I have been planning to buy macbook, and air seems to be the most appropriate for my needs, but theres no retina display in it. So I wonder if it will be presented soon and is it worth waiting?

discussing future products etc is not allowed on the board.
the 2014 model came out with a faster I5 and lower price just a short time ago.

Notice that you can't order it. The red text at the bottom says that they can't ship until they get agency approvals. Common problem in China, and the wait time varies, but I was wondering if anyone here had any information that would provide an estimate on when the ordering would be activated.

Hello, I want to buy a MacBook and I am not sure if I should buy the current one or if I should wait till the new one appears. When will the new Macbook appear?

While new MacBooks have not been announced, I would stay away from getting a new MacBook right now. If you can afford the slightly higher price of a 13" MacBook Pro, that would be a good choice. The current MacBooks are very outdated. The Core 2 Duo processor that they use has not been used by other major manufacturers for several years now in this class of machine (you can still find them in some ultra portables... but even most of those have moved up to the Core "i" series). The current 13" MacBook Pro has the most current hardware commercially available at the moment.

I'm about to buy my first ever Mac, exciting right?
Anywho, I was set on getting a MacBook (or possibly pro) then the new MacBook Air came out, after looking at it and doing a bit of research it seems to be a fantastic computer but I'm not sure if it can handle what I'll be using it for.
On a general day to day basis, I use these programs:
- a Web Browser (surfing the web and watching online video mostly)
- iTunes
- Scrivener (Writing Software)
- Skype
- AIM
- Microsoft Office
On about a weekly+ basis, I'll be using these programs:
- iMovie
- Adobe Flash CS5 Professional
- Adobe Photoshop CS5
- Other Adobe programs?
Other little tidbits that may be helpful:
- I'm a college student (And though I don't write a lot of essays, stupid technical classes, I will next year because...)
- I'll most likely major in Graphic Design, English or both.
- I spend a lot of time on the computer.
- I'm not a gamer, outside of the occasional online game
- I'm not planning on keeping too much on the computer. (Only programs and whatever project(s) I'm currently working on. Everything else will be kept in an external hard drive or Dropbox. Too keep away clutter and because having so many PC's crash on me has made me paranoid.)
I like the new MacBook Air because it's small and light and has the perfect amount of battery to fit my needs (I hardly ever keep my computer away from a plug for more than 7 hours) Also I really never use my CD drive on my laptop, in fact I think I only used it twice this past year. So really my only concern is that I'll buy it and end up discovering that it doesn't fit my needs, hence this post.
Beyond this I only have three questions:
1.) How much memory should I have? (I do want some wiggle room)
2.) Does a mini jack mean I have to buy special headphones or an adapter?
3.) Does the Facetime Camera = Web Cam? Can I use it for the same purposes? (ex. taking photos/videos, video chat through Skype, etc.)
And the main question: Would the New MacBook Air work for me? If not, which Mac should I get instead? (I'm getting a 13" laptop across the board)
And I probably posted way too much information about my computer life, but if there is anything I learned from taking technical classes its that the more information I can give the better suited computer you can advice me to get.

Absolutely. The 13" MBA (baseline configuration) at $1299 weighs in at $100 more than the 13" MBP, upgrade the MBA to 4GB and it's now $200 more. So you're paying more money for comparable or "slightly" better performance.
There's been a lot of performance benchmarks released over the past 4 days since I made my initial remark. Not to mention in that time I've had the opportunity to use a 13" MBA with 2GB & 4GB of RAM, although I had more time with the 2GB model. Some observations:
1.) What happens when you need to install something that's only available via CD or DVD? Part two of that question, what happens if you don't have access to a computer with an optical drive to share over to the MBA?

4.) How do you run a presentation from the machine with an IR-base remote?
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm a big fan of the MBA, I was one of the first in line to buy one when the first generation came out and I made the 2nd generation MBA my "go to" mobile computer for well over a year. I've been very pleased with currently MBA, but it's not a jack of all trades and while it may be faster than my 13" MBP there are still scenarios that require features the MBP has 'standard' that the MBA does not offer or requires more $$ to implement.
My initial comment about "sluggish" performance was in respect to LightRoom3, Starcraft II, World of Warcraft and Adobe Photoshop CS5. I'll absolutely agree that equalizing the RAM would definitely help to level the playing field but thus far in my testing with the 13" MBA @ 4GB versus the 13" MBP @ 4GB there's still some noticeable difference in favor of the MBP.

New MacBook Air 2014 Wi-Fi Problems

Today I've got my new MacBook Air 13", my old one (mid 2012) has been broken.
With my old one (with Mavericks installed), I had no problems with my wi-fi at home.
I haven't changed a thing, but my new one is not capable to connect.
So I tried from WPA2 to no protection - just to test it -, because after entered the password it always prints: timed out (Zeitüberschreitung).
But with no protection it also doesn't work. :/
Has anyone got an idea?
WLAN - Specs:
Signalstrength: FULL (the router is just 4 meters away).
Router: Netgear WGT624 v3 (with latest firmware)
SSID is not hidden, Channel is 6, Mode is "auto" which means (b+g).
Protection is WPA and WPA2 (tried only WPA2, does not work)
Access Control is turned off - until I get the MBA back into it
DHCP is enabled
Other devices like Android Smartphones (Android 4.x) and HP Printer (Deskjet 6840) work
MBA - Specs:
Out of the box
Downloaded the latest update for Mavericks (10.9.3) and installed (other PC and USB-stick)

Did it that way. Everything is fresh again in Network Configuration Window.
But it still does not connect.
Another thing I tried now: I started the network assistant. After selecting and entering the password, it says: password wrong. But it is not, definitely. (changed it to a little bit easier one on the router for a test, same error message).
So I've got two different error messages:
When I select the WLAN out of the AirPort-Symbol and then enter the password, it says: timelimit reached (Zeitlimit überschritten)
When I use the Network Connection Window and start the assistant the error message is: wrong password (Falsches Passwort).
Tried also with static ip and DHCP (both works on the router with other devices and both has worked also with the old MBA). Same two error messages. I have no other WLAN to test it today.
Is there a way on the console so I can see all of the output? Maybe the Windows hiding messages from me ... I'm wondering about the two different error messages.

I went into my local Apple store on Friday morning with the intention of buying a new MacBook but none was available not even to see. I have been checking every day and of the 14 April still none are in store. I do not wish to order on-line because I'm not sure what colour I will go for until I actually see it in the flesh so to speak. It's very poor customer service that models are not available for purchase in-store! No-one at the store could confirm when they are likely to have any even for viewing...

New Macbook air 2014

I just bought a configured Macbook air with 8Gb from an APR store an supposed it was a 2014 model since it had a 1,4GHZ processor. to my surprise i enter the system information and it tells me i have a Mid 2013 model??? why is that??

The specs are as follows :-
Intel Core i5 @ 1.6 ghz
64 GB SSD
Intel integrated HD graphics 3000
2 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 288 MB
Mac os x 10.7.1 Lion
I also tried my Sims 3 game, but it did'nt run, it used to stop responding when I was just getting them into the lot.

Could you make the short answer longer for me? I am dying to play Sims 2 again after a year of abstinence. However, I also have only a maxed out 11" MBA mid 2011 now. I used to play Sims 2 on a Windows machine, so now I would need to buy all games a second time for Mac (which is quite expensive). Don't want to do that without being sure that it is actually "playable".
I honestly do not want to install Windows on my Mac because its space is limited anyway and I do not need Windows for anything else.
So you know for sure that Sims 2 is only available for Power PC?

Downloaded cd book to old macbook iTunes. can sync to iphone when connect to old macbook but erased when sync phone with new macbook air. how do i get the cd book onto the macbook air?

NEW MACBOOK AIR WONT RECOGNISE EXTERNAL HD NOW !

Well, I am almost on the verge of giving up - not only will this new MACBOOK AIR not link to the AIRPORT it also wont open my external hard drive with all my back up data on it.
I am in despair , I cant see the external hard drive in Disc Utilities , (its plugged into the mains ) and I am feeling less than impressed with this new machine - nothing works on it at all and I just cant recover anything from my back ups - we have the need for backing up drilled into us so why when I do everything I should, does this new machine not respond - the old one has no problems at all but I need to run a network now .
Can anyone help at all ?

You didnt mention that initially, if the data on the HD came from a PC, then the HD is likely NTFS formatted and cannot be used with your Mac.
Youll need another HD and format same in EXFAT for read/write from/to both PC and MAC, however if you plan on using time machine with your Mac, the drive will need to be formatted in Mac OSX ext. journlaed (HFS+).
Please specify what your "older machine" is?

if your older machine is a Mac, then it is likely that the WD software in conjunction with Mavericks has caused data corrupted (as in the links mentioned above).
If your older machine IS a PC, then the HD has likely failed OR MORE likely the SATA bridge card has failed.

New macbook air can't detect huawei 353

I had bought recently these two USB Dongles (Huawei 353 and 357 models) of Smartbro of Smart Telecom Philippines and Globe Tattoo of Globe Telecom Philippines... these two recently was active and functional when I was using it in my old MacBook Air 4,1 using OS Lion. But now when I purchased new MacBook Air 5,1 (configured to higher specs) using OS Mountain Lion plug the device with the 3.0 port of my new MBA it won't detect nor appear as icon on the screen. I already tried two dongle devices one at a time and wait to be detected but to my dismay...NO DEVICES DETECTED... Kindly help anyone... Im still looking and dowloading some (software) drivers for these DEVICES- install/uninstall to my MBA 11 Mid 2012 esp. its hardware 3.0 USB port compatibility issues. To my eager, I already plug these two DONGLES DEVICES in my IMac 21.5 Mid 2011 using OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 upgraded from OS X Lion 10.7 and the result with no hassles the DEVICES were DETECTED and INSTALLED smoothly.
Hoping that this drawbacks (problems) will be given attention by the MAC people concerns...otherwise it will not be responsible or reasonable to own some gadgets with INCOMPATIBLE issues in OS X..

Loading Adobe Photoshop on my MacBook Air (2014) without an optical drive

My lab at the University already has Adobe Photoshop. I am wondering how do I download it on my new MacBook Air (2014) without an optical drive.
Another query is about the usability of photoshop on MacBook Air. Mine is a 1.4Ghz, 128gb, 8mb (RAM) MAB. I am not a heavy user of Photoshop, but I need it once in a while for improving images from experiments. These images are mostly kept in a dropbox. I am wondering if the above specification sufficient.
