Whose post was removed?

Dear moderators,
I just received 3 "Apple Discussions - Post Removed by Host" messages. Personally, I don't think any of them deserved to be removed. They directly answered the questions posed by the original posters. No doubt the original posters didn't like said answers, but that is their problem.
However, I think the moderators really went too far when removing the posting:
I really thought Apple was going to replace the FireWire 400 with the FireWire 800. But I see that it was removed. Again. Not even the new SD slot that the other Books have. So now what? USB 2.0 is to slow. I need the Target Disk Mode, and that needs FireWire.
... especially since I didn't make that post, "Apple //GS" did
Either there is a problem with the Apple discussion database, or someone is using my e-mail address.

No problem. Plus it gave me a chance to slyly "get the last word in". No one's ever thought of that before.
I just hope the post moderation process isn't a manual one. That wouldn't be good. But a corrupted database index isn't good either.
Let me know if you need a post removal beta tester.

I have replied to the post : http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2578237&tstart=0
And gave detailed explanation about the original poster's scenario ..
Why did my post get deleted ??
Will you also just delete this question ???

If your post was found to violate the Terms of Use (link at the right of this page), you should have gotten an email notice from the Hosts. That should explain the reason.
If you weren't notified, your post may have been removed along with an offensive one from another poster, usually because without the one that was removed, it may not have been clear what you were talking about. In that case, you were an "innocent bystander," and the Hosts don't send you a notice.
As long as you were being helpful and polite, and didn't get a notice from the Hosts, don't worry about it. Happens to all of us, now and then.

    Hello,
Probably you will see the message “Starting database” associated with the message you posted above. This may occur when SQL Server Express Edition is installed on a computer and databases have the “Auto Close” option set “On” (by default is “On” on Express
    Edition).
Set “Auto Close” off for all databases using the following article:

    Hope this helps.

  • My posts were removed

    Hello Admin,
I have been participating in the Java Essentials category since September 2010. From the past couple of weeks, most of posts were disappeared or removed, even though that was marked as "Correct" or "Helpful" by the OP. I have lost around 45 to 50 points by this informal removal. I am totally disappointed with this. I have a couple questions which are as below,
    1. Is there any specific reason for this removal?
    2. Should this forum be answerable only by specific persons?
The answers will help to get some clear idea about this OTN forum.
    Thanks
    Ram

    A suggestion:
Go back and review the active conversation you've been a part of in the following thread...
How can i rewrite this code into java?
After looking at that thread, my initial reaction is that forum is way too picky, the moderators need to learn some chill.Let's not tar all moderators with the same brush. : )Why not? If a particular moderator in a particular forum is out of line, it colors you all, and Oracle corp.Only in the eyes of the beholder. I, and the other moderators, don't work for Oracle, we're just volunteer members. One bad egg in the box doesn't make the other eggs bad. Treat each as an individual. ; )
It's a newbie forum! I'd be totally with Ram on this one, I think it is perfectly appropriate to answer such a question with a pointer to docs, and after some discussion, even demo code. Spoon-feeding would be initially giving code without any discussion or pointers. A better answer might have been to point out the actual error, but there can often be better answers. The moderators remit is to deal with spam and help out with duplicate posts etc. It shouldn't involve removing posts just because someone has spoon-fed an answer to the OP. We know spoon-feeding is wrong and unhelpful in teaching the OP, but it doesn't warrant the post being removed.
All removals are judgment calls, that's why clear guidelines are necessary. I think [url http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=3217111#3217111]hjr described this most clearly a few years ago (and I thank Justin again for a general hands-off attitude, whatever the reason). To me it is painfully predictable that moderators are as herdable as programmers, so something like a moderator faq is necessary.
Indeed, and the moderators have been clearly told by the admin to only delete spam (or duplicate postings where appropriate i.e. nobody has yet replied to them). Other "issues" should be raised up to admin to look at and decide.

Hi @moosefood , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I can see from your post that you're experiencing printer errors.  I'd like to help!
Before we get started, I need a little info. I am linking a few HP Support documents below that will show you how to find which operating system you are using. Also, if you're using Windows, please include whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
In the meantime, I'd recommend a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
Please let me know what you find.  Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Device was removed wrong

My firewire hard drive was removed from my g5 2.66 intel . 10.5.8 wrong and now I'm  getting this (Device message ). As a result my computer will not shut down or restart. Also I just loaded final cut pro . I was operating pro tool at the time

It isn't clear that all or any of the things you mention in your post are actually related to one another, but I'd suggest that you reconnect the FireWire drive, see whether the Mac can still detect it, and if so, eject it properly before disconnecting it again. Then see whether the machine will restart or shut down. If it still won't, the FireWire drive probably isn't part of the problem.
Did you finish the FCP installation successfully? If so, quit the installer and the FCP application, and also quit ProTools, before shutting down or restarting.

  • To Discussion Admin: Why did my post get removed?

I posted yesterday on an issue with the Aluminum Powerbooks, whereby the bevelled recess' coating comes off at a specific location (i.e. just under the left-hand Command button). The thread was removed after attracting one reply.
I wonder what was so unacceptable about my post (or the one reply it got). Do you, Aministrators, not tolerate it anymore when legitimate customers (and staunch Apple supporters, I might add) express legitimate concerns?

Thanks for the replies, Rachel and Tuttle! Much more helpful than a blanket removal by Admins
I didn't keep a copy of my post, but I think what Rachel says may have been the case with it, namely, it was more "a complaint with no user-to-user question (i.e. purely aimed at Apple)" and I understand it may not have fitted the Discussion Area environment in the sense that most posts do.
It wasn't inflamatory, though, at least not by any means compared to the many "come on Apple-are you reading this thread?"-type of tirades I occasionally come across in this forum, which are allowed to carry on and pick up momentum, as well.
If anything, I think I expressed some wonder at how Apple may have seemed as not having learned from its mistake with the bad case of TiBooks from 4-5 years ago (mine, listed at the signature, is one of them...) and could be repeating the error in the AlBook's satin coating; also, at how they refuse to examine the cases reported to them, dismissing them as not covered by guarantee. Oh, and maybe the post Subject may have upset someone at Cupertino: "Rant! AlBook paint peels off top case (yes, it is coated!)".
If you check my posts in general, though, I am sure you won't find a nag. I think I am respectful enough.
But, like Rachel suggests, it may be better to send feedback.

  • I have an older iMAC that once burned CD's with no issues. Now I get an error message saying "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device is not accessible, probably because it was removed". I have never had it touched so the device was not removed.Help

I have an olde iMac that once I have an older iMAC that once burned CD's with no issues. Now I get an error message saying "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device is not accessible, probably because it was removed". I have never had it touched so the device was not removed. Please advise as to what could be the problem. How to fix. Thanks

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM first, if that doesn't help try a cleaning disc.....and then buy an inexpensive external burner. Slimline super drive failures are all too common.
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Issues with Creative Cloud/Flash Professional? (Performed system restore, Flash was removed...)

I had done a system restore to restore my computer the way it was 24 hours ago to fix some PC issues (couldn't uninstall some programs that I was going to reinstall to fix performance issues); I have three other Adobe programs of my computer that are still there, but where Flash was my most recent acquisition, it was removed when I performed the system restore. When I tried to re-download the program, CC still thinks Flash is still on my computer; I have uninstalled and reinstalled CC, gone through the program files for traces of Flash (didn't delete or alter anything, but also didn't find anything pertaining to Flash), deleted the Temp folder, attempted to download Flash Professional CC directly from the CC website, but none of these made any changes. Is there any way to manually download Flash, or "reset" CC to get it to notice Flash isn't on my computer anymore?

It still didn't help - it removed CC from my computer, and I reinstalled it, but I've already tried that. It still says Flash Professional CC is still there (I installed Flash CS6, too, as a substitute in the meantime, but I still need Flash CC). Flash Professional CC isn't on my computer anymore - it was deleted in a system restore, but CC says it's still there, so I can't reinstall it. Is there a direct download I can use?

  • I updated to 6. In Tools, blocked cookies and now can never open Firefox. The allow cookies window is stuck. How do I get rid of the firefox browser and go back to 5. I did have malware on computer that was removed, but still ...not working

On Saturday, Sept. 3, I updated to Mozilla Firefox 6. I went into the Toolbar, I think to private browsing, but not sure now. I asked that all cookies be blocked. A window came up from my home page that said "Allow, Allow this session only, Deny Cookies." I said Deny and it told me 19 cookies were being blocked. I have never been able to get the window to leave the browser home page. In fact, I can not make any choice in that window. The window kind of shakes. I went for professional help and did have malware that I had not known was there that was removed. Technician worked 3 hours. It was called "PUM.Hijack.Start." The Mozilla browser is still stuck like that. I am on Internet Explorer, but I would like to have Firefox back again. What steps do I take next?

I am having a similar problem. Running Xp.
    Latest revision of firefox.
After using firefox for a while if I exit, parent.lock is locked and i have to reboot to reload firefox.
I have killed all firefox applications from task manager (usually there are none). and I have tried 3 different "file unlock" programs including unlocker to no avail.
I also recently installed a program that shows -all- open files, and parent.lock is not listed, and thus not closable/unlockable from there.

Restore from the backup you had prior to installing Mavericks.
However, the upgrade should not have altered your partition scheme. Did your erase and format the drive prior to upgrading?

  • HT201240 hi all. i just downloaded mountain lion and it seems to have added an old password for admin at the start up, the old password was removed so all i had to do was press enter and off i go, i cant remember it, what to do now??

hi all. i just downloaded mountain lion and it seems to have added an old password for admin at the start up, the old password was removed so all i had to do was press enter and off i go, i cant remember it, what to do now??

    Eli,
You can reset a Password (lost/forgotten) set on your Mac using 'Reset Password Utility' available with OS X Utilities tool. With OS X Mountain Lion, OS X Utilities tool can be generally found on a local hidden Recovery HD Partition if your Mac has one.
To check If your Mac has got a local hidden Recovery HD Partition, start your Mac holding COMMAND + R buttons. If you hold the keys pressed enough and there is a local Recovery HD Partition on your Mac, you will be presented with OS X Utilities window.
Click the 'Tool' menu item and choose 'Reset password'. Terminal window appears. Type 'resetpassword' into it and press 'Enter'. Reset Password window appears with User Account Names available on your Start-up Volume. Select the User Account Name and rest is simple to follow.
One of the advantages of this method is that it does not require any Authorization method such as administrative authentication to reset a password.
NOTE: If your Mac does not have a local hidden Recovery Partition on its system disk, you can create one using Disk Assistant application available from Apple. Search for the Disk Assistant in the support area.
