Which mail server is used in a webapp?

Hi all,
I have a Webapp where the users can send an email
to me including the parameters of a form
( <form action="mailto:[email protected])....>
<input type="hidden" name="param1" value="xx"/>
Now depending on which mail client the user has on his machine the resulting email differs, sometimes the parameters as 1 attachment, sometimes xx attachments.
So I want to implement it with javamail-api.
MY question: I have to tell the API the name of the mailserver. How can I know what mail-server the user uses? Or are all these emails processed through my own mail-server?
Please help me to understand it. Thanks a lot in advance,
Peter

Hey ho.
You have to hardconde the mail servers in your code to point to the mail server you use (= your ISP's server) or host (= Your own mailserver). All the mails are then processed through that specified server.

  • Which web server is used for openHAB2?

I've recently set up IDE for openHAB2 and built it successfully.
openHAB dashboard & paper UI are web application.
But I can't find any web server settings in openHAB project.
Which web server is used for them?
Is it possible to add java servlet for my custom REST service?

This is probably rather a question for the openHAB 2 mailing list. But to answer: Jetty is used in openHAB 2 as you can see here https://github.com/openhab/openhab2/blob/master/products/org.openhab.product.runtime/org.openhab.runtime.product.product#L57.
And yes, you can certainly add custom REST endpoints. You should do this as it is done with the default REST endpoints like https://github.com/eclipse/smarthome/blob/master/bundles/io/org.eclipse.smarthome.io.rest.core/src/main/java/org/eclipse/smarthome/io/rest/core/binding/BindingResource.java.

  • OAM : Which identity server is used by Password Policy?

    Hi,
The OAM setup has two identity servers (ois1, ois2), two webpass (wp1, wp2) on two web servers. wp1 is pointing to ois1 only and wp2 is pointing to ois2.
We have two sets of Policy manager, Access server and WebGate. wg1 is pointing to aaa1 and wg2 is pointing to aaa2.
Now, when a user tries to access a OAM webgate protected page and the password policy gets applied, do the identity server comes into picture? if yes, which identity server is used here, ois1 or ois2?
I want to use ois1 for all the requests coming to webserver with wg1. How do I do it?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Colin,
    Thanks for your reply.
The reason I put this question was - in a scenario when I dont have Access Server (any access component), then also Password Polices work. So, I understand identity server is used here. When we have access side components, what makes OAM not to use identity server at all. Or is it the feature of OAM - when the accessed resource is ptotected by WebGate the Password policies are taken care of by Access Server, otherwise by identity server or is it because of the 'obReadPasswdMode' and 'obWritePasswdMode' in the authentication scheme?
I stopped my identity server and I saw the password policy working - so I know the behavior; still asking the above question for my better understanding of OAM.
    Thanks for your help!

  • How to detect which http server is used ?

    Hello
I need a simple method to determine which http server is used on an existing APEX installation, amongst the 3 possible methods.
    Thanx

In most cases its the URL that hints at what is behind the scenes.
If you /pls/apex in all probability its Oracle HTTP Server with ModPLSQL
If you see <hist>:8080 then chances are its EPG or OC4J
If you see someother port, but not /pls/apex then chances are its ApexListener.
A more accurate way is to run the command below from within Apex , either an application or SQLWorkshop
select owa_util.GET_CGI_ENV('SERVER_SOFTWARE') from dualEPG Return Oracle Embedded PL/SQL Gateway/10.2.0.1.0 on XE
    Apex-Listener returns Mod-Apex

  • Mail server cannot use certificate because.. the filename is too long ?

    Hi,
For some reasons, yesterday, I created a new certificate on our server (XServe with Mac OSX Server 10.6.2) and I assigned this certificate to the mail server. Since then, we are not able to connect to our mail server. We receive an error saying the server cannot open a connection on port 993.
I looked at the mail access log and I think I might have found the cause:
    Jan 7 09:20:25 xs1 dovecot[1944]: Fatal: sslcafile: Can't use /etc/certificates/LemieuxBedard.com.264472D0EC029B3194A4B779D2187278189E8352.ch ain.pem Bedard.48DFB4D5FA4786D77DEF02C72591002CC865D5E1.chain.pem Bedard.48DFB4D5FA4786D77DEF02C72591002CC865D5E1.chain.pem Bedard.48DFB4D5FA4786D77DEF02C72591002CC865D5E1.chain.pem Bedard.48DFB4D5FA4786D77DEF02C72591002CC865D5E1.chain.pem Bedard.48DFB4D5FA4786D77DEF02C72591002CC865D5E1.chain.pem Bedard.48DFB4D5FA4786D77DEF02C72591002CC865D5E1.chain.pem: File name too long
I don't understand why the name is too long since the previous certificate had a name even longer. Is this a bug that should be corrected on the next update or have-I indeed done something wrong? Right now, I disable the certificate on the mail server and it works. However, I'd really like to use the certificate.
    Thanks for any help.

No, you didn't do anything wrong, JeanPhilippe. I'm right there with you. There's even another thread on this issue:
    <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10808126>
I had the same problem: IMAP & POP services would not launch using SSL. Finally got it resolved today. It had nothing to do with certificates and their names, or creating them in openssl, and everything to do with a botched dovecot.conf file, courtesy of Server Admin.
It appears that every time I changed the certificate for IMAP & POP SSL in Server Admin, it appended the new selection to the dovecot.conf file on 3 separate lines. The result was an unhealthy list of every certificate file Server Admin had ever been pointed to for this service.
After making a backup, I edited the file (/etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf) down to the single cert file I wanted it to use. It happened to be first in the list, FWIW.
If you want to duplicate this, look for the lines beginning with:
    "sslcertfile"
    "sslkeyfile"
    "sslcafile"
Obviously you need to be careful in there. But I did not even have to bounce the service before it took my changes. Thankfully, Server Admin did not overwrite my edits (which I've seen happen with manual config of other services, such as the iChat service.)
Good luck, and let me know if I can provide more detail.

  • Is my mail server being used to relay spam?

I've just setup a new OS X server (10.5.6). The only two services I have running are mail and web. The web services seem to be running well. However, mail is giving me problems. Specifically:
I have "Relay" set with two ip addresses. The first is localhost: 127.0.0.0/8 and the other is: 216.23.173.96/28 which is the ip network my server is on.
However, when I look at my SMTP log - set to "debug" level - it shows lots of mail activity including this entry:
"Apr 23 19:53:34 MMcolo postfix/smtp[39718]: DBEAE98602: host g.mx.mail.yahoo.com[206.190.53.191] refused to talk to me: 421 Message from (216.23.173.107) temporarily deferred - 4.16.50. Please refer to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/defer/defer-06.html"
That url takes you to a page that states that my mail server may be being used as a spam server, so I can't send mail to yahoo accounts.
The logs also show multiple attempts to connect to a variety of different domains. Since I'm the only one with an account on my server and I know I'm not sending those emails, it makes me concerned. Anyone have any suggestions or advice?
    Thanks in advance,
    John

I just went through this when I migrated to a new ISP. However, it was Comcast that was blocking me with a similar message. We thought our ISP had provided clean IPs. So I called Comcast and they were actually very helpful. Found out that in addition to some blacklist providers (spamhaus, etc) they are also using senderscore.org and trustedsource.org.
Turns out the block was due to the IP being listed as malicious on trustedsource.org. Got a new block from my ISP and all is now good. (trustedsource shows as unverified for the new, but that's ok with Comcast). From what I see unverified is the standard state for very low volume sites. There are some other sites for this "credit" score as well. senderbase.com is another (based on Cisco's IronPort).
So I would follow the link yahoo gives and select the part that says to send yahoo the messages and let them help diagnose the problem. If they're willing to help, use that.

  • Best e-mail server to use with iPhone and Mac?

I've always used hotmail as my e-mail server.  Recently, I've started using the Mail app on my MacBook Pro instead.  I really hate that the mail on my iPhone and the mail on my Mac do not sync with one another.  Any suggestions??

should I forward any emails I would like to keep to my gmail account or is there a faster way of doing this?

  • Domain name from the configuerd mail server

    HI,
How to get the domain name from the mail server that i configure using java Mail..
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.put("mail.smtp.host", mailServer);
mailServer has my mailServer name like email.something.com
in my application, from address is the one user sets.. if they forgot to set it and tries to send a mail then i need to send that mail with a default address like [email protected] where something.com must be the domain name.. so i juz want to know how to get the domain name.?
hope it is clear. can any of u help me out?

There's no well-defined way to do this. The
simplest approach is to offer this as a configuration
    option.
A more complicated approach would be to use
the host name of the mail server and look up
that name in DNS and try to find the DNS record
that tells which mail server to use for that host
name, perhaps stripping off elements of the name
until you find something. (And no, I can't explain
to you exactly how to do that.)

  • How does Mail decide which outgoing SMTP server to use?

I have Mail setup with two accounts - one for home use and one for work.  Each has its own outgoing SMTP server.  My question: how does mail decide which outgoing server to use?  I don't want to mix work and home stuff.
Specifically, what happens in these three scenarios?
    1) I compose a new mail.  Does it always use the first account's outgoing SMTP server or does Mail look at the recipient's domain and base its decision on that?
    2) I reply to a work email.  Is Mail smart enough to look at my domain or the sender's to know to use the work outgoing SMTP server?
    3) I reply to home email.  Is Mail smart enough to look at my domain or the sender's to know to use the home outgoing SMTP server?
    Any information is much appreciated.
    Tom

    Hi Juergen,
Thanks for the suggestion - I had to "Customize" the viewable header to include the "From:" ("Von:") line to see who I was sending as.  As far as the "use this SMTP only" checkbox is concerned - they're checked on both my accounts - so I'm not sure how much of an impact that has.  To be honest, I thought this checkbox was meant to limit your outgoing mail (for that account) to this mail server only.  I thought that if it was not checked, Mail will try to send the mail via another SMTP server if the one for this account is not reachable.....after all, why else would Apple allow you to check both servers' "use this SMTP only" checkbox?
But this is good enough for me - now I can see who i'ms ending as.
    Thanks,
    tom

  • URGENT! PLS HELP... using JAMES as mail server

hi, first of all... happy new year to everyone...
i am currently developing a web based application and one of the component in the system is using JAMES as mail server. I am done some modification in config.xml in JAMES, now the problem is i can only send internal mails instead of external one, such as hotmail and yahoo.
    The error occurs as below:-
RemoteDelivery: Exception delivering message (Mail1041375079561-0-!448616653-to-hotmail.com) - Could not connect to SMTP host: hotmail.com, port: 25
How can i send mails to hotmail and yahoo users or any other external mail?
Can anyone pls help me to solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

sounds like a network problem rather than a JAMES problem. Have you confirmed that you can ping the hotmail mail server, and then that you can "telnet" in to it on port 25?
If you have a windows machine handy, you can find out the IP address of hotmail's primary mail server by using nslookup:
    C:\>nslookup
    set type=MX
hotmail.comIf you don't get anything from this, it would indicate a DNS problem. Once you have the IP address, try to telnet to it on port 25:
    C:\>telnet 65.54.254.129 25
    Here's what I got...
    220 mc1-f3.law16.hotmail.com Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 5.0.2195.5600 ready at Wed, 1 Jan 2003 21:19:03 -0800
If you aren't able to connect, it's probably either a firewall at your end blocking outbound TCP traffic on port 25 (or possibly all ports), or a DNS issue, or some sort of routing issue with your ISP

    Hi,
Which mail server you are using ? Just go in to the inbox folder of your mail server and check if the message is present or not. Also check in the adapter monitoring whether there is any problem with the mail message. Can you plz more details about your mail server? How are accessing mails??
    Regards,
    Sudheer.

  • IPad smtp outgoing mail server choices not shown.

I use one mail Gmail account to where all my other accounts forward their mail. This makes it simple for me to organize 10 different accounts.
In iPad Mail settings I've setup my main Gmail account with 10 other smtp outgoing servers but when I write an email I don't have the option to select which smtp server is used. In Apple Mail (Mac OS) this system works fine as they have the option to select whatever smtp servers are setup.
What is the point of having the option in the iPad to set multiple outgoing servers if you can not select which ones are used before sending?
I know I could setup various POP/IMAP accounts for each smtp I prefer to use but why make it so complicated and waste space and bandwith downloading duplicate messages?
Has anyone found a solution to this or am I missing something obvious?

Yeah, I don't know why the difference. Interestingly for me, the iOS version in iOS4.2 is "better" than the OSX version of Mail because now I can have more than one Exchange account.
I am sympathetic with your need to separate your lives. I have a client that accidentally got one of my alternate email addresses and cannot/will not update his address book with the "correct" address, despite my requesting several times over the course of a year. In any case, I don't think there is any way around this other than completely changing your email address. (If not a second Gmail, then Yahoo, Hotmail or other email provider.)
The only time I've ever seen a "no password" SMTP server was as I previously said, it used a "network authentication" method. Many, many moons ago, SMTP servers often didn't have password authentication so would often be used for spam relaying. Before mobile users, "network authentication" by ISPs was fine since they could figure out which user was spamming since they could trace the IP addr, MAC addr, etc back through the physical link to the user. But with mobile users who change networks constantly, the general trend was to password authentication, even for wired ISPs since their users would want to have access to send mail while away from home. (e.g.: you're a RoadRunner customer, but want to send mail while using your laptop on vacation in Italy.) This "prior authenticated download" I've never heard of anyone else doing.

  • Help with mail users and setup 10.6 mail server bound to 10.8 Open Directory

We have a 10.7 Open Directory server which was upgraded from 10.6.  We have had some Open Directory issues since the upgrade.  I am manually creating a 10.8 server as a replacement for the 10.7 server.  All settings for services are running as expected and we are ready to turn over to the new server except for a problem with the ability to receive email.
Setup in both the original and the replacement has the OD server with DNS running with a correct MX record pointing to our 10.6 mail server.
In the replacement OD server the mail users were created as network users, with no userhome, with access to the mail service, and email addresses given.
The mail server was unbound from the original OD server, bound to the replacement OD server without SSL exactly as with the original, and restarted.
Initially the mail service said that mail clients had the wrong name or password.  Opened WGM 10.6 on the MAIL server and checked the OD records.  They showed the mail users not having the checkbox saying they were set up to receive mail selected.  Selected the checkbox to receive mail.
Now the mail client seems to connect to the server correctly but does not show the emails in the system for the users.  It is as though there is no email and the account is brand new.
Unbind the mail server from the replacement OD server, rebind it to the original OD server, and restart.
Mail clients connect and receive the mail in the accounts as expected.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I figured out what the mail server is doing.  It has created new email stores for each of the new users.  If we bind to the original OD it uses the original set of email stores.  If we bind to the replacement OD it uses the new set of email stores.
I have tried to make sure that the userIDs match in each OD but that did not help.
The server is working for each OD.  Does anyone know if I can tell the 10.6 mail server to use the old emails in the mailstore for the new user in the new OD?
If nothing else I can solve the problem by archiving the emails and copying them into the new user when running the new OD.

  • Which CAS server user connects

How to check which CAS server did user (outlook) hit among the group of CAS servers (Exchange 2013 CU3) behind F5 load balancer
    SAH

    Hi Shaik ,
In my environment also we are using the F5 load balancers ,If i wanted to check which user is connecting to which cas server then i need to contact the person who is handling the F5 device.
Like you i have also searched for the same query before six months. Finally what i found is given below.
Basically we can use the netstat commands to find out the client connectivity to the cas servers .If we run the commands on the cas server ,we will not be getting the client ip address on the netstat output instead we will be getting the ip address of the
    F5 device.
But on the F5 device we can able to see which client is connecting to which cas server by using some commands.
    Thanks & Regards S.Nithyanandham
