Whether to use subform or table

I'm making great progress with my form. I have two versions: 1) a table is used for repeating data items, and 2) a subform is used.
For the table, on the single row, the "repeat subform for each data item" box is checked. When in preview it will list as many rows as I allow in the max field for the row. I have 80 rows in the preview XML file. The most that should fit inside the table as drawn is 28, bit if I set the max value greater, rows will continue past the bottom of the drawn table to the bottom of the page. I haven't gotten to the point of using a data source yet.
For the subform the  "repeat subform for each data item" box is not enabled. In preview I get one row. If I did set up a data source the repeat box might become enabled. I have one subform set as positioned, then another subform inside that set to flowed top to bottom, and in the inner sub form I have the data fields.
I want to test the form with multiple pages in preview mode because I must do different calculations on each page. That's why I put so many rows in the XML preview file. With the table I get multiple rows, but I couldn't figure out how to go to another page.
I need 28 repeating data items per page and need to have multiple pages. Comments would be appreciated. Thanks

There's several ways of going about this but a lot of it depends on how the data is wanted to flow. Does the footer totalling info need to be at the bottom of every page or just at the end of the table? Same with the fields at the top of the page - do they need to be on every page or just at the beginning?
The attached might give you something to go on.
I've set up 3 content areas on the master page - ContentArea1 for holding the header fields, ContentArea2 for holding the repeating table and ContentArea3 for holding the footer fields. For the header and footer areas move all the fields from the master page to these subforms and set them up as proper fields instead of floating fields.
For subforms: subHeader is set to positioned in ContentArea1, subTable is set to flowed in ContentArea2 and subFooter set to positioned ContentArea3. I wasn't quite sure of the settings for getting the flow to the correct content area but it's working properly at the moment so the table continues to flow into ContentArea2 when it breaks to a new page.
I've set the table for 50 items so it flows a few pages so you can see what's happening. I've also set up the table with proper fields instead of floating fields.
If you don't need the static header and footer areas on every page you could have one main flowed subform that holds everything, with the same subform setup inside that main subform, the footer subform would then get pushed along after the table:
subMain (flowed)
     -- subHeader (positioned)
     -- subTable (flowed)
     -- subFooter (positioned)
My other thought is that if it was me I would recreate the form in LC instead of trying to use the old art in the background.
Hope this helps!

    Hi Sweta,
Create the interface attributes of type string and xtring type.
Create node in the context of type graphics. bind the interface fields to the graphic node context element properties -
Graphic content, field of xzstring type and mimetype to be string/any char data type of suitable length.
In  layout drag and drop the image field and bind it to the graphic element.
    In yoour report programme-
do the code as berlow to pass the graphic data -

in the call <form function module>
    pass the inerface values for

    This would work.

  • Set different default values for table built using subforms

I'm using Designer 7.1 and need to have tables with a fixed number of rows, where the first column is readonly and displays a set of distinct values. For example
    Body System Normal Abnormal Comments
    Head
    Neck
    Respiratory
    etc.
I'm constrained to building the table using subforms. I'd love to do it using the new table feature but this will not interface with our software.
I'm trying to put Javascript code in the Initialize section of the body subform that puts a different value in each row. I'm not finding a way to distinguish one row from the other. If I simply say
    this.body_system.rawValue = 'Head'
Then all of the rows will have 'Head' in the first column.
I've tried the following but it doesn't work:
    this.body_system.rawValue[0] = 'Head'
    this.body_system.rawValue[1] = 'Neck'
    Thanks for your help!
    Peter

That worked perfectly. I'd love to have figured that out myself but it must be buried in the help somewhere. Is there a good reference document for LiveCycle Designer Javascript? I've scoured around but could only find bits and pieces.
BTW here's the code that worked:
    xfa.datasets.data.resolveNode("form1.TableParent.TableBodyRow[0].body_system").value = 'Head;
    xfa.datasets.data.resolveNode("form1.TableParent.TableBodyRow[1].body_system").value = 'Neck';
    etc.
    Thanks so much!

  • Use of internal table with hearerline in ABAP OO

    Hi,
I have a very basic question regarding the use of Internal table with headerline in ABAP OO.
I consider the concept of Internal table with header as one of the most features of ABAP, which is not there in any of the other porgramming languages.
I accept that OO's concept is one of the most powerful and a very good concept. We should also implement OO's concept in ABAP.
But my concern is why in the process of moving to OO's the concept of Internal table with headerline is no more used.
Can any one tell me the main reason for this. Is there any technical reason for this. By this i mean anything to do with memory or effeciency.
    Thanx,
    Srinivas

    Hi Srinivas,
here is something more which i found about the same
    follow this link

    and search for header line.
    it says:
Tables with header lines not allowed
Only tables without header lines can be declared in ABAP Objects.
Error message in ABAP Objects if the following syntax is used:
DATA itab TYPE LIKE TABLE OF ... WITH HEADER LINE.
    Correct syntax:
DATA: itab TYPE LIKE TABLE OF ... ,
    wa LIKE LINE OF itab.
    Reason:
It depends on the statement whether the body or header line of a table is accessed. The table name should identify the table uniquely. Programs are easier to read. Tables with header lines do not improve performance.
i hope this will help you.

  • Use of external tables

We have a new scada and database system being delivered which has a section for Alarm Data. We have been told that without extensive re-writing of the ActiveX components of the scada, then we cannot put this alarm data information into Oracle (10.2). Instead, aswell as the Oracle database (which resides on a RAID5 server alongside the application server, the flash recovery area (which is our database backup mechanism), the domain controller, the forms and reports - getting off track with a rant, but they're taking the mick...), they are giving us SQL Express to store the alarm data, which is ported out as a flat file.
I am not yet too familiar with anything above 7.3.4, but my limited research suggests to me that using the external tables feature of oracle would solve this problem and allow us to use the flat file to import the data into an oracle instance and manage it alongside the rest of the database.
Am I right? Seems too obvious a solution that they wouldn't have thought of it, but this is just one of the many, many problems we're having that I feel we could provide a better solution for. Comments??

    hi,
    u mention the Alarm data.
whether the data is in XML format or CSV format.
if it is CSV format use External Tables.
CSV format means store in a flat file.
i was worked on External Table.
External Tables r u used to store the data into oracle tables..

  • Senarious for using different internal table types

please give scenarios for  using different internal table types?

    Refer to the following.
    Internal table types
This section describes how to define internal tables locally in a program. You can also define internal tables globally as data types in the ABAP Dictionary.
Like all local data types in programs , you define internal tables using the TYPES statement. If you do not refer to an existing table type using the TYPE or LIKE addition, you can use the TYPES statement to construct a new local internal table in your program.
    TYPES <t> TYPE|LIKE <tabkind> OF <linetype> [WITH <key>]
    [INITIAL SIZE <n>].
After TYPE or LIKE, there is no reference to an existing data type. Instead, the type constructor occurs:
    <tabkind> OF <linetype> [WITH <key>]
The type constructor defines the table type <tabkind>, the line type <linetype>, and the key <key> of the internal table <t>.
You can, if you wish, allocate an initial amount of memory to the internal table using the INITIAL SIZE addition.
    Table type
You can specify the table type <tabkind> as follows:
    Generic table types
    INDEX TABLE
For creating a generic table type with index access.
    ANY TABLE
For creating a fully-generic table type.
Data types defined using generic types can currently only be used for field symbols and for interface parameters in procedures . The generic type INDEX TABLE includes standard tables and sorted tables. These are the two table types for which index access is allowed. You cannot pass hashed tables to field symbols or interface parameters defined in this way. The generic type ANY TABLE can represent any table. You can pass tables of all three types to field symbols and interface parameters defined in this way. However, these field symbols and parameters will then only allow operations that are possible for all tables, that is, index operations are not allowed.
    Fully-Specified Table Types
    STANDARD TABLE or TABLE
    For creating standard tables.
    SORTED TABLE
    For creating sorted tables.
    HASHED TABLE
    For creating hashed tables.
Fully-specified table types determine how the system will access the entries in the table in key operations. It uses a linear search for standard tables, a binary search for sorted tables, and a search using a hash algorithm for hashed tables.
    Line type
For the line type <linetype>, you can specify:
Any data type if you are using the TYPE addition. This can be a predefined ABAP type, a local type in the program, or a data type from the ABAP Dictionary. If you specify any of the generic elementary types C, N, P, or X, any attributes that you fail to specify (field length, number of decimal places) are automatically filled with the default values. You cannot specify any other generic types.
Any data object recognized within the program at that point if you are using the LIKE addition. The line type adopts the fully-specified data type of the data object to which you refer. Except for within classes, you can still use the LIKE addition to refer to database tables and structures in the ABAP Dictionary (for compatibility reasons).
All of the lines in the internal table have the fully-specified technical attributes of the specified data type.
    Key
You can specify the key <key> of an internal table as follows:
    [UNIQUE|NON-UNIQUE] KEY <col1> ... <col n>
In tables with a structured line type, all of the components <coli> belong to the key as long as they are not internal tables or references, and do not contain internal tables or references. Key fields can be nested structures. The substructures are expanded component by component when you access the table using the key. The system follows the sequence of the key fields.
    [UNIQUE|NON-UNIQUE] KEY TABLE LINE
If a table has an elementary line type (C, D, F, I, N, P, T, X), you can define the entire line as the key. If you try this for a table whose line type is itself a table, a syntax error occurs. If a table has a structured line type, it is possible to specify the entire line as the key. However, you should remember that this is often not suitable.
    [UNIQUE|NON-UNIQUE] DEFAULT KEY
This declares the fields of the default key as the key fields. If the table has a structured line type, the default key contains all non-numeric columns of the internal table that are not and do not contain references or internal tables. If the table has an elementary line type, the default key is the entire line. The default key of an internal table whose line type is an internal table, the default key is empty.
Specifying a key is optional. If you do not specify a key, the system defines a table type with an arbitrary key. You can only use this to define the types of field symbols and the interface parameters of procedures . For exceptions, refer to Special Features of Standard Tables.
The optional additions UNIQUE or NON-UNIQUE determine whether the key is to be unique or non-unique, that is, whether the table can accept duplicate entries. If you do not specify UNIQUE or NON-UNIQUE for the key, the table type is generic in this respect. As such, it can only be used for specifying types. When you specify the table type simultaneously, you must note the following restrictions:
You cannot use the UNIQUE addition for standard tables. The system always generates the NON-UNIQUE addition automatically.
You must always specify the UNIQUE option when you create a hashed table.
    Initial Memory Requirement
You can specify the initial amount of main memory assigned to an internal table object when you define the data type using the following addition:
    INITIAL SIZE <n>
This size does not belong to the data type of the internal table, and does not affect the type check. You can use the above addition to reserve memory space for <n> table lines when you declare the table object.
When this initial area is full, the system makes twice as much extra space available up to a limit of 8KB. Further memory areas of 12KB each are then allocated.
You can usually leave it to the system to work out the initial memory requirement. The first time you fill the table, little memory is used. The space occupied, depending on the line width, is 16 <= <n> <= 100.
It only makes sense to specify a concrete value of <n> if you can specify a precise number of table entries when you create the table and need to allocate exactly that amount of memory (exception: Appending table lines to ranked lists). This can be particularly important for deep-structured internal tables where the inner table only has a few entries (less than 5, for example).
To avoid excessive requests for memory, large values of <n> are treated as follows: The largest possible value of <n> is 8KB divided by the length of the line. If you specify a larger value of <n>, the system calculates a new value so that n times the line width is around 12KB.
    Examples
    TYPES: BEGIN OF LINE,
    COLUMN1 TYPE I,
    COLUMN2 TYPE I,
    COLUMN3 TYPE I,
    END OF LINE.
TYPES ITAB TYPE SORTED TABLE OF LINE WITH UNIQUE KEY COLUMN1.
The program defines a table type ITAB. It is a sorted table, with line type of the structure LINE and a unique key of the component COLUMN1.
TYPES VECTOR TYPE HASHED TABLE OF I WITH UNIQUE KEY TABLE LINE.
    TYPES: BEGIN OF LINE,
    COLUMN1 TYPE I,
    COLUMN2 TYPE I,
    COLUMN3 TYPE I,
    END OF LINE.
TYPES ITAB TYPE SORTED TABLE OF LINE WITH UNIQUE KEY COLUMN1.
    TYPES: BEGIN OF DEEPLINE,
    FIELD TYPE C,
    TABLE1 TYPE VECTOR,
    TABLE2 TYPE ITAB,
    END OF DEEPLINE.
TYPES DEEPTABLE TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF DEEPLINE
    WITH DEFAULT KEY.
The program defines a table type VECTOR with type hashed table, the elementary line type I and a unique key of the entire table line. The second table type is the same as in the previous example. The structure DEEPLINE contains the internal table as a component. The table type DEEPTABLE has the line type DEEPLINE. Therefore, the elements of this internal table are themselves internal tables. The key is the default key - in this case the column FIELD. The key is non-unique, since the table is a standard table.

  • How do I use the option "table view" in NetWeaver 2004s Query Designer?

    Dear,
We have used NetWeaver 2004s Query Designer, We found a strange problem. The option to select table view is not available. It is greyed out. How can you select table view (tabular) in 2004s Query Designer?
I have read the help doc about tabular view of NetWeaver 2004s Query Designer, I check my query, it has only one structure . but the option is still greyed out. I rebuild the query with 3.x Query Designer in tabular view, and reopen it with 2004s Query Designer, So there is a tab named "tabular view" display, but the option to select table view is still not available, and when users view the query result in web , it is still not in tabular view display. So I am confused, is there a bug with NetWeaver 2004s Query Designer?
    Please help me. Thanks!

  • How to create olap cube using Named Query Table in Data source View

    Hi Pawan,
What do you mean "It Not Working"? As Kamath said, please post the detail error message, so that we can make further analysis.
In the Data Source View of a CUBE, we can define a named query. In a named query, you can specify an SQL expression to select rows and columns returned from one or more tables in one or more data sources. A named query is like any other table in a data source
view (DSV) with rows and relationships, except that the named query is based on an expression.

  • How to use single buffered table with FOR ALL ENTRIES KEYWORD

    Hai,
I'm Using TJ02T Database table, It is single buffered table but at the same time I want to use FOR ALL ENTRIES KEYWORD , Please Help me.
    Regards,
    S.Janani

    Hi,
FOR ALL ENTRIES will not depend on the buffering nature of the table. The single buffered table will only only buffer one record into memory. You can still use the statement to query the values, but it may have performance problems if the data volume is high since the records are not completely buffered into memory, the time will spent in getting data from DB.
    Thanks..

can you guys suggest me how can I use pl/sql tables for the below query to incresing the performance.
There would be absolutely no point at all in improving the performance of code that has NO benefit.
The only result of executing that code is to possibly produce some lines of output AFTER the entire procedure if finished:
    dbms_output.put_line (imgname_rec.cs_ownerid || ',' || total_val || ',' || freeform_id || ',' || freeform_name);
So first you need to explain:
    1. what PROBLEM you are trying to solve?
    2. why you are trying to use PL/SQL code to solve it.
    3. why are you using 'slow by slow' (row by row) processing and then, for each row, opening a new cursor to query more data?
You should be using a single query rather than two nested cursors. But that begs the question of what the code is even supposed to be doing since the only output is going to a memory buffer.

  • How can i  print reports to different printer by use Trigger on table after insert

    Hello,
Please can any one tell me how can i print (any message) to different printer (network & local printer) by use Trigger on table after insert.
    regards,
    Linda.

What you want to do cannot be done with PL/SQL, which does have any print utilities. However you could write something using Java Stored Procedures.
Of course the "different printer" bit will have to be data driven as triggers are not interactive.
