Why are orphaned XMLForm processes running in my server instance
LCES Update 1 SP2 -Forms/Output/Reader Extensions
JBOSS EAP 4.3 CP07
RHEL5
Oracle
I'm experiencing multiple XMLForm processes running in my server instance. Stopping the jvm does not remove these orphaned XMLForm processes. Our pool size is set to 4, but we have had as many as 8 running on my development server until we killed the processes. We are not load testing. The hung processes have time stamps prior to the most recent jvm restart and they are utilizing CPU resources (they are not idle). Eventually if the processes are not killed the jvm becomes unstable and will no longer successfully respond.
Normal behavior is for the process to go idle once the transaction is successfully sent through Forms or Output.
The only indication of problems in the server.log are SQL exceptions, but these only start to apper once the server becomes over utilized. I see no evidence of XMLForm erroring in the logs.
SQL exception attached.
The IDP_DS is configured correctly.
Has anyone experienced this behavior and resolved the issue?
Thanks Jayan.
There were 4 XMLForm's running prior to shutting down the server just now.
- I stopped the JVM, the XMLForm processes were left hung.
- We killed the XMLForm processes, then restarted the entire server.
- Started the jvm, and ran one tranaction through Output.
-XMLForm started
-Stopped the jvm, and the process ended properly.
I will monitor the activity the rest of the day. I restarted this jvm yesterday and killed all the orphaned processes prior to starting up the jvm. I did NOT restart the server though. So I will assess if the server restart is the fix for this. I have one other environment with the same exact behavior occurring.

Newbie: why are there multiple process started?
Hi I have a simple question to ask...
Q1. Why are there multiple process for webserver instance and http-admserv for a default installed web server? Please refer below:
$ ps -ef | grep web
root 931 930 0 Jan 21 ? 0:00 webservd -r /opt/SUNWwbsvr -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/https-admserv/config -n https-adms
root 930 1 0 Jan 21 ? 0:00 ./webservd-wdog -r /opt/SUNWwbsvr -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/https-admserv/config -n htt
root 948 1 0 Jan 21 ? 0:00 ./webservd-wdog -r /opt/SUNWwbsvr -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/https-mta01.mydomain.com
root 932 931 0 Jan 21 ? 0:03 webservd -r /opt/SUNWwbsvr -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/https-admserv/config -n https-adms
root 949 948 0 Jan 21 ? 0:00 webservd -r /opt/SUNWwbsvr -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/https-mta01.mydomain.com/config
root 950 949 0 Jan 21 ? 42:09 webservd -r /opt/SUNWwbsvr -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/https-mta01.mydomain.com/config
jes 6203 5994 0 10:52:36 pts/2 0:00 grep web
I understand we need 1 watch dog for web server and 1 for admin server but why 2 process for "https-mta01.mydomain.com" and "https-admserv"?
Q2. This is in relation to Q1. If I need to turn on CA Agent for monitoring, which process should I monitor for web server instance and also for http-admserv?
Newbie.Ans1) That is by design and default behavior. There is one watch-dog process and 2 webservd processes that get started by default. The first webservd is called primordial and the second child webservd is the one that actually serves all the HTTP requests.
Example:
# ptree 6898
6898 ./webservd-wdog -r /space/iws61sp2 ...
6899 webservd -r /space/iws61sp2 -d ..
6900 webservd -r /space/iws61sp2 -d ...
In this example, the pid 6898 is called the watchdog process,
6899 webservd process is called the primordial process
and the pid 6900 is called the child webservd process that actually serves all the HTTP requests.
Ans2) You would monitor the child webservd process.
Thanks

Why are the following processes always using lots of memory?
Can someone tell me why the following processes are always using lots of memory and are always running?
kernel_task 280MB
java 300MB
clamd 120MB
mds 100MB
WindowServer 100MB
coreservicesd 60MBBecause they require that much memory and because the processes are always in use.
This is one reason why the minimum system memory requirement is 1 GB.
Now, you have one third-party process listed, clamd, which is used by ClamXAV anti-virus software. If you can uninstall it you will recover the memory needed by clamd. -
Why are my lab processed images always overcropped?
This bugs the heck out of me.
No matter where I have my files printed, they are cropped more than the original.
I've had them printed by Snapfish, at better local labs, at Costco and Sam's Club stores, and even on an Epson PictureMate I bought.
My Canon 20D shoots at a 2x3 proportion, of course. If I edit in Photoshop or PSE I use the crop tool and select 4x6 before saving the file. In other words the file is exactly as I want it to print. Yet in every case, no matter where the files are printed, the image is further cropped by the processor. I haven't measured, but I would guess by an eighth- to a quarter-inch. I've talked to Noritsu and they have no explanation. Nobody has had an explanation. When the same thing happened with the PictureMate I called Epson and was told to experiment with a percentage reduction for each file. Fat chance.
Why, when I provide a properly sized file, is it invariably printed with further cropping, and how can I prevent it?The machines always crop based on the settings imposed by the manufacturer. You may want to crop to 6.2x4.2" , for example, and allow the machines to crop, as they will. Hopefully, the information that is deleted is not critical. I became aware of this several years ago when I added a date for identification in the lower, right corner, and half of it was cropped off. I now place the date not so close to the edges.

Why are the Mac Pro's dropping their server connection over a PC network.
This seems to be a common thread on the discussion, but I can't find a resolution. I have a mix of G5s and Mac Pro's all running 10.4.10. All the machines are set to manual 100BaseT Duplex. The Mac Pro's constantly drop their network connections or show write errors when you are trying to save. Can someone point me in the direction of the answer? thanks.
Might be some of the same issues in this thread assuming your MBA is a 2013 model

Can GG SQL Server DataPump Process run on separate server to Extract
Its clear from the Goldengate SQL Server documentation that the Extract process for SQL Server has to be on the database server. Is it possible to split the Data Pump off onto a separate server in order to limit the load on the DB Server? It seems like this would require a separate GoldenGate installation with just a data pump reading the trail files from the Extract installation.
Appreciate any comments on possibility, worthwhileness etc.
StonemasonAn extract (or pump) process reads trail files locally, and writes to either local or remote file system. The pump itself -- if you configure it as "passthru" -- has minimal load. But if you don't want the pump running on the DB server, then just have the primary extract write out remote trails instead of local trails. This architecture presents more disadvantages than advantages, so in general it's not recommended. For example, if the network goes down and the remote trails can't be written, then your primary extract stops processing database logs, and this is something that should continue running, even if just to create local trails until the network is back up.
Alternatively, you can also have your trail files written to "local" trails (extTrail instead of rmtTrail) that is actually remote storage (NAS/SAN), and then you would have a pump running on a remote machine and reading these trails. This is more common on linux/unix -- if you're running Windows, you might want to check with support for supported configurations. (Also, even if using linux/unix, check for KM's (support notes) on support.oracle.com for optimal and/or required configurations for the network attached storage/NFS.) -
Hi,
The issue is, a process, say "A" is running fine on certain days. On some days there are additional processes running on the server. When these additional processes are running, "Process A" suffers performance issue.
Interesting point is that, these additional processes were running since long time. But, earlier "Process A" was running fine even when these additional process were running. Suddenly from past 2 or 3 weeks there is performance issue in "Process
A", when these additional process run.
Note: Nothing has been modified for the process A.
Process A is an SQL job which has SSIS Package and stored proc in different steps
When multiple parallel processes are running, SSIS Package step suffers around 40% increase in execution time, where as stored procs have only 15-20% increase in execution time
When Process A is executed while no other big processes are running, it's execution time is fine. From past few days, issue is only when, some other big parallel processes are running.
Currently below is my analysis:
Since Process A is running fine when it is executed independently, I assume there is no issue in this process.
Since issue occurs when some other big process is running, when Process A is running, I believe it is DiskIO issue. Will the issue be resolved if RAM size is increased?
Is there any way to check if RAM is being fully utilized by the server
Is there any other possibility why there is a sudden dip in performance when parallel processes are running.
Is there any possibility of having issues in additional processes. Incase if it has some issues, does it impact "Process A"
Please let me know if you need any further information. Infact I am not able to diagnose what is the actual root cause for the performance issue in "Process A" as nothing has been modified.
Also it would be very much helpful, if I get any idea on different ways in reaching the actual root cause of this performance issue.
NOTE: This is a data warehouse
Thanks,
RakshaWhen a query has a parallel plan, it will in general try to grab all cores up to the maxdop setting, but then it often uses them inefficiently.
But in that case, there are better odds for the queries not battling on resources with each other!
What Josh alludes is to the fact that SQL Server needs to partition the data, so that different partitions are processed on different cores. This partitioning is based on statistics, and the statistics may be out of date or not accurate enough. This may
result in that the data is not partitioned proportionally, and some threads gets very little data to work with. Thus, these CPUs are still idle, so there may still be room for the two processes to run at full speed. (That is, full speed with the given plan,
which is not the full speed, had the partitioning been accurate.)
I mention this because you asked about parallelism, and many systems leave maxdop at its default setting of 0 (which means "go ahead and grab everything!") even though Microsoft recommends you set it to a different number depending on this and
that.
Since this is a data warehouse, Raksha should not tamper with "max degrees of parallelism", I think.

Why are there two ns-httpd processes running for one instance of iws 6
Hi all,
I'm used to iWS 4.x where there's only one watchdog and one ns-httpd process running for any given install of iWS. Now in iWS 6.x I noticed there are two processes for the admin server and two processes for the actual single web server instance, along with two watchdogs.
What are the extra web server instances doing? I noticed that there is a 'parent' relationship with the pid's, so I guess one is spawning the other, but why? If it's to have persistent state over restart, isn't that what uxwdog is for?
Thanks in advance,

I am trying to upgrade EPM 8.9(8.49.23) to EPM 9.1 (8.53.08). During dataconversion step the AE process finished succssfully in few seconds. When i see the log it says "There are no conversions to run for upgrade path PF89 (18028,10003)". Please let me know why it didnt do any conversion. Am i missing something?
yes, that app engine didnt inserted any rows. So now when i tried to drill down i found that there was no data in the "new demo" database on table UPG_DATACONV. That is the reason for all this.
When i applied required for upgrade patch in demo it said couple of patch already exists so those update i skipped. Now when i check upd877654 has a step which imports the data in this table. my change assistant told that the update is already available in my demo so i skipped. Now i am not sure what to do.
I tried reimporting the data and running the analyzer again. But worried that there can be any issues due to this. -
The earlier version of Firefox did not run this plug-in container. Every time I would remove it from my processes it would kill videos etc. But, it was all fine in the older version of Firefox, so why the change? So I chose not to update Firefox. Then, the other day, I saw that is was automatically downloading and I turned off my computer because it wouldn't stop and I didn't give permission. When I got home I could not use Firefox and it took me hours to figure out how to get the internet back. Then I got Firefox back and this stupid process is running again. It takes up too much memory. I don't like a bunch of extra processes running like that. So, why can't I just use the old version? Is this process absolutely necessary?
In the past the memory usage would end up as part of the Firefox program. Now with OOPP you can see it as a separate process and that makes it more noticeable.
You can disable OOP if you want.<br />

Why are there 4 (!) FlexBuilder.exe in my TaskManager Process list?
Much to my surprise I found 4 (!) different FlexBuilder.exe processes in my TaskManager process list (WinXP+SP3).
How comes?
I have currently opened only 1.
Moreover 3 of them consume between 19 and 30% of the total CPU power!
Is this a bug?
If I close the current FlexBuilder one of the 4 vanishes but 3 remain active
Why are dead Flexbuilder.exe not removed? Do I have to set an explicite option for that?
I expected even when I start a new instance of FlexBuilder this instance should check wether there is already a running instance
and warn me or use this.
Is there a preference "allow only 1 instance of FlexBuilder" ?
PeterFlex Builder is based on Eclipse and there is no parameters so start only a sigle version - you can use several products based on Eclipce simultaneously or use several instanceses of one product.
If you see several intances in Task Manager, some instances can't stop working and you can kill them in task manager. After that you can see FB logs for errors. You can also check number of javaw.exe processes.
