What to use to connect my iPad 2 to wi-fi?

Hi everyone - I'm travelling to Europe very soon with a wi-fi only iPad2. I'd like to buy something that would allow me to connect to wi-fi whenever I want and not have to rely or depend on the cyber cafes or other free wifi places. Can anybody tell me what I need to get? I'm currently in the USA.
Thanks!

Your only real choice then is some sort of mifi device - a device that connects to a cellular data network and shares the connection over wifi.  It is basically what an iPhone does when functioning as a hotspot.
The problem though is, if you buy something here (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint - they all offer such things with data plans), you would need to pay roaming fees when overseas, so that will be a very expensive connection.  You could get something once over there, and maybe use it with some sort of pre-pay plan or pay-as-you-go plan with a local carrier, which would presumably be cheaper.  If you got an unlocked GSM mifi device, you may well be able to use it here with AT&T or T-Mobile once you got back (if it supported the right frequencies and everything).
It really will be as expensive as using a 3G iPad2 would be had you bought one of those instead of the wifi-only.
The only inexpensive or free way is to use inexpensive or free wifi.

  • How do I find out what is using a connection pool

This morning weblogic 8.1.5 complained it couldn't expand a connection pool because it had reached is max concurrent connects limit.
The issue I have is that I don't actually know what is using the connection pool. It should be defunct and redundent but obviously not.
This caused all the threads to be consumed and the managed server hung.
Does anyone know wether it's possible to interigate the pool to find out what it's doing ? I can't check the db as it's managed by another company and I have a v limited read only account.... I can't even select from v&session.
Cheers in advance for any help.

  • 2 iTunes accounts, unable to change what is used for "updates" on iPad.

Sorry - this might sound confusing, but I'll try to explain.
I have 2 iTunes account. My primary Canadian and a US account.
The US account is only for those situations where I have to redeem a free promo code, etc.
The problem I'm having is that for normal, every day use my standard account is what I use to download and update applications.
However now when I try to "Update" apps from the iPad directly, it tries to use my US store account and, since the applications were purchased from my default account, I cannot update them directly on the iPad.
Updating them on my PC through iTunes works just fine, however.
I don't know what I need to do to fix this.
I've signed out everywhere I can on my iPad and signed back into my default account.
I've done the same through iTunes, I make sure whenever I sync my iPad, I am signed in on my default account.
Any time I download on the iPad, I generally only use my primary account, and there are no issues with the initial download.
Any suggestions...??? Did I clarify enough?
    Thanks!

When you originally set up the iPad did it or does it ask you to log into your iTunes or possibly we're you logged into your US account when you connected your iPad for the 1st time. Have you done a full restore on your iPad...start fresh not a restore from back up.

  • I have a black border (picture frame) on my tv when I watch netflix using hdmi connecter with ipad 2 how do I get rid of it?

How do I remove a black border around the picture when watching netflix on my hd tv with hdmi connecter on ipad 2? When I first watch the picture is fine but after around 20-30 minutes the picture shrinks and a black border (picture frame) appears it's a 47" tv with a 23" picture.

Play with the Aspect Ratio button on your TV Remote Control e.g. 16:9, 4:3 or stretch

  • What to use to connect units????

  • What to use to connect to scb 2162

This is kind of a hardware question but just wondering what type of connector would plug into the header J13 on the NI CB/SCB-2162 board?  Would like something I could solder small wires to and then just plug into the socket.
    Thanks.

    Hi svt4cobra6,
If you look on pages 12 and 13 of the CB-2162 user guide (linked here), you'll see a discussion of the J13 connector. A resistor network is recommended but you could probably make your own connector.

  • What accessory to use when connecting to Harman Kardon AVR

    Hi,
we use a Harman Kardon AVR 145 for our audio at home. Please can anyone advise me what accessory to use for connecting the iPad? We have the bridge for our iPod, but that is no good of course. Please advise on a cable to use. Thanx!

Sorry, but you'll have to either wait for someone owning that equipment to show up or for someone to take the time and trouble to look it up and see what sort of connection options are provided on it. Or, if you want to perhaps move the process on a bit more quickly, and seeing as how you have it right there, you could always provide that info.

  • Connect my ipad to pc with an HDMI cable

I'm trying to view my ipad on my PC, I have them connected via HDMI cable... I don't know how to make it show on the PC, any suggestions?

HDMI is a video-out system.  It's used for connecting an iPad to a monitor or TV or something of the sort.  If you have HDMI 'in' sockets on your computer then you could look at the image from there, but that's very rare: most HDMI sockets on a computer would be HDMI out sockets.

  • I used to connect the iphone to computer to make the backup . I need to know where is the backup path on computer?

i used to connect the ipad or iphone to computer to make the backup . I need to know where is the backup path on computer?

The following quotation is from iTunes: About iOS backups
Where are iTunes backups stored on your computer
The folder where your backup data is stored depends on your computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your data-backup routine. iTunes places the backup files in these places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Windows XP:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press Return.

  • HT4157 My iPad. Oonnects to other wifi it used to connect to my work wifi but it will. Not connect now what is work I am connected with my iPhone but iPad will. Not connect or it says safari can not open page

I can connect my iPhone to my work wifi but when I try to connect my IPad it will not connect. It says safari can not open page.  What's up with that I have used IPad connected to work wifi before

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • What does it mean when my ipad is in Recovery mode? It's connected to my imac for software update and it says I must "restore" the ipad before itunes can be used. Will I lose everything on my ipad?

What does it mean when my ipad is in Recovery mode? It's connected to my imac for software update and it says I must "restore" the ipad before itunes can be used. Will I lose everything on my ipad?

Unless you have a backup from which you can restore, yes you will lose all of your data and settings.
You should be able to sync your content back to the iPad if you have been syncing with iTunes all along. If you don't sync with iTunes, you can download much of your paid content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. This explains downloading past purchases.

Unfortunately, at this point, you must restore the device before you can move on. There is nothing you can do to avoid it now.

  • Is there a way of connecting the ipad to the smart board in the classroom, so that the smartboard is the control, and the ipad is displaying what is on the smartboard? This is to help a visually impaired child see what is on the smartboard.,

Is there a way of connecting the ipad to the smart board in the classroom, so that the smartboard is the control, and the ipad is displaying what is on the smartboard? This is to help a visually impaired child see what is on the smartboard.

    Absolutely!
Install Splashtop2 on the PC and enable it to be controlled or ran from iPad or Reflection to simply allow iPad to serve as PC unwired monitor. With Splashtop and an Apple TV connected, you use the smartboard as usual, yet the PC and iPad can see the same content. The impaired child can even interact with the Smart Board via the iPad as if he were writing directly on the big screen. Erasing functions can be done by touching the Smart Board manual controls. Several variables are in play that cause this lack of functionality:
Apple won't permit PC software that infringes its proprietary apps.
Smart Board companies refuse to develop iPad apps because they feel threatened and are being replaced by iPads
School districts think Apple TV is meant for copyright infringement and could expose them to safe harbor lawsuits
Network administrators make it impossible to login Apple TVs because they don't want the streaming occurring
Classrooms are not able to keep up with the technology of using the iPad
Clicker companies refuse to play with iPad because they see it as a potential threat to their core business clients
Apple is not working as hard as it could to exploit its capabilities in education, thus losing money in iPad sales
The bottom line is that we educators and technology developers are hurting our childern with petty conflicts.
