An EJB is targeted to a cluster. Remote EJB clients can therefore take advantage of WebLogic Server’s load balancing and failover capabilities.
However, a proxy server exists between the clients and cluster, which performs IP address transaction.

  • Cluster Apex MS's across multiple nodes for load balancing?

Can Cluster Apex MS's across multiple nodes for load balancing? If Yes/No, any supportive doc's will be much appreciated.
Here is what I did ..........
I tried multiple MS's on different nodes for Apex Domain (clustered)
Deployed apex.war, i.war with targets pointing to cluster.
Apex listener techstack is shared filesystem $HOME/apex, where apex-config.xml and bdb are available
Anyone of the MS's whichever started up first is locking up bdb and 500 server shows up when internal workspace is being launched with host specific url, where as it works fine for the host which actually locked up bdb (first MS that was started)
2nd MS shows errors as below in log files ..
Caused By: com.sleepycat.je.EnvironmentLockedException: (JE 4.0.103)$HOME/apex/bdb The environment cannot be locked for single writer access. ENV_LOCKED: The je.lck file could not be locked. Environment is invalid and must be closed.
Its expected behavior until here .....
++++ I tried something to get it working ++++
Whilst both MS's are up and running, delete $HOME/apex/bdb but let apex-config,xml be as it is...now the internal workspace urls for both hosts work fine. I logged into host specific urls and navigated, created/edited users.,etc and it is all looking good but it did not create new bdb directory under $HOME/apex ...!!
Having said its working fine, the same issue repeats after the MS's bounce. So I did put a command line to delete bdb dir once the MS comes up to avoid the issue but really not sure if this is the right way at all?
    Geek's ...awaiting your advice!!

    Hey there,
I managed to fulfill my requirement..
If its a cluster on same machine or across machines, this should work
    1. Login to machine, cd $DOMAIN_HOME
    2. mkdir -p Apex_lsn_config/AdminServer Apex_lsn_config/<MS1> Apex_lsn_config/<MS2> # MS1 and MS2 are the Managed Server names as appropriate
#If you are planning for cluster spawning MS's across machines, make sure you create the dir's on step 2 for each machine respectively. (in my case $DOMAIN_HOME is not shared)
    3. Copy apex-config.xml from the /tmp/apex or whatever location you have it currently to Apex_lsn_config/<MS1> Apex_lsn_config/<MS2>
    4. cd $DOMAIN_HOME/bin; cp -p SetDomainEnv.sh SetDomainEnv.sh.orig #Backup the file
    5. Append -Djava.io.tmpdir in SetDomainEnv.sh as below for JAVA_OPTIONS # Do it on both machine if you are not sharing DOMAIN_HOME and planning cluster across machines
    -Djava.io.tmpdir=$DOMAIN_HOME/APEX_CONFIG/${SERVER_NAME}
Hint: Search for "iterativeDev" and append the same line with -Djava.jo.tmpdir
    6. Modify "java.io.tmpdir" from the web.xml file of apex.war as below and re-deploy the war
    <context-param>
         <param-name>config.dir</param-name>
         <param-value>${java.io.tmpdir}</param-value>
    </context-param>
    7. Bounce Weblogic Admin and Manged Servers. Make sure to tail the Managed Server log to see apex-config.xml is picked from the new location.
    8. Brew a Coffee for yourself :)
    - You find the instructions on creating a cluster from weblogic documentation, the steps mentioned above are only to overcome the bdb locking issue whilst creating a cluster.
    Did it help?

  • Modifying the goto URL - load balancer configuration

    Hi,
I am trying to find the location of the display.template which I can modify to change the "goto" parameter URL.
    Objective:
When I hit my loadbalancer URL "http://172.11.124.23/portal"
It basically can forward the request to ports 8080,8081 or 8082.
but I see the following in the browser after the redirection
    http://myportal.domain.corp:8080/amserver/UI/Login?goto=http://172.11.124.23/portal/dt
    instead of
    http://myportal.domain.corp:8080/amserver/UI/Login?goto=http://myportal.domain.com/portal/dt
so basically I get the acess manager login page but after authentication it goes back to the loadbalancer since the goto URL is'nt right.and load balancer again sends the request back to access manager. So it kinda loops back and forth betn load balancer and access manager.
I read on the forum which says display.template should be modified to correct the goto URL.
I am working in linux env.I tried changing the display.template at the following location but I dont see what I want.
    /var/opt/sun/portal/portals/portal1/desktop/default/LoginProvider
Can you point me in the right direction.!
    Thanks,
    Deepak.

  • Which info object should be used for Financial statement line (BPS and BCS)

    Hi experts.
A rather easy and straightfoward questions for someone out there.
In BPS as we know, we use the info object '0SEM_POSIT' (account groups, or financial statement line) to summamrize and store amounts from groups of accounts or for example data from COPA's value fields, and which is already an attribute of the info object '0ACCOUNT'.
I am told that there is another BCS related info object called '0CS_ITEM' that serves the same purpose, and uses it for the same reason for the purpose of consolidations.
We'd obviously like to use just the one of these info objects because of planning and reporting.
Can someone out there with knowledge in BCS recommend which one to use, and from their experience in the past how they combined the use of both (if you in fact did use both).
Also, is it true that in BCS you cannot use a two characteristic BW hierarchy for consolidations, and it can only consolidate a one characteristic BW hierarchy?
    Thanks dearly

    Hi Eugene,
I kind of understood what you said, but just incase, let me explain my situation a little clearer. In BPS I'm using 0SEM_POSIT for two reasons:
    1) To create hierarchy based on 0SEM_POSIT info object, and making each node postable. This is because on this project we don't plan at account level. Only at a kind of account group/financial statement line level. So each node is postable so that they roll up to the higher levels.
    2) I will have 0SEM_POSIT as an attribute of 0ACCOUNT (which is standard delivered as an attribute in BW). This will ensure that I derive the actuals at that the same level as the planned. This is required for two reasons:
                               a) I can have the actuals as comaprison column in the Planning
                                   layout.
                               b) I can report on the Actuals vs. Plan at the postable node
                                   level in BW queries.
So having explained this, what I understood from your explanation is:
    a) I can continue to 0SEM_POSIT as my info object for my postable node hierarchy, and
    b) I can also use 0CS_ITEM as a consolidation unit specifically for BCS only.
So what I really didn't understand is:
    1) your explanation of the mapping of 0SEM_POSIT to 0CS_ITEM, and what this mapping actually does. For example does 0CS_ITEM derive the values from 0SEM_POSIT because of this mapping? Can you explain this a bit? Is Datastream a tool in BCS by which BCS readinf financial data from other components?
    2) Can BCS use a 2 characteristic postable nodes hierarchy as a consolidation unit? For example, if I create ONE hierarchy using 0SEM_POSIT, and 0ACCOUNT. Both will be postable at any level of the hirarchy.
Can BCS consolidate using this 2 characteristic hierarchy structure? OR, must it use 0CS_ITEM info object?
    3) How does both 0SEM-POSIT, and 0CS_ITEM co-exist together, in terms of planning, consolidation, and reporting. For example if I report using the 0CS_ITEM hierarchy, then I will not be able to read plan data, because plan data is posted on the 0SEM_POSIT? and vice versa......? This question kind of ties in with 1).
Sorry for the long message, but I wanted to make sure I explained it better.
    Thanks for your help

  • Jms in cluster / load balancing and failover

Did I get it right ???
I have 1 admin server and 4 managed servers in a 2 clusters, a development cluster
              and a test cluster.
I now want to have loadbalancing with my jms server and I want to be able to migrate
my jms server in case of failer.
for each cluster I have created
              connectionFactory targeted to the cluster
Distributed destination with 2 queue members
One JMSServer migratable targeted on managed server 1, with destination 1 from
              the ditributed destination
One JMSServer migratable targeted on managed server 2, with destination 2 from
              the ditributed destination
I expect this to make loadbalancing between the 2 servers in the cluster, and
I can migrate the jms server if one of the server fails to the running server.
One thing is now.....If one server fails and I migrate the jms server to the other
server that is running, and I then restart the server that was down, what is then
happening, do I then have 3 jms servers ???

Once you migrate a JMSServer from a WeblogicServer1 to WeblogicServer2,
and then you boot WeblogicServer1, this JMSServer which was migrated should
              NOT be on WeblogicServer1.

              Yes that is true.
Irrespective of whether you have migration or not,
only thing you need to do take care is to reconnect to weblogic server, if
the the server where your JMSConnection is loadBalanced to goes down.
There is no failover of JMSConnections. Producers inside this JMSConnection
will be closed. You will have to create a new JMSConnection and a new
Producer and continue with your production of JMS Messages.

  • Distributed HA cluster with load-balancing and failover: advice?

My workplace has a Xeon Xserve, which acts as our primary external server, with an attached ActiveStorage XRAID. We have just purchased a second Xserve/XRAID set to act as a mirror, which we will colocate. Both have Leopard Server installed, along with an array of additional software.
What we want to do is have both servers load-balance between the two, with failover in case of a server or XRAID fault. I plan on using RSYNC to mirror static files between the two, and I'm looking into PostgreSQL replication and load-balancing solutions for our database. I gather that Apache supports web-server failover and load-balancing, as well. But, that still leaves the actual host and network setup to arrange.
Does Leopard server support such a thing? The only information I found on IP failover instructs the user to place the two servers on the same subnet, directly connected via ethernet cable; obviously, this would not work in my case.
Ideally, what we'd end up with is a situation in which the two systems kept each other in sync, both in static files and database data, and load-balanced between themselves; in cases of failure, the remaining system would transparently assume all duties until the other was restored, at which time they would resynchronize
Any suggestions on how I could arrange such a thing?

Interesting. Does this DNS-based approach support session tracking, though? I would need to have a user directed to just one of the two servers for the duration of their session, to avoid having to synchronize temporary files and such.
You can't have it both ways. You need to build tolerance into the app.
At the simplest level where you run all traffic to one site and use the second site as a failover/standby site you'll be OK most of the time - all users will go to the same server and their sessions will be intact.
However, under any failover situation (your primary site is down for some reason), there is going to be some level of session traffic that it going to switch over to the other site. If your site depends on sessions then you're going to need to tolerate this kind of situation - your app will need to be able to fail gracefully if a user comes in with an invalid session cookie.
Note, though, that this may be less of an issue than you at first think - all DNS clients will cache DNS data for whatever TTL you set. This means that if a user looks up your site name and you return an IP address with a 30 minute TTL, then that user is going to use the same IP address for the next 30 minutes and isn't going to ask the server again. This should negate most chance of a user suddenly switching from one server location to the other in mid-session.
The trick comes in setting the DNS TTL low enough to effect a failover, yet not so long that you impact performance - e.g. you don't want the user to perform a DNS lookup on every page load. You may find that 10 minutes is appropriate. Just bear in mind that this affects how long a user could see your site 'down' before the failover DNS kicks in. Clearly you don't want to set the DNS TTL to a day since that may prevent the user switching to the secondary site for 24 hours by which time, hopefully, the primary site is back up, anyway.
The 'right' TTL value may take some analysis on your traffic to see how long a typical user 'session' is. If the average user spends 20 minutes on your site, then it would make sense to set your TTL to somewhere around 20 minutes to give the best chance of their entire session staying on the same server.

  • Load balancing and cluster

    Please help on this,
    Steps I have created
    1. Install Portal on node A
    2. Create j2ee cluster instance on node B pointing to node A
    3. Software load balance both the nodes
Even after load balancing the two portal nodes,if I shutdown Portal node A dispatcher, then the portal node B dispatcher will automatically shutdown, since the portal node B is a j2ee cluster for Portal node A.In this case how the URL will work from node B ? Please explain

I did portal install on server A. I  started dispatcher and I am logging with the URL http://ServerA:52100/irj on server A. And I did install of J2EE cluster on another server called ServerB. I started Server B's dispatcher. When I am starting Server B's dispatcher in Server A I am able to see another time Element joined. The URL for the serverB is http://ServerB:52100/irj. When I created users on Server A, I am able to see the users on Server B.When server B goes down or if dispatcher of B stopped even then Server A is working because it is independent install. But when the Server A goes down which is the main server then the additional J2EE cluster node that is Server B is going down automatically because it is dependent on Server A. But I want to make it as complete high availability of failover, means if Server A goes down it should fail over to Server B and if Server B goes down it should fail over to Server A. I understood we can do software load balancing from windows level or hardware load balancing to get the high availability. But now with my existing installs, I want to make failover to work, please suggest me which is the best way to do without changing any of the existing installs.
    My environment is :
Operating system: Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition
Data base: SQL 2000(Already configured as cluster)
    Portal: EP6.0 SP2

  • Cluster / Load balancing and no. of user

    Hi
Just wondering what kind of cluster / load balancing setup is need for e.g. 50 concurrent users ? and what's the deciding factor that will justify additional presentation service / BI server to be added to an existing cluster farm ?
Or maybe if you guys could share what's the cluster setup that you have and the number of users that would greatly help me to get a rough idea of the kind of setup needed. E.g. 2x presentation services and 2x BI server with 100 users, estimated 50 concurrent users, etc..
    Thanks in advance !

If there are 50 concurrent users, I don't think that you need to go for clustering. You can use more resources like increasing the RAM size and increasing th CPU count.
If you opt for 64 bit operating system ,it would give you better performance.

  • How do You create menu buttons that move up and down with a remote?

I have six menu items that are linked to their proper locations. When I simulated it a Hand moves over the proper choice then when I click there we go.
But on the DVD simulator you can't navigate. I thought maybe I would bring in one of the templates to use their buttons I can't get my images to replace theirs. Any help appreciated.
    Jerome

Take a look here to make sure buttons are being set properly
    http://dvdstepbystep.com/buttons07m.php
And download the movie if you like
I create a button, then set the text and include highlights
I then create another button, then set the text and the include highlights
I then click on the menu and go to the inspector to see colors
    RED Normal
    BLUE Selected
    YELLOW Activated
In simulater I then use the remote control and CANNOT navigate through the buttons
I stop Simulator and then use Auto Assign Buttons Now Command, then relaunch Simulator and get the remote control to work
Make sure to link the button to the track you want to go to.
I thought the issue is that you cannot navigate the buttons with the remote control? If you only have one button on the screen, it will always be selected (Yellow in your project as described)
If it is flashing Megenta and nothing happens, it means a target has not been set (or somehow you are targeting the menu again)
So the only two condiitions you will see is yellow or magenta.

  • Is Load Balancer a Must for SOA Cluster

    Hi,
We are trying to bring up a soa cluster of 4 soa_servers
We have deployed the code and seems to be picked up by all the soa_servers properly.
The issue we are facing is all the partner link references (which are internal composites in the cluster) is pointing to one of the soa server (i.e. the one we have used during deployment)
Because of this there is no load balancing happening and effectivly only one of the server is fully loaded.
If this is the expected behaviour, is a load balancer/proxy server a must for a soa cluster ?
    Thanks,
    Ajay....

    Dear All
Weblogic Server Cluster Domain by default WILL NOT have any Load Balancer and WILL NOT do any load balancing stuff. Any Weblogic Cluster should and must have some sort of Software or Hardware Load Balancer in front of WLS Cluster Domain. Most of the customers use open source Apache Http Server which is very simple configuration and works fine. See this below link for Apache details. Go back on this link to see other WebServers like IIS or Sun WebServer etc. You can use Hardware load balancer.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/web.1111/e14395/apache.htm#CDEGCBAC
The basic steps are in one of the webservers configuration files, you specify the details of backend WLS clustered managed servers host and ports with comma separated. Now this Apache or any other WebServer runs at some host and port. Now this is the host and port that you need to configure for any WebServices WSDL URLs. Then load balancing will happen. So even though we do development say from JDeveloper we create WSDLs or WebServices client using single WLS Server Domain. So naturally that WSDL will have that domains host and port hardcoded. But when you export this webservice .war file and deploy in cluster env you have option to invoke which wsdl url. When we get the WebService Service Object, usually there are 2 constructors. One that take no parameters and internally it goes to the default wsdl url specified in the .wsdl file. Another constructor takes 2 parameters like wsdl url and QName for Service. If you see that service .java file generated when you create client jar for the WebService you will get an idea. So the point is in your client program use the second constructor and for wsdl url, use load balancers host and port and rest will be same. Infact you can put this wsdl url in .properties file also which goes under say WLS Domain folder. So for diff env like Test, QA, Prod etc you can have diff values for wsdl url in .properties file specific to that environment.
So bottom line for Load Balancing we do need external load balancer in front of Weblogic Cluster Domain.
    Thanks
    Ravi Jegga

  • Which kerning option do you use in After Effects, and which should be the default?

Which kerning option do you use, Metrics or Optical?
Which do you think should be the default?
How would you feel about us changing the default to Optical and creating a new preference where you can set the default?

OK. Here's where we've ended up for now:
One of our software engineers is working on fixing the bug that keeps the setting from being persistent. So, if you like Optical, you can set it that way once and it will be the default for new text layers created after that.
We're not going to change the default right now. Our thinking is that fixing the bug makes it so that the people who want Optical only need to change it once, and we should continue to match Photoshop and Illustrator with their default. Also, Angie makes a good case that even if Optical is the right solution much of the time, having the default be Optical will cause people to miss out when a type designer has done the right thing and done the pairs correctly for the Metrics case.
We'll revisit this decision if it turns out that our incremental step of just fixing the bug isn't enough to satisfy everyone.
    Thanks for the feedback, everyone.
