Where does OS X save your Web Clip widgets?

Hi,
Does anyone know where Leopard saves your webclip widgets? They are not in user/library/widgets or in Mac OS X/library/widgets.
Thanks
S

Ok. My best guess is based on using Activity Monitor to inspect the process, and look at "open files and ports".
From this a candidate directory stands out to me:
/private/var/folders/<random characters>/-Caches-/com.apple.dashboard.client/
This has a cache.db that could be involved.

  • Why does Illustrator CS4 save pdfs with clipping paths and make rasters of gradient areas

I am on a IMAC and upgraded to 10.6.8 Jan 2014. I am using CS4 Illustrator to create with. When i save my work as a pdf then reopen the pdf in Ill to make changes, the whole page has:
A.) Multiple clipping paths around it
B.) Most text has now become outlined. Not editable anymore.
C.) Gradient areas have multiple clipping paths of the single gradient area
D.) The gradient areas now become rasterized.
This is very frustrating as now all of my marketing files, some 300+, are worthless. I don't know where to look anymore to find the problem.
    Please help.
    Thank you very much

    John,
I have the presets as you have shown. I had been editing the supplied items as you suggested. Then figured i should ask the questions of those who are better than I.
But still a bit confused as to why the new save places clipping paths around the document.
Thank you John and Monika for your help.

I do a save as "pdf" in the format pull down tab. I save to a folder on the hard drive. Where is the "Illustrator editability" check box? I presumed it is in Acrobat some where
but i seem to be lost.
It is in Illustrator's Save Adobe PDF dialog, which pops up before the saved file is written.

Sorry i didn't mention this, but this seems to have occurred when using images and text from provided pdfs.
That's a critical fact. If you didn't do the original save, the above is moot, and it's too late to exercise any control over the save process. Someone else failed to save for editability. The only thing you can do is clean up/repair the content, (release clipping masks, rebuild rasterized elements, expand objects, etc.), and save correctly as AI. Then, if necessary, re-save as PDF with the correct settings.

  • How to name & save a Web Clip?

I've been able to create a Web Clip Widget. However, I can't figure out how to give it a name and save it with the other Widgets on the Widget Bar.
If I open Dashboard the Web widget remains in place. I can move it but cannot save it. If I click the X in the upper right-hand corner of the widget it disappears and I can't restore it.
Am I wrong in assuming it can be saved.

Actually Web Clips are stored in the plist file:
    ~/Library/Preferences/widget-com.apple.widget.web-clip.plist
You can back up that file, but renaming it would of course make the Web Clip widget not read it.

  • Where does 3.0 save synched Notes on the computer?

Where does 3.0 save synched Notes on the computer?
    thanks

Solved now thanks to another discussion.
Attempting to sync brought up a message 'Syncing Notes' but I couldn't find them.
A terminal search revealed no sign of Notes.mbox in my ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes folder even after multiple sync attempts. I had a look to see if there was a Notes.imapmbox there as well, as IMAP mailboxes have a different suffix but that wasn't there either.
The poster advised taking the following steps (first make sure that you have Sync notes checked in the Info tab of iTunes:
    1. eject the iPhone from iTunes and disconnect it from the USB port
    2. force quit iTunes using Command-Q
    3. switch off the iPhone completely
    4. reboot the iPhone
    5. re-connect the iPhone via the USB port
    6. allow the sync to take place
I had my ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes folder open in a Finder window and shortly after the sync, up popped Notes.mbox. I still didn't see anything under Reminders in Mail but I selected Mailbox/Rebuild in Mail and now I have Notes available under Reminders. I have five active email accounts, each with a Notes folder available, but the one note I had left after losing all the originals during one of my sync attempts appears under On My Mac.
To be honest, now I have got it working, I'm not sure how much use it is so I doubt if I will use it. I had thought that it would sync via Mobile Me and that there would be a desktop application to go with the iPhone one, or it would be integrated into iCal.

  • Convert a web clip widget into an actual dashboard widget with Dashcode?

So, I have created a widget using the Safari web clip option. I want to make it a permanent widget & not have to recreate it every time I relaunch my computer. I know Dashcode is used to make widgets, but is there a way to take my web clip widget and save it/export it and import it into Dashcode and make it a true widget I can save and have in my dashboard at all times?
Or does Dashcode only allow for building a widget from scratch?
At this time, I see no place where my temporary web clip widget has been saved on the computer, so not sure where it is even living to try to import it?

    bump.. any help?
I have used some utilities to reveal hidden files and I cannot even find a hidden webclip widget of the widget I made... so I have no idea where its data is stored as it is not in either the root or users "widgets" directory. The webclip widget I made persist through relaunches of the computer, but is not an available widget in your dashboard to select from so if you close it, you have to go back and remake it.

  • Web Clip Widget Not Saving

I just upgraded from Tiger 10.4.11 to Leopard 10.5.6 (and then to 10.5.7 via Software Update). I tried to use the new Web Clip feature, to create a widget from part of a web page. Safari (v 3.2.3) has the scissors icon, and I am able to select a portion of a web page. When I click the Add button the clip appears in the Dashboard layer, and I can edit it, etc. But when I close the newly-created widget it simply disappears. It does not show up in the row of icons at the bottom of the (Dashboard) screen, nor does it show up in the "Manage Widgets" list--either before or after I close the widget.
The Web Clip widget (the one with the Safari icon that opens Safari if you click on that icon) is present, but I am unable to save a web clip as a new widget.
It has been a while since I added a widget from, for example, Apple's website. But I think I remember getting a message asking me if I wanted to save (or add, or some such word) the widget. I do not get this message when I try to create (and save) a web clip as a widget.
Apple's "help" says that widgets created from webclips stay ther until the user deletes them, but I am unable to get thim onto the list in the first place. Any suggestions?

The Mac Help is ambiguous: "A Web Clip widget remains in your dashboard until you remove it. If you remove a Web Clip widget, the only way to get it back is to create it again."
A "normal" widget shows up (when you press the + inside a circle at the lower left of the screen) in a line of widget icons at the bottom of the screen (as well as in the list you get by choosing "Manage Widgets..."). You may display the widget on the desktop or not, but the widget is not deleted if you dismiss it from the desktop.
This is not true of Web Clip widgets, at least on my Mac. A Web Clip widget does not show up in the Manage Widgets... list or in the line of icons at the bottom of the screen. And dismissing it from the desktop deletes it completely.
Is this what is supposed to happen?

  • How can I get back the Web Clip widget in Dashborad?

    Dear all,
I accidentally deleted the Web Clip widget together with the Web Clip.wdg in Library/Widgets/ folder by AppCleaner some time ago. Now I cannot use this function to clip content in pages. I have the widget icon in Safari and can crop the webpage without problems, but after I did this action, nothing appeared or happened in the Dashboard since the original web clip widget file is gone.
I would like to know where and how I can get back the Web Clip.wdg file so that I can perform the Web Clip function again?
I just saw a user who posted a similar topic on Dec 28, 2008 and his/her problem is solved. I have this same problem like his/hers.
I would appreciate if anyone can help me, thanks!

    Hi,
Thank you very much for your help.
I have tried to use Time Machine to get back the Web Clip but still couldn't, and very strange is when I click Time Machine, I can only choose Windows Applications as the back up disk but not Macintosh Applications, so I cannot restore anything from Macintosh applications.
I think the best is if anyone has this widget on their Mac and can kindly send it to me by e-mail?
I would appreciate it so much.

  • Dashboard Web Clip Widgets - "Time for an Update"

I have an issue with a dashboard widget that I created from the Safari button "Open in Dashboard" to create.
I used the widget on the following page:
    http://www.calottery.com/win/winning-numbers
The problem is, the widget displays a giant overlay:
Needless to say, it makes this particular web clipping completely unusable...

I would like to do this as well.
I monitor an internal web site that displays network traffic and it would be very convenient to do this as a web clip on the desktop.
Can someone tell us where the details for the Dashboard web clip are kept? Perhaps there are some additional properties that can be added to it from the back end that would get it to work. (A port number, 'https', credentials, etc.) It would almost be silly if it couldn't be done!

  • Web clip widget fails after upgrade to 10.5.2

I installed 10.5.2 last night and after the restart the web clip widget has refused to work. I work through the process in safari highlight the box and click apply but it does not appear in my dock. Anyone got any solutions to this problem I found it a very handy function

Hi tried that one this morning about the style sheet. So far I have
    Reset safari and the cache
    Run disk utilities
Deleted the preferences list for the widget
moved them all out and then re installed them
    restart numerous times.
Its a bummer this one, thanks though

  • Web clip widget out-of-range-of-display

    Hi.
I have created several Web Clip Widgets on my Dashboard. However, one of these widgets got positioned outside of the display, probably after I resized it and positioned it near the edge of the display. Whenever I launch my Dashboard, I would hear the video (the web clip is a YouTube video) being played back, meaning it is still on my Dashboard.
Is there a way for me to bring it back within my display, so that I could re-position it away from the edge of my screen? Or, is there another way for me to delete that widget? The widget doesn't show up even after I click on the "+" on the lower left corner of the Dashboard screen. All my other widgets show up with the "x" on each widget's upper left corner.
Thanks for any tips you can share with me!

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try deleting this file.
    com.apple.dashboard.plist
~/Library/Preferences. Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac.

  • Web clip widget from bbc radio - cannot delete it.

    Hi Community,
I have an issue with my dashboard - hope you guys can help me out:
I tried the web clip widget feature with a web player of bbc radio, but I never really made it work, so since a couple of weeks now I try to delete it again. When I try to access my Dashboard it instantly redirects me to a browser window with the cookie website (http://cookie.radioplayer.co.uk/cm/lp/s) of bbc.
As it instantly redirects me OFF the dashboard - I cant click on the - button below, nor am I fast enough to click alt and the X on the widget.
It also doesnt appear in the library/widgets folder, so Im screwed. -.-
    Someone with an idea?
Passively accessing the Dashboard - something like Safe Mode - is available? I mean accessing it without loading/updating the widgets?
    Thanks for the help
    Cheers
    Alex

    Hi Alex
I believe the BBC recently changed the way they code the radio widget, making it impossible to remain in the Dashboard. But, as you've found, the actual widget isn't in the Widgets folder.
The only way you can remove it is to trash your preferences. Go to the home Library folder, then Preferences, and trash com.apple.dashboard.plist and com.apple.dashboard.client.plist. Immediately reboot.
You might want to look at RadioAunty for an alternative way to access BBC radio stations.

  • Web Clip Widget Keeps Recentering Itself-Help!

I've been looking forward to the Web Clip widget in Leopard for ages as a means of efficiently having instant access to the playlist page at KEXP.org. I've made a widget centered on the self-updating playlist portion of the page at http://kexp.org/playlist/playlist.asp, but it won't stay centered on the proper area--I'm usually good for four or five trips to the Dashboard, but after awhile the widget always changes its own shape, becoming long and narrow and centering on the frame on the left side of the screen. I'm quite eager to stop this from happening and to center it exclusively on the playlist in the middle. Any tips on how I can make sure this happens every time would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Finding HTML behind Web Clip Widget

Is there anyway that I can find the HTML for a Web Clip Widget that I have made?

I'm not sure what you mean, but if you are looking for the URL of the page used to generate the widget, it's stored in the file:
    ~/Library/Preferences/widget-com.apple.widget.web-clip.plist
You can open that file with TextEdit, but I've not seen any documented way to manually edit it - so unless you know how to read the formatting, don't tinker with it. You can certainly highlight and copy the URL to the clipboard so you can enter it into your browser or as text elsewhere.

  • Creating Web Clip Widgets

is this possible in Safari 4?
I finally have a great use for it and I cant find it.
Ive search these forums and havnt really found anything about it not being in Safari 4.

    HI,
is this possible in Safari 4?
    Yes.
Open Safari and go to the webpage you want to make into a widget.
Choose File > “Open in Dashboard.”
Move the pointer around to select the portion of the webpage you want to make into a widget. When the portion is highlighted, click it.
If you like, reposition the highlighted portion by dragging it. To resize the portion, drag the round handles on its edges.
When you’re done adjusting the outline, click Add.
Dashboard appears, with the web clip displayed.
To customize the widget, move the pointer over its lower-right corner. Click the Info ( i ) button when it appears, and then select any of these options:
Theme: Choose a look for the widget.
Only play audio in Dashboard: If your widget is a sound or video clip, select this checkbox if you want the sound to stop playing when you close Dashboard.
Edit: To resize the widget or reposition the content, click Edit. Drag the content around to reposition it, and drag the Web Clip’s lower-right corner to resize.
A Web Clip widget remains in Dashboard until you remove it. If you remove a Web Clip widget, the only way to get it back is to create it again.
You can create as many Web Clip widgets as you want.
You can find these instructions in the Safari Help Menu.
