  • Where's my parameter files

I have the oracle installed on Windows. If I use 'startup;' command to start the database without specifying a parameter file, is there a default pfile or spfile used to start it?
I noticed that on OEM, there are some parameters I can change, or I can use Alter system set... command to alter some parameters, but are those changes written to a parameter file?
If there is a default parameter files, where is it put? Under 'Oracle HOme\admin\myInstanceSID\pfile', I did find a parameter file, 'init.ora.982004131510', but it was not used for sure when I used 'startup;'.

    Hello There,
If you have installed 9i database with default options then the database server is using spfile. So if you make any changes then they are going to spfile and not in pfile until you set your scope for pfile.
In my opinion you should change that funny number pfile to initdb.ora and then try to startup the db using startup pfile=<pfile path> command.
You can create new pfile from spile and vice versa using this command.
create pfile from spfile (check the syntax).
and then start the database using new pfile and remove the spfile, so that database will start using pfile next time you reboot the system or start the db.

  • Knowing service_name of my database; where to find parameter file.

    To All,
I have Oracle 9i. How can I find the service_name (inorder to specify it in the tnsnames.ora) of my database..?
Also Is it possible that the name of my parameter file in the location 'H:\orawin95\admin\thomas\pfile\' be init.ora ....? ie, without the instance name as a suffix to the filename after init. Or is the parameter file in some other location...?
    my oracle_home is 'H:\orawin95'
    db_name is : 'thomas'
    instance name is : 'toms'
    thanks in advance
    [email protected]

service name is nothing but your tnsname or the string you connect to the database from a client machine. Look into your tnsnames.ora file or to create one, use network configuration assistant.
You can have init file with suffixing its instance name, but, it would be good for administration purpose in the multi-instance, spefically, oracle. You can also keep the init.ora file in any directory that you need, the only thing is that you need to specify the file location when starting your database with pfile parameter with startup command.

I am using release 0.7.1. AFAIK in 0.7.1 hwdetect is used instead of hotplug. Where hwdetect expect to find firmware files? In the case it can be changed, please tell me where.

it's udev that is handling firmware files, and I placed mine for atmel wireless in /lib/firmware works fine

  • To change parameter file used for tnsping

    Hi
    I can ping the server.
I can connect to the server.
Just for fun I want to tnsping for connectivity to it. When I try, I see this:
    C:\>tnsping prod

    Used parameter files:
    C:\10g_Test\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
    TNS-03505: Failed to resolve name
The parameter file worries me. The tnsnames that I have is located here

That is a bit strange. I'd go to the sqlnet.ora referenced (c:\10t_test\network ....) and set client trace level to 16, set client trace file to a specific value (no default) and set client trace directory to a specific value (no default). Repeat your tnsping, then dig into that trace file for clues. There will be a lot there that you don't understand, but I believe you will find clues as to why it's not looking at where you set tns_admin.
Still using the 10g path. Yes, I could place the tnsnames there, but I would really rather not!
    Thanks.

  • Use of Parameter file in DAC

    Hello Experts,
I am new to DAC10.x version. Can any please tell me why the parameter file so much important in DAC. Any example link will also helpful.
    Thanks
    A

The parameter file is used as a way to dynamically populate certain values in the ETL mappings and mapplets. Its useful because it allows you to change values in the DAC instead of manually editing the Informatica mappings. It provides a layer of flexibility that you would not have by Informatica itself.

  • Parameter files in Oracle 9i

    Hi.
I have an easy question for you...
Where is the parameter file for each SID with 9.2 on Windows? My guess it is:
    ORACLE_HOME\admin\ORACLE_SID\pfile\init.ora.12345
(bunch of numbers at the end)
This is different from 817, where the file was init_SID_.ora.
Could someone explain if this is the only parameter file?
    Also, what is spfile?
Or, please point me to some documentation that explains this...
    Thank you.
    Robin

    Hi Robin,
Here is a link to the documentation on spfile - http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle9i/doc_library/release2/server.920/a96521/create.htm#1012672

You can use SAP memory either to pass data from one program to another within a session, or to pass data from one session to another.  Application programs that use SAP memory must do so using SPA/GPA parameters (also known as SET/GET parameters). These parameters can be set either for a particular user or for a particular program using the SET PARAMETER statement. Other ABAP programs can then retrieve the set parameters using the GET PARAMETER statement. The most frequent use of SPA/GPA parameters is to fill input fields on screens

    Hi Martin,
The parameter you mention is valid from 6.10 to current relase ( i.e  7.10 )
Where to set parameter , check below step :-
    login to ECC system
    goto to tcode SICF
    Click F8
drop down to location :- /default_host/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/
in that double click on WEBGUI service
Then click on SERVICE DATA tab in WEBGUI service
in SERVICE DATA tab click on GUI CONFIGURATION & add parameter name and value over there
Save it , it will save the changes in new request

  • How to set the File Path to run a javascript using Plugin Code?

    Hi All,
Im new to Indesign Plugin Development. Can any one help me out with my problem.
What i want to do is to run a javascript using Plugin Code. When i went through this forum i was able to find out that i should use the IscriptRunner Class to automate this.I could also figure out that the Member Function to use is "CanHandleFile" &"RunFile".
The first parameter in CanHandleFile & RunFile Member Function is to specify the path of the JavaScript File i suppose!I could also find out that IDFile has to used to set the file path Information.
But im clueless how to set the Javascript FilePath using IDFile. Can any one help me how to do this?Any Code Snippets Please?
    Waiting for reply.

    Hi,  Andreas<br /><br />  Can you explain this in detail? I found it in your post before.<br /><br />  The content of elements are returned through the Characters callback function:<br /><br />From ISaxContentHandler.h:<br /><br />/**<br />        Receives character data<br /><br />The parser will call this method to report each chunk of<br />        character data. SAX parsers may return all contiguous<br />        character data in a single chunk, or they may split it into<br />        several chunks. But all characters in any single<br />        event must come from the same external entity so the<br />        Locator provides useful information.<br /><br />Note some parsers will report whitespace using the<br />        IgnorableWhitespace() method rather than this one (validating<br />        parsers must do so).<br /><br />@param Chars The characters from the XML document.<br />        */<br />virtual void Characters(const PMString& chars) = 0; <br /><br />  What i have done is implement my own SAXContentHandlerServiceBoss, and in my file XXXSAXContentHandler.cpp, I override the fonctions StartElement, EndElement, and Characters() like below: I add the PMString xmlData to collect the file content:<br /><br />class XXXSAXContentHandler : public CSAXContentHandler<br />{<br />void XXXSAXContentHandler::Characters(const WideString& chars)<br />{<br />xmlData.Append(chars);<br />}<br /><br />void XXXSAXContentHandler::StartElement(const WideString& uri, const WideString& localname, const WideString& qname, ISAXAttributes* attrs)<br />{<br />xmlData.Append("<"); xmlData.Append(localname); xmlData.Append(">");<br />}<br />void XXXSAXContentHandler::EndElement(const WideString& uri, const WideString& localname, const WideString& qname)<br />{<br />xmlData.Append("</"); xmlData.Append(localname); xmlData.Append(">");<br />}<br /><br />}<br /><br />and in my program, I use the code below to call the fonction I overrided, but I dont know how I can get the String xmlData I defined in the XXXSAXContentHandler.cpp<br /><br />InterfacePtr<IK2ServiceRegistry> serviceRegistry(gSession, UseDefaultIID());<br /><br />InterfacePtr<IK2ServiceProvider> xmlProvider(serviceRegistry->QueryServiceProviderByClassID(kXMLParserService, kXMLParserServiceBoss));<br /><br />InterfacePtr<ISAXServices> saxServices(xmlProvider, UseDefaultIID());<br />InterfacePtr<ISAXContentHandler> saxHandler(::CreateObject2<ISAXContentHandler>(kXXXSAXContentHandlerServiceBoss));<br />saxHandler->Register(saxServices);<br />bool16 parseFailed = saxServices->ParseStream(readStream, saxHandler);<br /><br />Can you give me any help?<br /><br />Thanks and regards!

  • Where to set UserID and Password for NFS file share in Central File Adapter

    Hi All,
Does anyone know if/where it is possible to set the userID and password if you want to connect to an NFS fileshare with the central XI30 file adapter?
    Cheers,

    Hi Frank,
The file adapter uses user ID SAPSERVICE... with the addition of the system ID of your SAP XI system. So if your system ID is EXD the user id which needs read/write access should be SAPSERVICEEXD.

  • Set file association using GPP

    Hi
I am trying to change the default application used to open a particular file type. I tried it on the person's Windows 7 computer (in an AD domain).
I have tried changing the default file association using Control Panel. However, the text and the tick box "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is greyed out. Also, when I browse and navigate to the .exe I want to be the
default program, after selecting it the new .exe is not added to the list.
I thought I'd use Group Policy Preferences instead. However, when I right click Folder Options under Control Panel Settings and choose 'Open With' it won't accept the path I specify because the application is not installed on the server on which I am
    editing Group Policy. ????
Is there a way for me to set this, please?
Ideally, I would like to be able to edit the clients directly without the need to use GPP where an application is used just on one machine. But, it would also be useful to be able to set some global options without the need to edit every single person's
    file associations.
If anyone knows how to make changing file associations from the client editable that would be great. I don't understand why it is greyed out - is this something I may have set in Group Policy and have forgotten about?
    Thanks.

    > right click Folder Options under Control Panel Settings and choose 'Open

Simply type the path, do not use the browse button :)
