Issue caused by Skype addon by Firefox. Which version of Skype are you using? Make sure its latest one?

I have Firefox set to automatically look for updates then ask if I want to install them. I do this when convenient (may also need to restrict downloads on another machine when paying for Internet use by amount downloaded) Until recently it did just this. Firtefox 6 seems to have downloaded & installed (& lost all passwords & cookies) I assumed this happened when someone else was using the machine & said yes. It has now automatically downloaded the latest update automatically and the settings are still set to ask me first. What has happened & how can I stop it please?

I'm using adblock, adblock popup, better privacy, ghostery, no-script. Sometimes this purple screen, on the right side of the screen, almost on top, is very big, and blocking text. I can click it away, but it keeps returning.
Is there a way to shut off the appearance of this screen?

J.KoopmanI use NoScript, and it uses a bar along the bottom, so it's probably one of the others.
Some extensions provide a toolbar icon or Tools menu entry allowing you to adjust how they work.
In other cases, you can use the Options button on the Add-ons page for that extension:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
If you figure out how to tame it, can you post back with the answer? Other users often find these threads in web searches, and it could be helpful to them. -
When I open up Mozilla or try to open up mail or website, I have to click okay each time I try to read something because it tells me: Components.classes['@Softage.r4/Skype/SkypeFfExtension',] is undefined.

On the new version of iTunes the shuffle button and replay buttons appear to have disappeared on the genius tab and am always having to listen to shuffled songs now :( how can I stop this?

When opening Firefox 6 I receive 2 JavaScript Application errors; the 1st is "TypeError: Component.classes['''TvtPwmComponent_CID'''] is undefined". This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

You can have infinite tabs opening if you have selected Firefox as the application to handle a file if you get an ''Open with'' download window.
Firefox should not be selected as the application to handle a file and you have to remove the action that is associated with that file type.
You can delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/mimeTypes.rdf mimeTypes.rdf] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to reset all actions or set that action in Tools > Options > Applications to 'Always Ask'.

When you quit firefox with tabs and windows open it "remembers". When you start Firefox it tries to restore the tabs and windows you had open.

If my network connection goes out briefly due to a problem at my ISP, FireFox immediately opens a "diagnose network problems" page. This is particularly annoying when I don't even have FireFox or any other software open. Ideally, I do NOT want FireFox to even check if my Network is connected. How can I stop this?

A website recommending that I install Codec Performer opens a new window about every 10 seconds. How can I stop this?
One potential cause of this is an unwanted extension. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
If you are adventurous about installing software from various websites, you may have loaded a bundle that contains some, well, crap. To review recent additions, go to your Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and click the "Installed on" column heading to bring the most recent items to the top. Remove anything unexpected or unwanted.
