When I open my iphoto, the screen is blank and the wheel keeps spinning. I do I recover my photos and get iphoto to respond?

My iphoto is acting up. I hope I have not lost all of my pictures. When I open up iphoto, I get a blank screen. I have NO idea how to recover my photos. Also, the wheel keeps spinning and I cannot click on anything to force quit things so I have held my power button down to turn off the computer. Can someone please help me?

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Basically,
I noted the past 2-3 days that my battery is dying really quick. It dies after being charged all night within 25 minutes. I also noticed that the wheel keeps spinning at the top of my screen between the time and wifi symbol. Is there a connection?

I think that it is turning the WiFi switch on in Settings (from "not connected" ) that starts the wheel.
In normal circumstances the wheel stops when you have selected and connected to a network of your choice.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Question is a bit unclear. Once you start a rental, you have 24 hours to complete it. I pause mine all the time. When I hit play again, I get a choice to either resume where I left off or start all over. I believe it is necessary to have an internet connection while view ATV content, so if you lost the connection, that might make it "spin".
Re your tag line "Can I view my ATV thru my iPad?" If you have a wifi connection, you can view almost anything with AirPlay. Or you can view anything from the various ATV selections without having your iPad on. Of course, you have to pay for some options like HBO, Netflix, etc.

On opening "new tab" function screen is blank and there is no tab icon in upper right .

clicking on '+' gives a blank page with no tabs of previous sites. No tab icon appears in upper right corner, no scrolling possible.
Using laptop with win7. Works properly in desktop using XP.

Go to the System/Accesability preference pane and enable the Zoom capability either with keystrokes or Magic Mouse:

On the bottom bar of the window (on the left iPhoto 11, on the right in other versions) note the slider. Drag it left.

I have the exact same problem, I think. I was on my iPad 3's home page swiping R-L to locate a certain icon when all of a sudden the screen appeared to get HUGE. So big I could only see one or two icons. I couldn't even turn it off to try a reboot because after I pushed the sleep/wake button, I couldn't find the red slide bar. I finally just had to wait for the battery to die, then recharge it, and it looked normal again. I also spoke with several friends who haven either iPads or iPhones, and they've all had this happen to them. I checked my accessibility settings, and Zoom was already off. If I am speaking to a person, if they hang up then I am back to the phone application. If I'm leaving a message, I am unable to return to the phone screen to end the call, and have to wait until the other phone hangs up. I'm also unable to switch back and forth to look at my calendar if I'm calling someone about scheduling. This has only started happening since the most recent iOs update. I run into situations similar to this about once per day during the work week, as I use my phone is this manner quite often. While not life altering it is quite frustrating. Can anyone here help me figure out a way to avoid this? If it helps, I have noticed a general downgrade in overall performance starting two system updates ago (apps opening more slowly, closing unexpectedly more often, etc.). I have an iPhone 3GS with the latest OS update.

I could be corrupted backup.
You can check the notification settings for message.
Settings>Notification Center>Messages>Alert Style
It should be on Banners or Alerts.
Settings>Messages> Turn on Imessage and send as SMS and below that "Blocked" to check if you have any numbers block might be blocking the message.
You can also do a hard reset by holding power and home till it restarts and release after seeing the apple logo.
Still doesn't work? Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings
