Who is the thief in consuming CPU

Hi,
We have machines installed with Sun OS, with following configuration. We have <b>web logic 8.1 SP2</b> server installed on this machine.<p>
Upon this we have SUN IdM(Identity Manager) Application deployed. We also have some small inhouse applications deployed on this server.
<p>
Initially when we started working on customizing the IdM,It was working fine but now,(may be after we deployed all other application on weblogic).IdM has started working slowly, meaning real slow.
If I go onto the solaris machine and check the processes, The JVM used by IdM is consuming 50% CPU , I think it is rather JVM used by the weblogic instance on the machine.
<p>
I was trying to figure out why this is happening but did not get any information.
These are my questions:<p>
--If there are many applications installed on weblogic , can we know if weblogic is slow, which application is reason for that.<p>
-- If we figure out certain application is taxing the weblogic server are there ways to figure out which class/servlet is making cause this.
Thanks,
pandu

Hi patel,
Thanks for your reply.I have gone through the procedure but I was not able to figure out any thing from the thread dump

  • Why is the Dock application consuming CPU?

I got a new MacBook Pro 15" retina display, migrated my data from my old mac, and now the Dock application is consuming a ton of CPU on the system.
I have found many other threads in these forums, many of them quite old. They typically suggest a problem with VMWare fusion or Parallels, neither of which I have on my system. They also suggest removing the com.apple.dock.plist file and killing the application, which did not help, nor did removing all applications from the dock and quitting all other applications.
What else can I do to try and fix this problem?

Have you tried restarting the computer? Also,
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
You can also kill the Dock process using Activity Monitor.

At first sight, this does seem contradictory - but there are two or three reasonable interpretations, and you'll have to check the AWR report for the period to decide which is more appropriate:
Option a) Oracle is consuming 9% of the host CPU - perhaps there's something else going on that's consuming the other 91%. There is a section in the AWR that can confirm this:
    Operating System Statistics
    Statistic                                       Total
    AVG_BUSY_TIME                                  93,560
    AVG_IDLE_TIME                                 269,814
    AVG_IOWAIT_TIME                                     0
    AVG_SYS_TIME                                   56,261
    AVG_USER_TIME                                  37,170
    BUSY_TIME                                  13,490,550
    IDLE_TIME                                  38,870,398
    IOWAIT_TIME                                         0
    SYS_TIME                                    8,119,694
    USER_TIME                                   5,370,856
    LOAD                                               59
    OS_CPU_WAIT_TIME                              347,700
    RSRC_MGR_CPU_WAIT_TIME                              0
    VM_IN_BYTES                                   106,496
    VM_OUT_BYTES                                        0
    PHYSICAL_MEMORY_BYTES                 308,227,858,432
    NUM_CPUS                                          144
-------------------------------------------These times are in hundredths of seconds (usually) - we can check busy_time and idle time to see if the CPU is 100% used despite Oracle only using 9%. (Also check the other CPU figures that relate specifically to Oracle).
Option b) You are only using 9% of the CPU, but ADDM can see that (for some processes or statements perhaps) that elapsed time = CPU time, and wants to give the message that there is an opportunity for improving these statements by tuning. (Given the comments about wait times being affected by CPU usage, though, I doubt if this is the case).
Option c) There was a least one version of Oracle where some of the critical timings were reported in milliseconds rather than hundredths. This resulted in some silly conclusions when the ADDM could see SOME figures which were actually out by a factor of 10. Possibly one piece of arithmetic is showing 90% but the report you're looking at is showing 9% because of this code error. (Again, you have to cross-check the O/S CPU statistics with the Oracle CPU stats to check this theory).

  • Java threads consume CPU in sleep state (??)

    Hi,
I'm using the PRSTAT command on Solaris for the first time.
I am investigating high CPU usage problem in my application. So to monitor the CPU usage I used the prstat and mpstat command. My machine is a 2-CPU box.
The prstat -L -p <pid> command output is as follows:
PID     UNAME  ... ....  STATE           CPU      PROCESS / LWPID
    2962   bea                   run           7.6%           java / 5
    2962   bea                   run           5.6%           java / 38
    2962   bea                   run           5.6%           java / 22
    2962   bea                   sleep         5.5%           java / 21
    2962   bea                   sleep         5.4%           java / 36
    2962   bea                   cpu2          5.2%           java / 23
    2962   bea                   sleep         5.1%           java / 29
    2962   bea                   run           5.1%           java / 37
    2962   bea                   sleep         4.9%           java / 34
    2962   bea                   run           4.9%           java / 15
    2962   bea                   run           1.1%           java / 12
    2962   bea                   sleep         1.0%          java / 33
    2962   bea                   run           0.6%           java / 14
    2962   bea                   run           0.0%           java / 17
..... This shows that of all the threads in my app only one thread(23) is currently on the CPU and is using 5.2% of CPU. But why are the threads in sleep and runnable state consuming CPU?
Also the mpstat output shows high CPU usage:
CPU minf mjf xcal  intr ithr  csw icsw migr smtx  srw syscl  usr sys  wt idl
      0   8   0  366  428   61   994   387  40   70     0 10941  95   4    0    1
      2   3   0  370  1003  563 1362  648   42   61    0  5374    92   2   0    6If my application is taking only ~57% according to sum of values from prstat, why is my mpstat showing 95% and 92% usage on EACH of my CPUs...??
I'm unable to interpret the result.
Any help would be really useful to me at this moment.
    .

    Hi,
Your question should be posted in a unix forum instead of a java forum. The question, and the answer is not related to java.
The reason that prstat shows processes in sleaping state is that it doesn't create a snaphost at one point in time. It does instead show an average over some time (don't know the period), so the process has been running and consumed cpu, or is generally running, but currently sleeping.

  • If your iPad is stolen, how do you know if the thief has reset it?

So my iPad was stolen (I know who did it, etc, Police know, whateves.) However, I hear that even though I put it in lost mode, put an activation key on it, and have activated the Find my Iphone, I know there are ways of erasing my iPad completely. So here's my question: If you go to iCloud or to your Apple Support where it lists the device registry for all devices you have, does that disappear the moment your iPad is erased? Or is there any clear indication of whether or not the thief cleared the device? Thanks!

If the iPad was running iOS 7, the thief/finder will not ever be able to use it.

Yes. If it was signed out from iCloud, it will disappear from the Devices list in Find my iPhone.

  • Finding Current High-Consuming CPU SQLs

    Hi All,
How do we find SQL's consuming most CPU at the current moment. If I find SQL's from V$SQLAREA and sort descending based on CPU_TIME, it may be idle sessions as CPU_TIME gives the cumulative cpu time. Current high-consuming SQL may not even figure on top if cumulative cpu time is less. I am interested in finding top 10 SQL's at the current moment. Is there a way we find the top consumers of CPU?
    Thanks,

you can use top, nmon or topass command at OS level to find out PID consuming maximum CPU and resources .. you can use this PID and qury against

  • Adobe 10.1.7 will not close in task manager after you exit the program. High cpu

    Hello,
Updated to 10.1.7 and noticed that when you close the program an instance of acrobat stays open in task manager with high 50%+ cpu usage. Will not close at all unless you end task. if you open adobe again a new instance opens again consuming more cpu and cripples the machine with high cpu. This is on win 8 64bit machine. Had the previous release 10.1.6 working for some time on the same machine with no issues.
    Thank you in advance

Identical issue with Acrobat XI Pro on Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. After viewing PDF file, upon closing Acrobat, a new Background Process starts called Adobe Acrobat (32 bit) uses 18% of cpu.  I have left run for three to four hours and does not close.  If I open another PDF file and then close, a second Background Process of Adobe Acrobat (32 bit) start, also using 18% of cpu.  I was able to open a third PDF file and upon closing a third Background Process of Adobe Acrobat (32 bit) start, also using 18% of cpu.  I did not try more.  All three consume over 50% of processor and after an hour does not close.  Fan and cpu begin to run hot so I manual End Task.  I tried Repair Acrobat Installation command, did not fix.  After searching forum used the Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool (http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html) to uninstall.  Then downloaded Acrobat XI Pro from My Adobe account login.  Reinstalled software.  Issue gone, could not replicate even after several hours of trying.  Then Checked for Updates. After updates installed, loaded and brought to version 11.0.3, problem returned as before. I have PDF files on both local drive and NAS, been able to recreate issue on both.  In a PDF intensive environment, I was having to leave the task manager up and occasionally stop Background Process of Adobe Acrobat (32 bit) so as to keep processor usage and fan speed down, thanks to Goateye01 for the suggestion, I now leave Acrobat open and close the files, this way the background process hang does not occur.  Additional Note, only able to create issue with standalone application, issue does not occur when in IE10 and viewing PDF files.   Hopefully a fix or helpful guidance coming soon?

  • IPAD AIR - Lost and Stolen. Can the thief use my locked device?

MY iPad Air was lost/stolen while crossing the border between Hong Kong and Lowu (Shenzhen).
The device is locked. Under the support/my devices it shows that my iPad is registered with Apple and I do have the serial number for the device handy.
I tried to use "FIND MY IPHONE" and the device does not show up. It is possible I did not activate that function although this is unlikely.
Can the thief use my device by erasing all the data? Can Apple trace the device and if so, who do I report it to at Apple ?
    Please help.

    Thanks for your reply.
I also read somewhere that in the event I use the remote function via iCloud to delete the contents of the iPad, the thief could then use it. I have no intention of doing this.
I have just secured myself for now and changed all my passwords including the Apple user ID one.
I guess my best bet would be to report and register the number to the local authorities in case it gets returned / shows up by some good samaritan ?

You cannot lock it by the serial number. Report it to your carrier and the police. You said that the thief knows your pass code. Does that mean that the thief was a personal friend who would be close enough to you to know what your code was? If that is the case, ask your friend to return your phone.

  • What the different of zone.cpu-cap & zone.cpu-shares?

    Hi folks,
anyone who can explain the different of zone.cpu-cap & zone.cpu-shares? I'll be thank for the response.
    Thanks

In a nutshell, caps set an upper bound and shares set a lower-bound for the amount of CPU that a zone gets.
    zone.capped-cpu
    As stated in zonecfg(1M):
Sets a limit on the amount of CPU time that can be  used
by a zone. The unit used translates to the percentage of
a single CPU that can be used by all user threads  in  a
zone,  expressed  as  a fraction (for example, .75) or a
mixed number (whole number and  fraction,  for  example,
1.25).  An  ncpu value of 1 means 100% of a CPU, a value
of 1.25 means 125%, .75 mean 75%,  and  so  forth.  When
projects  within  a capped zone have their own caps, the
             minimum value takes precedence.
The capped-cpu property is  an  alias  for  zone.cpu-cap
resource  control  and  is  related  to the zone.cpu-cap
resource control. See resource_controls(5).If you set a capped-cpu to 2 on a 16 processor machine, the zone will never get to use more than the equivalent of two CPUs. That is, it could end up with lots of things in the run queue while the system has idle processors because the zone has hit its CPU cap.
    zone.cpu-shares
zone.cpu-shares interacts with the fair share scheduler. It goes with the idea that a CPU is a terrible thing to waste. By setting the CPU shares for a particular zone to a value, it makes the zone get a minimum of a calculated percent of CPU if it is needed. The percentage that the zone gets is based on:
    (this zone's zone.cpu-shares) / sum(zone.cpu-shares across all zones)
    So, if z1, z2, and z3 are zones with 10 50 and 40 CPU shares, z1 would get at least 10% (10 / (10 + 50 + 40)) of the CPU time, z2 would get 50%, and z3 would get 40%. However, if z2 and z3 are idle, z1 could use 100% of the system's CPU resources.

Replying to my own post - heh. I downloaded iExplorer (http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/) which allowed me access to the files on the phone and there was the phantom movie in the DCIM folder. Deleted it, and all is well - although I still have 0.65gb of Other in iTunes.....
