White spaces in bind variables

While calling a Report(based on sql with a bind variable) from a Form and passing a value with white space to the bind variable gives the following error:-
Error: An unexpected error occurred: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error (WWV-16016)
Also, attempting to translate white spaces is not helpful for bind variable.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Gopi.

Thanks for you replay Reddi,
  Let me explain the scenario: The scenario is RFC --> XI  --> JDBC, one of the element of the FM sometimes could be have the value "      ", when this occurrs in the SXMB_MONI TC I see the value null in the element, that is the tag is <Element />, in this case I need to preserve this white space in the element. The message could be something like this:
<root>
  <element1>value 1</element1>
  <element2>value 2</element2>
  <element3>      </element3>
</root>
but I see the message in this form:
<root>
  <element1>value 1</element1>
  <element2>value 2</element2>
  <element3 />
</root>
In the message mapping tool I assign the string value "      " and the problem still the same.
  Any Idea?

  • Bad bind variable & best practice for delete

    I am working with three tables and very new to SQL. I need to create a procedure that will accept an ID and go through two sub tables and delete child records. Item is the main table. I am passing in the ID into the procedure and I want to use it as below. I keep getting a bad bind variable error message. I have verified that the table is setup as a number and my procedure accepts a number. I also want someone to review this from best practice as I am new to procedures.
    PROCEDURE DeleteItem (p_ItemID IN NUMBER, p_RowsAffected OUT number)
    IS
    p_RowsAffected NUMBER;
    -- select the itemdetail for the analysis
    CURSOR c_itemdetail
    IS
    SELECT
    itemdetailid
    FROM itemDETAIL
    WHERE itemid = :p_ItemID;
    BEGIN
    -- loop through each itemdetail and delete the itemdetailoutlay
    FOR r_itemdetail IN c_itemdetail
    LOOP
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEMDETAILOUTLAY
    WHERE itemdetailid = r_itemdetail.itemdetailid;
    COMMIT;
    END;
    END LOOP;
    -- delete the itemdetail
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEMDETAIL
    WHERE itemid = :p_ItemID;
    COMMIT;
    END;
    -- delete the main item
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEM
    WHERE itemdid = :p_ItemID;
    COMMIT;
    p_RowsAffected := SQL%ROWCOUNT;
    END;
    END DeleteItem;

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
    As you may notice, this site normally compresses white-space. Whenever you post code, or any formatted text, on this site, type these 6 characters:
    \(small letters only, inside curly brackets) before and after each section of formatted text, to preserve spacing.
    I don't think you mean to use bind variables anywhere, so don't use colons before any variable names.  You were doing this correctly with p_RowsAffected; do the same thing with p_ItemID.
    Try this:PROCEDURE DeleteItem (p_ItemID IN NUMBER, p_RowsAffected OUT number)
    IS
    -- p_RowsAffected NUMBER;     -- Don't name local variables the same as arguments
    -- select the itemdetail for the analysis
    CURSOR c_itemdetail
    IS
    SELECT
    itemdetailid
    FROM itemDETAIL
    WHERE itemid = p_ItemID;     -- No : before p_ItemID
    BEGIN
    -- loop through each itemdetail and delete the itemdetailoutlay
    FOR r_itemdetail IN c_itemdetail
    LOOP
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEMDETAILOUTLAY
    WHERE itemdetailid = r_itemdetail.itemdetailid;
    COMMIT;
    END;
    END LOOP;
    -- delete the itemdetail
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEMDETAIL
    WHERE itemid = p_ItemID;     -- No : before p_ItemID
    COMMIT;
    END;
    -- delete the main item
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEM
    WHERE itemdid = p_ItemID;     -- No : before p_ItemID
    COMMIT;
    p_RowsAffected := SQL%ROWCOUNT;
    END;
    END DeleteItem;
    The most important "best practice" with PL/SQL is to avoid doing it whenever possible.
    If SQL offers a way o do the same thing, it's usally best not to code anything in PL/SQL.
    Have you considered foreign key constraints, with "ON DELETE CASCADE"?  That way, you could simply "DELETE FROM item", and all the dependent rows in the other tables would automatically be deleted.   You wouldn't need to remember to call a procedure like this; in fact, you would have no need for a procedure like this.
    Given that you do have such a procedure:
    You're doing row-by-row processing, which some mad wags like to call "slow-by-slow" processing.
    For example, iYou're xplicitly finding each ItemDetailID separately, and deleting each one separately, like this:... CURSOR c_itemdetail
    IS
    SELECT
    itemdetailid
    FROM itemDETAIL
    WHERE itemid = p_ItemID;
    -- loop through each itemdetail and delete the itemdetailoutlay
    FOR r_itemdetail IN c_itemdetail
    LOOP
    BEGIN
    DELETE FROM ITEMDETAILOUTLAY
    WHERE itemdetailid = r_itemdetail.itemdetailid;
    COMMIT;
    END;
    END LOOP;
    It's more efficient for the system (and less coding for you) if you let SQL handle as much as possible, so do this instead...     DELETE FROM ItemDetailOutlay
         WHERE ItemDetailID IN
              ( SELECT itemdetailid
              FROM     itemDETAIL
              WHERE     itemid     = p_ItemID
    Do you really want to COMMIT 3 times?  0 or 1 times might be better.
    What happens if there is some kind of error, say, after you've delete rows form ItemDetailOutlay and ItemDetail, but before you've delete from Item?  Wouldn't you want the entire transaction to fail, and leave all three tables in a consistent state?  If so, either have the calling procedure COMMIT, or have a single COMMIT at the end of DelteItem.

  • JDeveloper Error: White spaces are required between publicId and systemId.

    I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.3.1.0.
    This error is occurring in a BPEL process project.
    With one particular web service I have, adding a Partner Link to the BPEL generates the following compile error:
    Error: White spaces are required between publicId and systemId.
    I can add Partner links from other web services and the BPEL will compile fine. The main difference I can see is that this web service supports WS-Addressing.
    I have found one other reference to a similar (but not exactly the same) problem elsewhere in these forums but the fix is not really applicable. All of the wsdl files pass the "Validate WSDL" operation, and I don't see anything wrong with them.
    When the error occurs and I select "Go To Source" it points back to the first line of the bpel file.
    Can anyone help me out on this?
    This is the wsdl for the web service, wsademo.wsdl:

    I have discovered two issues.
    1. JDeveloper does not seem to like the SOAP 1.2 envelope and encoding namespaces. Is this a known limitation? Changed them to 1.1.
    2. JDeveloper does not like the double definition of wsaDemoResult.
    When these two items are changed, the bpel compiles clean. Now I've got to get the message header to populate correctly. There are no values assigned, only namespace definitions. This is the SOAP packet that is received at the web service.

  • White space in XML source code

    Ok, I have tried all of the tricks to prevent white space in the code.  The page displays fine, but there are 4 lines at the top of the source code making the file not vaild.  Ideas?  Thanks in advance.

    You can use the reset attribute of CFCONTENT to clear any output, such as whitespace, that occurs before the CFCONTENT tag.  See quick sample below.  If this doesn't work for you can you post your code?
    <cfsavecontent variable="sampleXml"><?xml version="1.0"?> <!--- no line break or other space between opening cfsavecontent and xml declaration --->

            <name>Jon Smith</name>
            <name>Rose Tyler</name>
        </people>
    </cfsavecontent>
    <!--- use reset attribute of cfcontent to clear output above cfcontent tag, do not include any whitespace between close of cfcontent and start of output --->
    <cfcontent type="text/xml" reset="yes" /><cfoutput>#sampleXml#</cfoutput>

  • Extra white-space after page proccess

    I am trying to suppress white-spaces after the page is
    processed.
    Usually it doesn't bother me, but it does bother javascript.
    Explanation:
    1. I am sending an xmlhttp request to coldfusion to process.
    2. Coldfusion runs a stored procedure on an oracle database
    that returns the results as XML.
    3. Coldfusion returns the XML back to the client:
    <cfoutput>#XmlParse(ajaxXML)#</cfoutput>.
    4. The client (Javascript) runs the function that handle the
    data and returns an error because: "
    xml declaration not at start of external entity".
    I have tried using cfsetting with the attribute:
    enablecfoutputonly="yes", but still the result is the same.
    Any idea or lead in the right direction would be greatly
    appreciated.

    The XML that the DB returns, looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <rowset>
    <row>
    <column_name>value</column_name>
    <column_name>value</column_name>
    </row>
    </rowset>
    After playing with code for a while now, I believe that the
    problem is not with the returned XML.
    The page that runs the SP is the page that call the SP. What
    means that the white-spaces are the code that the Coldfusion engine
    has already processed (although, the condition that checks whether
    the form variable that Ajax request, exist. Is the first thing on
    the page). to my understanding, the returned XML should be at the
    top of the page.
    I hope that I was clear enough.
    Thank you.

  • Problem with white space

    Hi,
    I do an insert in a table. I try to insert a white space in a varchar2(1) field. I use parameter query.
    But when i try to do this, odp.net insert a NULL value instead of the white space.
    Is there a parameter to change to avoid this problem ??
    Thanks in advance.

    Not sure if this is exactly the issue but
    you could try the current Patch 4147997
    ODP.NET Patchset 9.2.0.4.15
    or try a Workaround of binding parameters as Char which does not remove trailing spaces:
    cmd.Parameters.Add(new OracleParameter("data",
    OracleDbType.Char,10)).Value=" ";
    or
    cmd.Parameters.Add("data",
    OracleDbType.Char,10," ",
    System.Data.ParameterDirection.Input);

  • All sqls executed by an user with a timeframe with bind variables.

    10.2.0.4 Version.
    Is there a way to get list of all the sqls executed by an user between time t1 and t2 with bind variables along with the stats from v$sql.
    I am able to get binds from v$sql_bind_capture for an user but not able to restrict to the time frame I want.
    Thanks for help in advance.

    Enable 10046 trace (level=12) for the sessions in question.
    Make sure you have enough free space available as this could result in a huge file depending on session's activity.

  • How to get rid of a white space?

    I have cfscript codes that look like the following:
    <CFSCRIPT>
    if (listFind("2,3,4,5,6",getEmp.EMPID))
    varPAEN = "";
    if (listFind("5,6,7", A_New[13]))
    varLangEN = "If you are not a member of this forum, please
    register";
    if (listFind("2,3,6",getEmp.EMPID))
    These online forums are for user-to-user discussions of
    Adobe products, and are not an official customer support
    #varLangEN#. If you require direct assistance on our
    products please call 1-800- etc....
    </CFSCRIPT>
    The problem I have is when the variable varLangENG is empty,
    it creates an extra white space within the sentence. So instead
    user seeing :
    "These online forums are for user-to-user discussions of
    Adobe products, and are not an official customer support .
    If you require direct assistance on our products please call
    1-800- etc...."
    They see and extra white space before the period:
    "These online forums are for user-to-user discussions of
    Adobe products, and are not an official customer support . <<
    If you require direct assistance on our products please call
    1-800- etc...."
    This is not the only sentence affected. Please help if there
    is a solution. Thanks!

    Thinking outside of the box, or space as the case may be.
    Move the
    leading space character into the variable definition. Then if
    the
    variable is empty there is no space before it.
    varLangEN = " If you are not a member of this forum, please
    register";

  • Bind variables in double quotation marks are not recognized

    Hello,
    when I do "Execute Statement" (F9) in the SQL Worksheet and the statement incorporates a bind variable in the form :"Some Variable", i.e. variable name is in double quotation marks, I will get an error message "ORA-01008: not all variables bound". No prompt for entering the bind variables is displayed. Our application uses this kind of bind variables only and it is quite time consuming to change all the bind variable names before executing it especially when bind variable names contain spaces. Is there an option to enable recognition of this kind of bind variables? If not I would like to see this annoying issue fixed.
    I am running Oracle SQL Developer 1.5.1 build MAIN-5440.
    I am connecting from the Windows XP SP2 (32bit) box to Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.2.0 (64bit) using Basic connection type.

  • Report Performance with Bind Variable

    Getting some very odd behaviour with a report in APEX v 3.2.1.00.10
    I have a complex query that takes 5 seconds to return via TOAD, but takes from 5 to 10 minutes in an APEX report.
    I've narrowed it down to one particular bind. If I hard code the date in it returns in 6 seconds, but if I let the date be passed in from a parameter it takes 5+ minutes again.
    Relevant part of the query (an inline view) is:
    ,(select rglr_lect lect
    ,sum(tpm) mtr_tpm
    ,sum(enrols) mtr_enrols
    from ops_dash_meetings_report
    where meet_ev_date between to_date(:P35_END_DATE,'DD/MM/YYYY') - 363 and to_date(:P35_END_DATE,'DD/MM/YYYY')
    group by rglr_lect) RPV
    I've tried replacing the "to_date(:P35_END_DATE,'DD/MM/YYYY') - 363" with another item which is populated with the date required (and verified by checking session state). If I replace the :P35_END_DATE with an actual date the performance is fine again.
    The weird thing is that a trace file shows me exactly the same Explain Plan as the TOAD Explain where it runs in 5 seconds.
    Another odd thing is that another page in my application has the same inline view and doesn't hit the performance problem.
    The trace file did show some control characters (circumflex M) after each line of this report's query where these weren't anywhere else on the trace queries. I wondered if there was some sort of corruption in the source?
    No problems due to pagination as the result set is only 31 records and all being displayed.
    Really stumped here. Any advice or pointers would be most welcome.
    Jon.

    Don't worry about the Time column, the cost and cardinality are more important to see whther the CBO is making different decisions for whatever reason.
    Remember that the explain plan shows the expected execution plan and a trace shows the actual execution plan. So what you want to do is compare the query with bind variables from an APEX page trace to a trace from TOAD (or sqlplus or whatever). You can do this outside APEX like this...
    ALTER SESSION SET EVENTS '10046 trace name context forever, level 1';Enter and run your SQL statement...;
    ALTER SESSION SET sql_trace=FALSE;This will create a a trace file in the directory returned by...
    SELECT value FROM v$parameter WHERE name = 'user_dump_dest' Which you can use tkprof to format.
    I am assuming that your not going over DB links or anything else slightly unusual?
    Cheers
    Ben

  • How to Dene a Data Link Between Queries: Bind Variables

  • Blank white spaces on pages

    Hi,
    For some reason, on my website it is showing some random blank white spaces? They appear to be in the same places on each individual page so I was wondering if it could possibly be anything to do with the master page? In preview mode, both on Adobe Muse and on the browser, it appears to be fine but as soon as I've put it up on to the website, the white spaces are evident and I need to get it fixed ASAP.
    My website is http://beckyofficial.businesscatalyst.com/index.html
    Although, please ignore the poor quality of my website for now; it's still under construction.
    If anybody here could help me, I'd be really grateful.
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Can I use bind variable instaed of writing static COLUMN Name

    Hi , I am having a table containing id and column names, the data is stored against that id in other tables. Now I wish to update data into another table so that it goes into apppropriate column without using decode function.
    I am trying to do this:
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'update TEST set :1 = :2
    where PROJECT_ID= :3 and UNIQUE_ID= :4' using P_DEST_COLUMN, P_TEXT_VALUE, P_PROJ_ID, P_TASK_UID;
    the values P_DEST_COLUMN, P_TEXT_VALUE, P_PROJ_ID, P_TASK_UID are populated using a cursor in PL/SQl
    Is this statement valid? If not can you tell me how to do it as I am getting some error I am unable to comprehend.
    thanks
    Rishabh

    Column names cannot be substituted at run-time as bind variables. If you need to specify the column name at run-time, you'd need to construct a new string and execute that string dynamically, i.e.
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'UPDATE test SET ' || p_dest_column || ' = :1 ' || ...From a data model standpoint, storing column names as data elements in another table is generally a rather poor idea. It's likely to make ad-hoc reporting nearly impossible and to cause a lot more parsing than would otherwise be required.
