Which kind of Java do I need?

I've programmed in java before, but mainly just console programs and small applets. Now I need to do something meaningful. I need to create a massive program for a restaurant and figured it should be done in java so the code would be transferable between multiple platforms, as it will contain lots of graphics. My question is, what kind of java do I code it for? There will be intense networking in it, but it's not an applet, rather just a program that can run on top of windows, or linux, or whatever os it is used on, provided we have the correct java package installed for the given os. I saw Java API, servlet, and a whole collection of other styles of java. I'll need to be able to do graphics with mouse functions, writing files accross a network, and printing accross a network for the most part. It will use a touchscreen in the end that will emulate mouse functions. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I'm talking about and what I might need? Does anyone have any suggestions for books I should look at?

I'm going to assume that your writing a point-of-sale system, and that you'll have check-out points, and stations for waitress to create checks. Please correct me if i'm wrong.
Anyhow, I'm lazy and cheap. I'd use J2SE to write 3 programs -- 1 console program and 2 gui programs.
the console program will be a Server. This will be the program to which all your other programs will connect to so that all your data will be in once place (i.e. a waitress can create a check at a station, and the
check will be avaliable on the server so that you can retrieve it at a check-out point)
Note: the server should be a console program to reduce overhead. (i.e. no wasted time on useless graphics)
The two gui programs would be:
1) A program for creating/modifying checks for waitresses to use
2) A program to "clear" or bill for a check (next to the cash register)
Both programs would connect to the console server program.
If you use a database (which you definantly should!) you could
also write a program to generate reports baised on data you collect
from the waitress stations and the cash register (i.e. # of people who
walked out on checks, highest/lowest selling food, most profitable
food, busiest/slowest times of the day, etc.)
Lets hope I'm not wrong!

  • WHICH JDK java hotspot I  need for weblogic 10.3.6  SOA 11.1.1.7 and OSB 11.1.1.7

I used jrockit but somebody told me that It will be good to move to JDK 1.7.0.28 because jrockit will gone in future.
WHICH JDK java hotspot I  need for weblogic 10.3.6  SOA 11.1.1.7 and OSB 11.1.1.7?
and where can I download it?
    Thank you

    Hi,
For WL 10.3.6, SOA/OSB 11.1.1.7 the Enterprise Deployment Guide has still jrockit sdk 1.6 as recommendation...
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E28280_01/core.1111/e12036/create_domain.htm#CCHBFCDC
The roadmap is to converge jrockit and hotspot JVMs, completion of the convergence project is targeted for JDK 8.
    http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/press/1854982
Things are already changed for 12c, but for 11g I'd still go with jrockit...
    Cheers,
    Vlad

  • JAVA 101: I need help with the terminology !

WARNING: Long post, lots of silly questions. But It might help a
    lot of people.
    Hello,
I'm having a tough time understanding BASIC JAVA technology in
general and the way it is used to deploy web forms. Apart form
the marketing droid stuff (Easy to install, works just fine,
etc..), Oracle does not give any documentation about what gets
installed and how the technology works with respect to oracle.
I don't want to learn the JAVA language, I don't need it in my
job. But I'd like to be able to determine what might be
hapenning when oracle crashes and I'd like to know what to tell
me developpers when they ask me what's available etc.. For
example, if one of my developpers wants to work with java beans
    I have 2 problems:
    a) I don't have any idea about what a Java bean REALLY is
    b) I don't even know how oracle works with it and where to
install the beans I could download.
I need a terminology guide. What is a class ? whis is ewt ? How
can I extend the java code that oracle gives us ? Is it
    possible ? Where do I start ?
Looking at the $ORACLE_HOME/forms60/java/forms directory, I can
see that all that is under this directory seems to be some kind
of java objects (with dots in it, etc..) am I right ? At least
when the java applet console is running, the messages that pass
accross seems to relate to this directory in some way...
What about the ewt directory ? What is it used for ? Do I really
need it to deploy java web forms on the web ? Which product
    installed this directory ?
What if I use jinitiator, do I still need the JDK (JDK or JRE ?)
or is it "bundled" under the jinitiator directory somewhere ?
What is JRE ? Is is installed by Sun's JDK, oracle's JDK or
    Jinitiator ? Applet viewer ?
What about the BASIC virtual machines that come with the
browsers (IE and Netscape) ? Do they need the JDK ? Where do
they install their stuff ? Can they conflict with oracle's ?
Can there be more than one JDK installed on my windows machine
without me knowing ? In what registry keys to the JDK/JRE stuff
    puts stuff ?
MOST IMPORTANT: How do I TOTALLY get rid of ALL the java stuff
on my windows clients so I can later perform a FULL reinstall ?
I think some of our clients are pretty messed up, after
installing, deinstalling and reinstalling different versions of
applet viewer, JDK and jiniiator. I'm pretty sure there are some
pointers in the registry that are wrong (in Netscape, I get a
lot of error talking about a java "bridge" that's broken, but
don't know how to fix it or even what it is !)
I don't think the ORACLE JINITIATOR UNinstall does a good job or
removing all it installed in the registry and that may be the
source of the myriads of problems we have with Web Forms.
We don't know who to blame when a problem occurs in web forms:
Forms Server ? OAS ? Solaris ? Windows ? Jinitiator ? At lkease
if we KNOW that Jinitiator is OK...
Any GOOD documentation explaining the basics (and if possible,
something putting it in the context of Oracle, stating the
    differences) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your patience and your time.

  • I am moving to the UK, What kind of charger do I need?

I have a MacBook I got in 2009. Im moving abroad in September and Im trying to figure out what kind of charger I will need. I know you can pop off the little plug part on the adapter, and I saw on amazon that I can buy an extension that fits onto the adapter with a UK head on it. Do you think this will work? Or am I going to have to buy a completely new charger? I hope not because the adapter head on Amazon is only like $10!!! Here is a link to the adapter head which I think might work http://www.amazon.co.uk/extension-power-Adapter-Charger-Macbook/dp/B004S6VIG2/re f=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1311011961&sr=8-3
I guess Im just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this. I know the voltage in the UK is like 220 and in the Sates its only 110, and I obviously dont want to fry my computer or the adapter, so I just want to make sure Im doing the right thing!!!!!!!
    Thanks everyone!

Thanks guys this is really helpful! Last time I was there I just used an adapter and ended up frying a few things haha so I think I'll get a cord instead!!! Yay, I love my Mac and would never want to hurt it haha, thank goodness they make things so easy

Since August 2012 updates for Java (and especially Java Runtime Environment, which is what you actually need) must now be downloaded direct from Oracle:

Yes, you can have single sign on enabled on multiple essbase servers,
It works like using single userid and password across mulple servers. you can configure essbase server to read from active directory.
you can configure css.xml file in bin folder

  • FileT3 configuration: java.lang.InternalError: Needs updating

I'm using a Startup class in WL 6.0 which is supposed to read a
properties file containing JMS/MQSeries queue information. The
T3FileSystem and the name of the actual properties file are supplied
as arguments to the startup class. When I start up the server,
I can see that both the setServices and startup methods are executed.
The arguments are understood, but when I try to get the T3FileSystem
object, an error occure. The error message is: "java.lang.InternalError:
Needs updating". I've checked that both the target server and paths
are correct, so I could really need some help on this one. Here
    is the code and stacktrace:
    public void setServices(T3ServicesDef services) {
    this.services = services;
    fileSystemName = (String) args.get("fsn");
    fileName = (String) args.get("fn");
// This line fails with the above mentioned error:
    fileSystem = (T3FileSystem) services.io().getFileSystem(fileSystemName);
    file = (T3File) fileSystem.getFile(fileName);

Hi, I encountered a similar (exactly the same) Problem. The Filesystems are
created during boot, are visible in the console, but when I try to create a
T3File/T3Filesystem Object, the Exception is thrown.
It looks like this is a problem in the weblogic code.
Has anyone ever got this working??
    Thanks,

    Hello,
I'm new in ABAP-Programming. I have to build communication between an ABAP-Process an a Java-Applikation. • Which kind of cache group is suitable for the intensive insertion operation

Hi Chris, sorry for call you directly. Because you give me many good answers about my many newbile questions these days:)
You told me that the dynamic cache group is not suitable for the intensive insertion operation
because each INSERT to a child table has to perform an existence check against Oracle even if load the cache group into RAM manually(Please correct me if wrong).
Here I have many log tables that they only have a primary key and no foreign references and they are basically used to reflect changes from the related main tables.
Every insert/update/delete on the main table will insert a log record in the related logging table(No direct foreign references).
In order to cache these log tables, I have to create a independent cache group for each one, right?
I do not want load these logs data into RAM because my application do not use them or these logs will waste my RAM clearly.
so here comes my question.Which kind of cache group should I use to gain the best performance with no loading them into RAM?
As my understand, the dynamic cache group load data on demand while the regular cache group need load all the data into RAM firstly and it won't load data from oracle anymore?
    Thanks in advance
    SuoNayi

Let me be more specific. Consider this cache group:
CREATE DYNAMIC ASYNCHRONOUS WRITETHROUGH CACHE GROUP CG_SWT
    FROM
    TPARENT
PPK NUMBER(8,0) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
    PCOL1 VARCHAR2(100)
    TCHILD
CPK NUMBER(6,0) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
    CFK NUMBER(8,0) NOT NULL,
    CCOL1 VARCHAR2(20),
FOREIGN KEY ( CFK ) REFERENCES TPARENT ( PPK )
INSERTS into TPARENT will not do any existence check in Oracle. An INSERT INTO TCHILD has to verify that the corresponding parent row exists. If the parent row exists in TimesTen then no check is doen in Oracle. If the parent row does not exist in TimesTen then we have to check if it exists in Oracle and if it does we will load it into TimesTen from Oracle (along with any other child rows) before completing the INSERT in TimesTen. So in the case where the parent always exists already in TimesTen there is no overhead but on the other case there is a lot of overhead.
If your log table is truly not related to the main table (not in TT and not in Oracle either) then they should go into separate cache groups. If each insert into the log table has a unique key and there is no possibility of duplicates then you do not need to load anything into RAM. You can start with an empty table and just insert into it (since each insert is unique). Of course, if you just keep inserting you will eventually fuill up the memory in TimesTen. So, you need a mechanism to 'purge' no longer needed rows from TimesTen (they will still exist in Oracle of course). There are really two options; investigate TimesTen auotmatic aging (see documentation) - thsi may be adeuate of the insert rate is not too high - or implement a custom purge mechanism using UNLOAD CACHE GROUP (see documentation).
    Chris

Plans are listed at Creative Cloud pricing and membership plans | Adobe Creative Cloud
The drop down at individual plans does show that you may subscribe to only Muse
You probably need to cancel what you have... You need Adobe support to cancel a subscription

  • What kind of listener do I need?  pass an ActionEvent?

How do I add a listener to ColorChooser? Everytime ColorChooser generates a Color I want to pass the Color to the JFrame setBackground(). Exactly once colorChooser1PropertyChange in the JFrame will do this, but it only does it once.
Somehow, I need to setup a listener but I'm not quite sure how nor what kind. I'm vaguely thinking that an ActionEvent could help here, but I'm not positive. I think that ColorChooser needs to pass an event of some kind, and then the JFrame needs to set up a listener to grab the event.
I'll revisit the Sun tutorial, but would greatly appreciate guidance :)

In users manuals on page 29 I found info that you need active 3D glasses with part number FPT-AG03.
To be honest Im really wondering none of them was delivered with yor TV.
Anyway, use this part number and you can order 3D glasses separately.
Good luck and enjoy your 3D TV.

If you head over to ifixit.com, you can check out their replacement guides for each of the items you feel needs replacing. The cost for the parts is listed there. It would be that cost + labor at an Apple store. I'm not sure if they would replace things that are cracked as that is cosmetic damage and doesn't affect how well (or poorly) the computer works. You would have to bring it to a store and ask.

  • What kind of wireless card I need for my Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GH

    hi there,
I have for sometime now a "Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5", and recently I have been thinking to get an Airport extreme wireless card with a bluetooth on it, which could work on my machine.
I have already try to deal with apple representatives and Apple sales people to give me a hand on the matter and so far is been a nightmare to approach this guys, tired of wasting time and effort, so that is way I am posting a topic on this section to see if you guys could give a hand on the matter.
All what I would like to know is what kind of wireless card I need for my Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 (version 10.4.11) and where I could buy one on line to install myself.
This is the mac unit I have.
    Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5.
    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac11,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (1.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed: 2 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 4.5 GB
    Bus Speed: 1 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.7f1
    Thanks for you time.

You're welcome. Funny how Apple works isn't it? If it's any consolation, that Airport/Bluetooth card doesn't show up on the Apple U.S. store either. I don't think they ever intended it to be a user installable part, so perhaps that's why they don't offer it for sale. Do you have any Apple Authorized Service providers in your area? I'd think they'd be able to order the card as a replacement part.
Can you give a little more detail or a link to the gadget you're referring to? It sounds like a USB dongle to enable Wi-Fi, but that must be a third party solution, since I don't believe Apple ever offered something like that.
