Where is /cgi-bin/ and who puts files in it?
One of my clients is trying to make a form work with /cgi-bin/mailto but I can't figure out:
1) Where is the global /cgi-bin/ supposed to be?
2) Who is responsible for putting files in it?
Thanks!
If you wan't to make the CGIs work server-wide, the default location is /Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables. The default web server setting already has a ScriptAlias directive pointing any address written as www.example.com/cgi-bin redirect to this directory. The global webmaster... the server administrator is responsible for all CGIs in this directory.
If you want to let each individual webmasters take care of their own CGIs, each website can override this by creating their own cgi directory within their own web directory. This directory can be named anything (e.g. "/scripts/"). Generic form-to-mail type CGIs are usually placed in the /Library/Web... directory for global usage, but if a script is only used by a single website, it's usually put inside their own web directory. You may want to tweak their httpd.conf file to assign this folder as the ScriptAlias target. When you do this, websites can execute the CGIs with the .cgi extension (i.e. pass the script on to whatever compiler/interpretor, like perl). Otherwise, you'll need to name each script like scriptname.pl or scriptname.c instead of scriptname.cgi.

I am trying to open space in my macbook hard drive, so I deleted files and after emptying the trash bin the amount of Gigs didn't increase, why? Where can I go and delete those files?
Did you do a secure empty trash? SHIFT COMMAND DELETE, they will be over wriiten. Are you deleting docs as they aren't much space, videos,pictures,music use much more space.
You can move those fiels to an external "archive" drive to save them then delete them from your internal drive. -
Where are my bins and clips?
I just transferred a project from fcp6 to fcpX using 7toX.
In fcpX, I can see all of my sequences in the browser, but not any of my bins or clips. I'm new to fcpX, is there some sneaky way to find my clips in the browser?
I'm pretty sure I did the transfer correctly. The XML dialogue indicated that it was transfering 100s of bins and 1000s of clips. Also in the fcpX Library Properties it indicates there is 3.3TB of media included in the Library. So then, where is it?
Thanks,
MatthewThere were a few random clips that made it into an "other" folder. but nothing else. All of my sequences are in the "sequences" folder.
Also, in the Original Media folder (in Finder), it looks like I have alias' for all of the footage in the project. So the XML did something. I just can't find it in FCPX -
Where are the FCPx and iMovie audio files located in fcpx 10.1
I updated to FCPx 10.1 a couple days ago and have now realized that none of the FCPX or iMovie audio files are showing up under the Music and Sound button. Does anyone know where they've run off to?

What is the relationship between CGI-Executables and cgi-bin?
I am trying to get CGIs working locally on my Mac and am having difficulty understanding the relationship between CGI-Executables/ and cgi-bin/.
I have activated CGI in my httpd.conf file, and have the following perl test script: /Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables/test.cgi file, and have the file permissions set appropriatly
If I call the script from the actual url: http://127.0.0.1/CGI-Executables/test.cgi, it doesn't work. If I use: http://127.0.0.1/cgi-bin/test.cgi, it works fine.
Why cgi-bin and not CGI-Executables? What is the relationship between /Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables/ and cgi-bin?
And how do I get CGIs working in individual users' Sites/ file? Do all CGIs go in the /Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables/ directory, or can each users' Site/ directory have it's own cgi-bin?
Ti Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.4)Now I am having trouble getting CGI to work in the user directories. I have a perl script that works for 127.0.0.1/cgi-bin/test.cgi, but not for 127.0.0.1/~joe/cgi-bin/test.cgi.
My apache error log says:
[Tue Feb 14 08:14:23 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] Options ExecCGI is off in this directory: /Users/joe/Sites/cgi-bin/first.cgi
Permissions for Library/WebServer/CGI-Exectuables/test.cgi and /Users/joe/Sites/cgi-bin/ are 777.
I think the problem is somewhere in my directory configs. Apache has so many, it's hard to know what's what.
Here's the first directory directives in httpd.conf:
# First, we configure the "default" to be a very restrictive set of
# permissions.
<Directory />
Options FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride Options
</Directory>
Farther down, there's this, which I added ExecCGI and index.cgi:
# Control access to UserDir directories. The following is an example
# for a site where these directories are restricted to read-only.
<Directory /Users/*/Sites>
AllowOverride FileInfo AuthConfig Limit
Options MultiViews Indexes SymLinksIfOwnerMatch Includes ExecCGI
DirectoryIndex index.html index.cgi
<Limit GET POST OPTIONS PROPFIND>
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Limit>
<LimitExcept GET POST OPTIONS PROPFIND>
Order deny,allow
Deny from all
</LimitExcept>
</Directory>
Then down at the bottom of the file is something I suspect was added automatically when the user account was created:
Include /private/etc/httpd/users/*.conf
<Directory "/Users/joe/Sites/">
Options Indexes MultiViews Includes
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
To further confuse things, there is another file /etc/httpd/user/joe.conf that has additional user-directory directives:
<Directory "/Users/joe/Sites/">
Options Indexes MultiViews
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
Is there something in all these directory configurations that is preventing the user from accessing cgi-bin? Can I add directives to an .htaccess file in the user directory.

Pointing ItunesU.class to a cgi-bin directory.
Our school is setting up an ITuneU page and we have successfully compiled the ITunesU.class file but for some reason our web server does not have a cgi-bin directory to put these files into. Can we put the Java files into a different directory or is cgi-bin required?
Our Itunes university is up and running.

Where can I find my iphone backup files in windows 7?
My computer died and all I have left is the hard drive. Fortunately it is in good working order and is readable. I successfully transfered all of my apps and music, but cannot find my pairing information. Consequently, I cannot sync my devices. Where are my iphone and ipad backup files located?
Hello Thom,
Good to hear that you are still able to recover information from your old hard drive. I found an article that provides the locations of the iOS backup files:
Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press theReturn key.
You can find the full article here:
iTunes: About iOS backups

I hope this helps get you back on track!

logic 8 - when I select audio in the audio bin and choose delete files - it seems to search ALL drives for many seconds before it deletes.... this should take 1 second - right? How do I fix this?
Sounds like your drives were asleep then - you can alter that in the *Energy Saver* prefpanel.
I don't think the delete function relies solely on the path stated in the bin - I guess it doublechecks the location using some OS X functionalities, that focus on the actual file, not it's path. After all, you can easily rename your disk (or any part of the path, for that matter) in the Finder while still working on a Logic project. It should still find all the right files...
If your disks are not asleep, it would be much faster I guess; they don't have to spin up, no data has to be written or read to RAM or caches, they're 'primed'. But I do guess - so disable sleep mode for your disks and see if that helps any.

I just accidentally wiped out my entire music library. I sent everything to recycling bin and then immediately hit restore all items as I knew what I had just done. Now I can find where those files went. Is there anyway Apple can just send me my purchased songs again?

The only thing to do to get the R3D files working is download a plugin pack with 2 files in it. one goes in your plugin folder the other in some other folder. I found both original files and replaced them with the new ones. I have rebooted twice... nothing. it won't recognize R3D files. The Camera is a Red brand Epic Dragon and it puts our R3D files. R3D's are easily manipulated in Redcine, but I can't add my .mov files on it so I need to be able to work with these files in PP.
I'm sad now
Good thing I have a PC with 32-bit windows!
Now, I can only assume apple is working on a 64-bit
fix? I suppose that info/ETA is on the itunes page,
I'll go take a look.
Who knows what Apple plans are? I do know that they do not discuss upcoming releases of anything until its available. -
I want to take files from my PC (using a Seagate external hard drive) then plug this Seagate External hard drive into my Mac Book Pro and move the files from the Seagate External Hard drive onto my Time Capsule. I do not want to put these files on my Mac. How do I do this? Where do I put these files on my Time Capsule? Will it affect the functioning of my Time Capsule?
Mixing files with data is not always great idea.
See info here.
Q3 http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Why not just connect the PC directly to the TC by ethernet and copy the files over?
It is hugely faster and much less mucking around.
In windows load the airport utility for windows.. if you have not already as this will help you access the drive.
There is more info here.

I'm using Windows XP and this issue just started this morning. For some reason my firefox crashed. I got everything fixed but now when I go the the top where it has "File Edit View History etc" and I put the cursor over it the word blanks out. It never used to do this and I can't work with it like this. I prefer Firefox over any other web browser. Please tell me how to change the settings so the word stays there when the cursor highlights it and doesn't disappear. Thank you.
Did you already reboot the computer?
