Why are Dataserv so bad at communication

I sent off my MacBook Pro retina and was quoted £1,000 for it. So I thought perfect I'll take that quote and sent it off. A week later it says they still are awaiting receipt of product when it says on parcel force that the parcel has been delivered and signed for. They keep telling me that it'll will be sent off but it's not. I'm fed up with this company. If they say that my device is damaged in any way and I don't get my full £1,000 I am going to sue them for false advertising because I know my device was in excellent condition. If you are thinking of recycling your product with this company, please don't. You are wasting your time. I will never use dataserv again

    Hey X303, With no proof, what do you expect Apple to do? It's a little like going into a bank with an empty box, telling them, "this box was full of gold, will you fill it up again." No company is going to replace a missing non-existent device. With that said, one defective cable, I would say Apple fix it. But four cables?!? That clearly points at something your doing. I have three lighting cables, have had them for over a year-- no issues with any of them. The lighting cables are not as robust as earlier types, but take a look at your habits. Here are things to avoid and things try. Things to avoid: Do you ever pull, attempt to stretch or go beyond the length of the cable. Do you you twist the cable, or bend it sharply? when not in use do you wrap the cable tightly or do you wrap it around something when not in use. Last do you remove or attempt to plug in the cable by grabbing the cable and pulling / pushing. OR things to try: Do you keep the cable loose, maintain a little slack at all times, avoid pulling and stretching. Avoid sharply bending and twisting. When storing, keep it loose. And lastly never plug in or unplug the cable by pulling / pushing on the cable, always handle from the cable end. Hope this helps, Good luck. Cheers.

    This is one of those 'big picture' questions. Sorry for the length. The actual question is at the end.
    I don't claim to be much of a 'designer'. I'm a musician.
    I have a web site I am trying to update to make 'accessible'. And it uses frames.

    I have read the various arguments for not using frames and most of the technical arguments seem a bit spurious (accessibility and search engines both seem to work fine in my tests.) The only one that really makes sense -today- is the inability to bookmark within the site. I have not figured a way around -that-.
    But -every- web design article I have read totally disdains the use of frames. It seems far beyond the technical arguments. So I'm hoping to get some input as to -why- this is the case.
    I use frames for two main reasons:
    1. Manageability. I used to program and the idea of including the same menu code on each page seems ridiculous. Frames seem a lot easier to manage and far less error-prone.
    2. I like having the menu stay in one place as the user scrolls. Like a 'real' application. I -hate- how the menu or page title just scrolls off to nowhere on most sites. It just looks ----so---- ugly to me.
    Anyhoo, sorry for banging on. Other than the bookmark thing, I wonder why almost no designers use frames. I just don't get it. If I ditch frames, it will be a lot of work so I'm hoping someone who knows what they're doing (unlike me) will help talk me out of my delusions.

  • Why are BT so bad at resolving Billing problems?

    I renewed my contract with BT in May 2010 and subsequently moved house in June. I then had 8 weeks without Phoneline and broad band. In the meantime BT deducted a direct debit of about 3x my normal payment and despite 30+ phone calls and too many emails to count, promises that my Bill problems would be resolved, they are still chasing me for money I don't owe. I give up. By the way, lovely people at the Indian call centre but they cannot make any decisions! I have got to the point where I literally hate BT.

    Why not to use sequences? One big reason, efficiency, and one little reason,
    readability.
    The sequence removes possible parallelism from your computation enforcing a
    "join" once all work is completed before moving on. Rarely is the sequence
    necessary, so performance will suffer. There is simply no reason to do A+B=C
    followed by D+E=F because they are independant and LV likely could have
    scheduled them more efficiently on its own! You're enforcing an artificial
    dependancy with that sequence structure.
    Also a big sequence results in lots of local variables, inputs, and outputs
    being generated in different frames. It turns into an unreadable mess. It's
    almost certain that you can wire a neater, more readable data-flow dependant
    diagram.
    What to do instead: an item on the block diagram will not start executing
    until all its inputs are ready. All your diagrams should already be
    conforming to the LV standards guides with error-in/error-out to handle
    error conditions right? In that case the error flow will enforce ordering
    because your VI will not execute until (or unless!) the preceeding VIs have
    succeeded. If NI forgot the error terminals then create your own SubVI which
    runs the functions only when there is no error condition; easy fix and
    handles the error. Why take the measurement if there was a previous error?
    More likely you want to do a different function.
    As another poster suggested, some VIs come without error-in/error-out
    terimals. However since mathematical, boolean, and string functions are
    NEVER order dependant then who cares. When would you want sequences? When
    there is a dependancy that cannot be detected by pure dataflow; when you're
    using local variables, global variables, initializing property nodes, or
    some physical systems. For example, "set the properties for all frontpanel
    controls, THEN start executing".
    In the specific case mentioned, do the digital I/O, wire along error
    cluster, and then if the digital I/O succeeded the analog portion will
    start. You can exploit some parallelism by allowing each to setup in
    parallel, starting the digital-read if both setups succeeded, then starting
    the analog-read, then executing the rest of the program. Right?

  • In Pages 5, why are page thumbnails different sizes?

    So I'm using 5. And I must say I think it's brilliantly done after a long period of ******** about it. I guess I'm not asking of it anything it doesn't provide and what it does it does very well - though I'm puzzled by the behavior of selecting text via the keyboard.
    Anyhow, that's not my question. I'm working with a long text document. I notice that as I work the page thumbnails become different sizes. It's subtle but it's clearly intentional. I reckon it's trying to tell me something but I don't know what. Haven't been able to find any info in the manual and was wondering if any of you clever people here might know. Thanks.

    This is what I meant about how rude you are though.  Your answer DOESN'T EXPLAIN ANY OF THE BEHAVIOUR myself or the other person were reporting.  The only assumption that I can make is that you posted here for the sole purpose of implying that we are both mistaken or stupid. 
    How is this helpful at all?

    I'm not stupid.  I know what a section break is, I know what a page break is.  I'm a writer who has used innumerable word processing programs over the years and have been an IT worker for 10 years now. 
    I have a Pages document.  It has no (or only one depending on your point of view), section(s).  It has page breaks only.  The pagination is set to start at "1" on the first page and proceed normally to the end of the document (300 or so pages).  I am using Pages 5.5.2 on a brand new iMac.  I have NONE of the previous or older versions/types of Pages on my computer. 
    The pages thumbnails on the side, do actually CHANGE SIZE randomly as I am editing the document.   These differing sizes are NOT CORRELATED WITH THE BEGINNING OR ENDING OF SECTIONS.  These size changes are also NOT CORRELATED WITH THE PAGE BREAKS (in case you were about to argue the similarity of page breaks and section breaks).  As I work through the document and scroll up and down editing here or there, the size of the thumbnails RANDOMLY CHANGE SIZE.  Sometimes this is correlated with me working on a section, sometimes I can work on a section and no change happens at all.  The thumbnails that change size often change back again when I scroll back to them later on. 
    So please ... Try to act like a decent human being and either help out, or go away.  STOP POSTING THAT WE ARE WRONG, when you DON'T in fact know we are wrong.  STOP INSULTING ME by assuming I am stupid. 
    Why are you even here if you don't want to actually HELP anyone? 
    To anyone else reading this:  I am having a real bad time with this fellow who is just the most insulting person I have met for a while, however many of my posts about him are being deleted.  If anyone knows (including the mods of this forum) of the proper way to REPORT or get rid of a troll/abuser like him on Apple Support Communities or a place to report his behaviour, please let me know.

  • Disc Burner. Why are some files not readable or writeable?

    Hello,
    I am trying to backup my friends computer files on a beige G3 (233 MHz). I am burning about 6 DVDs of AIF music files. Most of the files are about 30 - 40 Megs in size. Often I receive error messages on particular files that read:
    "The operation cannot be completed because some data cannot be read or written.
    (Error code - 36)"
    Followed by the choices: "Stop" or "Continue".
    I have a bad feeling that my startup disk is too small but I am not sure.
    Most of the files work fine. However some of the files cause disc burner to not be able to use them in the disc image before I burn. Why would this be?
    Here are the specifications:
    Computer: beige G3 with two hard drives (one SCSI and one ATA hard drive) and a Pioneer DVR-110D DVD writer which is Apple supported (Apple system profiler indicates Apple supported on this DVD writer). My blank DVD disks are Sony Vermatim DVD-R (1 - 16x speed support). Although I think my beige G3 only writes them at about 2 or 4x.
    I am using OS 10.1.5. My startup disk which has OS 10.1.5 in it is a 4 GIG SCSI disk. Is this big enough for a startup disk (for creating 4.5 GIG DVDs)? My files are on the second hard drive which is a 40 GIG ATA disk.
    I have a bad feeling that my OSX startup drive is too small for disk burning - it is only 4 GIGs in total and OSX Disc burner (Disc copy) is first making a disk image on my startup volume before it burns it. Perhaps that disk image is too large for the startup volume. Is there any way I could ask OSX to put this disk image on the second larger hard drive instead (not the startup drive?).
    Here is my process (I hope I am doing this right - I am new at this):
    1. I first insert a blank DVD-R
    2. A message pops up asking my if I would like to create a blank disc image for this disk (I think this is the typical Disk Copy utility window. I say "yes" and give it a name and choose the "DVD-R or DVD-RAM" option. (I am not sure if there are other important settings to choose here or better settings to use but I guessed the other options that seemed obvious. A blank disk image is created with an icon that looks like a DVD disk.
    3. Then I drag my chosen files to this blank disc image. It takes about 30 minutes to copy over. Thats when I receive the error message that some files couldn't be "read or written". The other files work fine but it would be nice if they all worked.
    Why would some files not be readable or writeable?
    4. Then I choose file/burn in the top menu and the DVD is created. This takes another 20 - 30 minutes. At the very end of the process another message pops up saying:
    "Sorry the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occured (error code -28)" Followed by an "OK" button.
    However all the files that made it onto the final DVD are fine - its just that its not all of the ones I originally chose in the first step when dragging to create the disk image.
    Am I doing this the right way?
    Why are some files not "readable or writeable" as it indicates in the error message?
    Is my 4 GIG startup disk too small for this? or are the music files possibly corrupt? or could there be some other possible problem?

    To follow up, I have some good news. After following your advice Kappy, it now works very well Thanks! Instead of using the 4 GIG volume for the OS, I am now using an 8 GIG partition on an 80 GIG drive. So now the OS has some room to operate. No disk errors occured on my first DVD
    Now there was one problem. The second DVD burned gave me an error. I am not sure why but I am going to guess that because I had to installed the OS onto an 8 GIG partition maybe the OS needs to be rebooted in between disk burns because although 8 GIGs is certainly greater than the 4 GIGs I gave it last time, it still isn't a lot of space - maybe just enough to do one DVD at a time. Thats only a guess. So I rebooted to see if that clears the system out ready for the next DVD and I am trying to burn the second DVD again. If I remember I will report back. In any case, yes, this seems to be working. I hope this second DVD burns well too.

  • I do not have many messages but my iphone 5s says messages take up 4.6GB of space.  When comparing with friends who have many more message, less than 1 GB is being used on their phones.  Why are mine taking up so much space and how do I correct that?

    I do not have that many messages on my new iPhone 5s (maybe about 15 conversations and only one or two going back a little ways) yet when I go to Settings, Usage it shows that my messages are taking up 4.6GB of space.  When comparing with others (some who have hundeds of messages) they are using under 1GB for their messages.  Why are mine taking up so much space??

    I found a post with this solution that worked for me - .Do a backup, then download ibackupbot. It lets you look into the contents of that backup. Look in system files>mediadomain>library>sms>attachments. I found a ton of huge files related to long deleted texts. ibackupbot let me delete all that old crap. I then restored the phone with that now modifec backup and Bingo! freed up 9 GB. No problems.
    But note, if you are not technically inclined you probaly don't want to be digging around and deleting back up files. You delete the wrong thing and you could jack up your phone badly. Be careful.

    Why are most of my keywords not included when I export images?
    Since starting with Lightroom 1, I've entered keywords into either of the two fields between "keyword tags" and "keyword suggestions" in the keywording panel.  I was unaware that some keywords are more equal than others, or that Lightroom offered (or has added?) hierarchy support.
    I recently stumbled into the news (to me) that Lightroom tags can be organized into a hierarchy, so I exported my keywords to a text file to examine.  I hadn't unwittingly created any hierarchies, but an astounding fraction of the keywords were within square brackets.  Sure enough, if I export an image, keywords within square brackets are omitted from the output (jpeg) file.  How nice.  Since I began with Lightroom 1, I've added nearly 1600 keywords.. Too bad most of them are coded wrong... so as not to accompany output that I create.
    1.     What was I supposed to do, as a photographer beginning to use Lightroom, to enter keywords simply but reliably:  what I type is what I get? I'd expected that's what the "just type here" interface would provide.
    I especially dislike obtaining erratic results:  most keywords are in square brackets, but a few are not.  Of course, when I use a simplified interface, I should expect not to have access to some of the options or features.  However, I shouldn't inadvertently trigger undocumented behavior.
    2.     Does the Adobe reference help system say how to enter keywords simply and reliably, in its documentation of the keywording panel? I don't find my answer under the Keywords topic, within Home / Using Photoshop Lightroom 3 / Organizing photos in the catalog.
    (I NOW realize that the instructions for the "Create/Edit keyword tags" dialog mention exporting. However, that's not the method I was using.)

    I'm afraid that I distracted you with my background mention of hierarcharial keywords; I'm not asking about them.
    I've entered keywords for several years of using Lightroom.  Suddenly, this week, I find that most (yet not all) of them have the attribute of "don't include the keyword in an exported file's metadata."  I never intended to ask for that; I thought all keywords will stay with the file and its offspring, and that's what I wanted.
    So I'm asking:
    1.     What did I do "wrong" to induce Lightroom to give the keywords that attribute? I never intended to ask it to.
    2.     Where does Adobe document how to enter keywords reliably so that they stay with the file on output?  I can't find that Adobe does.

    I did export the keywords into such a list:  most keywords in the plain-text list have square brackets surrounding them, indicating keywords that will be omitted from metadata of any image that Lightroom exports.
    My concern is not that the brackets are there.  They encode the attribute of "don't include the keyword in an exported file's metadata," and recognizing that attribute concerns me.

    I have been playing duo and montotone images into indesing with no trouble. Then all of a sudden as I placew them they go black and whitre. I have tried everything from re saving, re making in photoshop and differant colours et5c. But nothing seems to wrok. The images already in my document arew fine it is just new ones. If someone could help that would be great
