Where are my Screen shots going?

I know how to make a screen shot but I can't locate them.  Where do they go?

Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box, other solved threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • Where are my screen shots landing?

I haven't used the apple screen shot function in some time. When I take one it isn't landing in the folder I used to have it assigned to. It also isn't on the desktop. I hear it make the click sound when I use it. How can I track down where it is ending up, or at leas specify its landing spot from here out?
    Thanks.

The default location is your Desktop, but another logical place to look would be your Pictures folder. If it's not there check Downloads and Documents.
    It must be somewhere.
To specify the location you want use Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.screencapture location (type your fully qualified location and press the return key.)
For example, to change its default location ~/Desktop/ to your Pictures folder,
    defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~/Pictures/
You have to log out and back in again for the change to take effect.
I do not know of any other method.

  • Where are my screen shots

I have not been able to locate any of my screen shots. Neither the "shift contol command 3 or 4" will appear. My previous mac sent them to the desktop. I have used Command space in order to search, along with searching my "Drop box" folder as per suggested in a previous discussion.

If you add the Control key to those screenshot hotkey sequences (ie, Shift-Control-Command-3), then you will save the resulting screenshot to the clipboard, so it can be directly pasted into an email, to a new Preview document, or to another location that supports pasting image data.

  • Where does my screen shot go with 10.6 (it use to go to desk top, but now I can't find them)

Before I upgraded to 10.6, if I took a screen shot (either command, control, shift 3 or 4) the image was placed on the desktop.
Now I don't know where it goes..
What was so simple and straightforward is now multi step. I use computers as a tool I am not a 'geek' and don't understand all the lingo.
    Thanks

Taking a screen shot with command - control - shift 3 or 4 will put the screenshot onto the clipboard.  To save the screen shot to the desktop do command - shift 3 or 4. (no control key)

  • Where are my encoded assets going?

I created a DVD in iDVD 7.1.2 and after the disc burned, I saved an archive file. I checked to "keep encoded assets" with the archive file. However, when I open up the archived project file, I still have to encode the assets again. Everything works fine, but I have 4 videos on the disc and am trying to just change one and not have to re-encode the other 3 videos as well.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Jamie

The default location is in the Pictures/Screenshot folder.  You can change the location to wherever you'd like with a command in the Terminal application.  These websites describes how:
Change the Screen Shot Save File Location in Mac OS X
Quickly Change OS X's Default Screenshot Format and and location.
Changing the Screenshot Capture Location - Mac|Life
If you want to change the format of the screenshot from the default .png to some other like jpeg  the second link describes that.

  • Where are the response files going?

    Hello.
I know someone who created a form in Acrobat software and has chosen to distribute the software in acrobat.com. What she did was the sent out emails where people has open access to the file and but once the form has been completed, she sometimes received the response in her response PDF file in her desktop but most of the time she doesn't. People who submitted the form has been informed that their "response has been submitted" but she doesn't receive a response. Is there anyway to retreive all the response files that are shared through acrobat.com individually? Where in acrobat.com are the responses stored and how can she retreive them?
Many thanks and more power to acrobat.com development team.

    Hello,
Thank you for your post. Any chance you could have your friend send us some additional information? We'd need to know her acrobat.com account name as well as what document is causing the trouble...
    Kind Regards,
    Michelle

  • Where do the screen shots go?

I have been using capture of selections of my screen (cmd-shift-4) for years, with thecreated image file showing up on my Desktop, but suddenly there was a corruption in the Finder and now when I try to capture a selection I get the message that the directory is not writable. I have been trying to find where this destination directory is set and have not succeeded. I don't even know which application handles this (it is not "grab").
Can anyone shed any light on this subject?
    thanks,
    Micheal

I found that the Desktop folder had mysteriously migrated deep inside my Pictures folder. I copied the entire Desktop tree to my home directory and deleted the tree inside my Pictures folder. The Apple screencapture utility still wants to send its output to the Desktop folder where it had migrated. I can make the error message disappear by creating another Desktop folder in the same location inside the Pictures folder, but that is not the point. I want the screencapture to put things in my real Desktop folder.
I have examined the preferences with prefsetter and find that for com.apple.screencapture there is but one preference to set, and that is the type of graphics file to create....

  • Where are my GB's going?

I started using the Photos app last weekend. Before I started importing pics in the app, I had 700 gigabytes of space on my iMac. After importing about 25 GB of pics I have lost 300 GB of space. What's going on?  I notice the same problem after I uploaded these same pic on the iCloud. On the cloud I have 8,000 pics and it's using over 40GB of space. What's eating up all of space?

When I check the properties of the C drive it says I've used 202GB, but when I open the C drive, highlight everything inside, and check the properties, it says that the files are only taking up 165GB.
202 vs. 165 seems like a large difference.  Could someone explain what causes this?
    Thanks.
Several ideas off the top of my head:
    1. File fragments.  Try a comprehensive defrag using a third-party tool such as jkDefrag or PerfectDisk 10.
    2. Backups/restore images--Windows is often set up to make periodic backups and restore points; for example, a restore point is created by Windows Updater before it makes any changes to your system.  You can clean out these restore points using the Disk Cleanup utility (which you always should before you defrag).  Running CCleaner (available online for free) will also free up a lot of temprorary and unnecessary files and can clean up unused registry entries.
    3. Paging/hibernation/system files--Again, if these are very fragmented, you may be losing quite a bit of hard disk space.  Disable both when defragging to free up unmovable files.  If you have a program that will run a boot-time defrag, run that as well to defragment the system files.  Keep in mind that disabling paging and hibernation are advanced tasks and not for a beginner or average user and will probably require an administrative account.

  • Where are my iCloud photos going, and where can I see them?

I recently upgraded my PC to one that can use iCloud, and I want to sync all of my photos. I wirry that I am losing photos, and I don't know how to view them in the cloud.

When you enable photo stream on your Mac, in imports photos currently in your photo stream.  However, photo stream only keeps photos for 30 days, even though up to 1000 photos will remain on your device until you delete them.  When you enable photo stream on your Mac, you will only receive photos added in the last 30 days, as the others are no longer in your photo stream.
If you want to get all your old photos on your Mac, save them to your camera roll (if they aren't already there) by opening your photo stream album, tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  Once they are in your camera roll, import them to your Mac as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Another option would be to create a shared photo stream containing the older photos and invite yourself (as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99).  Then check Shared Photo Streams in iPhoto>Preferences>Photo Stream and you will see this shared photo stream on your Mac.

  • Where is my screen shot?

It used to appear on my desk top, but since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I can't find it.

If you want to use the Terminal commands I described earlier, it will resemble this:
Last login: Wed May 22 12:33:44 on ttys000
    Johns-iMac:~ johngalt$ defaults read com.apple.screencapture location
    2013-05-22 12:42:01.305 defaults[3611:707]
The domain/default pair of (com.apple.screencapture, location) does not exist
    Johns-iMac:~ johngalt$ defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~/Desktop/
    Johns-iMac:~ johngalt$ defaults read com.apple.screencapture location
    /Users/johngalt/Desktop/
    Johns-iMac:~ johngalt$
You will be typing the entries shown in red.
Quit the Terminal program when you are finished with it.

  • Where are all the MBPs going to that you send back ???

    Hey all,
As the title says i was just wondering what Apple does with all the MBPs that were sent back....
How can i be sure, that a MBP that i order now is really new and not just an "old" one that is fixed.
I am afraid that i'll get a new looking notebook that is possibly 14+ days old and that was taken back....
    Hope someone can help me....

I would imagine they would be as well. There have been class action suites in the past against companies who have sold used and returned products as new, so I doubt about would attempt to do this.
I would say this is where they end up..

  • Pre - Where are my e-mails going?

I have pretty basic work e-mail service using POP3 servers.  I have my Pre configured to leave e-mails on the server so they can all be downloaded to my office desktop.
I just noticed that when I have read an e-mail on my Pre but choose to save it by just leaving it in my inbox, the e-mail automatically disappears (as in not even in the trash folder) once the e-mail is downloaded on my desktop (and thus removed from the POP3 mail server) and I then next get e-mail on my Pre.  It seems that if the message is no longer on the server, the Pre just deletes it from the phone.
Curiously, this does not happen with e-mails in the trash folder, which must annoyingly be deleted one at a time.
Is there some way to solve at least this situation?  I like to keep some old e-mails in my inbox on my Pre as reminders of tasks I need to complete.  If they're going to self-delete, however, this obviously won't work.
I really can't believe the enormous step backward I have taken by "upgrading" from a Treo to a Pre!  Very disappointing, to say the least.

This is odd, thank you for providing the link to your email setup. But this should not be happening on the device. I have a pop email setup as you do but it does not do this. At this point this is an error on your device. We need to delete the account and recreated it. When you remove the account do a restart on your device. Then add it back on to your device and see if this issue keeps happening.
If it does you may need to Partial/Full erase the device.

  • Where are my desktop icons going?

Everyone once in a while, usually after long battery use, my desktop icons disappear. The only way to get them back is to restart. Anyone experience this? I'm running 10.6.2 with all updates.

I get that sometimes when moving moving my MacBook from work (where I use an external display in addition to the built-in display) to home (built-in display only). I think Finder misses the display change event, and still thinks that I'm using both displays.
Relaunching Finder fixes it. Option-Control-Click on Finder in the Dock, and select Relaunch. Not perfect, but not as big as restarting the OS.
