Which control file does RMAN use?

On March 1, full backup along with control file was taken
On March 3, full backup along with control file was taken
On March 5, there is a media failure (some datafile is corrupt, but control file is intact).
So, RMAN restores March 3 full back up, and applies archived logs. But my question is: which controlfile does it use? The one on march 3? The one on march 5? Or Both?

The first choice is always the actual,current controlfile. Backed up controlfiles are only used, when all current controlfiles are lost.

    Any thoughts on how to fix this? Seen a few references to a "site reset" for SCCM 2007 but wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else to try before heading down that road with 2012R2.

    A site reset can also be done in CM12 so it's worth a try.

  • "dtutil", how to tell which configuration file for packages using after deployment?

    Hello All,
    Trying to achieve this feature,
    Using DOS command to automatic my deployment process--glad I found dtutil. However, it doesnt give you any chance to identify which configuration file to be used by SSIS packages after deployment.
    Deployment Method: file deployment
    Configuration sued: XML file and SQL Table. IN XML file, it tells which DB connection for packages to look up the configuration table.
    Who can share some thoughts on this?
    Derek

    It is NOT about sequence.
    It is about how to point which configuration file to be used by deployed packages as during the "dtutil.exe"
    deployment, you dont have chance to identify which physical location confg files to be used.
    Derek
    That you do only at the time of execution of packages. By default it uses configuration settings created at design time within the package. If you want to override it, you can use \Configfile switch of dtexec for that. You can also set explicit values for
    properties using /SET switch

  • Bursting control :DocumentProcessor does not use translation while bursting

    Hi
    We are trying to use the bursting feature in BI Publisher using the DocumentProcessor class/APIs.
    The java code is :
    import oracle.apps.xdo.batch.DocumentProcessor;
    public class BurstingTest
    public BurstingTest()
         try {
              DocumentProcessor dp = new DocumentProcessor ("bursting_cntl.xml", "test.xml","temp");
              dp.process();
    catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println(e);
    public static void main(String[] args)
    BurstingTest burst1 = new BurstingTest();
    The bursting control file is :
    <xapi:requestset xmlns:xapi="http://xmlns.oracle.com/oxp/xapi" type="bursting">
    <xapi:request select="/XXG_ACCOUNTING_CNDN_REPORT/G_Cust">

    </xapi:request>
    </xapi:requestset>
    The XLF file has the necessary translations. Source en-US and target fr-FR.
    However, I see that the translations are NOT being picked by the DocumentProcessor. The bursting does happen successfully, however I don't see the translations in the PDF.*

    Yes, I believe the translation element is defined.
    Referred to this post about that :
    http://blogs.oracle.com/BIDeveloper/2009/06/bursting_translation.html
    Also, we did try using the translation element thru' Apps and submitted as a standard concurrent program.
    The translation fie was used correctly.
    My question is :
    How do I force the usage thru' my custom Java program and in which I use DocumentProcessor?

  • Control file and Rman

    Hello,
    I have 2 disctinct servers.
    oracle 10gr2 in each one with the same linux red hat 4 version.
    the second server is just to TEST if the backup create with the first one, works fine.
    So the install in each server is exactlly the same...
    same files, same path etc.
    Scenario:
    1 from srv one I execute a full backup with RMAN
    2 I copy the file in server 2
    3 I move a datafile in order to create an error
    4 I test : restore database in server 2...
    I get the followin error:
    RMAN-03002: failure of restore command at 02/24/2008 21:15:37
    RMAN-06026: some targets not found - aborting restore
    RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of datafile 8 found to restore
    and this command return no result:
    RMAN> list backupset;
    RMAN>
    the file created with server 1 have been copied in the declared path into server 2...
    I have execute a crosscheck backup too
    RMAN> crosscheck backup;
    using channel ORA_DISK_1
    RMAN>
    Must I copy the controle file too? in this case will I have an inconsistent error?
    Thanks to help
    Cheers

    You must have
    controlfile autobackup on
    (If you don't change the format it will be in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs, and the format will be c-<database id>-<yyyymmdd>_<piece>.ctl).
    You must copy that file, as it has information about your most recent backup, the backup you just made.

  • No autobackup of control file for rman

    This is what I used for a backup of database. I do not have controlfile autobackup set, I back it up using rman commands. Backup is made to a third party media manager.
    I tried to restore and it cannot startup mount the database, it can only nomount the database. I am assumming this is because it cannot find the control file.
    Is it possible to recover the controlfile if autobackup not on ? I did make a backup current controlfile with the rman script below .. Is it possible to get back the database at all ..

    /data99/oradata/RMANT

    This controlfile "control02.ctl" was your current controlfile, you have controlfile in two different location "/data99/oradata/RMANT" and "/u11/app/oracle/fast_recovery_area/RMANT"
    So, be aware you have lost only this file "/data99/oradata/RMANT/control01.ctl" and the "control02.ctl" file is not a backup of controlfile, but is your current controlfile.
    You restored control01.ctl from control02.ctl

  • Problems creating control file in RMAN duplicate database

    There is so much detail involved in this operation that I don't know what might be useful, so I'll start simple. I'm attempting to clone a database on the same host using RMAN "duplicate database". I finally got all the setup done, the OS authentication hurdles hurdled, etc. and entered the command:
    duplicate target database to COPYCH2M until time "to_date('March 15 2012 12:00:00', 'Mon DD YYYY HH24:MI:SS')";
    The first time I got:
    ORA-19504: failed to create file "/u01/app/oracle/oradata/COPYCH2M/control01.ctl"
    ORA-27040: file create error, unable to create file
    Linux-x86_64 Error: 2: No such file or directory
    There was nothing in the Oracle instructions about manually creating the directory, but I did so, thinking that might be the problem. And it created the control files! But then I got the following:
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-03002: failure of Duplicate Db command at 05/21/2012 15:59:25
    RMAN-03015: error occurred in stored script Memory Script
    RMAN-06136: ORACLE error from auxiliary database: ORA-00201: control file version 11.2.0.0.0 incompatible with ORACLE version 11.1.0.1.0
    ORA-00202: control file: '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/COPYCH2M/control01.ctl'
    Sounds straightforward, if frustrating, right? Apparently you can't duplicate a database that's not in the exact same version. But:
    1) The backuppiece we got the control file from was from last November.
    2) The version of Oracle has not been updated since that time.
    How can a file created by this version be incompatible with this version? Where is it even getting 11.1?
    Thanks, I'm hoping this is easy but I can post more info if needed.

    The database is limited as to what it can create. Since you defined where you wanted the controlfiles to go (pfile/spfile), it's up to you to make sure the directory is valid and exists. :)

    As for your controlfiles, make sure the compatible parameter is set the same on both the source and the target unless you are using the default (11.1.0.1 for you, and you aren't)
    Keep going, you'll get there. RMAN duplicate is a great feature.
    Good luck.

  • In which header file does BOOL type defined

    All,
    Can anyone tell in which system header file does 'BOOL' type got #define'd or typedef'ed.
    Because i get the following error, while doing a make.
    parse error before 'BOOL'.
    Regards,
    venkat

    Hi There,
    The C language is case sensitive,
    so if you are looking for the definition, you need to use lowercase bool or uppercase BOOLEAN
    type.
    The best way to search is
    cd /usr/include or /usr/include/sys
    and grep for the word pattern. These are
    the standard header files.
    eg. grep BOOL /usr/include/*.h
    If you use grep -i BOOL /usr/include/*.h,
    this will ignore the case and prints everything that
    it finds that matches BOOL.

  • Which XSLT Processor does CF8 use?

    I'm writing some XSLTs and would like to use the fn:base-uri() that is accessible in Saxon-SA 9.1.0.7 or later editions.  I cannot find any documentation on which XSLT processor(s) CF8 uses.  Nor can I find anything on possibly upgrading it or using CF to access an external processor.  Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to do upgrade CF8's XSLT processor, use another one via CF or even another function that the fn:base-uri() can do.
    What I'm trying to do with the function is to get the XML's file name so that I can parse it out and insert it into the transformed XML.
    EXAMPLE XSLT:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
        xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" exclude-result-prefixes="xs" version="2.0">
        <xsl:output method="xml"/>
        <xsl:variable name="filepath">
            <xsl:value-of select="base-uri()"/>
        </xsl:variable>
         <xsl:template match="/">
              <xsl:value-of select="$filepath"/>
         </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>

    Probably most of the heavy consumption is PGA related.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28274/memory.htm#i49320
    Have a look at the AWR history views concerning memory consumption. ADDM, ASH, AWR etc should give you more insight. See also the awr/addm/ash/-rpt.sql scripts in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin on the database server. You (officially) would need Diagnostic en Tuning pack licenses though, so be warned (even for "touching" those views). Probably the heavy consumption of memory is or (wrong) storage related or inefficient code...

  • Which jar files should I use for XSLT?

    I'm trying to do one of the examples from the Java/XML tutorial on this site. I can't get it to work. I started with the JAXP jar file and couldn't compile because it couldn't find one of the classes it needed. I then added the XALAN jar file to my CLASSPATH and got a clean compile but it crashes when I try to create the tranformer from the factory. It gives an error that says something like the SAX parser doesn't support the namespace. I tried various iterations of this. Could someone please tell me which jar files to include and in what sequence?
    Thanx,

  • Which user/credentials does APEX use to execute packages

    Which user does APEX use to execute a function or procedure in the parsing scheme of an application. I am trying to debug an custom authentication scheme which calls a package procedure.

Code is executed via the <tt>dbms_sys_sql</tt> package using the privileges of the application parsing schema. See:

  • Which control surface do you use, would like to use or have used for audio?

    I am shopping control surfaces for mixing audio in Premiere Pro CC. I am buying used so I would sure like to get it right the first time. I am looking for feedback from those who have used a control surface as well as those who have just looked around. I have searched high and low for information from Premiere Pro users but have found very little. Even the Audition folks have not shared much information about experiences with audio control surfaces.
    Here are some consoles I've looked at but cannot determine compatibility (due to lack of information):
    Mackie Control Universal MCU Pro 8
    Digidesign Command 8
    Digidesign Digi 002 Pro Tools Console
    M-Audio ProjectMix I/O Control Surface
    Icon QCon Pro USB Midi Controller Station
    Behringer B-Control Fader BCF2000
    Radikal Technologies SAC 2.2 DAW controller
    Avid Artist Mix Control 8 Fader Euphonix DAW Mixing Control Surface
    Tascam FW-1884 Firewire Control Surface
    Tascam FW-1082 Firewire Control Surface
    CM Labs Motormix
    CM Labs Motormix 2
    CM Labs MotorMate
    Novation ZeRO SL MkII MIDI DAW Control Surface
    Nektar Panorama P1 USB Midi DAW Control Surface
    Alesis Master Control
    If you have experience with any of these consoles, or have any to add to the list, specifically with Premiere Pro, please leave a note here. I believe there will be others who will check this discussion looking for the same answers as I. Documentation of these control surfaces is very thin when it coms to discovering if they are MCU or EUCON protocol (or other) - and even if I was able to discern a flavor I still do not know which features will work in Premiere, such as transport controls, faders, plug-in modifiers, et al.
    So I guess my goal here is to come up with a list of work/don't work features for each of these control surfaces and more so we can make informed bang for the buck decisions. My budget for a used control surface is $300-400, but I'd be willing to go to $500-600 or more if the features/integration were significantly better.
    Thanks!

    Here is the list with the responses I have received from the manufacturers, (3) so far.
    Mackie Control Universal MCU Pro 8
    The MCU Pro uses three different types of MIDI operating protocols (Mackie Control, HUI, and Logic Control). We have not tested the MCU Pro here in Tech Support with Premiere Pro. You will want to contact Adobe directly to see if they support the Mackie Control, HUI or Logic Control protocols with the Premiere Pro software. It is up to the manufacture of the software on how well these MIDI operating protocols are implemented into the software.  With contacting Adobe directly you will be able to see what control surfaces are supported with their software.
    Digidesign Command 8
    Digidesign Digi 002 Pro Tools Console
    M-Audio ProjectMix I/O Control Surface
    The Project Mix I/O is a discontinued product.  However, it should work properly with basically any DAW program.  I can't speak to specifically Premiere Pro, but we have a few customers who use that combination and those customers report it works just fine.
    Icon QCon Pro USB Midi Controller Station
    Behringer B-Control Fader BCF2000
    Thank you for your email! Yes, you are able to use the BCF2000 to control Adobe Pro CC. YOu will need to program the controller into Mackie Emulation mode. Mackie Emulation will allow full functionality within your software. Attached you will find a PDF showing each emulation mode. Here are a few informative links explaining setup and application:

  • What file does ipod use for library and how do i access it?

    Hi.
    I almost put this in the ipod discussion but the question has to do with itunes as well...
    I have learned that itunes uses an xml file for the library, containing all song information and playlists (not sure about id3 tags for .wav, mp3) but when i looked at my data for the ipod i found no .xml files.
    Heres what happened and why i need this:
    unplugged the ipod after an osx reboot to winxp bootcamp hung. then i noticed the ipod was erased (or so i thought)
    Couldn't access any of the data on the ipod and hadnt a spare 80 gigs to back up my ipod.
    I didn't give up and after trying so many data recovery programs i got one to work and now i have what looks like all the songs back - with song titles and filenames - on my comp.
    I want my library back too. I want my hard wrought playlists and i want to know what songs i may be missing; I need to rebuild my 'library'.
    with the data i retrieved there is a folder called root, and if you follow and go to ipod control>Itunes there are a bunch of temp files and a large file called ipodcontrol and a couple files called playlist but those two were umm, empty. I dont know what any of this stuff is but if i knew how the ipod makes its library that would be a start in seeing if i can somehow get the library back. I know there is a way. I also am sure there are tons of people out there whose tracks have been erased after an auto update or unplug. You can get your music back! It would be so sweet to figure out how to reconstruct the library file too.

    I forgot to mention that for you people who have inadvertently erased your ipods, the data recovery program that worked the best for me was called R-Studio.
    So anyone know what file ipod uses for its internal library?
