When I am importing photos from DVD rom, iPhoto shows " not enough free space on the volume containing your iPhoto library", but i have over 200G free in hard drive? how do i fix it?

Mac Pro Book
Mac OS X 10.7.5
iPhoto 11 9.4.2
importing photos into iphoto, shows "Photo cannot import your photos because there is not enough free space on the volume containing your iPhoto library."
tried creat new library, same thing.
currently only has 2,500 photos in iPhoto
Importing about 500 photos, but cant do it due to the message showed above.
Who knows how to fix it?

How much free space do you have on your hard drive?  Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
     User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Why am i getting this warning? iPhoto cannot import your photos because there is not enough free space on the volume containing your iPhoto library.

I can no longer import photos from my PC because I get this message:  iPhoto cannot import your photos because there is not enough free space on the volume containing your iPhoto library.  How can I fix this problem?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I have IPhoto version 9.5.1. I cannot export pictures since the following message appears: "iPhoto cannot import your photos because there is not enough free space on the volume containing your iPhoto library." What am I suppose to do? I have a Mac mini which properly used can perform any reasonable task, the problem is I do not know what to do.

    Hmm... that was labelled:
    As a Test:
    In bold and all
    Try repair the main Library:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I wish to import photos from CD,however although process starts Ok,I receive error message"Insufficient disk space,iPhoto cannot import your photo because there is not enough free space on the volume containing your iPhoto library.Does this mean I cannot

    Only bought Mac last April?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • HT2635 What does this mean? "I Photo cannot import your photos because there is not enough free space on the volume containing your I photo library"

I cannot import my pictures and movies from a DVD - What does this mean when I get a computer message on my Mac -
"I photo cannot import your photos because there is not enough free space on the volume containing your I photo library"

It means pretty much what it says - your HD is full.
This can arise because your HD is full - how big is your HD? How much free space on it?
Or it can be a mis-report due to to other issues.

Lost all photos on my iPhoto and get the ERROR WRITING TO DISK when trying to reload from Time Machine. iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem writing to the volume containing your iPHOTO LIBRARY  . Looking for solution.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) 2>&- | wc -l | pbcopy
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be a number. It's automatically copied to the Clipboard. Please paste it into a reply.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

  • IPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem writing to the volume containing your iPhoto library.

Ive read a few threads, but nothing that showed what I'm experiencing. I had this issue prior to updating to OS X Yosemite. My iPhoto was working fine until recently. So I thought by updating to Yosemite it would fix this error, but it still continues. Any suggestions?

It was previously used on a PC so it's formatted for Win NT Filesystem.
That is your exact problem - by default the Mac can not write to a Windows NT disk so you must have had third party software that allowed you to writ to it and that software is not compatible with Yosemite
and in any case it is always going to be a problem since
it must be Mac OS Extended (journaled)
When the if library is on any other format you will have spotty performance ad often it will not work at al - you must put it on a properly formatted drive - either a new drive or use Disk Utility to totally erase and reformat that drive - this may be a problem since you have no place to put the data on that drive while you reformat it
Is your backup drive formatted Mac OS extended? And does it have room to temporary store the files from your Windows NT drive while you reformat it?

  • IPhoto freezing when trying to import photos from iPhone

iPhoto has started freezing when trying to import photos from an iPhone. The device is recognised but just get "loading . . . " message with no photos appearing. Has anyone else seen this?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • I get this when i try to add photo to iphoto:The disk containing your iPhoto library is running low on space.

i get this message when i try to add photo to iphoto: The disk containing your iphoto is running low on space

    1 - NEVER assume - it makes an "*** out of u & me"
2 - for the third time - how much space do you have on the drive where your iPhoto library is located?
If you continue to refuse to answer that simple question then no one can halp
    LN
PS - your iPhoto library is NEVER automatically moved anywhere - to move it
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
