Where did my songs go?

I am trying to get my song library (my own CDs, albums bought from iTunes) onto a new iPod, but only about half of it (mix of iTunes and my own CDs) moved over when I synced. The rest of the songs have an exclamation point to the right of them in the iTunes library on my computer. How do I get all the songs to sync?
I have backed up iTunes, but also have gotten an error message that not all the songs were backed up.

When you try to double-click a song with an "!", does a window appear asking, "itunes cannot find the song file, would you like to find it yourself?" or something like that. Manually find the song in the path I outlined above (or wherever you moved your songs to.) Or, alternatively, try dragging n' dropping the song onto the itunes library window, see if that works.
As for transferring content from your ipod onto your itunes, there are a lot of 3rd party programs on the Net you could use, sorry, I do not have the links for them. I, myself, use Yamipod. Waitaminnit....

That'll take you to a thread with Zevoneer's post, read it. It's very helpful.
Hope that helps!

  • Where Did the Song/Album Suggestions Feature Go?

what happened to the feature on the iTunes Store homepage that was in beta a few months ago that would suggest albums or songs based on your previous purchase history or library contents? my computer recently crashed so i had to upload all of my backed up music into my new iTunes library, but i assumed the feature would still be available. can someone tell me how to activate that, or did they get rid of it?

If you go to the bottom of the store page, below where you can set your store country, you will see:
    Turn Just for you on/off.
At least that's the case in the UK store.
Is that want you mean, or show/hide ministore from the view menu?

  • Where did my song titles go?

I recently burned a playlist of christmas songs, some songs imported from CD's, other songs downloaded. I burnt the CD as an audio CD. A couple of days later, I popped the CD into my computer and none of the information for the CD appeared nor did the title of the CD, which just appeared as Audio CD. iTunes attempted to get the info from CDDB. I don't think it should do this since the CD was burned using a playlist in iTunes. B.T.W. I've burnt several CD's this way and this used to work. As a matter of fact, of the 4 different playlists I burned onto CDs, one of the CDs does have the correct track information and title.
Does anyone know how to put in the track information automatically, from the playlist it was burned from? It's a real drag having to manually type in the information when I insert the burned CD.

No luck yet. Mainly I've been retyping the file names in manually. I do have an old backup on a firewire drive that runs iTunes 6.0.5 that I was thinking of running it to see if insertion of the CD burned with 6.0.5 has it track information come up.
I believe that this is yet another in the long line of bugs present in iTunes 7. Usually, Apple has a good track record with new releases and their updates. With the problems that I've had with iTunes 7 on both Window and Mac computers, I beginning to think the software guys at Apple have lost their edge.
I have a similar problem in the latest version of
iTunes7 (otherwise known as the Evil Bugridden
    iTunes!).
If I burn a playlist that is long enough to require
multiple cds, only the last cd to burn has the song
tiles and info. All the first cds play the songs but
only have "track 01, track 02..." If I try to "get
cd track names" for those cds iTunes says that it
does not have that information but that I can submit
the track names. But many of the songs are ones that
I bought on iTunes! so I know that iTunes has the
    information.
I think it is a problem in the burning with iTunes 7
but I have no idea of the solution. Have you had any
    luck?

  • Where did the songs in my Itunes library go?

I had songs in my itunes library that I have brought over from my pc. In other words, these are not songs purchased in the itunes store.
Anyway, I connected my wifes Ipod to my mac to try and add the song on my mac to her ipod. Not sure what I did but somewhere I selected add manually, then dragged and dropped the songs in the mac library to the ipod symbol.
Some songs trasferred but I got a message that over 100 songs could not be located because they were not in there original location or something to that effect.
When I finished the transfer and went back to the mac list, those 100 songs were gone.  They are not in trash. They are not in the ipod. They are not in the mac i tunes library.  Just gone. I've done searches using Finder but no luck.  Gone.
No I don't have time capsule set up. Could never get that to find set up properly...
    Any suggestions?

one last thing: I'm also getting this problem here too:

  • Where did the songs go?

Downloaded songs to itunes library and then clicked on them and it says" file can not be found". Try to have the files found and now they are gone alltogether.
    Help please!!!

Well, im not too sure if I understand, but are you saying that when you searched for the file it got deleted? Try this:
Search for the song files on the computer to see if they're still somewhere in the computer. You know, go to the Start menu and go to Search. Type in the name, or part of the name, of one of the songs you lost and search for it. If a music file (most likelty a .m4a file if you bought it on itunes) shows up with the name of the song, right click the file, and click "Open file containing folder" and it should lead you to the rest of the files and the location of where you need to import the songs from.
That is, of course, if your using Windows... That's about all i can think of to help your problem.

  • IPod Nano appears on my list of iTunes devices. Summary tab shows 928 manually managed songs; music tab however shows nothing. Where did the songs go?

I recently undated software all around, reloaded windows 8 and upgraded to windows 8.1.  My iPod Nano (1.0.4) appears on my list of iTunes (11.1.3) devices. The summary tab for my iPod shows 928 manually managed songs (2 of 8 GBs still empty).  However, when I click on the music tab immediately to the right of the summary tab, iTunes no longer shows my songs, playlists or audio books.  Instead iTunes invites me to "sync" my iPod and kiss my contents goodbye. Why won't the songs appear in iTunes anymore?  My iPod still plays the songs and they appear on the tiny iPod screen.   iTunes however won't show them. iTunes still allows me to drag and drop new music and books into my iPod but iTunes won't let me see the particulars.  I want to delete some audio books I've finished but iTunes won't let me to them.  What gives?

Thanks iPodmaven for showing me how to check the arrow to the right of the device image and convert it into a inverted triangle.  Problem solved!  Thanks

  • Where did my songs go from my cd import?

    Hi,
I have just imported over 30 cds.  Now when I looked at the albums in the library only some of the songs are listed, most often it's the first few tracks.  I tried importing a cd again and had the same thing happen.  One of the other threads suggested logging in and out, which I have tried with no success.
Any help would be much appreciated.

try playing one of the missing songs in itunes for a few seconds. do you get asked to authorise? if so, and if you do, do the songs transfer to the ipod next time you sync?

  • Where did my songs come from?

I've just downloaded the new itunes and have acquired all these new songs (if that's what you can call them?) in my music library??? Some of them are just titles and have running time of 0:00??? How do I get rid of them?
    Dallas (-:

When iTunes is first ran, it searches for any music files on your hard drive (HD) and adds them to iTunes.

  • My iphone says I have 331 songs but only 139 can be played...where did the others go? How to get them back?

The songs disappeared from two computers and are grayed in on my iphone...I cannot play 192 songs...how to get them back or how to delete them from my phone so I can start over?  I do not want icloud...I synced my phone to the computer and everything was fine for awhile...where did the songs go?

Because it says it's incompatible when it can't be, I got hope. I get error messages all the time with my iPod and iPhone that it cannot sync and that 'this device is not capapble of connecting to iTunes' stuff. I literally forget that happened, plug it in again and it works, I later realize that iTunes made a mistake, they do that.

  • Where did these tracks come from?

I was helping a friend hook up his IPOD. His IPOD was given to him by a friend. ITUNES was already on his PC.
When I connected the IPOD, ITUNES started "converting" a bunch of songs from one format to antoher. It took so long I had to cancel it. But already there were about 10 albums that had been "converted" and now appeared in his library.
I just assumed these were songs from his IPOD. But when I browsed the IPOD using the ipod screen, it shows up empty.
    (1) Where did these songs come from?
    (2) How would I get the rest of the songs, wherever they are?
(NOTE FYI -- I also am having a problem updating, can't update ipod, option is greyed out. I tried "restoring" the ipod, no help. I didn't do a reset because I did't know how. I will when I return)

I'm always willing to be proven wrong, but to my understanding iTunes will under no circumstances add music from your iPod into the library on the PC. There is no supported way to move music from the iPod to the PC.
There are, however, 3rd party applications that will do this.
As for where the imported music was coming from, my guess would be an existing Mp3 or wma music collection the person had on their PC. If itunes searched the pc for music when it first was installed, and found files not in .m4a format, it would convert them and import them into the library.
What are the tracks? It could have even been importing the sample music or system sounds that come with windows, I suppose.

  • HT4972 I was downloading $15 worth of iTunes songs from a gift card when my iPod died. Now, no credit & no songs on my iPod. Where did either my $$ go or my songs that I paid for disappear? How do I get one or the other?

I was downloading $15 worth of iTunes songs from a gift card when my iPod died. Now, no credit & no songs on my iPod. Where did either my $$ go or my songs that I paid for disappear? How do I get one or the other? I have 2 of the same iPod's and logged onto both with the same as well as different apple ID's and passwords to each respective iPod and the completion of my downloaded songs has disappeared into thin air. Where did it go? How do I get the credit too re-download those songs to the correct iPod? Please help me!! [email protected]

What happens when you try to redownload them?
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
On a computer go to iTunes>Store>View Account>Sign in and go to purchased history and see if you actually purchased them.
    Try redeeming the card again

You can only sync with one computer. When you synced to the new computer it would have erased it and synced what was on the new computer.
You always need to have a backup, an iPhone is not a storage device.
When you get a new computer you need to transfer your library before syncing
If you don't have a backup you may be out of luck
The only thing would be if you're in the US and have access to the iCloud beta to reload purchases
