Where to go (besides API) to learn the Graphics/Graphics2D class etc

I know absolutely nothing about this at all I see it used a lot and am interested in learning it more... Is there any books trails etc?
Thanks!

If anyone has a question regarding this go here for the Java trail:

Where can I get Java Doc for the following classes
    import oracle.webcenter.peopleconnections.preference.Preference;
    import oracle.webcenter.peopleconnections.preference.PreferenceException;
    import oracle.webcenter.peopleconnections.preference.PreferencesManager;
    import oracle.webcenter.peopleconnections.preference.PreferencesManagerFactory;

The API is the same (that's the whole point with Java), and last time I checked there were programs on Linux that can handle zipfiles and html files. :)
    So yes, use the same.
(That is, unless you have downloaded the windows help format api docs. Then you need to download the regular html ones.)

  • Worker supports a subset of the ActionScript APIs. Where do I find that list of the subset?

ActionScript Workers (concurrency) supports a subset of the ActionScript APIs. For example you cannot access StageVideo or Stage3D from within a worker.
I would expect to find this list of supported API's (or the list of API's that are excluded) at:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/system/Worker.htm l
But I did not find it there.
Where do I find that list shows you which ActionScript API's are not supported within a worker?

But... you CANNOT implement, edit, or change ANYTHING having to do with Actionscript in Flash Player. Just like you can't create and edit movies with a home DVD player. It's a player only and it reads and executes A/S. Additionally, you cannot do ANYTHING with APIs in Flash Player. It's a browser Plugin and nothing more.
As I stated previously, the Flash Professional forum is where people who know ActionScript, and API implementation are. I "dabbled" in Flash for a little while recently, and I know a few lines of ActionScript, like how to stop an SWF at the end of an animation, so it doesn't repeat, but that's all I know and it's probably more than most people in this forum.
I'm not trying to be a wiseapple... I'm simply pointing you in the direction that will get you the best answers to your question.

  • How / where can I learn the meaning of the numbers and letters associated with each camera model?

Also meaning of camera model names such as PowerShot, EOS, etc.
    Thanks!

The Powershot series are all point & shoot cameras.  The letter prefer in the model number is a class within the point & shoot category.  The "G" series Powershots, for example, are advanced point & shoot bodies and somewhat high end considering they are point & shoot cameras (they're often the second camera that a DSLR owner will use they're going somewhere that a DSLR is either not permitted or simply not practical.   I had to travel for a busines trip recently and I had room in my bag to throw my G1 X in... but not room for my larger DSLRs and large lenses.
The EOS bodies are all SLR or DSLR (SLR = single lens reflex camera and without that letter "D" on the front it implies it's a "film" camera.  With the letter D it's a "digital" camera.  Canon does not make a "film" SLR anymore -- so that's really a historical note to mention the "SLR" category.)
Within the EOS system, you could break the system into roughly three major groupings... entry, mid-level, and pro.
All "Rebel" series bodies are entry level.  Note that "entry" level for a DSLR is still a world ahead of point & shoots -- so don't think of these as low-end cameras.  In terms of model numbers, in North America, Canon uses a letter/number/suffix combination.  Currently all Rebel bodies start with "T".  The first was the T1i, then T2i, T3i (and T3 without the "i" suffix), T4i, T5i, (and T5 without the "i" suffix), T6i, and T6s.   Higher numbers are more recent models (the T6i and T6s were just introduced a few weeks ago.)  If there is no suffix then it's a more basic model.  The "i" denotes the higher end of the entry range.  But recently Canon introduced the T6s which is the highest end Rebel model and has some features previously only found in mid-level models.
The Rebels include "scene" based shoting modes commonly found on point & shoots in addition to the more advanced shooting modes which are (by far) the most popular among DSLR shooters.  Part of the whole point of buying a DSLR is the incredible boost in image quality you get when you get a camera out of automatic mode, take control of the exposure settings, and use a larger lens and sensor.
The Canon mid-level EOS cameras all have 2 numbers followed by the "D" suffix.  E.g. 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 60D, and 70D (currently only the 60D & 70D are still produced.)  These bodies introduce features found on the pro-level bodies (like the 2nd LCD display on top, extra direct-setting buttons so you don't have to navigate menus, and a 2nd large control dial on the rear) but still retain the entry level features like the "scene" based sooting modes that beginners might use.
The high-level bodies have just one number digit, like 1D, 5D, 6D, and 7D.   But when Canon needs to create a newer version they can't really increase that numberic digit... so instead they rev the model by calling it a "Mark II", "Mark III", "Mark IV". etc.  So it's not really the "5D" these days... it's the 5D Mark III (or simply 5D III).  The 1D is now the 1D X.  The 7D is now the 7D II.
A few odd things happen in this category... first, all of these bodies with the exception of the 7D II get "full frame" sensors.  This is a rather large image sensor which is the same size as a single frame of 35mm film.  It measures roughly 36m wide by 24mm tall.   The entry and mid-level cameras all have "APS-C" size sensors which measures approximately 22mm wide by about 15mm tall (which is very large compared to what a point & shoot camera would have, but not as big as these full-frame sensors.)  When you look at images that have a tack-sharp subject... and yet a beautifully soft out-of-focus background... that requries a large sensor to produce that result.  You can not get that result with a point & shoot or camera phone.
The 7D II still has an APS-C sensor, but it's the best APS-C sensor can makes today.  That camera body is heavily optimized for fast-action photography (the 1D X is also optimized for very fast action shooting and outperforms the 7D II -- but the 1D X is Canon's "flagship" camera -- so no surprise there.)
The 6D also stands out as that was introduced to be an "entry level" "full-frame" body.  Prior to the 6D, all entry level cameras were basically about $2500 or more (for the body only).  This is a full-frame camera for about $1800 (body only price -- that does not include a lens.)
Incidentally... these pro level bodies finally drop the "scene" based shooting modes that beginner's might use.  They almost might have particularly advanced focusing systems that might even be a bit intimidating for beginners (except for the 6D as that's a bit of an exception.  It's actually considered an "entry level" full-frame camera.
With the exception of the 6D, I would shy away from recommending Canon's high-end bodies for beginners.  I've found the focus system alone can be intimidating for people and you really do have to dedicate some time to learning the system.  If you don't take the time to learn the system, then you're really wasting your money because these cameras are amazing IF (and only if) you take the time to learn what they can do that other cameras cannot do... and learn when, why, and how to exploit those advantages.  It wont just happpen without some effort on the part of the photographer.)

  • Custom PL/SQL API that inserts the data into a custom interface table.

We are developing a custom Web ADI integrator for importing suppliers into Oracle.
The Web ADI interface is a custom PL/SQL API that inserts the data into a custom interface table. We have defined the content, uploader and an importer. The importer is again a custom PL/SQL API that will process the records inserted into the custom table and updates the STATUS column of the custom interface table. We want to show the status column back on the spreadsheet.
Defined the 'Document Row' import rule and added the rows that would identify the unique record.
Errored row import rule, we are using a SELECT * from custom_table where status<>'Success' and vendor_name=$param$.vendor_name
The source of this parameter is import.vendor_name
We have also defined an Error lookup.
After the above setup is completed, we invoke the create document and click on Oracle->Upload.
The records are getting imported, but the importer program is failing with An error has occurred while running an API import. The ERRORED_ROWS step 20003:ER_500141, parameter number 1 must contain the value BIND in attribute 1.'

    SQL> select acc_id from loans

      3  where loans.acc_id=defaulters.acc_id);
        ACC_ID
           110
130It just returns all acc_id rows in Loans table which has corresponding ACC_IDs present in defaulters.
On 10gR2 SQL Reference, for EXISTS operator, it says ' An EXISTS condition tests for existence of rows in a subquery' .
Would it be wrong if i say, EXISTS operator can be used when you want to return all rows in the Outerquery which has matching records in the Innerquery.

Would it be wrong if i say, EXISTS operator
can be used when you want to return all rows in the
Outerquery which has matching records in the
Innerquery.Depends on what you understand with "matching".
    See following examples:
In this case matching means "<>" i.e. return all loans who have at least one row that differs in defaulters table (of course it returns all loans, because defaulters has 2 rows with different acc_id, BTW look also for NULLs and comparisons involving NULLs)
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  select acc_id from loans
      2  where exists(
      3    select 1 from defaulters
      4*   where loans.acc_id<>defaulters.acc_id)
    SQL> /
        ACC_ID
           100
           110
           120
           130See also following query:
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  select acc_id from loans
      2  where exists(
      3    select 1 from defaulters
      4* )
    SQL> /
        ACC_ID
           100
           110
           120
130There isn't any condition at all, so any row in defaulters is "matching" row in this case.
So I'd stick with explanation in documentation this time ;)

  • Good way to start with the learning the 11g concepts

    Hi,
I have a work experience on the BEA weblogic server 8.1 sp4 on which i have worked for about 2 year now. My current assignment requires working with the Installation/ Development and deployment in the Fusion middleware 11g server. Could some body please suggest me a good way to start with the learning the 11g concepts.
I understand that all the documentations are available in the Oracle forum, but i want to understand where to start from.
my core tasks in the assignment would be
    1. installation (OSB on top of WLS).
    2. development/configuration on OSB.
    3. Deployment and administrative tasks.
    regards,
    Prakhar

Hi thanks for the update. I have been going through the links and found them very useful.
    I have few new doubts.
In all the tutorials for getting started with the Fusion middleware, the examples which are given use the Oracle JDeveloper extensively. This IDE is used for implementing the BEPL and other important aspects. I found this very similar to the Workshop IDE initially bundled with the BEA-Weblogic 8.1. Is JDeveloper enhanced to accomodate the features of the Weblogic Workshop IDE?
Also, i need some information regarding the Eclipse IDE which is bundled with the OSB installation. Are there any tutorials available which show how to use the Eclipse IDE with OSB.
Also, can the Eclipse IDE be used to implement the same set of components which are being developed using the JDeveloper in the tutorials.
My concern here is i want to know the best way to start with the training/development. I am already familiar with the Eclipse IDE and donot want to switch to the JDeveloped unless it is absolutely necessary. Can one of these IDE be used repeacebly in place of other.
Please inform me if in case my wuestion is not clear.

I tried Jasper Reports, but i able unable to get the above format, moreover these datas will have the heading (title) highlighted, uses different symbols, underlines, uses different styles, fonts, etc. Which i think is only possible through MS WORD Api and can be done only in .NET , we tried and is pretty slow. Hence thought of doing it in Abode API in java . Please do provide some example of how to do this? I have downloaded the Indesign Server SDK and the Indesign suite . Is it possible through the indesign suite we can create the layout, font, styles, etc to be displayed in PDF? Please do send the code to generate the above snippet, as i am unable to find better examples using Indesign Java API. For your reference i have attached a sample dir data file. This is the format i need to generate in PDF, where these format is possible in Abode? I hope so.Thanks in advance. Waiting for your response..
    Thanks,
    Rithu

    This is my requirement:-
Currently we have .NET application which is generating the data which is fetched from DB in MS Word, the problem with this is when fetching a huge amount of data it is pretty slow in terms of efficiency and performance. Hence we thought of using Indesign written in Java to generate the PDF format which contains the data. Currently we have .docx file which does have a specific content generated through MS Word API , I want to convert that in to a IDML format, so that this IDML can be used with Indesign server API to generate the PDF. This is the requirement, since you are telling we can generate a PDF from IDML, I need to create a POC on this. Can you send me the source code of converting .docx -> IDML  -> PDF via Java API?

  • JAXB 2.1 API loaded from the bootstrap classloader, but it needs 2.2 API

I am trying to deploy a Java web service into a Tomcat 5.5.20 server. I have the web service packaged in a .war file in Tomcat's webapps directory, and I can see that the .war file gets extracted when I start Tomcat.
However, I get the following error when I start Tomcat:

I already added "-Djava.endorsed.dirs=/home/username/WebNMS/apache/tomcat/webapps/WebServices/WEB-INF/lib" to the command that starts the WebNMS process that starts Tomcat, but that didn't help.
Also, I tried adding a symbolic link called "endorsed" in the /home/username/WebNMS/jre/lib directory that points to /home/username/WebNMS/apache/tomcat/webapps/WebServices/WEB-INF/lib, and that didn't help either.
One interesting thing is that when I do a "find /home/username/WebNMS -name jaxb-api.jar", it only finds the one jaxb-api.jar in the /home/username/WebNMS/apache/tomcat/webapps/WebServices/WEB-INF/lib directory. There are no other jaxb-api.jar files. So I don't know why the error is saying that the JAXB 2.1 API is being loaded, when there's only the JAXB 2.2.6 API jar file. Unless it's finding something outside the /home/username/WebNMS dir, but that shouldn't happen considering I tried 2 different ways to set up the endorsed dir.

This seems to be the answer: https://jaxb.dev.java.net/guide/Migrating_JAXB_2_0_applications_to_JavaSE_6.html#Using_JAXB_2_1_with_JavaSE_6
Place the 2.1 jaxb-api.jar into $JRE_HOME/lib/endorsed. This essentially makes your JRE to "JRE 6 + JAXB 2.1". This won't affect any other applications that use this JRE, and it's easy. On the other hand, in various scenarios you may not be able to alter the JRE.

  • I've learned the basics, what's the next step?

Hi guys! I've just finished a book (Java - A Beginner's Guide) and some of the tutorials on sun.com and I'm wondering what's the next step?
The reason I'm learning Java is to get a programming job somewhere in the future. I'm in the medical field and I want to change careers. I always loved computers and technology!
I've browsed the job market in our country and a lot of them are looking for J2EE capable people. How do I make the transition to J2EE? Is there a good book available for learning it? How should I prepare next?
    Thanks!

    djshinton wrote:
Sounds to me that you want to learn J2EE to get a job in Java. The problem with J2EE is that knowing it alone wont get you a job doing it. Also, programming J2EE requires that you know J2SE, so make sure you are extremely comfortable with J2SE before moving on.I agree. You should focus on understanding the compiler, runtime, and core API well before moving on. You should write several applications (even a couple advanced level apps) before moving out of core. But you don't need to do a lot with stuff like Swing or whatever. I would touch JDBC and I'd also get some understanding of threads.
If you want to code J2EE you typically have to specialize on something. There are many roles in a J2EE project; for example, do you want to do presentation logic using JSP, code EJBs in the business layer, or administer and deploy J2EE applications? In addition, employers typically use a particular application server (i.e. Websphere, Weblogic, JBoss, Geronimo) so you will have to get familiar with them.I disagree for the most part. For the past 7 years of doing J2EE contracts (probably a dozen projects or so) it's rare that the roles are divided. Occasionally you have a web developer that will do the graphics and layout and design of web pages, but the Java/J2EE developer usually does everything else. It's not uncommon to have someone who primarily does server configurations and deployments, but you will need to learn that soon enough. Most of the time that responsibility is shared.
I would recommend reading Mastering EJB. You can download a free copy at http://www.theserverside.com/tt/books/wiley/masteringEJB. You should be able to use it as a guide to develop some test applications on a free application server such as JBoss, Geronimo, Glassfish, or WebSphere Community Edition.
I haven't worked on EJB's since 2003. Nobody seems to use them. Some people are getting back into it now that it's EJB3 but nobody I know. Save EJB for last. Focus on JSP/Servlets, XML, JNDI, Web Services, maybe JMS...

  • Where on my Mini do i put the iPod 'video' i've taken?

Where on my Mini do i put the iPod 'video' i've taken?
I connect my iPod to my MacMini, and then what?
I tried importing or dragging it from my iPod to iMovie on my Mac, but it resisted, that din't work.
i don't think a video goes to my iPhoto on my Mac.
So where, how can i put it?
I'm just beginning to take video with the Camera on my iPod Touch.   I didn't mean to, i thot i was just taking a picture, but there it is, a few seconds of video, so i thot i would learn to get it off my iPod and onto my computer somehow.
I will try your advice later, as i won't have much time today, but am anxious and will be grateful for your help.

    Oh.  O I C.
I'm guessing i just drag the video, while  i've selected my connected iPod on my iPhoto screen, over to my iPhoto icon?
Or within my iPhoto screen i drag the video down to where, cuz i didn't see a place for it on iPhoto.  Maybe it already transferred the video to iPhoto, and i can already delete it from my iPod.
Cuz that happened with some pictures i took on my iPod, which i dragged to iPhoto icon and was informed they were already there so i could delete pics from my iPod.
I'll try your advice later when i have time.
(i know i'm asking a lot of questions today, while i have time, and will try the answers later.)
thanks a whole lot, as always.

  • Java Portal API to determine the proxy?

    Hello,
I am writing a JSP-based portlet, using the Apache SOAP 2.2 implementation to access a web service, and I need it to be flexible enough to access that service through a firewall. So I need to be able to pass a proxy host and port to the SOAP HTTP connect object. Rather than hard code the proxy address or create a customization page for the portlet where the proxy has to be manually set, is there a Portal API to determine the proxy server that's been set through the main admin screens?
    Thanks in advance,

I don't think there is a public API for this.
Instead of hard-coding the proxy, make it a parameter of your servlet. The proxy is not something that will change very often (if at all) so it is a fairly safe bet.
Using a servlet parameter also means that the proxy can be easiy changed if the installation is moved or the network is reconfigured

You'll probably want to start with the Deployment Guide & Reference to get a feel for the different components.
Specifically, you're looking for something better than Ch. 5 : XPRESS Lanugage in the Deployment Guide.

You should review the forms and look for the dependencies of other forms, libraries, rules et al.
Forms may be used by workflow, the other major XPRESS execution area in Waveset.
In certain deployments, reusable form components are stitched together with elegance; in others, it's a train wreck of one-use forms that duplicate vast amounts of unreadable code in dozens and hundreds of files.
Typically, a build procedure is generated to allow you to click forms into a larger project deployment structure. Without knowing what's lying around, it's tough to examine a single file and get an idea for how the object affect the installation...
The netbeans plugin for Waveset provides easy access to help on many functions and the entire javadoc set for com.waveset, which may have shortcuts you can learn from... especially around building a base project and customizing simple objects.
If the Identity System Essentials tutorials are still around, they were a good place for template examples...

  • Need to load only delta where I receive full initial file all the time

    Hi All,
Can any one let me know is there any feature in DS where we can load only delta/updated/changed fileds from the flat file (which is full load)...
Scenario is : system will send all the time full initial load in a flat file format where DS need to load initially all the records later it has to update only the delta changes... So wondering do I need to perform full load in DS all the time or is there any feature to load initially full file and load only updates moving forward?
    Thanks

If you are indeed getting a full dump of the entire target table from the source system, every time, you may find it faster to truncate-and-reload your target table, depending on what else (if anything) goes in there, the number and nature of transformations, etc. Running a really large set of records through a Table Comparison transform, comparing on all fields (which it sounds like you'd need to do), can take a while, and given that you've always got "all the records," may be beside the point.
You also may want to investigate the use of checksum fields. It's possible that adding (and, of course, calculating) checksum fields on each row in both the source and target and then comparing those to identify updates would be faster than doing a Table Comparison transform-based comparison of each field, for each record.
    Best wishes,
