Where do I begin?

1) I have a table full of data
2) I have an XML schema
3) I need to get the data from the table and put it into an XML file that conforms to the XML schema.
4) I don't want to write a ton of PL/SQL to manually output the XML.
There are so many products, languages, and technologies related to Oracle and XML that I don't know where to begin. There doesn't appear to be any whitepapers that
can help someone with my problem.
There must be some sort of mapping utility where I can map table columns to an XML schema.
Can anyone please help me?
Adrian Klingel

Thanks very much to the both of you, that helps out alot.
I found the XSQL Utility and have been perusing it, as well as the 9i XML DB functionality.
There is one problem I'm having with the XSU documentation. It explains that there are three types of customization that can occur to get data from the database to XML format:
1) Source Customization (i.e. creating a view or a set of object tables which resemble the XML Schema structure)
2) Post-Generation Customization (Registering and using an XSLT)
3) Mapping Customization - Mystery?
Naturally, the mapping customization was the one I was looking for when I found this document. The documentation goes on to state that some of your options are:
a) change or omit the <ROWSET> tag
b) change or omit the <ROW> tag
c) specify the case for the generated XML element names.
What is insane is that the document does not go on to describe how any of these things are accomplished! It simply states that they can be done.
I don't know if that is what I want or not, but I'm starting to gravitate toward option 1.
Thanks for your help!
Adrian

I have an IPad and would like to sync it to my IPhone 4S. Where do I begin?

You can use iCloud to sync something's between the two devices. Stuff like contacts and calendar entries come to mind. For most content though, getting the same items on each device entails that iTunes on a computer be used to store the content and then syncing each device to the computer running iTunes.

I made a temporoary website on wordpress with my pc -- now I want to see what is possible with this G5 and Pages '08 by bro gave me.

The current version is iLife '11. iWeb is up to v4 and I think has been out since 2007.
There is no iLife folder, the applications are loose within the Applications folder.
You can purchase a boxed version of iLife from Apple or an Apple reseller.
The Mac App store does not offer iWeb and you would need OSX 10.6.6 to use the App Store.
If you began your website using WordPress, why not continue to use it, it does not matter what system you are on, Windows, Mac or Linux, WordPress is web based.

  • I would like to update a 2008 I mac , where do I begin

I would like to update my IMac 2008.  Where do I begin?

Sure. First purchase the Snow Leopard DVD from Apple's Online Store. Upgrade your system to Snow Leopard then download the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 updater and install it. You can now open the App Store application, sign into the App Store with your Apple ID to purchase and download Lion. With Lion installed you can now use iCloud.

Before you install Snow Leopard please see the following:
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
    E. If updating:
    Download and install update(s)
    Use Software Update, or
    Download standalone updater(s).

  • IMac Client Reports "Bluing" Of Windows. Where Do I Begin?

    Dear Friends
I have a client who just bought a 24" iMac. I set up his iMac for him by transferring his files from his iMac G5 to the new machine with Apple's Migration Assistant. I then ran approximately 400MB's worth of updates, including the firmware update, which I successfully applied (at least according to the machine after the subsequent reboots).
My client, a very experienced and long-time Mac user with a PhD is business administration, reports:
This new computer is really, really strange. Many things that I
open (iTunes, Entourage for example), will turn baby blue and
show the name of the app in grey. I have to click again to do
anything. Sometimes I'm not fast enough and it turns blue again.
After I sent the previous e-mail, I was trying to delete some
other older e-mail. The background picture kept "flashing"
light and dark. Then when I clicked again on Entourage, it went
light blue. It took two more clicks before I could highlight
the e-mails that I wanted to dump.
However, when editing an image after each change I made, the
image would turn blue and show it's name. During that time I
could do nothing. Sometimes I was fast enough to click the blue
away and do some more with the eraser before it turn blue
again; sometimes it would come back before I could make another
change. (The blue is transparent, so I could still see the
    scanned image.)
The same thing occurred in iTunes when I was creating a file to
burn for my daughter. Sometimes I was fast enough to move two
    items and sometimes not.
I can't think of where to begin to help my client. Any suggestions are very, very welcome!

I can't offer a solution, but I've seen the situation you're describing. I've had it happen to my 17" core duo iMac several times. It's usually associated with dragging a file between windows. I've wondered if OS X has some kind of gesture recognition built in. I remember reading something about it in an application manual but I don't recall the context.

  • Where should I begin? Not Technical really.

I maintain a website for a company that creates popUp displays for trade shows. Here is a link http://www.displaystar.com. I am pretty advanced in Flash and AS3, so I'm planning to make a utility for visitors to the website where they can take their picture(logo) and choose a few options and this will generate a render of what their display could look like.
I'm not sure even where to begin with distorting an image to fit a wave style display. We make renders often with maya, but we don't need flash to look THAT good, just an idea so people don't keep making basic mistakes like making their text unreadable. Our designers would appreciate it and I think it was be a fun project. Can anyone give me some advice on using 3d or distorting images in Flash. I just want to put flat designs and dynamically slap them on these fabric displays! :-) thanks for any help!
If you go to Gallery on displaystar.com you will get an idea of what I'm talking about.

the displacementmapfilter is very flexible.  it's not easy to understand for most people, however so you may want to sacrifice flexibility for something simpler to use like the distordimage class.

  • Where do I begin with the making of an MP3 player?

I would like to create a mp3 player, and have researched and discovered i need JMF, which i have now downloaded and installed. But i do not know where to begin with the coding of the MP3 Player. Any help would be appreciated.

One problem, (I think) Sun had to drop MP3 support from Java because of some legal issues. You may need to head in the direction of JNI.

  • Troubleshooting -Where do I begin?

    Hello:
Not sure where to begin to try and figure out what is wrong with my MacBook. I consider myself "technically challenged" since I have no experience with operation systems, hardware & software issues... it's all foreign to me.
Is there a place to begin, a series of steps to take to get my MacBook running smooth again. I know there are many resources and applications to diagnose problems, but I'm overwhelmed with it all and am afraid of starting something that gets me in deeper trouble. I want to educate myself and if I just know where to start, I'll spend time learning whatever I need to. I just need direction of how and where to start. I want a thorough diagnosis to clean up my system and check for any corruption. I downloaded "CleanAp" but for some reason the file is empty and I have no idea what happened to it. There seems to be a lot of glitches and I don't know where to begin to describe them -- I just get lots of weird sounds with almost anything I open anymore. Will I ever get my MacBook clean again? I'd appreciate any advise. thanks so much. Ellen

Yes, I understand the difficulty of helping without the symptoms. I guess I was hoping for a program that would test my entire system to get me started.
There is a loud noise (like an airplane taking off) even when I have only one or two applications open. It especially happens when I use Word. My screens often freeze. I've lost the dictionary/thesaurus widget (it doesn't work). I've tried a lot of the downloads and widgets from the Apple website and podcasts which may create some problems so I try to delete them but not all of the stuff gets deleted. I may accidentally delete an application or move them around as I try to figure them out. I am unable to get into NetInfo Manager. I think that was the utility I oepned the other day that showed other users on the server. I thought it was strange how I saw my user name as well as 5 or 6 others and some information was available such as the clue to my password. I thought it was odd and wonder if they can see this too. Now I can't get in.
I think I will go to the various troubleshooting (MacOS x 10.4 Tiger etc...) resources available and work my way through until I figure out what I've done wrong. Thanks for your help. Ellen

  • Xcode, Where do I begin

So Im a old PC user trying to learn my mac. I got the basics of applescript down but as easy and useful as it is its not my cup of tea. What I really wanna learn is java. and Not Web Java. I mean Application Java. Problem is I know nothing of java. I actually avoided learning it. C++ was my poison on the PC and now it is useless to me. At Least for the time being. What is the type of java I should be learning. Any Good Tuts? IM so lost here...

I guess I'm a little puzzled by your narrative. It's plays a little like "Well I just moved to Detroit from Santa Barbara and I've finally decided to get serious about surfing". But I've certainly seen more puzzling business plans in this forum, so I'll do my best to help.
Firstly, I don't understand why C++ is now useless to you. OS/X is very friendly to C based development, and the primary development tool, Xcode, is especially well suited to C, C++ and Obj-C projects. In fact you can generally mix all three in the same source file. For me, the most fun of all is building both OS/X and iPhone native apps with Cocoa, which is a UI+ framework programmed in Obj-C. Xcode's companion resource editor is called Interface Builder (IB), and it's so much fun I feel guilty about using it. Though Xcode supports a variety of targets and languages, I think Cocoa development is where it really shines.
Anyway, maybe the above will help explain why I did a double take reading that you decided to get into Java after getting a Mac. That said, you can certainly learn Java on a Mac just as well as on a pc. Xcode supports Java dev but it's not the first choice of many Java programmers. So if you want an IDE designed for Java you might look at the third party Java tools that run on OS/X (e.g. Eclipse). Of course you can also learn Java the old fashioned way from the Terminal command line. One school of thought contends you should always start learning a new language from the command line since an IDE hides too many things you need to know about how the pieces fit together (And one thing we can say about Java: There certainly are a lot of pieces).
I would also never consider starting a new language without a good book. Several of the beginning Java books require a particular IDE, so make the decision about a book before getting any software. If you type Java into an online bookstore search bar, you'll have enough to read for a few hours. Then, if you live within a 100 miles of a good bookstore, I'd recommend browsing for the book that feels right. Just remember that if the book requires an IDE, it needs to be one that runs on OS/X. After that, go home, stay offline for a few weeks, do all the projects in the book and put Java on your resume. Oh.. and stay away from Cocoa while you're studying Java, since you might not want to do anything else once you try it.
    Hope that helps!
