Where to add a For Loop?
Hi, I have got this Generator&Acquisition vi that saves digital data from a pickup signal and adds 10kHz to the driving signal when I press the "Save and add 10kHz" button. I would like to automate this so that I don't have to press this button for each sample. I have tried to put a For Loop at different places, but unfortunately this one stops the sample acquisition or doesn't leave it enough time to reniew the incoming signal. Would you have an idea of where I could place the For Loop to obtain the same result as when I click on the "Save and add 10 kHz"? Best, Ninskaya

Dave,
I would suggest:
1) Relocate the samplers to the E RAID assuming that you have sufficient space. If F is already handling cache and scratch duties, he is already pretty "busy".
2) If you performance after moving the samplers is OK, you are done.
3) if performance is too slow add another internal or external drive for the samplers (USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt or eSATA, USB 2.0).

Jim

For loop initialization before another for loop commanded by an If condition
Hello Everybody,
I have made a program which sweeps the total range of the duty cycle of a command signal, for a MOSFET circuit. I use a for loop, and I measure the output power, find the maximum power and block my circuit at this value.
But I want that this loop serves as an initialization and I would like to add another For loop which starts with an If condition and sweeps a smaller part of the duty cycle. I have a voltage command, and I want that the second loop starts when the voltage command decreases.
So my question is about the structure to use? I can do it by using a formula node, but I need a very fast program. In fact, when the voltage command decreases, I need to find the maximum output power and to block my circuit at the value in 1s.
And in general, have you got advices to have a really fast program? (not use graph, tables,....?)
Thank you very much,

That is the right question that I was also going to ask!!!
Also can you put a version of the code you already have here?
It will be easier to understand your needs with the code you have than with some literal description -
There is a bug in LabVIEW 7.1 where you have a for-loop, a constant outside
the loop, a constant inside the loop and a subtraction of the two constants.
What you have to do to see the bug is:
- Place a for-loop on the diagram
- Wire a constant with any value to the count terminal
- Place a constant on the diagram outside the for-loop, use any postive
number
- Place a constant inside the for-loop, use any positive number
- Place a substract-icon inside the for-loop
- Wire the constant outside the loop to the substract-icon
- Wire the constant inside the loop to the substract-icon
- Wire the result of the substraction to the output of the loop and disable
indexing
- Wire the input of the constant outside the loop directly to another output
of the
loop and disable indexing
- Probe the output of the subtract.
- Run VI
What you will see is that the output constant is treated as 0
Same thing with addition, multiplication, division...
When you change the outside constant to a control it works.
When you remove the direct output from the outside constant through the loop
then it works.
This has been submitted to NI as a bug report, so hopefully there will be a
fix soon.Hi,
Isn't this exactly the same bug as the bug reported a few days ago ("Major
bug in LabVIEW math", by damsem)?
It was painfull enough the first time...

Wiebe.

I need to add a for loop so that it displays all values less than 5.00. Also, I need to display all values that are above the average. Can anyone show me hoe to do this? Here is what I have so far.
public class project
public static void main(String[] args)
double[] price = {1.00, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00, 5.00, 6.00, 7.00, 8.00, 9.00, 10.00, 11.00, 12.00, 13.00, 14.00, 15.00, 16.00, 17.00, 18.00, 19.00, 20.00};
double total = 0;
for (int nums = 0; nums < price.length; ++nums)
total += price[nums];
System.out.println("The total is " + total);
System.out.println("The average is " +total/(double)price.length);Add the following lines of code to your project.java:
ave = total/(double)price.length;
for(int i=0; i<price.length; i++){
if(price[i] < 5 || price[i] < ave)
System.out.println(price);
now your project.java looks like,
public class project
public static void main(String[] args)
double[] price = {1.00, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00, 5.00, 6.00, 7.00, 8.00, 9.00, 10.00, 11.00, 12.00, 13.00, 14.00, 15.00, 16.00, 17.00, 18.00, 19.00, 20.00};
double total = 0, ave;
for (int nums = 0; nums < price.length; ++nums)
total += price[nums];
ave = total/(double)price.length;
for(int i=0; i<price.length; i++){
if(price[i] < 5 || price[i] < ave)
System.out.println(price[i]);
System.out.println("The total is " + total);
System.out.println("The average is " + ave);
Is this what you want?? -

Because I want to acquire the similar data for multiple times and then take an average to increase SNR, I add a while loop to the vi "niScope EX Multi-Device Configured Acquisition (TClk)". It works but it runs very slowly (about 1 sec for each iteration). I think I had put the while loop at a wrong position, which makes the vi run from the very beginning in each iteration. So I really want to know where should I put the while loop to improve the speed? I have attached all the vi and subvi.
Thanks very much.

avgWfm.vi 15 KBDear Zainykhas,
Thank you for posting this to the discussion forums and for uploading some sample code. I took a lok at the issue you have been having, and it is unclear to me as to why you have placed two for loops around the original while loop. My understanding is that you want to use the original Sample.vi and want to execute this N times where N is the Max Freq divided by Interval so that you can scan for a range of frequencies.
Why not just put Sample.vi around one for loop and use the increment counter scaled by the interval to count up towards Max Freq and insert the desired Frequency into the cluster using Bundle By Name?

I've attached a sample VI that I just cannot figure out how to get working the way that I want. I've labeled the some sections with black-on-yellow text boxes for clarity during the description that follows in the next few sentences. Here's what I want:
1) overall -- i'm intend for this to be a subVI that will do data acquisition and write the data to a file. I want it to use a producer/consumer approach. The producer construct is the 'parallel for loop' that runs an exact number of times depending on user input (which will come from the mainVI that is not included). For now I've wired a 1-D array w/ 2 elements as a test case. During the producer loop, the data is acquired and put into a queue to be delt with in the consumer loop (for now, i just add a random number to the queue).
2) the consumer construct is the 'parallel while loop'. It will dequeue elements and write them to a file. I want this to keep running continuously and parallel until two conditions are met.
i. the for loop has finished execution
ii. the queue is empty.
when the conditions are met, the while loop will exit, close the queue, and the subVI will finish. (and return stuff to mainVI that i can deal with on my own)
Here's the problems.
1) in the "parallel for loop" I have a flat sequence structure.. I haven't had time to incorporate some data dependency into these two sequential sections, but basically, I just care that the "inner while loop" condition is met before the data is collected and queued. I think I can do this on my own, but if you have suggestions, I'm interested.
2) I can easily get the outer for and while loops to run sequentially, but I want them to run in parallel. My reasoning for this is that that I anticipate the two tasks taking very different amounts of time. .. basically, I want the while loop to just keep polling the queue to get everything out of it (or I suppose I could somehow use notifiers - suggestions welcome)... the thing is, this loop will probably run faster than the for loop, so just checking to see that the queue is empty will not work... I need to meet the additional condition that nothing else will be placed in the queue - and this condition is met when the for loop is complete. basically, I just can't figure out how to do this.
3) for now, I've placed a simple stop button in the 'parallel while loop', but I must be missing something fundamental here, because the stop button is totally unresponsive. i.e. - when I press it, it stays depressed, and nothing happens.
suggestions are totally welcome!
thanks,
-Z

Yes, you got it!
As I've thought about it a bit more, there's a few things that surprise me... first, the reason the 'dequeue element while loop' errors is not because there's nothing in the queue, it's becaues the queue has been released and it's trying to access that released queue... However the problem I have is this --- Even though there's no timeout wired to the dequeue element, I still would think that the while loop that contains it would continue to run at whatever pace it wanted -- and as i said before.. most of the time, it would find that there is nothing to dequeue, but once in a while, something is there. however, it seems that this loop only runs when something has been enqueued. the reason I say this is illustrated in the next code sample MODv2 that's attached below. I've added a stop button to the "queue size while loop" so the program runs until that is pressed. I've also added a simple conditional in the "dequeue while loop" that generates a random number if it a button is pressed... but this button is totally non-responsive... which means to me that the "dequeue while loop" isn't actually continuously running, but only when an element is added to the queue. this still seems almost like the 'dequeue while loop" waits for a notifier from the queue telling it to run. can you explain this to me? because it is different from what I expect to be happening.

Can I use a for loop to add anonymous ActionListener objects?
I have a setListener() method that has the following inside:
for(int k = 0; k < buttons.length; k++)
buttons[k].addActionListener(new ActionListener()
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
g2.setColor(colors[k]);
}I have a JButton array and a Color array and I was hoping I could add them quickly in one shot rather than manually adding an anonymous ActionListener 9 times (I have 9 components). It tells me I need to make k final for an inner class and when I tested it by removing the for loop and keeping k as a final integer, it works. Is there a medium such that I can achieve what I want more or less while respecting Java's syntax?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!s3a wrote:
The local variable exists on the stack for as long as the method is executing. Once the method ends, that variable no longer exists. The newly created object, however, can continue to exist long after the method has ended. So when it's referring to variable X, it cannot refer to the same X as the one in the method, because that variable may no longer exist.Sorry for picking on little details but I am still not fully satisfied.
Earlier I questioned if the local variable changed, but now let's say that that variable no longer exists at all, why does that even matter if the inner class copied the value and is keeping it for itself? What do you mean? The variable that existed in the method ceased to exist when the method ended. The inner class, however, can continue to live on, and can continue to refer to what we see as the same variable. However, it obviously can't be the same variable, since, in the world of the inner class, it still exists, while in the world of the method, it does not.
This is completely independent of whether the variable changes or not. Regardless or whether the variable changes we still need two copies--one that goes away when the method's stack frame is popped, and one that lives on as long as the inner object does.
Then, because there are two copies, the designers decided that the variable has to be final, so that they wouldn't have to mess with the complexity of keeping two variables in sync.
That explanation leads me to believe that there is no copy and that there is some kind of "permanent umbilical cord" between the inner class and the local variable.Wrong. There has to be a copy. How else could the inner class keep referring to it after the method ends?
Also, does marking it as final force it to be a permanent constant "variable" even if it's not a field "variable"? Or, similarly, does making a "variable" final make Java pretend that it is a field "variable"?Making a variable final does exactly one thing: It means the value can't change after it's been initialized. This is true of both fields and locals.
As for the "pointless" byte-counting, I really don't see how it's confusing unless you're an absolute beginner. If I see somebody using a byte, I assume they have a real reason to do so, not pointless byte-hoarding. Then when I see that it's just a loop counter, I wonder WTF they were thinking, and have to spend some time determining if there's a valid reason, or if they're just writing bad code. Using a byte for a loop counter is bad code.
I could then ask, why are people not using long instead of int and saying that that's using int is too meticulous?Part of it is probably historical. Part of it is because at 4 bytes, and int is exactly on word on the vast majority of hardware that Java has targeted since it came out. 8-byte words are becoming more common (64-bit hardware) but still in the minority. -
I'm doing a scan around a line by sampling data 360 degrees for every value of z(z is the position on the line). So, that mean I have a double for-loop where I collect the data. The problem comes when I try to plot the data. How should I do?
Jonas,
I think what you want is a 3D plot of a cylinder. I have attached an example using a parametric 3D plot.
You will probably want to duplicate the points for the first theta value to close the cylinder. I'm not sure what properties of the graph can be manipulated to make it easier to see.

Where can I download the icloud add in for Outlook 2010 for PC?
I recently purchased Outlook 2010 and I don't seem to have the iCloud add in and I can't figure out where to download it. I'm using Windows 7.
I have done that. When I try to synch my contacts and calendar I get the message: "Setup can't continue because Outlook isn't configured to have a default profile. Check your Outlook settings and try again."
But I do have Outlook configured with a default profile. When I follow the rabbit trail of troubleshooting it comes down to checking to make sure the iCloud add in is active. When I check that, not only is it not active - it's not there. Thus my original question: Where can I get the iCloud add in for Outlook? -
