Why are Intel updates always fat binaries

I don't understand. Why are all the updates for Intel based Macs fat binaries? Is there a reason that they're not Intel only binaries? Possibly Rosetta needs the PPC versions? If not it seems like such a of waste bandwidth and hard drive space.
Chris

Possibly Rosetta needs the PPC versions?
Just guessing, but that sounds about right. For example, some Safari plugins (e.g. Shockwave) are still PowerPC only - Safari won't pick this up unless it's run in Rosetta mode.

Could you explain what you mean by "updating"? Did your antivirus pick this up while Firefox was updating or while you were browsing the Internet?
If you were browsing the Internet (While visitting the hxxp://xtrastudio<i></i>.com link), then that website was infected and not a Firefox problem. I would advise you to not visit the website again though, unless they manage to fix the infection as the antivirus managed to block it now, but it might not be able to the next time.
If it happened during the "Firefox is updating" window when you tried to start Firefox, then it pretty serious.
If you could answer that question, we will probably be able to help you. Good luck :)

  • Why are application updates failing to install from application manager

Why are application updates failing to install from application manager?

Usually some update from another app is blocking any subsequent patches. The general cure is to run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, let the application manager reinstall and then let it try to update each application at the same time to prevent those version conflicts...

  • Why are display recorders always removed from the App Store so fast considering most online ones dont work and people really need something for recording?

I just need some help with figuring this out.

No, you can not disable the App Store.  It is included on Macs running 10.6.6 or higher.
2 - I want to know if I can install in some way OSX 10.6 because 10.7 is very buggy and has much worse performances in every pro application I know and I suppose this is not only because it is a new OS but because the way it is created to stay always synced to a iCloud service and upgraded with the App Store, meaning the OS is always working to update/upgrade its status in iCloud/ App Store. And in general I don't have time to lose because Apple needs beta tester (even thought I think this time the problem isn't of the OS but of what you are asking to the OS... to update (and upload) its status everytime).
I have to use a system that works great, fast, without hassles and very reliable. That's the only reason why I choose Apple.
You can not install an earlier version of OS X than what originally came on your computer.  Even if you did, it could cause major headaches: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186
3 - I don't use the internet in the computer I'm working with (because from every aspects it's better to not use internet in a computer you are working with, because it slowes down everything and makes the computer behaviour really unpredictable. Now I'm using a Mac Pro first gen and it runs like the first day, that's because I've never used internet on it, I have another one near to it where I used internet and works at half of its potential, even thought it is mainteinedly properly, cleaning, repairing, everything)
Most people in this day and age use the internet on their computers and have no problems that you speak of.
And I'd like to know if there are any hassle of any kind if you use the computer without internet
In # 3 you already stated you use one without the internet.

  • Why are acrobat updates not delivered via creative cloud?

Can anyone enlighten me as to why Acrobat updates such as the May 13 security update are not delivered via the Creative Cloud application? My CC app says my installation is up to date yet I keep getting a pop up in my Win 7 notification area from a separate acrobat updater app that wants to install an update. This is potentially confusing for users. In fact, it makes no sense at all. Why not have the installation files and the updates delivered through one interface. Or at least show the app needs updating in the CC app.
Overall, I find this disappointing and not very well thought out by Adobe. I won't even start on all the CC installation problems people are having.

    Hi CJ E,
Acrobat updater technology is different to that of Creative Cloud.
Our engineering team are working to integrate the updates along with CC App in the near future.

  • My sites have been hacked and hostgator has told me to "Disable javascript - Use the firefox addon noscript" and I don't know how to. Are all updates always sent to me as that was another point made to prevent hackers? Thanks you. David. in English

What are malicious scripts and what causes them? Over the years hackers found it hard to trick people into visiting suspicious sites so they're now targeting legit sites and using them to infect unknowing customers. In most cases an FTP account's password is obtained through key logging malware, then legit website files are modified to distribute the malware and gather more passwords. If your PC has been infected with one of these trojans, your bank account, email accounts, and FTP accounts may no longer be secure. * What to do if you find malicious scripts 1. Use the following online vulnerability scanner and ensure your software is up-to-date: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online/?task=load 2. Download antivirus and fully scan your PC for malicious files. Here are some free online scanners: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml 3. Update all passwords that may have been obtained. Do not use old passwords, generate new ones. 4. Upload older versions of the files or contact support for assistance removing the malicious scripts. * Prevention - Ensure you use the latest browser version - Disable javascript - Use the firefox addon noscript - Download and install some free antivirus software, make sure it stays updated - Use http://www.avg.com.au/index.cfm?section=avg&action=onlinescan to test suspicious links you are given in emails or find online. Thank you.
I also had tried other means of getting answers and got an even more specific answer on just how to do this.  Below is the link to the actual knowledgebase article giving specific instructions since there are some files that need to be on the Palm and some on the card, etc.

I emailed Zondervan to see if they might be able to direct me to a downloadable manual.  The referred me to laridan.com who now supports their software.
I followed the instructions, taking into account some things that were already where they needed to be, hot synced it and it seems to be working fine with 7.8 M free space on my Palm which I trust is enough for my other very large applications.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Why does Intel version always ask for my password when adding loops?

When I add loops to the PPC version, it never asks for my password. I want this behavior on the Intel version. Always asking for my password’s really annoying. Thanks very much. Peace.

Being able to to access, install and change anything on your computer with a simple keystroke is just not a good thing security wise. Maybe you don't download from unknown sources, use a wifi network, use public or work networks, IM, let others use your computer or let OS and software get out of date. But people reading this may not be in your situation. Most password hacking tools will start with single keystrokes and no password will gain access in a fraction of a second.

  • Why are the updates so large?

And where does all that data go after 3 hours of downloading?

Yes they are all MS Office 2013 Professional Updates. Last Week I got another 1.5 Gb of MS Office 2013 Professional Updates.  That was it for me, I deleted the Software and am now using open source.
There was over 50 updates, with certain individual updates 150mb is size, 10 of these is over 1 Gb
I have had 3 rounds of updates that were greater in size than the original MS Office Install file.
    That is ridiculous.

  • Why are cs5 updates erroring out when downloading on windows 7?

i have just re-installed cs5 on a new hard drive. my serial number was verified as valid. when i use help > updates, it shows updates needed in all 5 app. after it tries to download them, it errors out with this generic screen:
    Some updates failed to install.
      Adobe Bridge CS5 4.0.5 Update
There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later.
Adobe Extension Manager CS5 5.0 Update
There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later.
Photoshop 12.0.4 update for Photoshop CS5
There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later.
      Photoshop Camera Raw 6.7 Update
There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later.
when i click on the customer support link, it brings me to a "error: this serial number is not for a qualifying product.
    Any Help, please?

Here is a reply I found on another thread. I went to the Manual Products update Product updates and downloaded some so-call updates but I can't open and run 'em. Adobe has proven to be a company that cares little about customers who have spent $,$$$.$$ with them over the last 15 years.
    Another's answer:
I have same problem. After you download updates within the Adobe Application Manager box and get that dreaded Updates failed to install...  look on lower left and click on "Customer Support" link. It will open a new window and tell you the error code.
Do you get Error "This serial number is not for a qualifying product" | CS6, CS5.5, CS5 ?
That's error I get. 2 chat sessions so far, neither person could figure out why, both said to use forums. Two hours later and I find no clear answer.  Best I find googling is CS5-6 is no longer supported. ...meaning if you have less than CS6, you need to manually install updates. The automatic update manager won't update for us any longer, and you need to go here and update all programs manually:  Product updates

  • Why are my solutions always available without scoping ?

    Hello ByD community,
I am facing a misunderstanding in the lifecycle of my solutions.
The documentation mentions you need BAC elements in order to have the Business users scope your customer-specific solution and use it.
    Documentation of the 1405:
"You must create business configuration content for all solution capabilities that you create using the studio. You
create business configuration content in the studio and anchor your solution in the business adaptation catalog
(BAC) so that it is available for activation by customers who buy your solution."
But when I create extension fields and activate them through the Studio, they appear in the Cloud Solution and the business logic is well implemented without any BAC Element needed. I do not need to click on Deploy Business Config either.
And if I create the Business Option, OK, it appears in the Business Configuration, but checking or not the question doesn't make my extension fields disappear or not. It is still there!
Is it only for solution through the SAP Store which are not Activated directly from the Studio?
What really makes your solution available in the Cloud, the Scoping from the Cloud or the Activation from the Studio?
    Finally, it is also mentioned:
    ● You can create business configuration content on your development tenant only.
So why can I create Business Options in Tests environment? I did it in two Tests tenants already.
And what is the logic behind this?
Thank you all for your help!
I wish you all a excellent week in ByD!
    Best regards.
    Jacques-Antoine

    First a question:
what kind of user are you using?
If you use a development user (a user having the Partner Development Workcenter assigned), these users are special, they usually do not have access restrictions and everything is shown to them.
Therefore for testing purposes I usually recomend having a business user which is not a development user.
How is it behaving with a business user?
Furthermore, what kind of tenant did you test it with?
A development tenant behaves differently than a test tenant than a production tenant.
As william already pointed out - scoping works different on the later two.
To have your solution properly scopable, you usually have to do two things:
    1. Have every object assigned to a BAC entry (using the Sap Cloud Application Studio).
    2. Have your WCFs assigned to your scope context (from the UI Designer).
    [Copy-Paste from the 1405-Studio Library, chapter 9.3.2.8.:]
    3. Configure the work center.
    a. Specify the scope rules for the work center and the view switches:
    1. In the Properties Explorer, select the work center.
    2. Under Configuration-ScopeRules, click ... .
    3. In the Scope Rules Editor, assign the required scope rules and click OK.
    4. Repeat the steps for all the view switches.

  • Why are firefox updates (and history) lost every time I restart?

Every time I restart firefox, it indicates update is available which successfully installs. But when I restart, same message appears every time and history is lost as well.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 21.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

  • Why do Acrobat updates always lock up my computer?

I've a new computer, running Win 7, 64-bit, and I installed the latest Acrobat.  When it asked to install an add-on, I agreed, and, of course, the computer locked up.  This used to happen with my old computer whenever Acrobat wanted to install an update, and I've been told by others that this is typical of Acrobat.  Any suggestions?  or do I just suffer along with this behavior?  Thanks.
    Gail.

I am a little concerned with what you said about add-ons. The updates are not generally called add-ons and there is a chance you got some notice that was not from Adobe and has a virus. Please check your notification carefully. At this point I would suggest you open Acrobat and go to the Help menu and do Repair, then followup with the Updates. You might want to turn off the auto-updates and just check periodically.

  • Why are video clips always stalling?

HTML5?  Flash?  I never had this problem before.  Could it be that last upgrade?, I'm running OS X 10.6.8 with 2GB SDRAM, 2 GHz Duo processor.
When prompted to star it runs a few moments then stalls with the pause prompt still displayed. A couple clicks gets it to start again then it stops on it's own, or may do so with a series of jerky starts and stops.
Ya, I'd love to get that new MacBook with the Retina screen and current OS.  I am at the top of the bunch ( grey Leopard I think ) .  Is it just a problem that only money can solve?
Phil ... yep, lost in the clouds.

    Hi Russ,
Now you’ll know how really dumb I am!  I have the libraries and media stored on 3 external drives, although FCP app lives on the hard drive.  I accessed the project from one of the drives.  Then also tried accessing it from the program on the HD.  The media is AVCHD from a Panasonic AG/AC 160 camera, shot at 60 fps.  I deleted the files, but haven’t had a chance yet to re-import as both opt. and proxy.  Other clips, imported before upgrade, are fine.
I have an iMac mid 2011;  Processor 2.5 GHz, Intel Core i5.  Two of the drives are 1 tb and the 3rd is 4Tb
    thanks,
    kdc

  • Why are you updating Firefox so fast? I get problems with my Internet Bank every time before they have updated their software. And by that time you already have a new version.

I get a popup that tells there is a new version and I don't know how to get rid of it.
As I have said in the question I get problems when you are updating too many times in a year.
I didn't know where to ask this question. Maybe there is a better place, but I could not find it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did finally find out that I could uncheck Firefox update and wait until my bank have done their update. (And I can of course use Internet Explorer...) But I still think you make new versions too fast.
