Which type of text field should I use?

I am having a problem selecting the best object to use to display and control text. If I use a TextArea component, I have problems controling it with code and I hate getting caught up in Hbox and VBox layout issues. Also, I cannot seem to generate a TextArea in ActionScript.However, I can create a listener with a valueCommit event which allows me to respond to changes to its content. Can I create a TextArea with AS?
On the other hand, I can generate a TextField with AS and then control exactly where it appears, but I cannot find an event that allows me to respond when the contents of the TextField changes. Is there an event that responds when the contents of a TextField changes dynamically?
Thanks for your time.

TextField is smaller and faster.  It should dispatch a CHANGE event when the user types, but no event if you programmatically set the text.
It also depends on whether you need scrollbars or not.  You can certainly create a TextArea in AS3.

  • Which Type of Airport Card Should I Use

    I have a Flat-Panel iMac Early 2003 G4 and I want to set it up on a wireless network. I currently do not have an airport card and I wanted to know what kind I should use the regular or extreme.

    You have to determine which G4 variant you have--some use the original card and later ones use the Extreme.
    Assuming you have OS 10.3 or later, Do "About this Mac..." from the Apple menu and, in the resulting window, click "More Info..." That brings up the very useful System Profiler. The first Profiler screen you see is Hardware Overview and holds your answer.
    Look at the line, "Machine Model"--could also say "Machine Identifier" if you have Leopard OS, but should be the second line. If the code is "PowerMac4,2" or "PowerMac4,5" you neeed the original Airport card. If it's "PowerMac6,1" or higher, your iMAc takes teh Extreme card.

  • What type of blank DVD should I use to record photo images that are on my drive E

    I own a HP Pavilion dv5000 with an RW DVD + R DL multi recorder.  My question, which type of blank DVD should I use to record images that are on my drive E?  I can record without problems on a CR-R but when I try a blank DVD-R it won't work.  Please advise.

    Hi,
    Back to the good old days, HP supported only DVD +R discs, some vendors supported DVD -R discs. Now all vendors support both. You may want to try blank DVD +R. Hope this works. Please post back the result.
    Regards.

  • Yoga 13 MSIE10 can't type into text fields

    New machine Feb 2013 used exclusively in laptop mode. Has been great overall but right out of the box I could not type text into any form fields using Internet Explorer 10. What an intro to Windows 8! Discovered I can type text in notepad, then copy and paste it into fields but cannot enter it directly. This was happening with the factory installed software so if it's a third party app conflict it's one that's original equipment. Thankfully Chrome works fine, but sometimes I need to use MSIE and am quickly reminded why I can't.
    Google and Lenovo forums are mum on this subject. Some suggestions pointed to SFC /scannow, which came up with a litany of things it couldn't fix. Enhanced protected mode in MSIE also did not help. Didn't appear possible to reinstall MSIE (where's the DOJ when you need them?) What's next?  Thank you all for your assistance.

    hi dserdu,
    Welcome to the Forums.
    Are you having this issue on the desktop version of I.E. or the Metro version?
      - if the issue only happens on the metro IE, try to open the Desktop I.E. > press ALT+T > choose Internet options. On the Internet Options, go to the Programs Tab, set I.E. to Always and check the box "Open Internet Explorer tiles on the desktop"
    - Link to picture
    Alternatively, if the issue is compatibility between the website and the I.E. versions, you can run I.E. 10 in compatibility mode or on a lower version (i.e. I.E. 9, I.E. 8., ...etc.). To do this:
    1. Open the Desktop I.E. and press F12
    2. On the developer tools, choose Browser Mode IE 10 and choose an I.E. version (i.e. IE 9)
     - Link to picture
    3. When dnoe, press F12 again and observe if you can now type into text fields.
    Let me know your findings

  • What type of hard disk should I use if I want to use it on mac and windows?

    Hey Forum,
    I am using windows xp on my macbook (snow leopard). I came across some dealers who say that there are hard disks for mac only and for both mac and windows. So, I wanted to buy a hard disk so that I can use it both on mac and windows xp, so what type of hard disk should I use? Must I partition into 2?
    or are there any harddisk in the market which is compatible for both mac and windows xp without screwing up the format(NTFS/Mac OS X Journaled)? Pls look into this matter and help me with it.
    All of your replies and suggestions is much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Ala.

    Run, don't walk, from that dealer! and never look back
    Once in a very long while Apple will have customized firmware on drives, and it is possible to find SCSI/SAS or drives that are destined to be used with high end storage controllers.
    But that is the exception that makes the rule.
    SATA is SATA. Though.... there are now SATA III drives that don't work in XP, or that need a jumper, and Seagate and some drives have managed to deliver firmware that has caused trouble... and Apple has had to issue firmware updates to help compatibility....

  • What type of vga cord should i use?

    I just purchased a mac mini and it is on its way. I have a 22'' memorex lcd tv and it has a VGA plug in. What type of vga cord should i use? Theres male to male and theres male to female. Which cord should i use and does any1 know a site i can order it off of?
    Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    i just did a quick google search for for dvi to vga cables, without the use of an adapter...
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=dvito+vga+cable-adapter&btnG=Search
    the first site that came up...
    http://www.datapro.net/products/1145.html
    these cables would allow you to hook up the monitor without using the adapter... would just save a little bit of space if depth is at all an issue, or the visibility of the cable sticking out that far back.

  • Which Version of Windows 7 Should I use?

    I hve a fairly new Macbook Pro. Mid 2012 Version just before the new display came out. My question is, which version of Windows 7 should I use? I've noticed that I can purchase either the 32Bit or 64Bit version, but I am not sure and don't want to load something that might be bigger than I need. I'll only be using Windows to run The Sims 3. This means over 9 expansion packs+ and their EA store content.
    Here is what I am running on my mac:
    Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro9,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i5
      Processor Speed:          2.5 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          3 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Boot ROM Version:          MBP91.00D3.B08
      SMC Version (system):          2.2f38
      Serial Number (system):          C1MHN1TNDTY3
      Hardware UUID:          8CCE66F6-C4B6-5EDB-9CE7-FFB43E25F89D
      Sudden Motion Sensor:
      State:          Enabled
    As you can tell this isn't a higher end Macbook Pro, as it was a gift, but I am unable to play the game without it crashing since they do not have an updated patch for Mac users - and it is very unlikely that they will even care to update the patch. This seems to be the only guarenteed fix. I appreciate any help I can get, I just need responses soon so I can take advantage of the low prices for Windows 7 before they run out.

    Microsoft will be supporting Windows 7 with full updates for another two years, so you won't have to worry about supplies running out any time soon.

  • Type in text on a page, use that text in an animation

    Hi
    I've been reading up and starting to play with Edge Animate CC, but I can't write any of the code myself. (I used to be a programmer so I can "read" it, but I haven't learnt any languages in years.) As well as my video job I am also the Director of a children's theatre company and I have an interesting idea which I hope Edge Animate can do...
    Our show is improvised from children's ideas, they help us write a book. We'd love to have an animation of a book on screen which has the title we've been given by the audience. We don't have time to add the title to an After Effects animation and render it out, but I did wonder if we could make the animation in Edge Animate and play it live in HTML5. Ideally we'd have a text box, our live tech would type the name into this, and then an animated webpage would appear which uses the text they've typed in.
    So how do we do this? Need to store input from a text field, hide the text field after (so our tech can turn on our live screen without showing it), then play an animation which includes the words stored from the input.
    I have no idea if this is possible or where to start! Does anyone know or want to experiment with the basics of it?
    Thanks
    Matt Andrews

    Yes, I believe you could do this. You can store the value of the input text and then load it where you want in the composition.
    Below is how an input field works:
    var message = sym.$("message");
    inputMessage = $('<textarea />').attr({'type':'textarea','rows':'10', 'cols': '25','value':'', 'id':'message'});
    inputMessage .css ('font-size', 14);
    inputMessage .css ('background-color', '#0a81fb');
    inputMessage .css ('box-shadow', '#0a81fb');
    inputMessage .css ('width', 350);
    //inputMessage .css ('height', 200);
    inputMessage .appendTo(message);
    Below is how you get the value:
    var messageInfo = inputMessage.attr("value");
    Then you could put it in another text field somewhere:
    sym.$('anotherText').html(messageInfo);
    Or something similar.

  • Periodically can't type in text field

    We just rolled out 9 new Mac Minis and all are having this problem, but I don't know if it's the hardware of the OS (10.5.1). All users are complaining about this, though older machines are not exhibiting this problem.
    When they are working in various programs (but all are PPC binaries), suddenly they can not type in a text field (i.e., in a cell in Excel or in a text or number field in Quickbooks). The solution is to click outside the current field, then click back into the field and they can type again. But it happens enough to be very annoying.
    I called Apple support and they claim to never have heard of this problem (but then they always say that even when a fix appears on the 'net later that day).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks...

    I have a similar problem and it is ******* me off.
    I bought IK multimedia ARC and on my powerbook G4 running 10.5.1 all is fine however, on my macbook pro running same system I can't type the preset name which means I can't use ARC for now.
    I also noticed a similar problem while using sibelius 5.1 and trying to type in a name for a preset of the playback devices. I can type but only one character every second or so and I must hold on the key for a wile, resulting in multiple characters, then deleting the extras!! strange.

  • Which version of PC suite should I use to copy all...

    I have an old Nokia 6610 which is on its last legs. There are about 130 text messages stored on the phone itself, in various subfolders within "My folders", one message in the Archive folder, and about 8 messages in the Inbox (the Inbox messages are stored on the SIM card - Vodafone Pay As You Go). I also have 14 pictures stored in a "Pics" folder in the Gallery. All my Phone book entries are stored on the SIM card. The text message memory is virtually full, and I often have to delete existing messages before new ones will arrive.
    My computer is a Power Mac G4 running Mac OS X 10.4.11. For those that are interested, it's this model here:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac_g4/stats/powermac_g4_1.25_dp_mdd.html
    On the Mac I have Microsoft Virtual PC 7.0.2 which runs a copy of Windows 2000 (5.0.0.2195 Service Pack 4) under emulation.
    I have a fake/third party DKU-2 cable which came with a CD which contains the installer "Nokia_Conn_Cable_Driver_150_2_eng.exe" and the installer for PC suite 6.6.
    Many months ago I ran the "Nokia_Conn_Cable_Driver_150_2_eng.exe" installer (within the Windows 2000 Virtual Machine) and also installed the latest Windows 2000 compatible version of PC Suite that I could find at the time - 6.86 (the installer file is called Nokia_PC_Suite_rel_6_86_9_3_eng_web.exe).
    The software installed successfully, and it seemed to detect the phone via the DKU-2 cable, but I wasn't able to access any of the information on the phone. This isn't really surprising, given that the phone wasn't really directly connected to Windows - it was going via a Mac USB 1.1 port, masquerading as a port on the "PC".
    What I am wondering is what software do I need to use so that I can copy all the text messages from the phone (& the 14 pictures too if possible) to my computer, preferably with the sender names & folder structure intact, so that when I buy a new Nokia phone, I can copy them all to it? I've not decided on which new Nokia to buy yet. It might be the N95 8GB, the N96, or perhaps just a basic model. It will be a current model though, not a second hand one.
    My first choice would be to use software that was Mac native, but I'm not sure if there is any that would do the job. My second choice would be for software that could run on the Windows 2000 Virtual Machine. If neither of these options are possible, I could borrow my Dad's 6 month old PC laptop, which runs Windows Vista Home Premium, and use that.
    If anyone has any experience/thoughts on this, I'd greatly appreciate their (detailed!) input & advice. Although I've very experienced IT-wise, I have zero experience of mobile phone software.
    Many thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Just to follow up from my previous post - I did indeed decide to keep the 6220 classic as my new phone.
    Yesterday I installed the Nokia_Conn_Cable_Driver_150_2_eng.exe driver from the CD
    that came with my third party/fake DKU-2 cable onto my Dad's Windows Vista Home Premium laptop. Knowing through 15 years bitter experience working with PCs that once a newer version of a piece of software has been installed on a PC, it can often be impossible to subsequently install an older version, even once the newer one has been successfully "removed", I decided to install the 4 versions of PC Suite at my disposal in version order, with the oldest first, and if a version didn't work, to uninstall it, and then install the next oldest one, and so on.
    I started with the version that's on the CD that came with my 6610 - version 5 point something. The installation went fine, and after re-starting, I followed the instructions to connect the phone to the computer with the cable. Unfortunately a Vista error message appeared saying there was a problem with the "unrecognised" USB device. PC Suite meanwhile just got stuck in a loop trying to connect to the phone. (The phone was switched on & unlocked!). After trying unplugging & replugging the phone etc, I uninstalled PC Suite, and then tried the same thing with the next oldest version of PC Suite that I have. This is version 6.6. The exact same problem occurred. I then uninstalled that and tried a version I had downloaded many months ago - version 6.86.9.3. The same thing happened, except this time after a while PC Suite gave up trying to connect and displayed a box offering links to places like this website that might help me solve the problem. I then uninstalled that, and then installed the current version of PC Suite - 7.0.8.2. The same thing happened as with 6.86.9.3.
    There are, to my mind, 2 possible explanations for all this. Either the data socket on the phone is damaged in some way, which is possible, given that the phone got wet back in February and had to be repaired, and the first repair shop i took it to managed to dislodge the charging socket (which is right next to the data socket) during their botched attempts to fix the phone (another shop fixed this), OR, as I hope is the case, the cable is the wrong one, despite it fitting perfectly.
    I've noticed that in several places (the phone's manual, readme files that come with the various versions of PC Suite, etc) that the DKU-5 cable is mentioned far more often than the DKU-2, which suggests that maybe I need a DKU-5. Also, if you go to the PC Suite download page and select the 6610, the cable that's mentioned is the CA-42. Another alternative is that the DKU-2 I have just doesn't work, given that it's not a proper Nokia cable.
    Does anyone have any idea which cable I actually need to use to get the PC to talk to the 6610?
    Also, in case you were wondering, the reason I tried 4 different versions of PC Suite rather than just the current version is that I've read on these forums that certain newer versions of PC Suite don't have certain features that certain older versions do, depending on the phone in question. This has caused much frustration for people, judging by the comments I've read. Given that what I want to do is to copy all the text messages from the phone (& the 14 pictures too if possible) to my computer, preferably with the sender names & folder structure intact, it may be a case that an older version of PC Suite will allow me to do that, but a newer version might not. This is especially true given how old the 6610 is. Of course it may be the case that an old version of PC Suite that allows me to copy the texts & pictures to the PC won't work with my new 6220 classic. If that's the case, I hope that I can install the current version of PC Suite over the top of the old version, and then copy everything onto the new phone.
    If anyone has any firm ideas about what cable (& version of PC Suite) I should be using, I'd be most grateful.

    I have Version 32.0.1700.77 running on a Mac. This problem started with Firefox a little while back and no amount of updates or uninstalling/reinstalling has fixed it. And therefore I have switched to Chrome.
    When using Firefox, any text field, including the address bar, will not allow me to type into it. I will get a BONK sound. Once I hit the Tab Key, I can begin typing. But if I stop typing and click any other area, then come back to the text field, I must again hit the Tab Key. Or if I want to edit the text field, I can highlight a word, but for it to delete, I have to hit the tab Key then hit Delete.
    Why is it doing this?

    hello, please try to [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems|reset firefox]] and see if this can address the issue...

  • How do I clear a form text field during validation using JavaScript?

    I am just learning JavaScript and the Acrobat API.  I have a form created in adobe acrobat 9 standard (starting from an existing form in MS Excel).  There is a text field for a Social Security Number.  I have a custom format script and keystroke script and a custom validation script. I would like to add to the existing validation script, that if what is entered doesn't match the validation test, then clear out the field as in erase all the characters that were typed into the field.  I want this to happen no matter what.  So even if someone filled in a valid SSN number and then moved to the next field, but then went back to the SSN field and decided to change their entry and this new entry was "invalid" then clear out the field (do not revert to what was typed in the field originally, even though it was considered valid by the script).  (There is currently no default value for this field.)  Thank you inadvance for you help on this.
    Here is the current validation script:
    // only run when field not blank
    if (event.value != "")
    // RegExp for validation #########
    var re = /^(\d{3})(\d{2})(\d{4})$/
    if(re.test(event.value) == false)
    app.alert("Enter a 9-digit Social Security number with no spaces or special characters (e.g., 555555555). It will be converted to the format 555-55-5555.")
         //Here is where I've tried adding all of these lines, but none of them will clear out what is in the field
              //this.resetForm([event.target.name]);
              //event.target.value == "";
              //getField("SSN 1").value = getField("SSN 1").defaultValue;
              //getField("SSN 1").value == "";
              //event.rc = false;
    And incase these are somehow affecting it, here are the other scripts being processed on this field:
    Keystroke script:
    var input=event.value;
    var chars=input.length;
    if( event.willCommit || chars==8 )this.getField("Name 1").setFocus();
    Format script:
    var re = /^(\d{3})(\d{2})(\d{4})$/
    if(re.test(event.value) == true)
    // add "-"
    event.value = RegExp.$1 + "-" + RegExp.$2 + "-" + RegExp.$3;

    Thank you very much.  I did try that before, but I was using event.value == "";  I guess in this case I'm assigning the value of "", not making the value equal "".

  • Which type of code sign should I buy? simple of EV one?

    Hi,
    I have a desktop application which I need to publish to windows store. I have signed for developer account but now I need to sign my desktop app and for this I need to buy code sign certificate. I have decided to buy digicert one, but my question is which type
    of code sign will I require? There is two types, one simple and one EV code sign.
    Will simple code sign serve my purpose of submitting my current desktop app to windows store?
    Also can I use the same simple code sign certificate (not EV code sign) to sign my metro style apps created by me later?
    Thanks.

    Some will say none. That they have never used a screen protector and never will. Others always use them. I'm one of the latter. I have a Zagg screen protector on my iPad. They are expensive but they come with a lifetime warranty, so if it gets damaged protecting your device they exchange it for free.
    I have found that you get what you pay for with screen protectors. Buy a cheap thing off amazon, you'll get a cheap thing that probably won't stay on your device.

  • Finding which version of OS X should I use for my old MacBook black

    I have an old MacBook (black4,1) 2.4 GHz Inter Core 2 Duo; 4GB memory.
    I had to format it, so it is currently running on OS X 10.5.8. I would like to upgrade the Operating system to the latest version that fits this specific machine.
    At home a new iMac running on OS X 10.9.2, so I would like to at least be able to sync the basics over iCloud.
    Any clues on which version of OS X could/should I use?
    Thanks a lot.
    Matias

    It appears you can upgrade to Lion.
    Computer Compatibility - Lion                       Lion
    Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

    You will need to upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6) to download Lion.

    There is limited iCloud capability in 10.6, although it isn't supposed to support iCloud.
    Mountain Lion/Mavericks require a MacBook model 5.1 or higher.
