Which license type do we need to buy, standard or professional?

We have been helping a customer to develop a web based system built around Flash media server.
For our work we have used the developer edition. Things are going well and now our customer is now looking to go live and so wants to purchase a full media server license, however we are not sure which particular license they should purchase, either Standard or Professional ?
From looking at the product specification it would appear standard would seem to be the one but we make use of action script to create custom “applications” on the FMS server, some of which are used to record the session and the specification about what is available in professional isn't totally clear.
Finally is possible to upgrade from standard to professional at a later date if we end up picking the wrong one by mistake?

Hello, you’d definitely need a Professional licence for these types of apps (provided you use custom Server-Side ActionScript code). To avoid an erroneous situation with the licence – Standard edition is good for streaming media to a whole plethora of devices, but it can’t store custom code, can’t record streams from Flash Player, and doesn’t support rtmfp connections (p2p commu8nication). • Which replacement HD do I need to buy?

The hard drive in my old iMac 20" (Ambient Light Sensor May 2005 model) has died and I need to buy a replacement. Can I check that I am buying the right part? I was going to buy a SATA 3.5" 250Gb and was thinking about getting this one: Seagate ST3250318AS 250GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 8MB Cache - OEM
    Will this be compatible?

That looks fine. Here's a good place to find it, if it's not already where you found it.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148451&Tpk=ST3250318AS
Only thing is before installing, see if it's necessary, or even possible, to set the jumpers before installing. I'm pretty sure the SATA controller in the iMac is the older type.
The jumper block adjacent to the SATA interface connector on SATA 300MB/sec drives can be used to force the drive into SATA 150MB/sec mode for use with older SATA controllers that only work with SATA 150MB/sec drives.

Also, I just installed a similar Seagate drive, which was supposed to come with jumpers and it didn't. In the end, it didn't matter, since I was putting it in an external enclosure. But this would have been a problem if I'd needed to put it inside. You might want to call Seagate pre-sales first, 1-800-SEAGATE.

  • Which license type to buy?

Apologies in advance if this is not the appropriate forum for this question...
We have a number of iMacs and 2 Mac Pros, all running some revision level of Leopard. One Pro is running Mac OS X Server v10.5.5 Leopard, but we wish to make the other Pro an Xgrid controller, which means we must buy and install Server on it since our Server DVD was part of a hardware bundle that included the other Pro.
There seem to be two kinds of Server licenses, 10-client and Unlimited. I am confused about what these two kinds of licenses buy you.
1). Is the Client software that comes with Mac OS X Server different from other Mac OS X software?
2). If so, would an Xgrid client that wishes to submit a job to a controller need to be running the Client software that comes with Server, or can it be running any version of Mac OS X later than 10.4 (as the XGrid Admin guide says)?
3). If not, given that all of our Macs are already running Leopard, is there any reason why we might need the Unlimited version of the Server license?
4). Once again if there is no difference, is there any way to buy Mac OS X Server with a license for the server alone, i.e. with no client licenses?
These questions probably show how confused I am... please be gentle.
    Thanks.

    Hi Liz
As far as I know and explaining it simply a connection is made when a client connects to a share point to access data. Once the data has been accessed there is nothing stopping the client disconnecting thereby terminating the session. However most users (in my experience) don't work that way. They connect to a share point in the morning (at startup/login), access what they want and leave the connection idle until they need access again. In that sense the connection is permanent until the session is ended ie: the client shuts down or logs off. Clearly in a typical working day of 8 hours or so then connections are constantly ongoing. Multiply that by the amount of users and you know the rest.
You can configure the AFP Service to disconnect idle clients after a set time (there are further settings to exclude Administrators etc). This would free the Server to receive another connection. However for this to work effectively you would have to 'educate' your clients (if there were more than 10 for example) on how to access the server's resources and stay within the limitation of the license.
I'm not absolutely certain about XGrid because I don't think it follows the same restrictions. It's not that kind of connection. From what I can remember XGrid harnesses little or underused processing power locally in a concerted way at no extra expense. Effectively a kind of 'supercomputer' without having to go out and buy/build a dedicated one.
I don't think there is a 'hard limit' for XGrid? Leastways I can't find anything in the documentation that says there is? I have used it in a limited way for testing purposes. Thinking about it, it kind of defeats the whole purpose of XGrid if there is a limitation to the amount of CPUs that can be harnessed? I just don't think you can class a CPU the same way as a User.
Perhaps cross-posting on the XGrid forum might provide more answers?

  • Under which license type are InDesign Script provided ?

    Hi guys,
At work we use ID CS3. It comes with a script called "CropMarks". It's a great script but it doesn't really fit ours needs. I modifyed it (add bleed management & doesn't draw marks inside the selection) to fit ours wishes.
Some other people may need a such script so I wanted to give it for free.
I don't know where I can put a script (I mean online) and most importantly, I don't know if I'm allowed to do this. This is not a script I wrote from scratch, I modifyed a script shipped with ID.
So are those scripts under GNU license or anything. Must I give my script under a certain license ?
Thank you for your help !

    Hi Loic,
You can distribute the script. You just can't claim it as your own--you might say something like:
//Created by Adobe Systems, Inc., modified by Loic TEIXEIRA
The original script shouldn't draw marks inside the selection unless you select the Each Object option. Have you seen cases where it does that?
    Thanks,
    Ole

  • Confused about word processing on macs - do i need to buy extra software?

Hi, am about to buy a new macbook (first mac- am switching over) but am very confused about the word processing facilities which come with. do i need to buy microsoft office for mac to use word etc or can i use something similar which comes with OS X (is it text edit?)? is this compatible with a word environment at work? thanks!
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I've personally always hated Microsoft Word, but have it because that's the "standard," and at the time I bought my MacBook, the Intel Mac version of NeoOffice (which is free) wasn't out yet. NeoOffice is now out for Intel-based Macs, and it seems to be every bit as powerful as Microsoft Office (and quite compatible).
However, for most things I do, I've found I actually like Pages the best. It's very easy to use, though if you do any special things in word processing it might not meet all your needs. It will open Word documents, and if you have to send something as a Word document, you can export it in Word format.
I would recommend that you try out the Pages trial that came with your Mac, and download NeoOffice for free. Try them both - go with what you like and what works best for you. I use Pages the most, NeoOffice for things Pages won't do, and Word if I'm forced to. (And I always have my old WordPerfect that I've used for years that I can run in Windows.)

    iSCSI Target Boot Overview
Feature description : By using differencing virtual hard (VHDs). you can use a single operation system image
(the "master image) to boot up to 256 computers. As an example, let's assume that you deployed Windows Server 2008 R2
HPC with an operating system image of approximetely 20GB, and you used two mirrored disk drivers to act as the boot
volume. You would have needed approximately 10TB of storage for only the operating system image to boot 256 computers.
Wiht iSCSI Target Server, you will use 40 GB for the operating system base image, and 2 GB for differencing virtual hard disks
per server instance, totaling 552GB for the operating system images. This provides a savings of over 90% on storage for the
    operating system
    images alone.

    Hi,
Regarding the issue here is related with license, we'd better make a contact with the Microsoft licensing team.

  • Which licenses do I need for the Enterprise Portal from Dynamics AX R2 2012

    Dear Community,
some time ago i heard about the Enterprise Portal, which requires a SharePoint 2013 and a Dynamics AX R2 2012 Server.
My company has a fully licensed SharePoint 2013 Enterprise Server and enough CALs. We also have a Dynamics AX 2009 Server running.
Now to my question: What licenses are needed to get a Enterprise Portal with Dynamics AX 2012?
    Thanks for your responses.
    Sincerely ShareBear9280

    Hi ShareBear,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to know which licenses needed for the Enterprise Portal from Dynamics AX 2012 R2.
There are 4 types of user CALs in Dynamics AX 2012 R2 - Enterprise, Functional, Task, and Self Serve. The number of CALs needed is related to who these users are and what they do.
More information, please refer to the link:
    http://community.dynamics.com/ax/f/33/t/114710.aspx
For this issue, I recommend you can post your question to the forum for Microsoft Dynamics AX:
http://community.dynamics.com/ax/f/33.aspx .More experts will assist you, then you will get more information relation to Microsoft Dynamics AX.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • I need to buy a license for Flex Builder 2.0 as I do?

I need to buy a license for Flex Builder 2.0 as I do?

The Airport built-in to the iMac is exactly the same standard as that used in PC's 802.11b/g compatible and possibly 802.11n as well depending on the model. It means that anywhere you use can use a PC for wireless you should be able to use the iMac. It sounds as though your wireless network is protected with a WEP Key or similar encryption method and you have not entered the correct key into the iMac when attempting to join the wireless network or have not selected the appropriate key type from the drop down list. Quite a common situation is that if your password for your wireless network is a hex key, i.e only contains the numbers 0-9 and letters A-F then you need to select WEP Hex Key as the password type when joining the wireless network not WEP Password.

  • Do I need to buy PDA deployment licenses if I'm writing an application to a non PDA device?

    Hi
I'm starting on a project that will be using a board running windows CE, I understand that I have to buy the PDA module so that I can write the application and then download it to the target using active Sync but I'm confused about the license issue.  It isn't a PDA so will I need to buy a license for each board I download to?
    Thanks
    Karen

Would the license be per build then or device type build to be more exact?  In my project we would be using the same build on a lobby display but there could be several displays on each floor of the building possible as many as 20 devices but all using the same code.  We would have other devices using different code driving indicators etc but it would be fantastically expensive to charge each button with a license fee just to enable it to turn a light on and off.  I may end up with 4 different builds being deployed on 4 different types of devices but there could be a total of 20 instances of each device.

  • I need to buy Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 License.

I need to buy exchange 2013 license but problem is that I have total 175 users in my organization and then exchange standard license support upto 5 mailboxes and exchange enterprise support upto 100 mailboxes. My boss want to have each user have separate
    mailbox..
So i am looking a solution for 175 users with 175 mailboxes. If anyone can help me and guide me which exchange server is best and how can i manage 175 separate mailboxes ????
note: in future i also want to have symantec exec backup solution (mailboxes archiving) for that exchange server which i deploy in my organization.
    need fastest response.
    thanks in advance

    Hi FAISAL,
Regardless of which version of the Exchange 2013 will not limit the number of mailboxes, however, different versions of the
restrictions embodied in the number of databases.
More details please refer to the following article:
    Exchange 2013: editions and versions
Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 is available in two server editions: Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition. Enterprise Edition can scale to 50 mounted databases per server in the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) and Cumulative Update 1 (CU1) versions, and
100 mounted databases per server in Cumulative Update 2 (CU2) and later versions; Standard Edition is limited to 5 mounted databases per server.

  • SE and Which license do I need?

    Single Edition
I understand I can buy more than 1 SE license.
This allows me to submit to iTunes?
Is this then available on Apple News Stand?
If not why do I need to submit it to iTunes?
    Which license do I need?
I'm looking to create publications for no more than 5 clients, each would have a quartly publication. Making that a total of 20 publcations.
I'll also have clients that may want a one off publication.
In total all publications will not have more than 6,000 downloads.
They would need to be available for either free or paid perhaps even a subscription in Apple's News Stand.
Would I need a Apple dev paid membership for this?
Am I correct in thinking that if there were 6,000 downloads in total, the cost would be $0.30 X 6,000 = $1,800?
If the same account holder downloads the same publication multiple times is there a charge everytime?
    Thanks

Newsstand requires a subscription which eliminates Single Edition.
Single Edition apps will appear in the app store only.
AFAIK, if you want to act as an agency you’re going to need to contact Adobe and I do not believe they’re going to say yes without a compelling reason.
Each of those clients will need their own Apple account and Adobe account if they want to do subscriptions.
The other thought is to simply produce single editions and pull the old versions quarterly.

  • I have CS5 for my laptop and want to use it on my Mac too. Do I need to buy a separate license?

I purchased CS5 for my laptop and now want to use it on my Mac book too. Do I need to buy a separate license?

Serial numbers are platform specific. You cannot use a PC license on Mac and vice versa. You would need to run a platform swap to use it on a Mac and upgrade to CS6, but then would lose the PC license. Therefore you eitehr need to buy a separate license for the Mac or join Creative Cloud.

  • Need to pull License type from GTS to R3 in case of STO documents

    Hi Gurus,
Currently, In standard sales order process, we are using 2 functional modules in R3 to get the ECCN number and license type from GTS. This is required to populate on some billing output.
    Functional modules used are:
    /SAPSLL/***_DOCS_SD0C_FETCH_R3
    /SAPSLL/***_DOCS_SD0C_GET_R3
Using above mentioned functional modules, we can only pull ECCN number and license type from GTS only if we pass sales document number to this FM and further system pulls ECCN and license type from GTS by referring the sales document number.
    Issue:
We have a requirement is to pull the License type in case of STO documents also but STO documents/STO deliveries are not checked for GTS check, so we can not use above mentioned functional modules to pull the license type from GTS to R3 because STO/PO / deliveries do not exist in GTS.
I just have the material number with me and I need to pull the license type from GTS to R3.
Could anyone please advise the table name or any structure where i can pass the material number in GTS and can pull the license type to R3.
Your kind response would be appreciated.

    Hi DG,
Thanks for your kind response. Regarding your second point, I am already pulling the ECCN number by using one customized functional module so I already have ECCN number with me. Could you please brief me how I can pull the License type linked to an ECCN number. What is the relationship table/ logic for pulling the license type by passing the ECCN number ??
    Looking forward to your response.
