   , NAME VARCHAR2(30)
      5   , SAL NUMBER CONSTRAINT A_SAL_POSITIVE CHECK (SAL > 0)
      6   , CONSTRAINT A_PRIMARY_KEY PRIMARY KEY (ID1, ID2)
      7  )
      8  /
    Table created.
    SQL> SELECT CONSTRAINT_NAME, POSITION, COLUMN_NAME
      2    FROM USER_CONS_COLUMNS
      3   WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'A'
      4   ORDER BY CONSTRAINT_NAME, POSITION
      5  /
    CONSTRAINT_NAME                  POSITION COLUMN_NAME
    A_PRIMARY_KEY                           1 ID1
    A_PRIMARY_KEY                           2 ID2
    A_SAL_POSITIVE                            SALA primary key constraint can have multiple columns - the position shows the order the columns are in the primary key definition (and thus also in the pk supporting index.)
    A check constraint does not have any such ordering of the columns involved, so therefore position is null.

  • What is the PDF (book) file naming convention for iTunes?

    I need to re-import my PDFs after migrating from "Windows XP to Windows 7, as the PDFs were not included in the Libary XML.
    What should the PDF file names be so that when each is imported, it will reconize the Author and Title, and I won't need to manually
    edit these using "Get Info".   I tried <Author> - <Title>.pdf, with a space-hyphen-space betwwen Author and title, but that didn't work.
    I have "keep iTunes media folder organized" checked, so Author folders are auto-created.
    Thanks!

    When you add a PDF to iTunes it normally sets the filename as the book name. As far as I'm aware iTunes doesn't attempt to extract any other metadata from the PDF even if it is present. If you let iTunes organize your files then after setting the author and title it will move to ...\<Media Folder>\Books\<Author>\<Title>.pdf.

  • What is the best data structure for loading an enterprise Power BI site?

    Hi folks, I'd sure appreciate some help here!
    I'm a kinda old-fashioned gal and a bit of a traditionalist, building enterprise data warehouses out of Analysis Service hypercubes with a whole raft of MDX for analytics.  Those puppies would sit up and beg when you asked them to deliver up goodies
    to SSRS or PowerView.
    But Power BI is a whole new game for me.
    Should I be exposing each dimension and fact table in the relational data warehouse as a single Odata feed?
    Should I be running Data Management Gateway and exposing each table in my RDW individually?
    Should I be flattening my stars and snowflakes and creating a very wide First Normal Form dataset with everything relating to each fact?
    I guess my real question, folks, is what's the optimum way of exposing data to the Power BI cloud?
    And my subsidiary question is this:  am I right in saying that all the data management, validation, cleansing, and regular ETTL processes are still required
    before the data is suitable to expose to Power BI?
    Or, to put it another way, is it not the case that you need to have a clean and properly structured data warehouse
    before the data is ready to be massaged and presented by Power BI?
    I'd sure value your thoughts and opinions,
    Cheers, Donna
    Donna Kelly

    Dear All,
    My original question was:
    what's the optimum way of exposing data to the Power BI cloud?
    Having spent the last month faffing about with Power BI – and reading about many people’s experiences using it – I think I can offer a few preliminary conclusions.
    Before I do that, though, let me summarise a few points:
    Melissa said “My initial thoughts:  I would expose each dim & fact as a separate OData feed” and went on to say “one of the hardest things . . . is
    the data modeling piece . . . I think we should try to expose the data in a way that'll help usability . . . which wouldn't be a wide, flat table ”.
    Greg said “data modeling is not a good thing to expose end users to . . . we've had better luck with is building out the data model, and teaching the users
    how to combine pre-built elements”
    I had commented “. . . end users and data modelling don't mix . . . self-service so
    far has been mostly a bust”.
    Here at Redwing, we give out a short White Paper on Business Intelligence Reporting.  It goes to clients and anyone else who wants one.  The heart
    of the Paper is the Reporting Pyramid, which states:  Business intelligence is all about the creation and delivery of actionable intelligence to the right audience at the right time
    For most of the audience, that means Corporate BI: pre-built reports delivered on a schedule.
    For most of the remaining audience, that means parameterised, drillable, and sliceable reporting available via the web, running the gamut from the dashboard to the details, available on
    demand.
    For the relatively few business analysts, that means the ability for business users to create their own semi-customised visual reports when required, to serve
    their audiences.
    For the very few high-power users, that means the ability to interrogate the data warehouse directly, extract the required data, and construct data mining models, spreadsheets and other
    intricate analyses as needed.
    On the subject of self-service, the Redwing view says:  Although many vendors want tot sell self-service reporting tools to the enterprise, the facts of the matter are these:
    v
    80%+ of all enterprise reporting requirement is satisfied by corporate BI . . . if it’s done right.
    v Very few staff members have the time, skills, or inclination to learn and employ self-service business intelligence in the course of their activities.
    I cannot just expose raw data and tell everyone to get on with it.  That way lies madness!
    I think that clean and well-structured data is a prerequisite for delivering business intelligence.
    Assuming that data is properly integrated, historically accurate and non-volatile as well, then I've just described
    a data warehouse, which is the physical expression of the dimensional model.
    Therefore, exposing the presentation layer of the data warehouse is – in my opinion – the appropriate interface for self-service business intelligence.
    Of course, we can choose to expose perspectives as well, which is functionally identical to building and exposing subject data marts.
    That way, all calculations, KPIs, definitions, and even field names, and all consistent because they all come from the single source of the truth, and not from spreadmart hell.
    So my conclusion is that exposing the presentation layer of the properly modelled data warehouse is – in general - the way to expose data for self-service.
    That’s fine for the general case, but what about Power BI?  Well, it’s important to distinguish between new capabilities in Excel, and the ones in Office 365.
    I think that to all intents and purposes, we’re talking about exposing data through the Data Management Gateway and reading it via Power Query.
    The question boils down to what data structures should go down that pipe.
    According to
    Create a Data Source and Enable OData Feed in Power BI Admin Center, the possibilities are tables and views.  I guess I could have repeating data in there, so it could be a flattened structure of the kind Melissa doesn’t like (and neither do I).
    I could expose all the dims and all the facts . . . but that would mean essentially re-building the DW in the PowerPivot DM, and that would be just plain stoopid.  I mean, not a toy system, but a real one with scores of facts and maybe hundreds of dimensions?
    Fact is, I cannot for the life of me see what advantages DMG/PQ
    has over just telling corporate users to go directly to the Cube Perspective they want, that has already all the right calcs, KPIs, security, analytics, field names . . . and most importantly, is already modelled correctly!
    If I’m a real Power User, then I can use PQ on my desktop to pull mashup data from the world, along with all my on-prem data through my exposed Cube presentation layer, and PowerPivot the
    heck out of that to produce all the reporting I’d ever want.  It'd be a zillion times faster reading the data directly from the Cube instead of via the DMG, as well (I think Power BI performance sucks, actually).
    Of course, your enterprise might not
    have a DW, just a heterogeneous mass of dirty unstructured data.  If that’s the case,
    choosing Power BI data structures is the least of your problems!  :-)
    Cheers, Donna

  • I want to know how to enable the links that are sent in an email, with each upgrade of Firefox it gets harder and harder to do so. What is the trick to this?

    With each upgrade of Firefox, I have a harder and harder time, getting to the links provided in my emails. Some times I am able to trick the link into working, if I continue to to try every link in the email, but most of the time, I just have to give up. I know that I need to change something, maybe in the settings, but I don't know what.
    Please help me. I am considering just going back to Internet Explorer.

    This did not solve my problem. I can sometimes click on a link (word) provided in an email, that leads to a site, but it does not list the website address!! It works sometimes, providing me with a chance to enable links for this address or enable link (I think basically for just that one time).

  • What is the trick in adding a "secondary zone" to my DNS server

    Hello,
    I am having a hard time adding a secondary zone to my dns server. I followed the instructions carefully but I still get the "refuse" on my zone transfer.  Do I need to go to the "NIC" of my interface card and make the primary DNS
    as the server itself and the secondary DNS the IP of the  "remote" DNS server?
    Also, do  I need to start configuring the "reverse Lookup zone" (before even starting to add a "secondary zone" and perform a -ZONE -TRANSFER), and add first the "a" record of the other (remote)  DNS server?
    Thanks,
    Teapaq Long.

    Hi,
    According to the event ID 6525, this may be caused by a refuse of zone transfer request.
    In normal, the secondary DNS server just configured with a preferred DNS server as itself, the alternate DNS server is optional, it depends on your needs.
    When you fill the master DNS server’s IP address when you add secondary zone in the secondary DNS server, it will prompt a warming information if you do not add a PTR record in the master DNS server in the reverse lookup zone, but this won’t affect the zone
    transfer process.
    Have you followed the description of event log and check to see if the master server has enabled zone transfer(Properties
    of zone->Zone Transfer tab->Allow zone transfer)?
    Besides, verify that the master server of the secondary zone is authoritative for the zone. Reference steps below:
    1. On the secondary DNS server, open DNS manager.
    2. Right-click zone, select the General tab, note the IP address of the server that is listed in
    Master Servers.
    3. In the console tree, right-click DNS, and then click
    Connect to DNS Server.
    4. Click The following computer, type the IP address of the master DNS server, and then click
    OK.
    5. In the console tree, expand the master DNS server, and then expand the folder that contains the zone.
    Note: If the zone is not in the folder, the server is not authoritative for the zone. In this case, you must configure the secondary server to transfer the zone from the correct master server.
    6. Right-click the zone, click Properties, and then click the
    Name Servers tab.
    7. Confirm that the secondary server is listed with the correct IP address. To correct the list, do one of the following:
    If the secondary server is not in the list, click Add.
    If the IP address of the secondary server is incorrect, click the server in the list, and then click
    Edit.
    If this problem still exits, from the event log I notice that there are 2 secondary DNS server, REM-LAB-2K3.leftremote.com and LOC-LAB-2K8.localright.com. Are they belong to different domain(leftremote.com and localrght.com) ? what the relationship between
    them?
    It would be helpful if you could provide the network topology. And describe the IP configuration of master DNS server and secondary DNS server.
    Best Regards,

  • What is the trick to selecting table cells?

    I have a table whose construction and styling is underway; it is very hit or miss to select all or part of that table. Can anyone suggest a trick to make table cel selection more certain?
    Sometimes I get the little fat arrow and sometimes I don't..
    thank you!

    If on windows, use the "esc" button to select the cell or the text. If you select a cell, use the arrow keys to select more cells. Whole table, select one cell then "Ctrl A" to select all the table. The fat arrow is the same as the one in Word, it's sometimes driving me crazy too.
