Which schemas can be removed?

I'm trying to recover some disk space on a machine that has an Oracle DB that is used by a single application. I believe I can do this by eliminating unecessary/unused schemas. There is a single schema devoted to the application so I'm not going to be messing with that but I would like to remove any schemas not needed by Oracle to handle our one active schema.
I know some of the schemas, such as SCOTT and SMITH are provided by Oracle and are used in tutorials, most of the others are a mystery. But even with the tutorial schemas, I don't know if eliminating these schemas will cause problems.
Below is the list of schemas from this DB., what can be eliminated?
Thanks for any help or advice,

Hiya Beeky,
I'm with the others on this. Based on your last reply I would add a simple point. If you are trying to learn about Oracle you may want to retain the example schemas that come with the installation (SCOTT etc.) . They might be useful especially when following tutorials etc.
Bear in mind that these sample schemas don't use up a huge amount of space anyway, at least in todays terms. I don't recall exactly but I think we are talking about hundreds of Mbytes at most and consider your average laptop nowadays comes with a standard 2 Gbyte.
As others have pointed out , have a look for things that are using up large amounts of space. Also you can try a query something like SELECT SUM (BYTES) /1024/1024, SEGMENT_NAME FROM DBA_SEGMENTS ORDER BY 1 DESC; to give you an idea of what segments (and thus objects and their owners/schemas) are using up most space.
Best Regards

  • Example Schemas - can we remove

    Hi All
Can we remove the expired and locked users! Say for example HR, HR Schema - OE - OE Schema and the default schemas that load with Oracle 9 Rel 2. I suppose these schemas use example tablespace or so.
    Please assist me regarding this
    Thanks
    Ravi

Not only can you remove them, you should remove them, at least from production systems. Even if the accounts are locked, it is best practice to only include the things you actually need. The recent exploit using a vulnerability in the Text schema is a chilling reminder of the backdoors that people introduce into their systems by unthinkingly installing everything rather than just the bits the application uses.

  • Which system_drv can i remove?

    I have a T420 with a 500Gb HD.
I have added a 128GB MSATA SSD with windows 7 installed on it using the recovery DVDs.
Today I noticed that both drives have a system_drv partition the one on the 500GB drive is labled D:
Am I correct that I can remove that one?
Also it is labled as active.  Drive Management says the drive will not start if I remove it.  Is this ok? can I make my main partition Active?
    Thanks Everybody.

My advice would be to follow these steps:
    1) Uninstall msata (just for the time being)
    2) Recovery install win 7 on original HD (back up all of your important data first!!!)
    3) Before "first boot' Create a baremetal copy (image) of your OEM install (your recovery install) using Acronis, Goast, or I like the (free) open source ReDo Backup and Recovery (redobackup.org), and store your image where ever you archive data.
    (3a-3 optional)
3a) Do your "first boot", install all updates, and set up the operating system the way you would if you were going to use it (But don't put your backed up files on there!!!)
3b) Do a full systems clean:
    From tweakhound.com:
    "Setup Advanced Cleanup
Press the Windows + R keys, type cleanmgr /sageset:50 .
Select the options you desire, I choose them all. Click OK and close out the window.
Press the Windows + R keys, type cleanmgr /sagerun:50 .
(note - there is a space between the r and the /)"
    3c) Defrag
3d) Create another image of your HD
OK, now to the good stuff: Because Lenovo is currently trying to fix their RapidDrive tech (the programming that makes your OS think that your SSD and your regular HD are all one disk) I would recommend doing a clean install of of Windows 7 (because, during a clean install win 7 will see that you have a SSD and will help configure your setup for you.) If you feel up to it, do a UEFI install of windows 7 (UEFI is what is expected to replace BIOS.) The main benefit is that you will be able to use a GUID partitioning system (As apposed to the standard Master Boot Record). You can google to learn more about GUID and UEFI if you would like, but in simplest terms, its just a better way of doing business (eventually UEFI will allow your OS to boot even faster, and GUID uses a backup registry that helps correct data corruption as it happens..aka self healing registry.)
    4) Clean install.
I have run out of time for this reply, but I will leave you with a few links and Google suggestions.
Great info on Clean installs: http://www.tweakhound.com/windows7/install7.html
They also have links in that article to learn all about SSDs.
Also, Do some googleing for lenovo support articles for doing a clean install.
Finally, do some googleing for UEFI windows install.
Might take a few days of reading, but I advocate reading as much as possible before doing a clean install on such a nice, new, laptop. If you have questions, I will try to check back in later and post more. (If you are near Indiana, I run a computer repair shop and could do the work for you, or at least talk you through it.)

  • A new programme has installed a button on the navigation bar that I can't remove by the usual method

I recently installed freemake video converter. It has put a button on the navigation toolbar which I can't remove by the usual drag and drop method customising toolbars. It has taken the place of my bookmarks button at the right hand side of the navigation toolbar.

You can't remove it by drag and drop in customize toolbars because it is only for Firefox components, not 3rd party extensions.
I am sorry, either you need to un-install the extension using the Add-ons Manager or contact Freemake. You can also look out if you can disable that button by going to Add-ons manager and selecting Options button FOR Freemake extension.

  • Can't remove clip

    I can't kill it!
I have a library clip with a window UI object in it. I place
the attached code into the window.
Now another script attaches the said clip into the storyline.
When I click the 'close' button, it says "clicked" and tells me the
object I'm trying to remove does exist. But it doesn't go away.
Is it me or are windows evil?

    components are evil.
in this situation you're using a v2 component that occupies
the greatest depth (2**20) at which movieclips can be removed using
actionscript. you then instantiated _root.view_mc and set its depth
using getNextHighestDepth() which placed it at a non-removable
    depth.
to remedy, use swapDepths() to move it down to a removable
depth (anything between 0 and 2**20 that's not already occupied).
or, maybe you placed view_mc on-stage in the authoring
environment so it has a depth of about -2**14 which isn't removable
    either.
again, to remedy, use swapDepths to move it to a removable
    depth.

  • [Solved]Which partitions...removed on Windows 8.1...laptop...dual boot

I'm looking to dual boot Arch Linux and Windows on my laptop I recently purchased. It came with the following partition setup.
I assume I can remove the backup partitions, but can I remove the 500 MB EFI partition and replace it with a new EFI System Partition? Will I also need a separate boot partition as well (or can the kernel images just go on the Linux partition)?
Also, this guide does all of the partition management on Windows itself. Is this safer than using the gparted live-cd?
    Thanks in advance.

    Stop.
    Breathe.
Read up on UEFI, EFI System Partitions, and EFI boot managers.

Why would you want to do this?
    Save space.
    This makes no sense.
I heard the order of the partitions for booting on a UEFI system matters.
It doesn't. Your ESP doesn't even need to be on the same disk as your OS.

    Mudassar

    Hello Mudassar,
In SQL Server / T-SQL we don't have a native JSON support, so you would have to implement a solution on your own = parsing the string and remove the "Key" + it's value.

  • HT1923 hi, my mac air is really low on disk space, can i remove iTunes (which is huge) to an external hard drive to free up space and then just run it from the hard drive. instead of taking space on the mac? even if the mac no longer has enough to accommo

Hi, my mac air is really low on disk space, can I remove itunes (which is huge) to an external hard drive to free up space?...and then run it from the hard drive instead of the mac, even if the mac no longer has space to accomodate the size of the library?

    Yes.
Copy your music iTunes Library folder to the external drive and change the Advanced settings in iTunes to point to this new location.
Once you're happy with these changes you can delete the same Library from your User account to free up space on the internal drive.

  • Can we remove timestamp which is added infront of the file name, in archive

Can we remove timestamp which is added infront of the file name of datafile which was imported succesfully , in archive folder, i have a requriment to move file from archive folder  to another folder, but programmer is finding diffficulty in moving the file which has time stamp, he can move file with date stamp, but not able to move file which has time stamp, is there is any option in MDIS.Ini file or anywhere in import manager or console to modify the file names , or remove timestamp when file is moved in archive folder.
does anyone faced similar issue, require help.........

    Hi,
Moving file from Ready directory to Archive directory is MDM internal process and I strongly feel it is not possible to control the naming convention of File to be placed in Archive directory.
But you can explain what problem you developer is facing while moving file from Archive directory to some other directory..then we can think about solution to acheive this. Also on which operating system you MDM server is installed.

  • Upgraded to LR5.7 and PS Elements 13.  Using a SSD which is becoming Full! Can I remove older versions of these programs without affecting the functionality of the new programs?

Upgraded to LR5.7 and PS Elements 13.  Using a Solid State Drive which is becoming Full! Can I remove older versions of these programs without affecting the functionality of the new programs?

Yes, there is no need to keep previous versions of software on the SSD (or on your computer).
Also, you didn't mention this but if the photos are on the SSD, you should move them off the SSD to a regular hard disk using these instructions: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders

I have some items in my download queue which apparently I can’t remove. The items are large (several gigs in total) and I’d prefer to not have to download them, but am annoyed by the fact that it keeps wanting to resume downloading whenever I start iTunes. I’m surprised there’s no way for me to delete it from the queue. I’d appreciate if you would remove these from my download queue.

Once you have them on you Mac disk drag them onto the iPhoto icon in the Dock. Or onto the open iPhoto window. Or in iPhoto file menu ==> import
