Which adf runtime library version for application server version
After sifting thru this forum and some documentation, I was left a little confused about installing ADF Runtime libraries to the application server we're deploying our ADF applications to. I wanted to get a definitive answer to a couple questions:
1) We're using Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.2.0. We've been deploying our 10.1.3.3 ADF applications to this application server. If we migrate our 10.1.3.3 ADF application to 10.1.3.4, do we need to install the ADF Runtime libraries (from jdev 10.1.3.4) to the application server before deploying/running our 10.1.3.4 version of the application on that server? If yes, do we need to uninstall the 'old' ADF Runtime libraries first?
2) How can we tell what jars make up the ADF Runtime libraries?
Thanks for any help you can give. James.
You always need to have a version match between the ADF libraries on your server and the ADF libraries you develop with.
So if you are developing with JDev 10.1.3.4 you need to install the ADF 10.1.3.4 libraries on your server.
You can do this with the ADF Runtime installer or directly from within JDeveloper's tools menu.
You don't need to uninstall the ADF libraries - they'll be overwritten.
The list of jar files is in the ADF Developer Guide:

Whether or not to include ADF Runtime Library
Hello all,
My company is about to get started using JDeveloper and JHeadstart.
We have to make a decision whether or not to include the ADF Runtime Library in each application during deployment.
Does anyone have advice and experience on this topic?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of this inclusion per application or using the alternative, having the libraries installed in the OC4J instance(s)?
Thanks in advance,
RenéFrank,
Thanks for your reply.
During a proof-of-concept we deployed ADF with the application to a 10.1.2. application server because ADF was not installed on this server yet. It works fine and there may be benefits doing so. For example, there's no need to test all your applications when you start using a new ADF Library as they are able to keep using their own libraries.
Like you said, the size of the deployment archive increases alot but if there are advantages in deploying ADF with the application, size might be of less importance.
From your experience you see no benefit which already helps us.
I wonder if anyone else sees some benefit. If so, please join this thread.

I tried downloading the new update for my desktop PC I get the following error messages:

an application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly Error 7 Windows Error 1114Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

How to find versions of application server components to apply patches
Hi,
I have Oracle Application server 10.1.2.0.2 installed in my linux box.
under metalink.oracle.com
1. i read documentation Doc ID: 420061.1 in metalink about patches and i did find one patch# 5922120 for my application middletier.
but when i did a metalink search i did see some patches for my database version which were not critical
so if they are not critical and if my application server is working fine then do i need to apply these patches.
My application server version is 10.1.2.0.2
and my apalication server infrastructure version is 10.1.0.4.2
during my metalink searches i found the following patches which were uner normal priority. they are:
patch numbers: 5127390, 5094712, 5605377
Can someone guide me.
Bottom line is: do i need to apply these patches unless they are critical and they are requred for my applications.
Also i have one more basic question is
How do i find out individual component versions in my application server like Portal, discoverer, EM, EM agent, etc?
Thanks in advance,
Philip.

[email protected]Philip,
You have a similar environment to ours. We actually have two Oracle environments: 91) 10gDB 10.1.0.5 / 10gAS 9.0.4.3, and (2) 10gDB 10.2.0.3 / 10gAS 10.1.2.0.3.
In regards to what patches, I look at two items: the latest patchset for DB and AS, and the Critical Patch Updates(CPU). Often, the CPU will drive what patchset you will need to be at. For example, with the CPU April 2007, we had to move to patchset 3 for our AS (9.0.4.3) since that is the only 10gAS R1 that Oracle provided CPU patches.
As far as version ID, I have not found one single area to acquire this. For Portal, you can invoke Portal, http://host/pls/portal, logon as 'portal', then Administer, Global Settings, and at the bottom of the page is the version.
For other products like Forms and Discover, you can find the version when the tool is invoked.
Not quite as nice as the DB side where dba_registry will give you all the goodies.

Pleasant Hello Pals, ( This is Vipin Nambiar from Bangalore)
I am currently evaluating Adobe Robohelp 10 version for one of my technical architecture writing. Requesting help at the very earliest for the below-said big time hurdles.
I have completed my technical writing for a in-house application system and have generated and viewing the primary layout (courtesy File -> View -> Primary Layout. ) as Contents, Index, Glossary and would like these to be hosted onto the server so that all the users of this application can access these Contents, Index, Glossary and act as a knowhow notes to use this application.
Is there any single file in my local folder of Adobe RoboHelp 10 which can be copied onto the application server ?
(My Adobe RoboHelp 10 local folder contains
a.)Sub-folders called !Language!, !ScreenLayout!, !SkinSubFolder!, !SSL!
b.)File Types called *.ALI File, *.APJ File, *.Bitmap image, *.BRS File, *.Cascading Style Sheet Document, *.CPD File, *.FPJ File, *.GIF image, *.GLO File, *.H File, *.HHC File, *.HHK File, *.HHP File, *.HTML Document, *.HTT File, *.JPEG image, *.JScript Script File, *.LDB File, *.PPF File, *.PSS File, *.Robohelp HTML Project File, *.SSL File, *.XML Document)
Any help here will serve me in plentiousFirst, your username cannot be changed and it is not a good idea to have email addresses visible on any forum, unless you enjoy reading spam.
This question is covered in the online help. When you create an output it is generated to whatever folder you specify in the single source layout. Everything that is in that folder needs to go on the server.
If the help is in !SSL! > WebHelp, then everything in that folder including sub-folders is what needs to go on the server.

How can I know the version of Application Server Java Virtual Machine
How can I know the version of Application Server Java Virtual Machine?
Thanks a lot.Thats easy. Your jdk/jre are located in the App Server home directory. Just run the java command under the jdk directory with the "-version" switch and it will provide you with detailed information about your VM.
For example if you're doing it at command prompt it will be something like
java -versionI hope this will be useful to you.

Need utilities class for application server file system (i.e. unix etc)
I need to do things to directories and files on the application server.
Is there an SAP class with methods for the application server file system (i.e. unix or whatever) with functionality similiar to what is provided by the methods of CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES for the presentation server?
Is there a group of SAP functions for this task? You may have a look at Thomas Jung article: [sdn contribution : ABAP Server Side File Access, by Thomas Jung|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/7a13f367-0401-0010-47ba-eab0b15cf31c]
Moreover, in release 7.10, it could be possible that SAP introduced input and output stream classes (to mimic java classes), so I guess there could be the ones for application server file system. -
Hi,
We have installed the SOA suite, and I can login to the various components using oc4jadmin/password (bpel, esb, rules author), but for some reason that oc4jadmin password is not working for Application Server Control, which is the only piece of this I really need to log in to.
Any thoughts on what is going wrong?
Cheers,
Pat RockMaybe you change this password internally for another application (such BPEL, WSM,etc) and didn't make change for your main OC4J container.
You can try to change this password by...
1. Open the file [OASHome]\j2ee\home\config\system-jazn-data.xml
2. Find the section that looks like this
[user]
[name]oc4jadmin[name]
[display-name]OC4J Administrator[display-name]
[guid]88836370D11611DC9F30F9C1CD6F1A73[guid]
[description]OC4J Administrator[description]
[credentials]{903}F+iG1A46edXG9RdfY0pD2O4Ge/qyEjsg[credentials]
[user]
3. Replace the value separated by the "Credentials" starting and ending tags with your new desired password, prefixed with an exclamation point
Example:
[user]
[name]oc4jadmin[name]
[display-name]OC4J Administrator[display-name]
[guid]88836370D11611DC9F30F9C1CD6F1A73[guid]
[description]OC4J Administrator[description]
[credentials]!newpassword[credentials]
[user]
4. Save the file and restart OAS
This should not affect other applications.

Windows 2003 and windows 2008 for applications server
hi all.
i want to know about windows that which one is better for application server 10 R2.
which one is better windows server 2003 or windows 2008?
please if anyone knows about the difference and about the performance please help me out thanks.
Any suggestion?
sarahWell, Sarah, I have used both and I would recommend that Win2K3 is better, not because any fault of the iAS from Oracle but due to some quirks of the Win2K8. There are many updates available for the Win 2003 and it is well patched. To be honest, I have been using Oracle iAS for the last 5 or so years and seriously think that it is not that great product from Oracle and when combined with Windows OS, it really sucks. I have, that is why shifted my iAS to Linux and one to Solaris.
best regards
