Why are Apple Maps so terrible? Not fit for purpose, an absolute disgrace!!!

I am pretty furious about the extremely poor quality of the Apple Maps and I really don't believe that they are fit for purpose and should not have been launched with iOS6.
Maybe they work in the US but in the UK they are terrible, London looks great, but everywhere else is a blurry mess, and even major cities such as Nottingham where I live are unrecognisable, covered in a blanket of cloud!
Come on Apple, this is not on either get it fixed or get Google Maps back.
I am seriously hoping that Google launch a Map App.
I have been a long term Apple fan, currently have an iPhone 4 (5 being delivered tomorrow) and and iPad 3... but I will reconsider future purchases if iOS is not sorted... don't even get me started on YouTube!

  • Not Fit for Purpose in the 21st Century

    BT
As someone who is on one hand fortunate enough to live in a semi rural area, and also unfortunate enough to live in a semi rural area. I have no other option open to me to use any other network (and I mean network) than BT's.
Having to suffer copper pair over a 4km line to the exchange is one thing. However over the past decade yes 10 years nothing has been done to the line or exchange that warrants me paying full price for a service that is no different to how it was late last century.
I therefore state that your network that "does" carry Voice as well as data is not "Fit for Purpose". I know you will continue to ignore the crys from the rural community for even ADSL2 to be implemented so we can at least try to get better data thruput.
We are now well into the 21st century yet I have to suffer last century technology.
    1) Why should we as rural customers be subgected to higher cost. Yet still see no benefits of higher costs?
    2) Why is it difficult for you to recify problems when all voice and data is carried by BT network?
    3) That you continue to supply services that is not possible for all you customers to take advantage of even though I as a rural customer (with no other options) pay money to ?
    4) Do you believe that "POT LUCK" on your exchange when moving is an acceptable response in the century?
You can no longer hide behind the fact you believe it is "Fit For Purpose" when the purpose of providing a connection has moved away from a simple POTS to much more than that. And this has been so for well over a decade.
It is no longer acceptable just to say "sorry" when more and more every household and busnesses rely on a stable and fast connection speeds.
I and many others feel more and more ripped off and left behind in your cavalier attitude to your customers in areas that you know full well have no other option thyan to use your outdated and frankly poor network.
Please answer these questions without once saying "Sorry" as it no longer washes with me and many others.

    a_c_g_t,
Unfortunately there does seem to be a few issues that may hinder or try to slow the progress in improving services at your exchange.
Firstly at a footprint of approx 386 property then BT Wholesale may not yet see any commercial benefit of upgrading the exchange to the 21cn network. Also if it's a small "shed" exchange (We have some round us that are just like a garden shed) then it may not be able to house the new equipment in it's current state.
Again your exchange has not been unbundled by other ISPs/CPs which would allow them to install their own equipment at the exchange, possible again down to commercial reasons or there isn't enough space in the exchange to install the equipment or the backhaul infrastructure isn't their or won't currently support it.
Parts of the exchange area is "Under Evaluation" under the Connecting Devon & Somerset BDUK programme, though other parts are out of the programme.
Also having a look the exchange area it seems to be mainly Exchange Only lines over a large-ish sparse area, meaning that FTTC may not be justified as not a big enough percentage of properties will be able to get FTTC (if lines were re-routed, a PCP cab built and a DSLAM cabinet installed and linked to that PCP). Again re-routing the lines may be less cost effective than alternative solutions (eg FTTP, though again may not be cost effective, or a wireless solutions may be a better idea).
Also if the exchange is too small to house the new infrastructure or the backhaul network isn't up to scratch then the fibre may come from a neighbouring exchange, however at the moment there doesn't seem to be that many exchange in the area that have fibre.
In your case I would contact your MP (and get neibours and villagers to do so to) regarding trying to get fibre or at least the 21cn network (ADSL2/2+) in your exchange area.
I would also try to contact Connecting Devon and Somerset via https://www.connectingdevonandsomerset.co.uk/contact-us/ to see if they can give you any more info as to if your area is within scope and is a NGA area, if not to see if you can arrange a community meeting with them, the village and your MP.
In the sort term, is their any fixed/non-fixed wireless providers in the area? or satellite broadband?
Hope that all makes sense and is slightly helpful.
    Best of luck

  • It's Official BT HomeHub 3 is not fit for purpose!

Having struggled with BT HomeHub 3 both Series A and B since April and May it is now official.  BT have completley resigned their responsablityies and promises of supplying the latest technology and lightening speeds if you use their HomeHub 3.  They will still stand by their contractual obligations over speeds but fall back on the old chesnut that speeds are dependent on other factors but only if you are using a network cable to your hub.....
Technical Support told me in July that I would be better off getting my own hub at a cost to myself as they couldn't help me.  Recently I tried the BT hub again and speeds vary vastly from WiFi and Cable:
    Wifi:-
    Cable:-
I contacted Technical support and they confirm that they know of the issue, but haven't told customers, but they have referred the matter to Open Reach as they are their hardware supliers.
They knew of the issues from May 2012 so why is it now October and the issue has not been fixed.  They still advise that because of their failure I should go and buy £140 worth of my own kit to replace their sub-standard kit.
I wonder if Trading Standards have heard of the issue and the Advertising Standards Agency have seen their 'Big Boy' Adverts?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    DavidM,
Thanks for the offer but I have spent over 10 hours on the phone about these issues since April and have it been confirmed by second line support in India that the hubs are not fit for purpose.  I am an IT Professional myself and am probably a pain in the side for your first line as they are only script readers not IT people.  Once I had run my own tests on the hub, Db, Frequency hopping etc... I knew it was the hub and not the setup.  One of BT Support's problems is they don't support Linux.... only Windoze and Mac...  Strange as the hubs and all your routers, servers etc. use Linux but they obviously don't understand that serious computer people, generally, only use Windose to fix client's front end issues or if a client insists on it.  Anyway, second line support did understand and the issue is confirmed officially as of yesterday.
"Buy your own hub as ours don't work as advertised"
There is little point in contacting you to go round the roundabout a few more times it is just that many of your customers have these issues and they are banging their heads in frustration as not all appear to suffer the issues.  OpenReach are no doubt dragging their feet on the issue as it is a very expensive mistake unless a firmware update can fix it.

  • IOS4 not fit for purpose (at present..)

I have NEVER had an issue with Apple. Love my iMAC and (until the new OS) loved my 3GS.
However, since upgrading it is running considerably slower. Opening App's take a good 10-20 secs longer at times and it is 'jerky' and seems to stick when I perform normal, day to day operations (text, e-mail, contacts etc)
Today it had trouble with the unlock AND, on two occasions I was unable to answer a call as the touch screen was just unresponsive.
Yes, I know people (the majority of the time) will only post if they have something bad to say BUT, this appears to be a BIG problem for many people who have updated to iOS4.
Apple need to be made aware of this and deal with it ASAP. Make me wonder how much pre-testing there actually was? At present, it's not really 'fit for purpose' and if there is anyway to downgrade back to the previous OS, I would without hesitation.
An update to address the issues would be appreciated.

I was under the impression that (in the UK at least!) the EULA is irrelevant as your statutory rights would take precedence. The _Sale of Goods Act of 1979 as amended in 2003_ states:
    14. Implied terms about quality or fitness
    (1) Except as provided by this section and section 15 below and subject to any other enactment, there is no implied term about the quality or fitness for any particular purpose of goods supplied under a contract of sale.
    (2) Where the seller sells goods in the course of a business, there is an implied term that the goods supplied under the contract are of satisfactory quality.
(2A) For the purposes of this Act, goods are of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking account of any description of the goods, the price (if relevant) and all the other relevant circumstances.
(2B) For the purposes of this Act, the quality of goods includes their state and condition and the following (among others) are in appropriate cases aspects of the quality of goods—
    (a) fitness for all the purposes for which goods of the kind in question are commonly supplied,
    (b) appearance and finish,
    (c) freedom from minor defects,
    (d) safety, and
    (e) durability.
If something therefore becomes 'not fit for purpose' one would assume that it's a simple matter of mentioning to Apple/your mobile provider that it's in breach of the act above and a solution needs to be found before you contact Consumer Direct about the process for the Small Claims Court.

  • How many drive replacements before computer considered not fit for purpose

My Optical drive on my £2500 MacBook Pro has failed for the 3rd time and whilst I am sure my local Mac centre will fix it again I am beginning to feel that my Macbook Pro isn't fit for purpose.
Has anyone else managed to have one replaced for repeated Optical Drive Failures?
    Cheers
    NIck

I had multiple fails but also some other problems - I'm not sure if that helps, but they did swap the machine, so it is possible. But you need some luck in finding the right person to help you in the Apple Store.
I bought a Macbook Pro in 2007... put simply, it was a total lemon. 2 superdrive failures, the screen went, logic board, keyboard, plus RAM problems. And Apple would simply not replace it. Repair after repair. Back and forward to the Apple Store, wasting days of my life - and getting that "scratched record" response that they wouldn't replace it was so frustrating.
In the end, I just got the right employee at the right time, and I'm afraid its as arbitrary as that. The guy worked in the Regent Street store, and he had dealt with me a few times. He instructed me to come back with all my repair paperwork (so make sure you keep all yours). So I came in with 6 repair documents and they swapped the machine. It was a final Superdrive failure that triggered the eventual swap.
Alas the next machine did not fare much better - TWO MORE Superdrive failures, a keyboard, case and two screens. Rubbish.
I just bought (reluctantly) a new i7 MacBook Pro - and guess what - Yep, the optical drive DOESN'T READ CDs!!! Spits them out. Straight out of the box and AppleCare are telling me to take it into a store to get it fixed.
Seems that quality has dropped through the floor. I hope you get sorted out.

  • Why are my Flash Videos now not playing for customers outside my Domain?

Hi folks. Please help me out here. I'm using Adobe Connect v.
6 Presenter to develope technology enabled learning. I've published
several Flash Video files to my TEL server, which hosts Connect
v.6. They were able to viewed by students outside my USGS domain
and since about the middle of March, the videos will not start for
them. What the heck? If anyone can help me, I'd be much obliged as
I am do to start beta testing on a Presenter TEL course on May the
    8th! Yikes!!
Also, my server is in an Active Directory structure where
Windows Downloads and patches are automatically loaded at a certain
time in the early morning. Not sure if a security patch is doing
this or not, but I would gratefully appreciate any assistance.
    Thank you!!

    wolfeyes...
Not sure if this is the case...but, by chance, did you change
the videos to a different version of flash? Say converted to flash
8 versus flash mx. I know that in prior versions of connect, you
had to have MX as Flash 8 video wouldn't play...If they're the very
same video files that suddenly aren't playing...then I have no
    answer...
    Peace.

  • IChat AV - not fit for purpose

I love Apple stuff. I love the way stuff just works.
But iChat AV is the fly in the ointment. The sand in the vaseline, the worm in the Apple.
Take a look through this forum and see just how many people can't even make a connection. This is just unacceptable, If iMovie failed with an obscure message every time you connected a camcorder, it would get fixed. Garageband does not need a two page explanation of which keyboard settings work. iDVD does not spontaneously fail claiming that the user did not insert a DVD.
iChat needs re-engineering to make it more robust - or at the very least it should provide more help when it fails.
Networking is tough. Firewalls make it tougher.
Yep it is. But Skype works through almost any firewall. It makes only outward connections. iChat could adopt a different model of networking and avoid the problem which makes it so unreliable. I want iChat to work in a hotel room. I need it to work behind an office firewall. Telling the user to open ports on the router is NOT a solution.
"Hello, it that the hotel manager? Dude could you open some ports in your firewall? I need to say goodnight to my kids."
Telling the user to check preference settings in Quicktime should not be necessary either. It's an Apple product - it should not need technical support.
iChat does not explain what the problem is.
If iChat is going to require the user to indulge in router voodoo, it should have the courtesey to diagnose the problem.
    Instead we get:
"user did not respond" - hint - he did.
"insufficient bandwidth" - hint - there was plenty
    and so on.
We need: "port XXXX was not open for incoming UDP traffic."
We need a "diagnose connection" button.
I have a degree in computer science. If I can't get it to work, what hope is there for the rest of mankind.
Test addresses - what are they good for?
Apple should provide test addresses that mean something. I can connect to appleu3test01. I can watch the video! My buddy can connect to the same server. We both see video. Yay - We both have working iChat configurations. Until we connect together and blam - "user did not respond".
Poll - When is this going to get fixed?
    1) Never - iChat is only for home use with people with Airport routers. It works for them - everyone else can swivel. Sorry.
    2) Soon - Apple is licencing the Skype technology and creating a super sexy skype client with HD Video!
    3) Never - Apple knows that when Skype 2.0 finally appears with video on the Mac - everyone will migrate and iChat can be phased out.
    4) Real soon now. The next version of iChat will feature an "order new router" button.
If you think this post has merit, please respond and someone might notice.
    Glyn

    H Windyriver,
For a large number of people using iChat with PC buddies there are no issues.
The people posting here are the ones that come across problems.
    <hr>
Slightly on the more general theme.
Most people want something that works like a web browser.
Most people accept that not all web pages work properly without always knowing why.
The Browser companies claim all sorts abut their particular Browser and how compliant it is.
Ask any Web designer if they have to allow for different browsers doing different things ?
Look at HTML and CSS code that needs to be different for IE on a PC Or this one that needs javascript to do in some browser that others don't need.
It is a concept change that is needed.
iChat is more like an On-line game. It needs your equipment to be set up to allow it to work.
What most people ignore is that SO does AIM
AIM 5.5 and 5.9 instructions and
    http://www.mvldesign.com/videoconferencetutorial.html
Apple and AIM have a contract for allowing .mac names to work on the AIM service --
So why doesn't the new Triton work with iChat ?
AIM/AOL are the people re-doing their app. Whose problem does that make it ?
AIM for moving the goal posts ?
Or apple for not keeping up ?
Remember that iChat is a third party AIM client. Apple have already made it work with the AIM and Jabber services.
    It's not all bad news
I have a G4/1Ghz Dual at the bottom of the specs for multichat with only a 64VRAM card and 256RAM in it.
My interenet connection is 1Meg down and 256k up.
This upload speed is below the iChat min for multichats But I can.
The min speed for an internet connection for any 1-1 video chat is 100k but the connection will often highligh that you have dropped below this and the chat is still connected.
Ecamm.com are out there busy pushing the boundaries of iChat specs and other Add-ons.
Please keep posting constructive comments and posting them to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ichat.html
Remember it may be easier to say
" Can I have a routing log in the iChat error messages ?"
Rather than "iChat does not work it's your fault !!"
The people on these boards are other users willing to help ofr at least offer up ideas that will help the situation you find yourself.
We do not work for Apple.
We won't always say whether we agree or not with any satements about the product.

  • Why are Apple Mail and Addressbook not listed?

In Support, neither Apple Mail nor Addressbook are listed on OS apps. And if you go to Feedback > Product Feedback, there are 31 apps listed, but Apple Mail and Addressbook are not listed there either. Mac OS X is, so you need to use that for these apps.
But I think the lack of listing is not so bad, but is indicative that Apple doesn't seem to embrace these apps the way it does it's other OSX built in apps. They are basically good apps. I use them as my default apps along with iCal in order to always be in sync with the latest OSX release/update. I used to use 3rd party PIM apps but then had to always wait until they released their update to be in sync with the latest Apple OS. After awhile I realized the smarter approach was to use Apple's software as much as possible since they will be designed to work with the latest OS upon the release of the latest OS.
But the built in apps: iCal, Addressbook and Apple Mail, while sufficient, are not full featured robust apps like their 3rd party competitors. I have to assume some this is financial since they are included in the OS where as 3rd party apps cost $40 and up, plus upgrade costs after a certain cycle lifespan.
Personally, I never want to use a calendar, contact manager or email 3rd party clent again so that I am fully in the Apple family with hardware and software all made to work together.
If the reason these type apps are not more robust is because Steven didn't feel we needed more, or because there are only so much design and programmng resources Apple can apply to essentially "free" apps, I would welcome a paid for "Pro" version of these apps to pay for more features.
Example: while iCal and Addressbook sync with all your devices, Apple Mail doesn't. Now that I have a new 2nd computer (MBP), I would REALLY love it if all my folders on the left column were identical on both my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro.
There are other feature requests I would make, and bet you would too.
I hope this is helpful to all and to Apple in terms of making their indigenous apps more robust for us, listing them in the OSX apps list in Support and Feedback and embrace them as signature Apple apps fully supported, developed and proud of.
    Just my opinion.
    Steven

Example: while iCal and Addressbook sync with all your devices, Apple Mail doesn't. Now that I have a new 2nd computer (MBP), I would REALLY love it if all my folders on the left column were identical on both my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro.
My Mail syncs, I don't know why yours doesn't. All the folders on the left of my Mail App are identical on all of my Macs and my iPhone.
In Support, neither Apple Mail nor Addressbook are listed on OS apps.
Granted, Contacts (No longer AddressBook) is not listed.

  • E75 - Not fit for purpose!

I started out as a happy chappy when my company decided to ditch the Orange SPV650 (Win Mobile) and go with a good quality Nokia device.  I mean longer battery life and a smarter looking phone is a start.
So I get landed with 30 x E51 and 30 x E75.  Both phones will need to communicate with our 2003 Exchange email system.  The E51 with the MfE package installed have worked perfectly.  The E75 is a different kettle of fish.  In fact I would probably get more out of a kettle of fish.
So what problems am I getting with the  E75?
MfE - Says it's connected but will not show any activitiy for several hours.
MfE - When it does get email, it is very slow and can cause the phone to "just reboot". I understand there might be a memory leak.
I leave the phone on overnight and return to find that the timezone has changed from UK to Algiers.  Why??
Messing with Wifi settings causes the phone to crash.
After configuring MfE it can take at least 3 minutes to power on the phone.
Of the first 8 phones I have configured 2 seem to work ok but the rest are buggy as hell.  It seems to me that the user who uses email and calendaring heavily has no hope of a stable phone.
This is all on firmware 100.48.78.  When can we expect new firmware?  I'll try it if it has any possibility to improve this abortion of an OS currently on the phone.
Please Nokia, please can you take a look and sort it out.  What looks like a good business phone is let down on it's stability and inability to communicate to me what the device is doing.  If you look at the MfE package installed on the E51 it tells you where it is in the sync process.  The E75 just says it is connected.  Why did you have to build MfE into the firmware?
Very dissapointed with Nokia and it seems to have confirmed the stories I have heard about shoddy software QA.
    Now who wants 30 x E75 phones?

Some updates to the ongoing saga with this E75 phone.
    1.  A phone call to Nokia Care asking if there are any upcoming fixes for this phone was fruitless.  The supervisor says that Nokia will not directly support companies with less than 200 phones.  Our only chance is to visit a local care centre.  A phone call to the care centre and the employee is unsure if there is anything that they can do.  They would like to see a phone but no guarantee on a fix.  All I want to know is if a new firmware is imminent.
    2.  MfE works well if you are logged into your workstation.  As soon as you logout of your PC the MfE sync fails.  Here is a snippet of logfile taken from the phone showing it working and then the user leaving to go home.

    How weird is that??
    3.  The phone is great when you first start using it.  It becomes a completely unstable phone that crashes at random times once you configure MfE.  With MfE configured, a phone powerup takes over 3 minutes, you get memory low messages at powerup, menus take an age to draw and the screen can freeze at anytime for a good 30 seconds.  It's unusable.
    4.  If you remove the MfE configuration then the phone returns to a good working device.
It looks like a good business phone and our Management like the size, shape and styling.  If only MfE worked.  Why did Nokia have to integrate MfE into the firmware and **bleep** it all up.
    5.  I have tried RoadSync instead of MfE and this works as expected.  The phone is good and fast.  All email, contacts, calenders and tasks work correctly and our heaviest user accounts have not caused the phone any memory errors.  But why should I have to pay $50 for RoadSync when MfE is free and has better intergration when it works?
Please Nokia, sort out this phone.
We have until the 8th August to accept or reject this phone from our supplier and at the moment we are rejecting unless a fix is imminent.

  • E90 not fit for purpose

Not sure if this is true but would welcome any suggestions before I send back my 4th E90 in as many months, and get a Samsung.
I am on the O2 network, this is a brand new E90, sent out to replace my last 3 E90s, got this one on 19th June.
    My firmware version is 7.24.0.3.
When I have tried to upgrade I am told that this is the latest firmware version, for this phone. I know there are 3 updates to this.
Problem 1 is I do not have Agps, and cannot download it to this phone.
2, Satelite fixes takes up to an hour to lock on then keeps loosing the fix.
3, When I finally do get a lock, and set a route, I am constantly asked to purchase maps, I try and update, and am told it is updating then reverts back to purchase maps again.
4, If I should happen to get a route and use it for that purpose, the next day I try again I have to go all the way through the same process again. I could walk from Lands to John O,Grotes in the time I have spent trying to get 100 yards down the road.
On top of these problems I find that I loose signal too many times when talking to anyone on the phone, it is embarassing, to have such a so called top notch phone to keep loosing signal.
Have been on this morning to Nokia and been told that the firmware is the latest one, I had to tell the operative that there were 3 more updates since.
His reply was take my phone to Car Phone Warehouse and get it repaired, its an O2 supplied phone.
O2s responce is to send the phone back and have another replacement.
Final query, does anyone know if I had to purchase the maps or are they supplied with this phone.
I have read on this site and other sites that this phone is the best, I dont think so, or is it just me.

Any phone you get from O2 is going to have its firmware tinkered with by O2. You might save a few pounds on the phone but you end up with a compromised phone. Only way to go is to get a non branded sim free phone. They are noticeably different.
"Pros and cons of paying more for a sim free phone or paying less for a Network phone on contract.
It is important to know beforehand that most networks actually modify the phone firmware on their contract phones and sometimes the modifications extend to more then just branding. A lot of issues that would be brought up here would actually be related to such modifications.
In my opinion Sim free phones are worth that little bit extra because
    1. They have all the options enabled (Some networks disable certain functions such as VOIP on the N95)
    2. You don't have to wait for the networks to approve firmware updates
    3. For some reason they work better and have fewer bugs
    4. No network branding on the phone
    5. Not simlocked"

  • Windows 8.1 File History is completely unreliable and not fit for purpose!

I bought a new computer last week with Windows 8.1 installed and turned on File History.  I've been pulling my hair out ever since trying to get it to work properly to no avail.
There are two inherent problems in File Checker which seem to have went unresolved for over two years now according to numerous posts all over the internet.  Some files are not being backed up at all, and some files which have not been changed are being
duplicated.  From searching the internet, it seems this has been an ongoing issue since Windows 8 was rolled out and it has still not been resolved by Microsoft.
I've tried all of the suggestions I've found such as running system file checker, deleting the File History folder and corresponding configuration files and running File History again from scratch, turning off Homegroups, but it makes no difference whatsoever.
Still I'm finding media, pdf  and word files that are either being omitted or duplicated unnecessarily during backup and it appears to be completely random.
Until Microsoft resolve this major and widespread issue, File History cannot be relied upon to back up user files.  Users need to know that when disaster strikes and they go looking for a file in File History that it's going to be there.  Since
Windows 8 was rolled out, this appears not to be the case.
Microsoft, will you please fix this because the idea behind File History is excellent - if only it would work properly!!

    Hi Htimsc,
I can understand that you feel upset since this feature doesn't work fine on your computer. I have used this feature for a while to backup my files, and haven't encounter such issue. My OS is Windows 8.1 enterprise.
As I known, the issue on this feature can be caused by following factors:
    Not scheduled properly.
Clear up the history so frequently or the free spaces leaves before deleting files isn't set properly.
Disk error you backup files on
If you got network drive used to backup file history, the unstable network connection can be the caused.
    corrupted system files
So we have to determine the root cause of your issue and feedback.
First, File History only protects user libraries, desktop, favorites and contacts. Other files, such as operating system files, applications, and settings, are not backed up. Make sure that the non-backup files are not in this scope.
Another thing is that File History only protects file stored on a local drive.
•If you use offline folders and folder redirection, your folders (like My Documents or My Pictures) are redirected to a network share and will not be protected.
•If you add a network location to any of your libraries, this location will not be protected.
Make sure that all settings a properly and the files were not excluded during set up.
Since the released updates every month will fix some known issue from feedbacks, please make sure that your computer is up to date.

  • How do I get money back on Quickoffice pro as it doesn't work and I cannot email the developers website to ask for support? If you cannot select cells or cell ranges to a sum formula then the software is not fit for purpose and I should be refunded?

I recently purchased Quick office pro HD for my iPad. I cannot get it to add cell or cell references to a simple sum() function. I have looked for support and checked demonstration videos but my app doesn't work. I cannot email the developer's website for direct answer. If this was a faulty good I would take it back to the retailer for a full refund but how do you do that in the app world? I wish I had bought the numbers app instead - what a waste of £13.99.

  • Hypertext links are not always preserved from Word to PDF, using Aperçu or Adobe, depending on OS 10 or Lion. Why? This generally works perfectly in Windows. Why are Apple and Adobe unable to correctly handle links when converting from Word to PDF?

Hypertext links are not always preserved from Word to PDF, using Aperçu or Adobe, depending on OS 10 or Lion. Why? This generally works perfectly in Windows. Why are Apple and Adobe unable to correctly handle links when converting from Word to PDF?
Depending on the system version, and Office Word version:
    - a pure URL link starting with http or even www sometimes works in PDF, either produced by Aperçu or Adobe, sometimes does not work;
    - other kind of links where the text under display is not a URL, never work!
I like everything with Apple computers and software, except PDF generation. Output files are usually bigger in size, and no better quality, than under Windows. Furthermore, it is weird that something as common as hyperlinks does not work correctly!
I related this question with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, but the problem is still there with Mac OS Lion.
This problem seems to have been around for years, without any proper solution from Apple and/or Adobe! To me, this is very embarrassing!

    Greetings NoNameGiven,
If I understand the problem correctly (I’m not sure I do) you would prefer ‘iii’ to be read as “eye eye eye” rather than “three”? The alt text property is the only way that I know of to make this happen. Hope this helps.
