When a bean is not a bean

I have received an error in my servlet container stating that:
cannot create bean from class PhotoBean
This bean was derived from an oracle sample file, and i modified it a bit (like having a connection being provided from another class) and now when i try to use it as a bean in my JSP, it throws the above error. What causes a class not to be able to be used as a bean?
Pete

It has to have 3 features to be used as bean:
1) public MyPropertyClass getMyProperty()
2) public void setMyProperty(MyPropertyClass mp)
3) and private member MyPropertyClass MyProperty;

  • JSF error handling when the bean is not correctly loaded

    Hi,
    I am doing some error handling in JSF and I want to do it in an elegant way. I have the following scenario for error handling.
    When the bean is initialized I load the bean with values from DAO which give SQL Exceptions.
    Since the bean is not loaded I properly I have to send the user to an error page showing the error message why I am sending the user to this page.
    I can do it by [ FacesContext.getCurrentInstance.redirect("/error.jsf") ] doing so I will loose all the FacesMessages that are added by the exceptions.
    Instead I want to use the [ FacesContext.getCurrentInstance.dispatch("url") ] which will allow the transfer of the user but I get the following
    16:59:39,341 WARN [lifecycle] executePhase(RESTORE_VIEW 1,com.sun.faces.context.FacesContextImpl@8537f9) threw exception
    java.lang.ClassCastException: javax.faces.component.UIViewRoot
    and the method that I am calling is
    public static void programErrorEnd() {
    logger.info("in the prgmErrorEnd mehod");
    //intializing the contex object
    FacesContext ctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    try {
    //ready to dispatch the url.
    //ctx.getExternalContext().redirect("app/error/prgmerror.jsf");
    ctx.getExternalContext().dispatch("error/prgmerror.jsf");
    } catch (IOException e) {
    //TODO what to do when there is an error at this stage.
    finally {
    ctx.responseComplete();
    }Thanks and Regarding

    Just let it throw the exception and define an error-page entry in the web.xml which catches the specified exception (or a superclass of it or a HTTP status code) and displays the error.jsf page accordingly.

    The above error caused the server to use all available memory and required a reboot to proceed.
    Subsequent testing against the Sun Appliucation Server 7 on Windows 2000 dev environment using the Sun Studio IDE for debugging and trace statements inserted in the code indicate that the Application Server is removing the Stateful Session Beans when they time out without an ejbPassivate event and without serializing the beans to the data-store. cache-idle-timeout-in-seconds set to 180 and removal-timeout-in-seconds set to 1800.
    The server.log indicates that the beans are timing out:
    [19/Aug/2004:18:15:10] WARNING ( 1664): [NRU-com.telstra.nodeman.ejb.AddressMaintBean]: IdleBeanCleanerTask finished after removing 2 idle beans
    Trace statements inserted in ejbPassivate do not appear in the log.
    It is my understanding that the above timeout should have caused an ejbPasssivate and serialization of the beans.
    The beans have been validated using Sun Java Studio Enterprise 6 with 'EJB validate'.
    My reading of the problem is that the beans are not being serialized and the error occurs when the application attempts to reference (getHandle) the bean after timeout.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks Thorick.
    I am using NRU caching. WL 7.0 SP2.
    I have not defined idle-timeout-seconds in my weblogic-ejb-jar.xml. As I understand
    the default value for this is 600secs. So the ejbs should be removed after this
    time. Below is the
    weblogic-ejb-jar.xml that I am using.

    HI,
    We are using weblogic 7.1 SP6, Oblix and TRC struts in our application. During normal access to various pages system works fine. When the application is not accessed for 30 minutes system displays session expired exception. But some time when a page is not accessed for some time, say 15 - 20 minutes and user clicks any link system displays a exception dump in the screen. The exception displays for pages with track changes. The exception starts with following line

  • Session scope managed bean is not instantiating?

    We have the need to use a session bean (rather than pageFlowScope) in our application.  But it looks like the session beans are not being instantiated at run time like other beans are.  I created a simple test case to verify.  One bean, named "MySessionBean", defined in the task flow as Session scope, then referenced in a view with an input text box, value:  #{sessionScope.MySessionBean.value1}. When I run the application,  I just get PropertyNotFoundException, Target Unreachable, 'MySessionBean' returned null.
    If I simply change the bean to use pageFlowScope, everything works fine.   I have debug code in the bean constructor, and it never gets called.   Is there some other step I am missing to have ADF instantiate the session bean?

    No luck, I tried it in both adfc-config.xml, and faces-config.xml.  I also tried moving the call to my view, from my bounded taskflow, into the adfc-config unbounded task flow, and then I ran that instead.  Still got the same error.    Here is my code from the the last round of tests with the view called in the main adfc-config.xml unbounded taskflow:

    Hi ,
    We have enabled context sensitive DFF in Bank Branch Page for HZ_PARTIES DFF , We have created Flex Map so that only bank branch context fields are only displayed in the bank branch page and  as we know party information DFF is shared by supplier and Customer Page so we dint want to see any Bank Branch fields or context information in those pages.

    Does your JavaBean has a default constructor (a parameterlessconstructor).

    completely but the client side JavaBean class "A"
    was not initialized because the exception was thrown when soap trying
    to
    instantiate JavaBean class "B":
    SAXException: Could not instantiate bean: B
    I looked at jdk API and the InstantiationException is thrown only if
    class
    is an interface or an abstract class,
    but class "B" is not abstract or interface, it is simple JavaBean class.
    What is the trouble?
    Help me pls

  • Backing bean properties not getting updated

    I have an input text in my JSP page and it is component-bound to backing bean. The problem is that when I change value of the InputText in the JSP, the value is not getting updated in the backing bean.
    Here is the InputField definition in JSP page.
    <h:inputText binding="#{backing_employeeEdit.firstName}"
    id="firstName"/>
    and here is the setter in backing bean
    public void setFirstName(HtmlInputText inputText1) {
    this.firstName = inputText1;
    Pls note that there is no validation errors because the page navigates successfully. The only problem is that new value is not updated.

    I don't know, wht exactly u wants to do... Here is java code and is working fine for me...
    Emp.java
    public void action() {
         System.out.println(inputText.getValue());
         Emp tt = new Emp();
         inputText.setValue(inputText.getValue().toString()+"bilal");
         tt.setInputText(inputText);
         System.out.println(inputText.getValue());

  • When to use Custom Adapter, Event Beans and Spring beans

    Hi,
    I have basic question on when or on what basis/scenario the Custom Adapter, Event Beans or Spring beans should be used.
    All three has same implementation methods.
    Please help me in understanding when to use Custom Adapters, Event Beans or Spring beans.
    Thanks,
    Sri
    Edited by: 897694 on Mar 7, 2012 8:12 AM

    custom adapters:
    you have to use a custom adapter when you don't find any adapter in ocep which will serve your purpose.
    Most of the times you use an adapter to connect the application with external things like http server, etc It can be both to listen the events or to send the events outside.
    Event Beans:
    This type of beans does most of the work that an adapter code does but in convention beans are not used to connect the application with external stuff
    You can use Beans as event sink etc In this case using an using an adapter is not suggestable.
    If you implement Interfaces like Initializing Bean for an adapter code it won't work properly, you have to use an event Bean in that case.
    Spring beans:
    Spring beans are used when the bean code doesn't implement EventSink or EventSender.
    These beans are used to enable something (eg: make ${wlevs_dev_home}/abc/a/b.java this path is not understandable by java code unless you override the path using a spring bean)
    Most of the things which doesn't need a connection between components in the application (eg cache loader: you can do this using spring beans and event beans both but spring beans doesn't need a connection with cache)
    Hope this small writeup helps you :)

  • Package javax.faces.bean does not exist

    I am new to JSF. I tried to build a jsf application that runs on glassfish 3. I did not use IDEs.
    When I compile it , I encountered the following 4 errors:
    Error 1: package javax.inject.bean does not exist
    Error 2: package javax.faces.bean does not exist
    Error 3: cannot find symbol : class Named
    @Named<name="user">
    Error 4: cannot find symbol: class SessionScoped
    @SessionScoped.
    Please help me fix these errors.
    Thank you in advance.

    You must also be new to Java if you don't know how to deal with these problems. Do you even know what the classpath is?
    I warn you right now: if you don't know the more advanced features of the Java platform (annotations, packages and the classpath, jar library usage, classloaders) you will basically get nowhere developing web applications - especially using a complex framework like JSF.

  • NullPointerException When trying to Get Session Scoped Bean data in another ManagedBean

    hello
    i wont to access to some data in my session scoped bean from a request bean so when i try to get this data all i get is
    com.sun.faces.mgbean.ManagedBeanCreationException: An error occurred performing resource injection
    on managed bean «discussionlaoder»
    in the end of the exception there is
    Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException at Hiber.discussionlaoder.init(discussionlaoder.java:35)
    this is my code:
    1-the request scoped bean
    @ManagedBean
    @RequestScoped
    public class discussionlaoder {
      private MyadmninHelper halper;
    @ManagedProperty(value="#{serviceBean}")
         private ServicesBean  serviceBean;
        @PostConstruct
        public void init() {
          halper=getServiceBean().getHalper();  // line 35
    //seter and geter code
    2-the sesions scoped bean
    @ManagedBean (eager=true)
    @SessionScoped
    public class ServicesBean {
        private MyadmninHelper halper;
    //seter and geter code
    am using glassfish server 3.1
    thank's for help

    What you need to do is fix all those typos in your code, then you don't have to override names.
    - the proper Java class name is DiscussionLoader, not discussionlaoder (fix english typo also)
    - if you want to inject a class named ServicesBean, then also call the property the same.
    @ManagedProperty
    public ServicesBean servicesBean;
    But what you're doing now is call the class 'ServicesBean' and then in your managed bean declaration you seem to change your mind and it should all of a sudden be 'serviceBean'. Well then rename the class so you don't have your typo anymore!

  • Transactional error when using JMS from stateless session bean

    I get a transaction exception when committing a bean method responsible for sending to a JMS topic. This happens only occasionally when two separate threads invoke this method "at the same time".
    The scenario:
    Two separate threads running two different instances of a stateless session bean (slsb A). This ejb (slsb A) has an injected slsb B which is communicating with the the topic.
    Both instances of slsb A are utilising the same instance of slsb B.
    The CMT transactions for the two threads start in slsb A from methods with transaction attribute "RequiresNew". All nested methods are to other slsbs and have the transaction attribute "Required". The method in slsb B which sends the message is closing both the session and the connection to the topic.
    I'm running Glassfish version 9.1_02 (build b04-fcs) and JMS implementation OpenMQ version 4.1.

  • Backing Bean method not invoked - h:selectOneRadio

    Hi,
    I am trying to invoke a method in the backing bean when a radio button is selected, but for some reasons the method is not getting invoked, any idea why is it so? copying the code for reference.
    I have a command button in this jsp which when clicked is fetching the records(from the backing bean) perfectly and a radio button for each of the record so user can select any one of the records listed.

    The valueChangeListener runs at the server side. You need to submit the form to the server side to invoke the valueChangeListener. There is no client side magic like Javascript.
    To submit the parent form on change of the dropdown, just add the following attribute with a piece of Javascript to the h:selectOneMenu:onchange="this.form.submit()"
