Which OC4J instance to install Mapviewer?

Is there a specific instance of the OC4J on my 9iAS server that I should install Mapviewer? The way my development environment is setup we already have numerous OC4J instances.
HTTP Server
OC4J_BI_Forms
OC4J_Demos
OC4J_home
OC4J_Portal
OC4J_Wireless
etc...
Should I install Mapviewer under one of these instance or create a new OC4J instance? Is there a standard place?
Thanks!
-Scott

There is no 'standard' OC4J instance for MapViewer. So yes you can deploy mapviewer into any of the existing OC4J instances, however the following points may make creating a separate OC4J instance for MapViewer reasonable:
1. individually config memory usage by MapViewer. if mapviewer will be serving lots of big maps that require fetching a ton of data from DB, then you will need to bump up the memory allocation to the oc4j instance.
2. the mapviewer error/log messages will not be mixed with logs from other applications.
3. you can just restart the mapviewer oc4j instance w/o affecting other applications; conversely, if you deploy mapviewer to existing OC4J instances, and when that instance is restarted the mapviewer server will also be restarted.

  • Which OC4J instance to use for Soa Suite: oc4j_soa or home ?

When I setup Soa Suite I am asked which OC4J instance I want to use:
    home
    or
    oc4j_soa
By default "home" is filled in the entry field. However in sample tutorials I saw always "oc4j_soa" and never "home"
What is the difference and which one is recommended ?
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
If you have installed Basic SOA Suite, you get the home oc4j container alone.
However, when you go for Advanced SOA Installation, you get oc4j_soa container, which is used clsutering one node with another, generally we have bpel, esb-rt on oc4j_soa and then we create oc4j_esbdt for esbdt. The docs refer to oc4j_soa, as we always talk about the Enterprise Deployments which uses Advanced SOA Suite with Oracle Database Dehydration Store, and not SOA Basic Install which uses Olite as dehydration store.
So, please create an oc4j container whenever needed for those specific j2ee applications, for easy identification and management.
    Hope that clarifies...

  • Will the MapViewer OC4J instance conflict with the existing one?

    Hello,
I want to install the MapViewer Quick Start kit, connecting it to my already-installed Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition. I also have installed Application Express 3.2. This is on a Windows XP workstation, for development use.
My question is, am I supposed to unzip the contents of the kit (or the contents of the mv10133_qs directory inside the zip archive) into the existing oc4j instance that installed with the database, i.e., ORACLE_HOME\oc4j? Or do I install the entire kit into a separate directory, for example ORACLE_HOME\oc4j_mapviewer? If the latter, will this mean that I will have two unique OC4J instances running? And will this produce a conflict? (I'm not sure what the Database-installed oc4j instance does, if anything. Perhaps run the Enterprise Manager Database Control?).
    Thanks for any response.
    -Dan

You should install (i.e., unzip) the MapViewer quick start into a separate directory and start its OC4J from that directory. Do not unzip it into your DB's (or any other product's) OC4J directory, as that will most certainly mess up both OC4J instances.
It's perfectly fine to run two OC4J instances on the same host. There should be no conflicts, except maybe network listener ports which you can easily fix from MapViewer's OC4J (as I assume you don't want to change the DB's OC4J settings). Just try it and let us know.

  • How to delopy to specific OC4J Instance

    Hi:
Under 9iasR2903 Java edition how do I specify which OC4J instance to delopy to from
    Jdeveloper?
Under Jdev I have created all of the necessary deployment descriptors and would like
to deploy to a specific instance of OC4J running on my server. I can't find any
way to tell Jdev which instance to target.
    Thanks,

You are the one! Don't think that you are. Know that you are!

Under the connections-Application Server node on the navigator you can define any extra OC4J instances. These are then available for deployment

  • Install PDK in an OC4J instance of OracleAS

    Hello.
    I have installed an OracleAS + Portal 10g (9.0.4), and I have created a new OC4J instance, named OC4J_newinstance.
My question is: How do I install PDK in OC4J_newinstance?
I have found a lot of tutorials and forums, but all of them explained how to install PDK in an OC4J STANDALONE instance. Please help me, and thanks in advance!
    Greetings!
ps: I need to install PDK because I want to develop my own portlets, using my own JSP pages. I already have done that, but using an OC4J STANDALONE instance, and I want to use my OracleAS OC4J_newinstance.

    Hi Shail,
i referred the link you have sent it was helpful to me, but the thing is while deleting the shared library apache.webservices it is saying the shared library is in use. When we brought down the Application Server and try to run the removeSharedLibrary command we got other error.
Error: "Failed at "Could not get DeploymentManager".
This is typically the result of an invalid deployer URI format being supplied, the target server not being in a started state or incorrect authentication details being supplied.
Is the way which i have done is correct ?? Please reply me.
    Thank You,
    Ravi kumar.

  • Single SOA Suite Install with multiple oc4j instances and java processes

We right now have 5 BPEL processes and 5 ESB processes all running under one java.exe process. We would like to seperate some of
them out into their own java.exe processes without having to install more
%ORACLE_HOME% instances of SOA Suite. I can create an oc4j instance but of
course it doesn't have any SOA Suite stuff deployed to it. I tried to see what
the install would do with this new oc4j instance but it wants to create a new
%ORACLE_HOME% with an entire installation of SOA Suite.
Is there some sort of way to clone oc4j instances that have SOA Suite deployed to them so that you
    don't need multiple %ORACLE_HOME% instances?
    ### How is this Issue Impacting Your Business ###
We really don't want to have a lot of %ORACLE_HOME% instances to have to maintain. We are
migrating projects over from our current integration server product and we'll
have potentially dozens more BPEL and ESB projects. We definitely want to
group and isolate projects so that outages of one project do not bring down
    others that are unrelated.
We are currently experiencing periodic problems with one BPEL project that requires recycling but all the other BPEL and ESB
projects get recycled also. If we could put this project into it's own java
process without creating another SOA SUITE instance, it would be a big
    help.
    ANSWER
    =======
You can create multiple domains in BPEL or create multiple systems/groups in ESB to group different projects.
    MY REPLY:
    =========
We have been using systems/groups in ESB but they all run under the save java.exe process. I would assume that having a seperate domain in BPEL would also run in that same java.exe process.
Right now, the one BPEL project we have a problem with will gobble up all the JDBC connections from time to time and that requires a recycle of SOA Suite, which means all BPEL and ESB projects that run in that java.exe process get recycled also. We're working that issue in a different ticket.
It would be nice if the SOA Suite installation would install against a new oc4j instance and not assume it has to create a complete %ORACLE_HOME% instance. The components of SOA Suite seem to be J2EE based components.
Scenario: I already have an oc4j instance called oc4j_soa and a complete %ORACLE_HOME% installation of soa suite. I then create a new oc4j instance from Enterprise Manager. Then I would deploy the esb-dt, esb-rt, orabpel, etc. components of SOA Suite to that new oc4j instance and modify the necessary config file so that it can work with OHS and the SOA Suite Databases. Is this possible?
Does anyone have any experience with this or do people typically install multiple complete installation of SOA Suite with mulitple Oracle Homes?

    Hi,
yes, on metalink you get in touch with real experts....
You have to install serveral application servers to get different ORACLE_HOMEs.
For each one, you can install a BPEL PM.
But: For each BPEL PM you need your own database instance, or you have to configure them as a clustered BPEL installation.... (but i do not know if this work with non RAC DBs)

    Hello,
I arrived on this thread by trying to install Oracle Portal 11.1.1.2 from scratch.
My environment is just for evaluating, so it is a vm with 6GB of RAM on 64b architecture.
    I've installed so far:
    OS: OEL5.6 - 64b
    DB: 11.1.0.7 -64b
AS: Weblogic - [10.3.5 from JAR, as this is available for 64b|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/weblogic/downloads/wls-main-097127.html]
    OID - [11.1.1.2|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/downloads/oid-11g-161194.html]
so until now everything went pretty smooth.
Further according to the install guide for portal , I needed to install SSO.
So I continued to install the mrcu(metadata repository ) which went fine
    MRCU: [10.1.4.3.1|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/downloads/fmw-11-download-092893.html]
Further I for SSO and DAS I've started to install following document:1069426.1
    SSO+DAS : 10.1.4.1
Installing this I've get next error
Output generated from configuration assistant "OC4J Instance Configuration Assistant":

Use physical disks, not NFS mounts. But you are still restricted to a 10.2 database max. SSO won't install in an 11g database with the repca tools from IDM 10.1.2 and 10.1.4.

  • OC4J Instance Configuration Assistant Error on Install

I'm installing iAS-903 on Red Hat 8.0. I managed to get through the linking parts OK but when I get to the Configuration Tools part at the end, I get an error with the OC4J Instance Configuration Assistant. Something about permissions.
Has anybody seen this? Did anybody get by it?
The relevant part of the error message is below.
    Starting OC4J instance 'OC4J_Demos'..done.
Deploying application 'ojspdemos' to OC4J instance 'OC4J_Demos'...
    ERROR: Caught exception during deploy.
    java.io.IOException: Permission denied

I'm getting the same configuration error. I installed the ias 903 J2EE and Web Cache application. I also received a linking error (ins_sql.mk link error I believe). I fixed the link problem by removing the -z defs from LD_SELF_CONTAINED and rerunning genclntsh script.
After installing 9ias, I can start oc4j_home and oc4j_demos without errors but I'm not sure if they are fully working.

  • Unable to deploy a simple WAR / EAR file on Standalone OC4J instance

    All,
This issue is baffling me since yesterday and while I continue to look for options , would appreciate if anyone of you has run into something similar and give me some hints on how to proceed on this ..
I downloaded the Standalone OC4J ( 10.1.3 ) from otn.oracle.com and also downloaded JDK 1.5 Update 12 from the Sun Website and installed it on my local
Windows XP machine. Everything works well and the application gets deployed.
I then copied the 10.1.3 Standalone OC4J to the Solaris 5.9 box which already
has JDK 1.5 Update 12 installed. We extracted the OC4J to its own directory , set the Java_Home and the Oracle_Home environment variables and were able to
    startup the OC4J instance.
However when trying to deploy even a simple HelloWorld.jsp file packaged as an EAR or WAR , we get these errors..

Using the above error messages , I certainly do not find the CISS.ear file getting copied to /home/aplperdev1/ssp_java/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/CISS.ear
which explains the rest of the messages.
I have tried placing the EAR file both remote and local on the Application Server box but the results remain the same. Assuming it might be a permissions issue , we have opened up all the permissions on this OC4J home ( recursively )
    to everyone ..
Is there a specific version of tar / unzip / jar required to deploy EARs / WARs on Solaris 5.9 running JDK 1.5 Update 12.
We had some issues when extracting OC4J to its directory but there were no errors displayed on the screen ... Only when we tried starting up the OC4J instance , it started complaining about missing XML files .. This was resolved by manually extracting the XML's from the corresponding jars and placing them in the proper directories ..
Also looked at Bug:6330834 but am not very sure if this applies to our case because all these drives are local to the Sun box.
Other than attempting a reinstall and opening an Service Request with Oracle , I am running out of ideas at this time ..
So any ideas / hints would be gladly accepted :)
    Vishwa

    When you say:
I then copied the 10.1.3 Standalone OC4J to the Solaris 5.9 box which already has JDK 1.5 Update 12 installed. We extracted the OC4J to its own directory , set the Java_Home and the Oracle_Home environment variables and were able to
    startup the OC4J instance.

This was resolved by manually extracting the XML's from the corresponding jars and placing them in the proper directories ..
It sounds like you have some funky issues there with those missing XML files -- that is not expected or normal.
Do you mean you copied the same oc4j_extended.zip to the server and unzipped it, or you zipped up the directories you were using on the Windows box, copied that over, and unzipped it?
I don't know of any problems with Solaris, JDK5, U12.
What about if you do this to remove any issues with the remote copy aspect of the deployment.
    1. Stop OC4J.
    2. Manually copy CISS.ear to /home/aplperdev1/ssp_java/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/
    3. Edit the j2ee/home/config/server.xml file and add the entry to deploy the application
    4. Edit the j2ee/home/config/default-web-site.xml and bind any web-modules you need.
    5. Start the server and see what happens -- the application should be deployed.
Also, what happens if you use the $JAVA_HOME/bin/jar to try and view the contents of the CISS.ear file?

  • How to create new OC4J instance in AS 10.1.3 with BC4J- and ADF-Libraries

    Hi
I have done all the steps mentioned in this thread:
How to create new OC4J instance in AS 10.1.3
However, the new created OC4J instance obviously misses some libraries. If I deploy my Application to this OC4J I get an internal error: Class not found: oracle.jbo.JboException.
The same Application runs well in the "home" Instance.
What is the trick, to create a new OC4J instance, which more or less behaves the same way as the "home" instances (and especially has all the same libraries)?
    Thanks for your help
    Frank Brandstetter

I encountered this last month. I definitely agree that it is a glaring omission to not have "Create Like" functionality when instantiating new containers. Here's my notes on the manual steps required after using createinstance to create the fresh container. Not too bad. I've been deploying ADF applications to the new container with no problems after this.
    ==============
The default (home) OC4J container is pre-configured for ADF 10.1.3 applications; however, when $ORACLE_HOME/bin/createinstance is used to create additional containers, these containers are not configured automatically to host ADF 10.1.3 applications.
    I followed these manual steps:
    1. $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/config/server.xml defines three shared libraries that "install" the needed JARs for Oracle ADF applications in your application server instance (container). Note that "install" does not necessarily mean available to applications (see Step 2). Copy the three shared library element definitions to the <application-server> element of your new container (in server.xml).

    2. To make the necessary ADF and JSF support libraries available to your deployed ADF application, the default application (that your ADF application and the majority of applications should inherit from) should explicitly import the shared library in the <orion-application> element of $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/<your container>/config/application.xml.
