Where do imported files reside?

I'm sure this is an incredibly basic "newbie" question but I can't find a clear answer anywhere, so I'd be grateful for any feedback.
When you import a file (video, graphic, image, audio) into a Premiere project, does it copy the data or does it simply create a pointer to wherever the original data resides?  For example, if I have a video clip file on my hard drive that I import using the media browser, and then subsequently move or erase the file, will it still be available for use in Premiere?
Thanks!
Cdk

CDK,
As Jim and Stanley have pointed out, the Project file (.PRPROJ) is basically an XML "database" file. It can be opened in programs, like WordPad, and viewed/edited. It is ONLY the links to the media (in their location, as of the last Save/Save_As/Save_As_a_Copy). They cannot be "played," nor can they function in totality, should the media files become totally unavailable. If you transmit a Project file to a client, or co-worker, you will have to also ship all media files, plus they will have to have a compatible edition of PrPro installed. If these conditions are present, they can then re-link the media files, should the drive letter, the folder, or the folder structure be different. Should the media files be totally unavailable, the Project file is basically useless.
All too often, people will ship these, or very similar from other NLE's, and the recipient will be at a loss as to how they can do anything with that sort of file. The forum is littered with posts on "how do I play a .PRPROJ file," or "how do I play a .PREL (PE's version)?" The answer is, you cannot. You can edit with it, only if you also have access to the media.
Hunt
PS there are other issues, such as higher versions of .PRPROJ files with earlier versions of Pr.

  • Is there a way to find where you imported files from?

I imported a batch of photos from a wedding. Edited them all, and then I moved the original files from their native folder. This created the "This file is offline or missing" dialogue. I tried moving the files back but with no luck. I think I just forgot where they were originally at.
So, my question is, is there was a way to find out which folder you imported the files from so I can put them back in place and export them without losing a weeks worth of edits?
    Thanks,
    Cody

If you left click on the question mark it will throw up a dialogue (a) advising you that the file is missing (b) show you the last location it was located and (c) offer you the option of pointing LR in the direction of where the image can be found. Often, when LR is given the new location for one image it manages to do the rest.
The alternative is to right-click on the top level folder in the libraries left hand panel and choose 'locate folder'. Again, once the top level folder has been located LR usually updates the sub folders.
When moving folders etc around it is better to do this from within LR itself therebye preventing these sort of problems.

thankswhat is your oracle version and operating system name and version?
open command command prompt or terminal
give set command it will show you the path for bin directory
    eg: in windows
    Path=D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_2\bin
    in linux
    PATH=/u01/db/app/oracledb/bin
also check ORACLE_HOME/bin directory you can find.

  • Where do "clip" files reside?

I create an iMovie project and drag clips into the program, edit the clips and save the project. The clips seem to be saved with the name of the edit. For example, if I edit a clip called "Family.dv", it will be save with the name of the edit, such as "Brightness and Contrast.dv". These seem to be saved in a directory called Media. However, I cannot locate the directory "Media" either through Spotlight or any of the volumes. Where can I find the various clips used in the iMovie project?
    Thanks
    Herschel

    Hi Herschel
No it doesn't work that way.
Yes Your clips are save but in a manner that suits iMovie. If You make any
change to them - You are in deep trouble.
Your imported material is inside the project icon. You have to ctrl-click on
it and select show package and You will find folders and in one of them
    there they are.
BUT: When You cut a clip and rename it then ? The information where the
cut is and what name it has got is stored in a sort of manuscript. That's why
    iMovie and FCE/FCP is called non-destructive editing-programs. They don't
touch the original material just alters a lot of pointers to how iMovie now is
supposed to look on it. That also why when You throw away a 1Gb clip and
then emptying the wastebasket - You will not re-gain 1Gb memory but only
    some 100Kb.
Don't mess with the clips if You don't know much more about this than I do.

  • When I import files (copy from jpeg or copy as DNG from raw, where is the full size original stored?

I have the photos go here file, does LR5 put the untouched original there? Do I need my own file for originals and if so, how does LR5 know where to find the full size original? I have everything working but don't understand where my untouched originals go after import. Say I import off my card to My Pictures/Lightroom Catalog/ Photos go here ..... are my originals there? What if I erase my card now, do I only have partial size negatives basically? I don't understand why LR5 didnt put in an originals do here file that imports the full photo to a stock folder. I am so confused I am about ready to throw out LR5. I even bought your instructional DVD and it doesnt make where the original files location clear, it just repeats that LT5 does NOT import the original, just thumbnail and instructions, where is the program getting the photo when I double click to open it , or am I only seeing a lower resolution version of the photo and the full res is now gone because I formatted the card?

When you import photos, you can choose "Copy" or "Move" or "Copy as DNG", and then select a destination folder on your hard disk. This happens on the right hand side of the Import dialog box. So your original files go to this destination folder.
Alternatively, if your photos are already on your hard disk, you can import by choosing "Add" and the original photos remain in the existing location.
If you're not sure where the photos are, open Lightroom, go to the Library Module, and on the right hand side is the Metadata Panel. Set the dropdown to "Default", and it will show you where your photos are stored. Alternatively, you can right-click on any photo and select "Show In Finder"/"Show in Explorer" and Lightroom will take you to the exact folder where the photo is located.
So, bottom line, you are in total control of where the originals go, and if your forgot where you put them, or made a mistake, you can always find out where they are.
What if I erase my card now, do I only have partial size negatives basically?
If your import was successful, then the photos are now stored on your hard disk. So you have the full size original for Lightroom to work with.
it just repeats that LT5 does NOT import the original, just thumbnail and instructions
Lightroom does import the original, which means, in Lightroom jargon, that it records the location and metadata about the photo; in other words, Lightroom knows where the photo is, but Lightroom NEVER contains your photo, your photo is ALWAYS stored on the hard disk.
Because Lightroom now knows where your photo is located, it is important that you not manage your photos (move, edit, rename, delete) outside of Lightroom. Photo managements tasks now must be done in Lightroom. (There are advanced methods that let you manage your photos outside of Lightroom, but these would be NOT RECOMMENDED for beginners)

My old Macbook Pro (10.4) died and I need to locate from the HDD where Netscape mail data resides so I can import it onto my new laptop, any ideas where it is located? I have tried home/library/mail.

  • Where are my important files located in Leopard 10.5?

I had an old file from apple titled "Where are my important files located?" which applied to 10.3. I could not find this same doc for 10.5. It had the location of all the important files for safari, mail, address book, etc. and was handy when I was mirgrating files or backing up or so forth. Is there now an updated file/doc for this with regards to 10.5 Leopard? Or is every important file's location still located in the same location? Thanks

    Hi Teal,
I'm a big "foggy" on a lot of the OS X 10.3 "Panther" stuff but I think you'll find OS X 10.5 to be pretty similar in most regards.
As far as your user information, everything related to your user will be in the /Users/username location. The "Library" folder is probably the most important when it comes to application related data such as Safari, Mail, Address Book, iCal, etc. Some applications will have a folder directly inside the library folder (/Users/Username/Library/ApplicationName) and some will store data in the Application Support folder (/Users/Username/Library/Application Support/ApplicationName)
The important thing, is that all of your user data is stored in the /Users/Username location that will often be represented by a "House" icon when signed into that user.
Where it gets a little tricky, is some applications will store data in the /Users/Shared location and the /Library location. So if you ever do a total system migration there's a possibility you'll need to reinstall some applications. A Time Machine backup can assist with system migrations as it does a full and complete backup of your HD, including the User's home folder.

  • Exactly where are the files stored when imported off a camera into iPhoto ?

see subject line,,,, but when i use iphoto's ''iphoto'' to import files off a camera versus the ''image capture'' they do not appear anywhere in the picture folder, this does not make sense,,,image capture seems to dumb the files into the picture folder
and,,,,,i understand what iPhoto 08 does with the files that are imported into the library from the picture folder but where are iphotos library versions stored?????
also,,,,,i'm putting time and effort into organizing a ''''library'''' only to have none of those efforts taking effect on the folders and files in the picture folder - this seems odd this is like organizing a 2 sets of books in a library == 1 set you want the public to see and one set you what to keep organized in the basement for future storage and retrival and from duplication
i need convincing this makes sense and help on a better system

    alba123
You're confusing iPhoto with an File Manager. The Mac has one of those, it's called the Finder
When you organise things into albums and slideshows etc in the iPhoto Window there is no corresponding folders of images for each album. That would be a waste of disk space. Instead, each album is a virtual entity: in reality, a list of pics that you want to app to display together. So, no, you're not organising two sets of books, what you're doing is arranging the photos as you want them to be displayed while your assistant (the app) is looking after the files.
Events, however, are not virtual. Events in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library package file (Right click on it in the Pictures Folder -> Show Package Contents).
You can move photos between Events, you can rename Events, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Event Name using the Info Pane, the Event Folder in iPhoto Library/Originals will also have the new name.
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
So, think of it this way. You do your organising in the iPhoto Window. Let the application look after the basement.

  • How does the communication will happened between SOA-Composer(where DVM file resides) and EM console (Where composite resides)?

How does the communication will happened between SOA-Composer(where DVM file resides) and EM console (Where composite resides)?
And also i would like to how A business rule(Which will be resides in SOA_COMPOSER) will be communicated to Soa Composite(Resides in EM Console)?

whenever you deploy a new composite it gets stored in the MDS data
store, i.e. the metadata service and not the dehydration store (the
    SOAINFRA database).
Composer works directly with the MDS schema.
EM reads the same schema (MDS) to see what composite are deployed on the
    partitions.
All runtime instance data is stored in the SOAINFRA database.
    Hope this helps,

  • Where does my backup files reside in windows

I backed up my ipad (using iTunes) to my laptop (running Windows 7).  Where can I find the backup files?  Also, the ipad that I backed is no longer mine.  My wife has an iPad Air 2.  We want to get the content (especially the pics and videos) of the backup onto her iPad. Can we do this, even if the backup is from Tom's iPad, and my wifes ipad is Mary's iPad?

You do not have the ability to pick and choose certain aspects of the backup file to restore to another device. A restore is either all or none. You can purchase 3rd party software to open a backup file and try to remove some parts of it. The backup files is a special SQLite file that needs special software to read. It is really intended just to use to restore an iOS device if necessary.  However, this support document will tell you where your backup file is located on the computer. Many of these are hidden files, so make sure you have the ability to view hidden files switched on. If you can't back up or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using iTunes - Apple Support

You can get the folder or jar file from which a given class was loaded.
    URL source = getClass().getProtectionDomain().getCodeSource().getLocation();
    String filePath = source.getFile();

  • HT203167 The My locked Folder app is missing! I had all of my important files in here and now they are gone where did the app go?

I had all of my important file in my locked folder and now the app is missing and it is no longer available on the App Store.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
